Customer Reviews:
Decent Book.......2006-07-31
I was looking for a spanish book that talked about something other than just objects. I also like the drawings and that the book is very simple. My 1 year old can really enjoy it.
Not what I expected.......2005-10-26
We're trying to teach our daughter Spanish from an early age (she's 8 months), and reading stories to her each night. This book is pretty simplistic with two - four words per page ("sad, con triste") so it's over pretty fast. Perhaps for an older toddler who can interact a bit more and understand the meaning it would be suitable but it's not helpful right now.
Great addition to any Spanish lesson.......2005-10-14
I use this book in my classes for students ages 4 all the way to 18. It's a great, and SIMPLE way to help them express themselves in Spanish! The older teens crack up as they use the phrases, but it's great because they're communicating in their target language, and the younger students all identify with the bright pictures and sturdy pages. They LOVE using the phrases from Como me siento!
If you want something to listen to and write in- a complete curriculum, try Flip Flop Spanish, which comes with a CD!
Great!!.......2005-08-04
I loved this book. It teaches little ones about feelings in English and Spanish. Is hard to find books in spanish to teach my little girl. We both loved it. It was a great buy.
Help children learn feeling words.......2001-08-02
This simple book is a neat way to teach young children how to express themselves using feeling words. The pictures are bright and engaging. There is no story line, but that allows you to make up stories as you look at the pictures with your young children...

Will it work?.......2007-01-04
As we all know, dealing with peers is one of the most difficult - but essential - skills our children need to learn. In a search for material that could be used for teaching effective problem-solving, assertive communication and negotiation skills, I discovered this book and ordered a copy. I found some of the ideas a bit silly-sounding but figured it might work with young children, so I have developed small "plays" using the book's dialogues to set up the scenarios for my kids to enact. They love it! Now I am expanding this activity to include all students from 1st-6th grade with the hope that learning these skills will help reduce bullying and enhance their communication skills. My only criticism is that the material presented in the book is a bit disjointed and hard to read. I'm not sure what audience the author was writing to, but I felt it too childish to be taken seriously as an adult and too abstract to hold the attention of a child; however, the basic principles are sound and the imagery of the language does appeal to the child in all of us.
Important information for all kids.......2006-02-17
I agree with Dr. Ross's editorial review that "everything about this book is perfect for children." Speak Up and Get Along is a great resource to help kids survive and succeed especially in their social worlds at school. It is clear and easy for them to read. The best thing about it is that there are a lot examples of how to actually deal with bullying and teasing, arguments, peer pressure and making and keeping friends. Each chapter has easy tools for kids to use and the illustrations help. The chapter on talking back to negative thoughts was really helpful. It gives very specific ways that kids can do this. I really recommend this as a gift for the children in your life.

Book Description
n Todd Parr's world, reading isn't something that just happens at school or at home-it can happen anywhere! In his trademark bright, bold pictures, Todd shows us all the fun ways we can read-from in the library and in bed to in the bathtub and on the road. Children are invited to read the main text as well as all the funny signs, labels, and messages hidden in the pictures.
Customer Reviews:
reading is fun-damental.......2007-02-18
Todd Parr's positive messages and cheerful artwork convey what is so great about reading (in case there are any doubting Thomases!) Rreading is an adventure, reading helps you learn new things, and ....you can read anywhere!
My daughter loves this book!.......2007-01-12
I borrowed this book from my local public library and my 1 year old daughter couldn't get enough of it, so we just had to buy it. This book is full of bold, bright colours, there are lots of great pictures to look at and the story is simple, easy to follow and has a great message about reading. I have to read this to Isabella 3 times a day, and each time she sees it coming down from the "special bookshelf", she laughs and giggles and knows that her favourite story is just about to start. It is interactive and fun and it really does make you feel good!
I want more copies of this book .......2006-01-27
I want more copies of this book (because mine is always being borrowed)! I am a Reading teacher in an elementary school and the children love Todd Parr's pictures and easy way of telling stories. They relate well because the phrases are short and realistic, and they beg to read it over and over again. My first Todd Parr book was "Things that make you feel good, things that make you feel bad" and I bought several as gifts for adults as well as children. The kids will want to hear (or read) his stories over and over again!
Wonderful for children of all ages.......2005-08-09
Todd Parr has a way with encouraging children to do things (reading) without being 'preachy' and by being FUN. My 3 children, ages 15 mos, 15 mos, and 5 years love all of his books. We just bought this one today and have already read it 3 times - it is still afternoon. My young toddlers are attracted to the illustrations, my 5 year old is attracted to the easy to read text and "funny looking characters". She often identifies her family or pets in all of the pictures.
So Many Ways to Love a Book!.......2005-05-29
Reviewed by Carolyn Howard-Johnson, award-winning author of This is the Place, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered and The Frugal Book Promoter.
This is a book that cares. Todd Parr and his publisher, the Little Brown for Young Readers division of LB Company, have introduced a book that supports the work of a wonderful literacy organization, Reach Out and Read. They've done it with Reading Makes You Feel Good, an imaginative book that explores how reading can empower a child--can empower anyone, for that matter.
The illustrations are in Crayola colors and remind me of the bright little cut-out puzzles from Europe made with wood. You know, good Danish or Swedish design. Each picture-page includes not only the story narrative but pictures of things with words in them. That association between words and how they can label objects is a subtle message for toddlers and beginning readers.
The only advantage for reading that Parr misses in this simple but well-written story is that reading prepares one for writing better, for writing other books like Parr's that will help children learn, writing reviews like this that will help parents pick the very best of books for their children!

Labels may not be helpful for young children.......2004-05-28
I love Todd Parr's animated illustrations and charm. But after purchasing this book and reading it to my 2-year old, I wasn't as excited about this particular book. The labels "good" and "bad" are used in a way that it introduces ideas into a young child's mind. Like some of the examples were "good:light", "bad: the dark". I am trying to teach my daughter NOT to think of the dark as something bad and not to be afraid of! So that's not too helpful. Also, it has "monsters: bad" as well as "big hairy spiders: bad". We're trying to convince my daughter that monsters don't exist, not that they are "bad" and make her scared even more. The other labels in the book are funny, like "smelly feet: bad" and "hot chocolate with marshmallows: good".
I know Todd Parr just wanted to write a funny book for kids. But if your children are at the stage where they are scared of things or take things very literally, then you might want to choose a different book!
Good Book.......2002-11-24
I am a teacher and I love these books. Todd Parr has outdone himself yet again in writing this book. I am sure that it will be a hit with my class of first graders.
New fun, funky emergent reader series.......2000-04-04
I love the Todd Paar books! Neon-y colors and goofy, childlike art make these very simple books stand out from the crowd. Things that make you feel good include bubble baths, pets, hot chocolate with marshmallows, and bedtime stories. Things that make you feel bad include smelly feet, stinkbugs, worm stew, and monsters. The combination of things that are real and things that are silly will make you laugh and maybe take life a little less seriously. If you're a kid, there's an important self-esteem message in these books that the littlest kid can relate to.

Customer Reviews:
Pretty Simple- Combine with The Diet for Teenagers Only.......2007-02-26
I bought both "The Diet for Teenagers Only" and "Toning for Teens" by Joyce Vedral about 10 days ago, and I have already noticed a difference. Combining the healthy eating plan with the exercise program is already affecting me. I feel stronger (but a little sore) and I have more energy. Also, I have lost about 5 pounds! So I would call that a good start, if you do the math 10 days/5 pounds = 1/2 pound per day. These are two very smartly written books and they can help you on you goal to a healthy lifestyle!
Great Book.......2007-01-04
This is a great book for teens that need to get back into shape after a season off from a sport.
Perfect for teens who want to shape up - if you have time........2006-09-22
This workout certainly works. It definitely has done everything that it's promised it would. I've only been following the program for about three weeks, and I've noticed a drastic difference. I'm 19 years old, and even though I am in no way overweight, doing this program regularly has helped me lose over five pounds in the three-week span I've been doing it... and I haven't even been following the diet.
I do warn people not to expect your first time to fly by in the 20 minutes it says. As a matter-of-fact, until you learn each exercise and the order that they are given, it will probably take at least an extra 10 minutes. The upper body workout is much faster than the lower body, with which I have a lot more trouble, and even now it takes atleast 30 minutes.
Overall, this book is fantastic for weight training. I just think people need to know that the workouts may take a little longer than expected. Also, I wish the book would have put more emphasis on the need for some sort of cardio workout along with the weight training.
Toning for teens.......2006-07-29
The workout was great..I did notice a difference. However, her nutrition section is wrong. There are better books out there than this one for weight/strength training.
Great Workout Book For Teens!.......2005-12-03
This book has helped me out a lot! Just to add a point, for all the people that are saying that the diet part of this book isn't good for you at all, it actually is...if you're a person over weight. The books states in the beginning that you should only do the exercises if you aren't over weight. If you are over weight try the exercises and do the diet plans.
It was very easy for me to follow and the pictures were great! If you want to tone your body and/or lose weight...this is the right book for you!

In an ideal world, a primer on feeling good just wouldn't be necessary. But thankfully, the jubilantly goofy Todd Parr knows that we could all use a tip or two from time to time, no matter how old we are.
Just as he did in Do's and Don'ts, The Okay Book, and his other titles (16 and counting), Parr keeps it super simple, with fat lines, bold colors, and a repetitively cheery, often silly message. His words get some smiles here and there ("Brushing your hair with a lion feels good," "Making sounds like a monkey feels good"), but it's the vibrant, uncluttered, kid-style illustrations and the way that Parr juxtaposes them with the text that makes this book such fun. "Making a new friend" accompanies a fat, happy pig holding hands with a skunk sporting a thin red smile; "Watching your grandma and grandpa dance feels good" sits above a couple of funky, freaky grandparents doing a dance that can only be described as "the Keith Haring."
Parr closes the book a little philosophically, with a handwritten "Love, Todd" note: "It feels good to think about all the things that make you feel good. Rubbing my dog's tummy makes me feels good--and him, too. What things make you feel good?" In a kids' book, it's easy for simple to become simply insubstantial, but Parr's enthusiasm carries the day--and if you can be made to feel good, you will. (Ages 4 to 8) --Paul Hughes
Book Description
Everybody wants to feel good, and Todd Parr helps you learn how with this irresistible book. From sweet ("Being together feels good") to whimsical ("Catching snowflakes on your tongue feels good") to downright silly ("Making sounds like a monkey feels good"), this bright, bold catalog of good feelings will delight readers of all ages.

Not for the close-minded.......2004-06-18
I think this book is great as our other Todd Parr books are. My 4 year old loves them. These books are about real life, happy and sad. It contradicts the old way of thinking, that feelings are wrong and should be discouraged. It encourages children to act like children and maybe for some adults to let their hair down and lighten up. Another fun book from Todd!

Teenage girls are given the tools to recognize and break away from unhealthy patterns, including harmful diets, by discussing the many ways in which depression, anger, and low self-esteem can translate into eating and weight gain and how to find healthier, less destructive ways of coping. Supportive information details what girls can do to attain a healthy body and mind, and provides tips on how to help parents be more supportive. Educational but fun quizzes and games focus on diet and exercise, as well as coping mechanisms for dealing with the media, peer pressure, and eating disorders.
Customer Reviews:
An outstanding book for overweight teen-aged girls........2006-08-14
I have been in bariatric medicine for 39 years and this is the first book for teen-aged girls that makes sense. This is partly because of Dr. Bartell's advisory panel of a dozen girls and partly because of her extensive knowledge of behavioral management of obesity. The book is easy to read and understand and is practical in her choice of subjects to cover. Healthy eating, understanding of eating disorders, exercise and management of family interactions that could ruin a diet are covered extensively and intelligently. This book is comparable to the one for smaller children written by Leonard Epstein (The Stoplight Diet) that is out of print now. Parents with overweight teenagers need to get this book and share it with their daughters.

Highly recommended especially for any girl concerned by the rampant obesity epidemic in America.
A Mom's Double Thumbs Up.......2006-05-15
As the mother of a 15 year old ninth grader, I was relieved that my daughter embraced Dr. Susan's Weight Loss Guide. Of course, I would like to say that my daughter devoured this book, and then stopped devouring everything in sight. It hasn't been quite that easy, but this Guide has made a significant difference in the way my daughter views her body, her image, and her relationship with food.
The book's format is fun and easy to read, filled with clever hooks that grab a teenage girl's fleeting attention. Lots of quizzes and self-ratings allow girls to be honest with themselves as they evaluate their thoughts about why and what they eat, and their food/friends/family issues.
I especially appreciated reading the thoughts and feelings of Dr.Susan's group of young teenage girls with their own real issues. Learning that my daughter is not alone in the teenage whirlwind of body image and popularity made me (and my daughter) take it all in stride.
This book is a must for all teenage girls, whether or not they are battling weight issues, since at its core, this Guide offers the roadmap to a healthy lifestyle.
Oh man did this thing help!!! .......2006-05-15
As a teenager, I could really relate to this book! It supplied me with terrific tips and easy guidlines to follow! Its self-accessing quizzes and answers were clear enough for me to understand what I've been going through, what's right for MY body type, and what I had to do in order to create a healthier lifestyle for myself. Dr. Susan did most of the writing, but she was advised by a panel of 12 teenage girls. These girls contributed some of their personal weight-battle stories and they told of ways they changed themselves and their views. I found that these stories gave me incredible advise because they were things I could directly relate to!!!
One of the most important things in this book were the eating and exercising/activity tips and tricks. Using this book, I was able to figure out ways to incorporate healthier meals and snacks into my everyday hectic schedules. I also learned the consequences of binge-eating, and how to control my portions of snacks and meals. I was exposed to several new stretches and exercises from diagrams and descriptions, and I learned how I could make exercising into an enjoyable activity - rather than one to loate.
Despite how useful these things were, I found that the MOST helpful thing for ME was when I learned that DIETS DON'T WORK! I had been trying different diets on a constant basis. Dr. Susan taught me that the only way people can lose weight is if they PERMANENTLY change their lifestyle.
If you want to know the 411 on how to change your life, your self esteem, and your apperance, look no farther than Dr. Susan's "Girls-Only Weight Loss Guide" !!!
Light touch on a heavy topic that leaves teens feeling satisfied.......2006-03-27
Dr. Susan provides the best practical advice in an easy-to-read, easy to swallow format. Light reading for parents and kids, this will leave you feeling quite full, and happy with your choice.
The girls advisory board is a unique and creative way to let teens share their views. I believe this allows all girls to identify with the characters in the book...girls whose voices ring true.
This book should be in all pediatricians' offices!
