Customer Reviews:
Great new story.......2001-03-21
After reading the original 5 or 6 Curious George stories to my 2 year old son about a hundred times, it is refreshing to see some new adventures. We just picked up this book today after going to the dump and my son just loves it. The spirit of the original stories is still there while the artwork is slightly more crisp and detailed. I look forward to reading the other new stories!
Little Boys Love It!.......2001-01-18
A dump truck, a lever that gets pulled not once but twice, and robbers! What a combo and George is a hero again. I hope someday that they bring this version out of print. My boys loved it and my preschool boys page through it everyday! It is also a great springboard to the other great Curious George books.
A family favorite.......2000-07-04
My 3 year old loves Curious George books and all kinds of heavy equipment so combining the two means it's one of his favorite books, and just like George he is always curious especially about George and why he is doing what he is doing. In our house both my 3 year old and 17 month old would sooner read about Curious George than watch tv.

Customer Reviews:
One of my toddler's favorites... disappointed in the ending.......2007-04-10
Unfortunately I'm not all that thrilled with how the story ends, but up until the very end it teaches helpfullness, problem-solving, etc. I really think it's a great teaching tool in that respect - I just hate that I have to lecture at the end on duck should've been kinder to his friends. They rhyming is great and really engages my preschooler. Would love the book more if it had a more positive outcome. We are huge Jez Alborough fans and this book will stay in our library.
Look out for the Muck.......2007-01-12
This is my 2-year-old's favorite book right now. The illustrations are quite clever with some wonderful expressions and body language on the duck and friends. The storyline is simple with a lot of rhyming words which contributes to my daughter's enjoyment. The ending is not quite what one expects, but it can easily be turned into a discussion as to why the duck abandons his friends.
Duck in the Truck (Hardcover).......2006-03-10
Purchased for my soon to be three year old Grandson who loves trucks and trains. He really enjoyes the book and wants it read over and over again.
Fun story, great springboard for discussion about how people behave ..........2006-03-04
My kids have both loved this one. The art is inspired, the predicament is hilarious, the rhyme scheme mostly works, Duck is the most gloriously hopeless egoist since Mr Toad, and the author appears to have faith in parents in general and thus leaves the ethical commentary up to you.
The ending has been the object of some controversy, but I like to think that Frog, Sheep and Goat took themselves off to the pub by way of an epilogue, forged a friendship for the ages, and then dined out on the story for years.
Disappointing Duck.......2006-02-17
I love Jez Alborough and this book is great to look at and read and rhyme with -- until you get to the end! Shame on you duck. I read this to a group of children at a day care center yesterday and they were shocked at Duck's treatment of his helpful friends.

Book Description
If you think you know all the ways animals travel, think again. They don't just walk, waddle, and swim, they love to fly blimps, drive jeeps, skipper submarines, and more! If you want to find out which vehicle is an animal's favorite, just think about its name. And watch out for a Sheep Jeep on the road and a Sub Cub in the water!
In this clever concept book, bold, graphic, giggle-inducing artwork introduces a fun way for the very young to look at modes of transportation. The card-stock pages are strong enough to live through lots of readings.
Customer Reviews:
Kids love this book.......2007-05-06
Great book for toddlers and preschoolers. Good pictures and love the short descriptive text that rhymes. My daycare kids really enjoy this book. School agers enjoy reading this also.
Fun Family Reading.......2007-04-04
My children love this book. My now two year old loved Truck Duck as an infant. Now that they are both older, my son and daughter both love yelling out the rhyming names of the animals in their vehicles. We all have a good time reading this book. They also liked Dunk Skunk.
Love it - A++.......2007-01-06
This book was a favorite for both girls, starting about 18 months and they still request it. We love it enough to have purchased it repeatedly as birthday gifts for boys and girls alike!
He's getting it for Christmas.......2006-12-20
My 2 year old son found this in the library by himself. I guess he liked the bright red cover. We read it every night until it was due back. I returned the book and Owen threw a fit. I thought he would let it go after a night or two. He didn't and we went back to the library to check it out again. We've read it so much he can tell me what's on the page and he's getting his own copy for Christmas.
Truck Duck.......2005-10-01
This is a great book especially for preschoolers. The pictures are bright and colorful and attract even my 10-week old grandson. As a teacher, I highly recommend it.

Ducks in muck. Ducks stuck in trucks. Trucks stuck in muck. How will the trucks and ducks get unstuck?
Discover what happens to a group of friendly ducks when they play in the muck and then are taken away in a truck!
Customer Reviews:
Few words book.......2007-01-10
Be advised that this book has very few words on each page. We love these series of books but were initially disappointed in how little words this book had. None the less it has grown on our 1 1/2 year old son and he now likes it because there are trucks in the book.
Ducks in Muck.......2002-12-12
This book is really simple. I would recommend it to kids ages 3-6. It has rhyming patterns to help teach the kids how to read. It's about ducks and truck getting stuck in muck, the ducks get away but the truck is still stuck in muck.
A Hit in The Toddler Room!!!!.......2001-07-19
I am a co-teacher in a daycare with 18-27 month olds and this book is a definite favorite!! They ask to read it about a hundred times a day and just love the "quack quack" and "vroom vroom" sound effects we make to go along with the story. Some of them can just about read it to us all by themselves just by hearing it so often as well as the clear pictures. They love knowing where the missing boot is, and counting the trucks, as well as identyfing the colors. Great book!
DUCKS IN MUCK!.......2000-06-09
"Duck-in-muck...duck-in-muck..duck-in-muck!" That's what my 2 year-old son walks around saying as he holds this book out for my wife and I to read to him! He loves it! Great read aloud!
Ducks in Muck.......2000-03-30
Great book, simple and fun. My 5-year old was reading it in no time, and now he loves to impress everyone on how well he can read. Can't wait for the movie.

A leaking roof? A window stuck? These are jobs for... Fix-It Duck!
He's got his tools. He's smart-he's strong. What can possibly go wrong?
But Duck is up to his old tricks. Now who'll end up in a fix?
Jez Alborough's inimitable Duck first appeared in Duck in the Truck.
Customer Reviews:
The Duck Wreaks Havoc Again.......2007-04-19
After leaving his friends stuck in the muck, Duck is living in the same rural area as Sheep, Frog and Goat. Unfortunately for them, Duck now fancies himself a handyman. However, his absent-minded ways make him more of a menace than a helper. In fact, his "Fix-It" skills are less than even any shade tree mechanic. Like with the first book, Alborough manages to surprise with a clever twist, that on second reading his foreshadowed throughout the book. Once again the clever story line is complemented extremely well by the outstanding illustrations.
A Fun Read-Aloud for Younger Kids.......2007-03-13
A short, rhyming story, this would make an excellent read-aloud for younger kids. Duck is sitting in his living room on a rainy day when a drop of water drips into his tea cup. He immediately launches into "Fix-It Duck" mode, setting out to repair the roof. But he doesn't have a ladder, so he sets out to borrow one from his friend Sheep. Sheep mentions that the window in his own roof (Sheep lives in a camper) leaks, and Fix-It Duck is on the job again. The reader rapidly figures out that Fix-It Duck, while well-intentioned, is an uncoordinated and accident-prone menace. But the thing about Duck is that he never gives up when things don't go as planned. He just makes a new plan, and keeps on going. For example, here's when he "fixes" Sheep's window:
He does what he can to close up the gap.
He glues it, screws it and gives it a tap.
(SMASH - picture of broken window)
"The problem," says Duck, "is your glass is too thin."
"My house," wails Sheep. "The rain's coming in!"
"What we need," says Duck, with a glint in his eye,
"is to pull your house to somewhere dry."
And things get more out of control from there, with an added, funny twist revealed at the end.
I found the text in this book quite catchy. It reads like a song. I was making lunch immediately after reading it, and kept hearing "This is a job for ... Fix-It Duck" repeating in my head, in a cheerful sort of way. The illustrations are exuberant and whimsical, with enough attention to detail to reward repeat readings. For instance, the amiable Duck drinks his tea out of a smiley-face mug, while the house-proud Sheep has a vase of colorful flowers in his window, and serves tea in flower-printed mugs. Duck also has a "DUCK1" vanity plate on his car, and a little duck-shaped hood ornament. Mostly, though, what comes across from the deft illustrations are the personalities of the characters, cheerfully clueless Duck, justifiably nervous Sheep, wary Goat, and shy little Frog, who makes an appearance in the end.
The board book edition is sturdy, but in a larger format, with thinner pages, than many board books. It's an excellent addition to the set of available board book titles. The colors are bright (despite the rain falling on every page), and I expect the book to hold up well to repeat readings. This book is sure to be a hit with the early pre-school crowd. Personally, I'll be keeping an eye out for Duck's other adventures.
This book review was originally published on my blog, Jen Robinson's Book Page, on March 12, 2007.
He's baaaack!.......2006-11-11
Like The Empire Strikes Back, a sequel that is even better than its predecessor. Duck once again combines guileless ego, an over-reaching confidence and a breezy facility for externalising his troubles and wreaks havoc as a self-appointed handyman. His long-suffering friends - frog, sheep and goat - are again along for the ride and Alborough's hilarious, rhyming text will have you hamming it up like the voice talent on a Pixar DVD extra. As noted in previous reviews, the illustrations are full of enjoyable detail and layouts have a flair and sophistry more often seen in comic strips directed at older readers. Don't overlook the first and last pages, which serve as preface and epilogue in illustrated form. For readers aged 3 and up, this has been a very welcome addition to our home library.
My favorite, my childrens favorite........2003-09-17
This book is wonderful - it has my 3 and 4 year old girls rolling with laughter. They know all the rhymes and and sometimes say them before me.
We have had it almost a year and they still want to read it all the time. Fortunately it reads aloud so well that I am happy to oblige.
Fix-It Duck.......2002-07-04
A great read-aloud for preschool through 2nd grade (at least). I love the way Jez Alborough has used the pages so creatively by varying the drawing "frames" and the text "boxes." Kids will love how Duck fearlessly bumbles through trying to fix one thing and then another, making things worse and worse. The tension builds throughout the book until the surprise ending. Make sure you carefully examine the two-page spreads at the beginning and end of the book. The first sets the stage for what's to come, and the last one gives closure to the story. It reminds me of WATCH OUT, BIG BRO' IS COMING! by the perspective used in the pictures, and the surprise ending.
