I bought this book for my nice and I read it to he and I enjoyed it myself! Is as funny as any other Amelia Bedelia book, and it even gives a general idea on what camping is all about!

So the rogers and amelia go on a camping trip but everything was a disaster! The sleeping 'bags' were paper bags, the tent steaks were tent-shaped steak slices, she 'pitched' the tent and other funny things.

This book in the series finds Amelia Bedelia and her employers going camping...as always Amelia's literal minded approach means lots of misunderstanding between what the Rodger's tell her to do and what Amelia does. As always, Amelia Bedelia does EXACTLY as she is told (let's hit the road leaves Amelia hitting the road with a stick and I think we can all guess what happens when it's time to pitch the tent)!! In the end, its Amelia's big heart (and extraordinary cooking ability) that saves the day (as usual) when the Rodger's get fed up with all the misunderstandings!! Young readers will love to hear this story read out loud, but it's also a find book for readers just starting out! Amelia, I think, will be around for generations to come, the stories are simple, but hilarious and the illustrations are just darling! Always a good way to get a discussion going about how we use words and how a word or phrase can have several meanings...plus it's just plain fun!

My granddaughter Rita is helping me write this review. She says this is one of her favorite books, and she recommends it to other kids. Rita read this book when she was in first grade. She's in second grade this year.

Rita says the story starts when the familiy is going on a camping trip. She says Amelia's Dad says "Let's Hit the Road" and and Amelia picks up a stick and starts hitting the road. Amelia seems to always get things wrong. When they get to the campsite she falls in the river and her clothes are all wet.

But one day, Amelia's Dad forgets his own birthday, so Amelia Bedelia makes a cake and fancy dinner for him. And the family starts singing "Happy Birthday to You." And he thanks Amelia Bedelia for the cake. Amelia finally does something that pleases her Dad. The End.

A Great Book for Beginners.......2000-01-01

This is a great book for young children. There is no bad language just good, clean reading. It's funny and amusing and will keep your children laughing.

Amelia Bedelia is the cute story of a clumsy maid that forgets, and doesn't know the meaning of our everyday sayings like draw the drapes. It will make children laugh, even adults. It's a cute story of a silly lady that makes you want to keep reading, and makes you love Amelia!

In the book series Amelia Bedelia she is a made and she is silly. My favorite book is Amelia Bedelia and the Surprise Shower by Peggy Parish. Amelia Bedelia thinks that it is a shower and when the people came to the lady shower Amelia Bedelia got the hose and showered everybody with the hose. Here is a warning: when somebody has a shower don't take a hose and wet people! What I want to change about the series is Amelia Bedelia is not crazy and she knows things.

Amelias Pie Saves The Day.......2007-03-20

Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish is a great book for a first grader who just learned to read. If you're the type of kid who takes things way too seriously, like Amelia Bedelia, I recommend that you check out this book. In the book Amelia Bedelia is a maid who takes things too literally. The book keeps you wondering what hilarious mistake Amelia Bedelia will make next. She might not be the best made, but boy does she make a good lemon meringue pie!

Peggy Parish did an astonishing job on the writing. It's amazing how one simple instruction could be changed into one so totally different. On the other hand I didn't like how she made Amelia sound so utterly dimwitted. The illustrations were wonderful and very detailed. The facial expressions are tremendous; it's almost like you can see what the characters are thinking next.

The fact that Amelia says things like, "Now what" or, "Did you ever hear tell of such a silly thing" makes you crack up with laughter. It's actually her who makes the instructions so ridiculous. You can't help but love that adorable outfit she's wearing all the time. Even though I've always wondered what was inside that purse of hers. The story could have been better if it had more characters in it. I would give this book a 4 out of 5 star rating.

The setting of the book is in a huge mansion which includes a beautiful staircase and a somewhat discombobulated maid. The book has three main characters in it. Some of the characters are the lovable Amelia Bedelia and the reasonable Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. Another character which isn't so important is Mr. and Mrs. Rogers' dog. But the hero of the story is Amelia's lemon meringue pie.

How is desert the hero of the story you ask you'll just have to read and find out. If I were you I wouldn't be surprised at pastry being the hero of the story. This story consists of many wacky events such as airing out light bulbs and dressing up turkeys. Some other wacky events are when Amelia destroys Mrs. Rogers's best towels and almost fades out the furniture. The wackiest event of the story is when Amelia covers the antique furniture in make up powder or maybe when she almost burns the house down! I would definitely recommend this book to someone who likes to laugh out loud.

The Amelia Bedelia 40th Anniversary Collection is a perfect introduction to the one and only Amelia Bedelia. She is a wonderful source of amusement to my children (and me) when her literal interpretations of words causes happy chaos to the world around her. The stories and illustrations are a perfect match. All the Amelia Bedelia books are a joy to read!

Merry mayhem begins in the first story that introduces Amelia as she begins work as the housekeeper for the unsuspecting Mr. and Mrs. Rogers! Amelia proves, thanks to her delicious lemon meringue pie, it is indeed true, that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach!

Our son found the 'Play Ball' baseball story hilarious! Once again Amelia interprets the rules of the game in her own unique convoluted way. On the field and off there is no one like her.

The third story, was our daughter's favorite. It has Amelia helping Mrs. Rogers with a Surprise Bridal Shower that turns out like no other! The results of which are guaranteed to make you laugh! Enjoy!

Created in 1963 by Peggy Parish, Amelia Bedelia has amused and entertained children of all ages ever since. Amelia is a very literal housekeeper, and if not for her exceptional skill in the kitchen baking goodies, it is hard to think that she would be employed at all! Her literalness is the root of many adventures and the cause of great hi-jinx and amusement.

To celebrate this anniversary, HarperTrophy, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, has put together a boxed collection of three of the most popular Amelia Bedelia titles. Amelia Bedelia is a housekeeper who takes her instructions quite literally. Reading the list of chores that her employer has left her, Amelia begins with "Dust the furniture." How odd, Amelia thinks to herself. "At my house we undust the furniture." Children love reading about the antics of silly Amelia Bedelia for myriad reasons. It's an early reader book, so children in primary grades can take satisfaction in reading the book on their own. But, even more thrilling, children who are 6 and older can successfully interpret the figurative meaning behind most adult idioms. Being told to "keep an eye on the cat," for example, might compel some preschoolers to stick their eyeballs on a cat's face, eliciting peals of laughter from know-it-all grownups. Wonderful 'First reader' Book!.......2006-11-10

A fun (and funny) book which will delight kids with Amelia's well-intentioned but mistake-laden chores. Kids feel empowered because they are 'smarter' than the character and are able to cheer her on. In the end, Amelia's good deeds overpower any mistakes she makes.

I recommend this book for any child who is beginning to read on their own!

We Love You Amelia Bedelia!.......2006-09-22

This is surly a kids favorite since I was a little girl! We join Amelia Bedelia as she starts her first day of work for the Rodgers. They rush off shortly after she arrives, but they've left her a list of things to do. Should be a snap, as all the tasks are simple and clearly stated...but that's what you think...Amelia Bedelia begins completing each chore in quite a literal fashion...drawing the drapes and much, much more! Younger kids (1-4) will like the silliness of it and beginner readers and more savvy grade schoolers (5-8) will like that's it's simple and clever/silly too! I recommend it without reservation! I'm sure Amelia will be with us, teaching fine lessons about the words we use and the many means they can have for generations to come!

In a language where so many words and phrases have multiple meanings, there's no doubt that the literal-minded Amelia can be kept busy through many a book. The fact that it's funny is just the thing to get young readers hooked.

Amelia, beginning her new job as maid for Mr and Mrs Rogers, makes a pie and then tackles her to-do list. Dust? Well, at her house, they un-dust, but she's going to do as she's told - so she finds sweet smelling dusting powder in the bathroom and spreads it throughout the living room. Draw the drapes? Not much of an artist, Amelia does her best. The pie is done just in time for the return of her employers. Mrs Rogers is surprised at Amelia's interpretation of such simple directions as "trim the fat"... and is about to fire her when Mr Rogers offers her a taste of Amelia's wonderful lemon-meringue pie. Mrs Rogers will just have to learn to say things Amelia's way, because they certainly don't want to lose someone who can make a pie like that!

Very funny, and it exposes young minds to the various meanings of words in English - easily one of the most complicated languages ever, and one that you just don't think about if it's your first language until you read a book like this! The book is rather old (copyright 1963) but is timeless and this is a great time to read it with your kids. As the Spanish-speaking population grows in the U.S., it's a great opportunity for kids today to realize just how hard English can be!

One day, while Amelia Bedelia, the housekeeper who literally takes everything literally, was cleaning, the phone rang. It was Mrs. Rogers, calling from the airport. She was supposed to meet the new teacher, but the plane was late. To further complicate matters the phone was out at the school. Mrs. Rogers wants Amelia to go by the school and tell them the teacher will not be there today. Amelia attempts to do just that, but the principal mistakes her for the new teacher and that's when all the fun starts. Amelia Bedelia teaching a classroom full of children, imagine that. Well, my almost three-year-old son Devon and I imagine it all the time.

Devon already knows his letters, upper and lower case. He knows they make words and he loves to sit while I read Amelia Bedelia stories to him. We've been doing it for over a year now. At first I made up the story line as his didn't have the attention span or the ability to understand. Now I've started reading, pointing to the words as I go along. Ms. Parish has written an excellent series for children and in this one, Lynn Sweat's illustrations set off Amelia's tales to a tee. If you want your toddler to read early, and I do, then this is a series for you.

My g-kids and I love the Amella Bedella series.. Not only because we are around lots of people who speak English as a second language.. But these books are funny and make them think.. These books teach how to use our language can be misunderstood, and that we should always say what we mean not assume that the other one will automatically understand what we mean.. Amelia Bedelia doesn't know the first thing about child care. In fact, she functions as a child herself! Naturally, the bumbling maid takes every written instruction literally and of course, you can count on her to bake something. When the child's parents return and see what a mess Amelia made of their place, naturally the wife goes ballistic. The husband shuts her up by shoving a wedge of strawberry tart down her throat. Once pacified with food, they relent and Amelia, drawn by a different artist and wearing a weird looking hat is back in their good books. Why? And did you ever notice that it is always the women who are silenced with food? You can be sure Amelia kept on baking as that was guaranteed to keep her employed.

This is a good resource to use for both content-area teachers and ELL teachers alike when introducing metaphors for the first time in elementary school. For ELL teachers, I think this book would be suitable for 3rd or 4th graders who have solid comprehension skills of basic idioms. It would be too hard for newcomers.

Calling Doctor Amelia Bedelia by Herman Parish, like all of his Amelia Bedelia books, is hysterically funny. Parish's use of expressions confuse Mr. Rogers' maid, Amelia Bedelia, throughout the entire story. Poor, silly, Amelia Bedelia never realizes how confused she really is. She takes everything anyone says literally, so when her boss Mr. Rogers says "jump in the car", she thinks that he actually means to sit in the car and jump.
In this story, Amelia Bedelia goes to the doctor. However, when she gets there the nurse asks for Amelia Bedelia's help with the patients. A woman who calls the doctor's office to complain that she has "caught a bug" is told to "let it go" by Amelia Bedelia. She proceeds to tell a woman who has hives to bring some honey to the doctor's office. She looks at a bank's clock to take a patient's temperature and she tells a boy to draw his own blood onto a piece of blank paper. A boy says that he is at the office for a test and Amelia Bedelia tells him that he must go to school.
No matter what Amelia Bedelia did for most of the book, she is a hit when she "treats" the patients to ice cream! This is not exactly what the nurse had in mind when she said to treat the patients, however, Amelia Bedelia comes out looking like a hero!
Amelia Bedelia is entertaining to the adults who read this story to children because we have an even better sense of Amelia Bedelia's silliness. I love reading this story to my second graders and they love hearing it!

amelia bedelia is very genuine in the sense that she just wants to make people happy but she ends up taking everything literally and doing just the opposite but in a funny way. She "staked" the beans, fed the chickens "scraps"...of cloth! And made "tea" cake that everyone raved over for instance.

Great entertaining book!.......2004-12-06

This is a very funny book and is especially good to be read to toddlers. When Amelia is asked to stake the beans, she ties steak to them. When she's asked to make a tea cake, she makes one with tea in it. It offers a very good example of how what we say makes all the difference in the world, and whether or not what we are saying is what is being understood. When Amelia is asked to weed the garden, she thinks she's supposed to add more weeds, not "unweed it" as she states in the story. It's a little long - about 50 pages in my edition so it's a little much for a youngster to sit through but if they can do it like mine can, it is a great book to teach. I highly recommend this one.

I think that Amelia Bedelia Helps Out is a good book. Amelia Bedelia is funny. She does everything the wrong way. She feeds the chickens with cloth instead of chicken food. She also makes her Tea cake the wrong way. She didn't pull the right weeds in the garden. I like it because Amelia Bedelia like to help out and I do too.

Yes, we always enjoy Amelia's adventure's and in this volume, we find Mrs. Rodgers rushing about getting read for Great-Aunt Myra visit. As usual, she gives Amelia a list of things to do while she's out and about (make a jelly roll, strip the sheets, check Mr. Rodgers shirts) and off she goes fulfilling those requests in the absolutely literal way that only Amelia Bedelia can! Kids will be amused to no end as Amelia tries to roll jelly around on the counter and paints checks on Mr. Rodgers shirts...watch out for her spot removal...it's a doozy! Amelia Bedelia books are a fine way to introduce children to the concept that what we say isn't always EXACTLY what we mean! Great for read aloud stores for kids age 1-5 as well as a fine beginning reader book for ages 5-7. Kids of all ages will love the hilarity of how Amelia gets the job done! Another hit with my kids!!

I use the book in my listening center. The students listen to the tape and read along in the book. It worked great. The students loved reading and looking at the pictures with the tape. Amelia Bedelia is a great book for any student, but I know my second graders love her. They think she is funny.

Amelia bedelia is a very funny character when Mrs.Rogers told amelia to do something she would the opposite.I think that it is a great book and i think you should read this book to find out what Amelia does the opposite of what she is supposed to do.

...This is a good book to read. It was really funny. Well about the book, Amelia Bedelia was hired to be a maid. But when I read it some of the words were in script. The first thing she did she cut up all the towels.

Great travel CD.......2005-07-26

I purchased a couple of different Books on CD for a long trip. Amelia Bedelia was one of the funniest. My 7 yr old son enjoyed it alot. I will also be able to either give them to the schools now for there use or keep them and borrow them out. I haven't quite yet decided. Whatever I do they will be enjoyed for years to come.
