I tried and wanted to like this story. I am only fifty pages into it and I can not make myself continue. The story is contrived. The punctuation horrible. The grammar and word usage is subpar. If I could have given this book a less than 1 star, I would have.

The heroine is anything but a leading character and the continuity of the storyline is lacking.

Pacing is horrible and frankly the dialogue is contrived. Samantha is a horrible Anita Blake rip off.

The book is going straight to the recycling bin. I'm glad I bought it used. Still a waste.

Disappointing.......2006-08-29

I wanted to like this book. I really did. Human private detective guards vampire family! What's not to like?

Well, for one thing, in this book, my first two sentences would have been one sentence, with no period, semicolon, or even a comma to separate them. That might not seem such a big deal, but it jerked me out of the story every time I had to reread a sentence to figure out what the author meant. Was this edited at all?

It didn't have very good world or character building either. Maybe the author was trying to introduce the background and characters slowly, with tantalising hints, but all I kept thinking was, "Where did _that_ come from?!?"

Nor did I like the whole "she's attracted to him, she's angry with him, he's trying to seduce her, he's angry with her" back-and-forth technique. It was too choppy and not believable. If the author was trying to create sexual tension that way, she failed miserably.

The transformation of a couple of the bad guys into apparent good guys just didn't work for me. And on a related topic, the sex scenes, and who she had sex with, made me think "Ick".

And I couldn't bear the, (in my opinion), totally gratuitous killing at the end.

There are other problems, but I won't prose on any longer. I was all set to buy the sequel when it came out, but now I'm not going to bother.

I didn't care for the way the story was written (many sentence fragments with little punctuation - not easy to read) nor did I like the "heroine" who wound up having sex easily with everyone but the person she had a relationship with. The situations, sex, violence all seemed contrived and gratuitous to me.

I think Gray does a remarkable job of blending the familiar and the not so familiar, creating a rich paranormal world with sexy and engaging characters

Good story, bad grammer.......2006-07-24

Ok, i read a lot of supernatural romances and this one is so-so. The story had a lot of potential, my only issue w/ the book was all the grammatical errors..I mean oh my god! A high school fresman could have written better! I was so sick of re-reading Sion Baptiste's name over and over again. What's wrong with just calling him Sion? I will probably read the sequels because the actually story was pretty good...but i hope she gets a new publisher! If there were no errors in this book i would have definetely given it a higher score...

Quality overview of the best of the Garou.......1999-10-27

beginning with a comic form short story, The history of the tribe from prehistory to the current decade is then described in a series of letters between tribe scholars. I would have like more detail here, but what's here is good. I would also have like to see more detailed info on tribe protocols, but structure info, and global polical view are good. Apart from the two points mentioned, this is an essential book for any werewolf enthusiast. One of my three must have werewolf books!

This book is good, rich in the Silver Fangs history. It has all the information you'll ever need about Silver Fang Heirarchy, including camps, houses and lodges. It also lists Silver Fang fetishes, rites, gifts and merits & Flaws. This book is not a waste of money for those that want to play a Silver Fang correctly. If you can find it, buy it.

I'm a fan of Albrecht, so this book really stands out XD

It was also nice to see he has no diplomatics skills whatsoever, the true Ahroun XDDD

This book has some nice sidekicks and I really enjoyed Albrecht's jokes.

The story was really fluent, and as also happens in the second tribe novel of this book, it really gets more and more interesting with every turning page.

Also the Glass Walker part of it is great XD

The best of the tribebooks.......2004-08-27

It is known that the tribebooks feature a story throughout the first coule of chapters. For most of these, the story often gets in the way of the information. However, in this tribebook the story reads like a novel, as King Albrecht is talked to by a group of Russian Fangs. In fact, this is the prequel to the last Werewolf novel, Last Battle. It also has all the neat new gifts and fetishes that Werewolf fans want in their tribebooks.

Highly recommended.
