But the man who talks to the dead lives on, more powerful than ever, able to transport himself instantly to any spot on the globe and to speak mind-to-mind with both the living and the dead.

Dry as toast.......2006-01-19
I can only compare Vanphyri to the other books that I have read in the series. The original Necroscope is a revelation. Necroscope 3: The Source, is a compelling new direction. Necroscope II, however, is neither. In fact, so little happens in this story that you could literally skip from "book one" to "book three" and not miss a beat. Besides, all the non-events of this story are summed up in one small paragraph in the first few pages of book three. Don't say I didn't warn you.
LUMLEY IS THE KING OF ORIGINALITY.......2004-08-26
When I read the first NECROSCOPE book a couple of years ago, I commented to a friend that it was unlike anything I had ever read before. Brian Lumley has a rich and fertile imagination populated by vampires, telepaths, and secret government organizations.
In N2: VAMPHYRI, Harry Keogh returns. Harry talks to dead people. Anyone he wants to. It seems the dead are restless and trapped in their singular worlds, like a person locked in a box with no one to pass the time with, they want to talk.
The first 80 pages or so of this novel are narrated by Faethor Ferenczy, an age old vampire pinned in his grave. It's all very dull, and the first time I tried to read this book I gave up after 80 pages of nothing happening. A few pages later, Faethor explains how Gorgina Budescu falls unconscious following an accident that claims the life of her husband. In her unconscious state, Faethor takes the opportunity to plan his seed in her womb, on her unborn son, Yulian. Years pass and Yulian develops into quite a creep. Unfortunately, he is also a vampire.
Brian Lumley is a genius. He doesn't just build on vampire lore he creates thousands of years of history that reinvents the legend from the seeds of it Rumanian roots. His creatures live to be over a thousand years old and find their origins well beyond a simple bite to the neck.
In N2, vampires are symbiotic creatures, cohabiting inside the bodies of their human hosts, with the result of enhancing both entities. The protoplasmic creatures give humans longevity, healing abilities, and enhancements in all endeavors. The host gives the creature mobility and purpose -- a vessel for accomplishment.
More interesting to me than the vampire story-line are the ESPers making up British INTESP and Soviet E-Branch. Teams of telepaths and psychics with various degrees of ability play politics on the fringe of the vampire menace. The more I read, the more I wanted Lumley to deviate from Bodescu and flesh out Alec Kyle, Carl Quint, and Zek Foener.
By the time Yulian is killed near the end of the novel, that story-line was taking a back-seat to the explanation of E-Branch and INTESP and their members. As a result of Zek's "husking" of Kyle, Keogh was able to adopt his body and teleport using the Mobius dimension.
An awesome read. Thoroughly enthralling.
Not my favorite.......2003-04-19
Its my least favorite book of the series, I did like the back story of "the thing in the ground" who will become quite a major character in the future.
Vamphyrhi.......2002-11-22
I think the book was great. The protaganist in the book, which was Harry Keogh helps a lot of people such as telling story about Thibor and Ferenczy's time and how he said he really talked to Thibor personally. I think the book was the greatest scary story fiction book ever and i liked it personally. it was like the movie "The Ring" except in a book. It was really bloody and lot of deaths involved. it was diabolical and satanic, a little bit.
Slow but Fresh.......2002-07-09
The story, which seems to drag on slightly slower than the previous volume, offer strange and facinating new insight into the authors theory of the wamphyri and vampirism. It does however get slightly redundant and predictable toward the end as it starts to run parralell to its predecesor. Even thus, it is still a gripping book.

DULL, TIRED & A CHORE TO READ.......2004-09-16
Before this novel, the Necroscope books were billed as a trilogy, well, Brian Lumley should have stuck with that plan. BL goes to the well again with book four.
This time, Harry Keogh has lost his ability to use the Mobius continuum. Faethor Ferenczy's other son, Janos has arisen to give Harry grief. It's the same Wamphyri story all over again. It even reads as though Lumley is tired of the formula.
With so much going for the series, its difficult to understand why BL doesn't break new ground with Keogh and the E-Branch. There are so many directions he could go that have nothing to do with vampires. With everything Ferenczy, the series has become too incestuous to continue reading.
Can't recommend this one. This is the low point in the series.
GREAT!.......2004-04-25
FABULOUS SERIES CONTINUES WITH THIS INSTALLMENT.LUMLEY'S NECROSCOPE SERIES IS ONE OF THE BEST OF ALL TIME VAMPIRE SERIES.LOTS OF ACTION,HORROR AND GREAT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MAKE THIS ONE OF MY FAVES.I WOULD JUST LOVE TO SEE THIS PUT ON THE SCREEN WITHOUT SOMEONE MESSING IT UP.
"The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward".......2003-08-25
Great story. Hum....come to think of it, I've read this somewhere else before? Oh yeah, it's the exact same premise as H.P. Lovecraft's "The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward" from 1941. If Lovecraft was still around he might even hire a copyright lawyer for this one. I strongly recommend anyone who has read this book to seek out Lovecraft's story; I even "more" strongly recommend reading Lovecraft first.
Anyway, despite the fact Lumley converted Lovecraft's tale into one of his "Necroscope" novels, I'll forgive him for the unoriginal idea, because this maybe one of the best books of the series. The read is easy and very fast paced. Character development as always is excellent. There is "plenty o' mean & evil" throughout.
Definitely read the Lovecraft story though....
great!! Get this book!.......2002-11-10
What can I say? I love horror books and Vampires are my favorite creatures. I usually like stories from the Vampire point of view like in Anne Rice novel and mostly stood clear of the Vampire Hunter stuff. I picked up the first Necroscope book because of the skull on the cover, I'm glad I did! I was totally sucked into the world of the Necroscope, the vampires and the ESP agents. The series is so well written and each character so original to the point where you can't help but want to read more.
Unlike Anne Rice's VC which has dragged down to ... over the years Brian Lumley's series continues to get better and better and the characters more and more interesting, not to mention his Vampires are so original and sinister, they take no ... from anyone. There is really nothing I can say but read the series, all of it (which I'm in the middle of doing right now) you will not be disppointed! So if you're sick of feeling like you're being pumped out of your money by vampire authors who don't care what they put paper then buy this book and restore your faith
in the genre.
A VERY GOOD SERIES, JUST GETS BETTER.......2002-03-24
I thought this book was very good...Every story Lumley has, brings you in and keeps you in his world of the Vamphyri... The story moves slow at times, but the action that comes keeps you reading long into the night!!!!

Book Description
The third book in the Necroscope series traces the battle between Harry Keogh and the horrifying Vamphyri on their home ground, an alien landscape of looming towers, impossible cliffs, and ravenous vampire-beasts.
Russia's Ural Mountains hide a deadly secret: a supernatural portal to the country of the vampires. Soviet scientists and ESP-powered spies, in a secret military base, study the portal--and the powerfully evil creatures that emerge from it, intent on ravaging mankind.
When Jazz Simmons, a British agent sent to infiltrate the base, is captured by the KGB espionage squad and forced through the portal, his last message tells Harry Keogh, the Necroscope, that the vampires are preparing for a mass invasion.
Harry has only one option--to strike first. He must carry the human-vampire war to the vampire's own lands. But his strongest psychic power will be useless there. What good is the power to summon the dead in a country where nothing ever dies, where every man, woman, and child become half-dead servants of the Vamphyri?

I just love them all.......2007-01-09
It doesn't matter what book, if it is by Brian Lumley, and it is part of the series you need it. I love every book he has written. They are so good I just wish they would never end. The information in the book is great. The way he words things makes it really easy to picture what your reading. I reccomend this book for anyone who likes reading vampire stuff and Horror, After reading Brian's books no other book has been as good since.
Weakest of the Trilogy.......2006-04-12
I really enjoyed "Necroscope" (a classic) and "Vamphyri", but this third novel was a disappointment. Most of the exiting elements occur 'offscreen' and are told second-hand; a lot of time is spent on infodumps about the history and geography of the vampire world, which weakened the drama; far too many exclamation points!!! I've heard great things about "Deadspeak" and "Deadspawn", so I will give them a try.
ALMOST PERFECT HORROR STORY.......2004-09-06
This has been THE best of the Necroscope books and I'm half way through #4. N3 has plenty more action and wierdness in comparison to the other entries in the series. It begins with Soviet E-Branch discovering a portal to another dimension/universe a la STARGATE. Only the portal leads to the origin planet of the Wamphyri!
Jazz Simmons, a British agent is sent--unsuspectingly--to the Perchorsk Project. He learns of a Wamphyri warrior who made it through the portal to the Russian side, where he was immediately burned to cinders in a violent demise. Jazz, the Soviet's enemy, soon finds himself "volunteered" to go through the portal as a Guinea Pig. Prior to being forced through, he learns that others have been banished there ahead of him and there has been no communication from them.
Within, Jazz meets the Travelers, humans constantly on the run from the Wamphyri, who feed on them like cattle. Jazz soon meets up with another esper, Zek Foener, shoved through the portal about a month prior to Jazz. Sparks fly, but the problem is, they learn they cannot return through the same way the came it. Big problem.
Enter Harry Keogh, who is still seeking his missing wife and son. Harry has learned to better control the Mobius continuum and looks for a way out for his friends.
Some real frights in this episode, but Lumley spends too much time on the history and sociology of the Wamphyri and not enough on the truly interesting Perchorsk Project side where the real terror builds. Though billed as the third in a trilogy, this book easily stands alone and could be read without the first two books preceding it. Excellent horror book. Almost perfect.
THE BEST!!.......2004-05-01
FORGET EVERYTHING ELSE.IF YOU WANT TO JUMP INTO THIS SERIES THEN THIS IS THE BOOK.LUMLEY RECAPS EVERYTHING FOR YOU SO YOU ARE NOT IN THE DARK.HARRY KEOGH, THE NECROSCOPE EXCELS IN THIS CLASSIC!!THE SOURCE IS A GATE BETWEEN TWO WORLDS.NAMELY EARTH AND THE "SOURCE" OF VAMPIRES.TONS OF SUBPLOTS,GREAT CHARACTERS AND LOTS OF GREAT READING.I'VE READ ALL OF THE NECROSCOPE SERIES BUT THIS BOOK BY FAR SETS THE BAR FOR EXCELLENCE.I'LL SAY AGAIN WITH THE RIGHT PRODUCTION THIS SERIES WILL KILL ON THE SCREEN.AAAAAAAAAA+++++++

Brian Lumley: Deadspawn.......2005-08-08
This book is very well written and I love the story line. I have read the previous 4 books in the series, too, and they are all awesome!!
Great book.......2003-03-06
As much as I love the series so far, I thought this one was not the best.
Deep, Heavy, Satisfying........2001-08-18
This fifth installment of the Necroscope series tackles the world of protagonist Harry Keogh in a much broader scope than ever before. I consider the previous volume, Deadspeak, as a warmup to this fine work of fiction. True to his Lovecraftian roots, Lumley challenges the reader to delve into areas of knowledge that defy men's minds to comprehend.
As the Necroscope battles foes both human and inhuman, his struggles remain primarily internal. Striving to find deeper meaning in the world around him, Harry seeks the true nature of the mysterious Mobius Continuum that has served him to well over the years. He learns new and terrible powers that blur the line between life and death itself!
Heartbreaking events abound in this conclusion to the original Necroscope 5-part series. Harry is saddened to learn that it was not his Necroscopic abilities that made him unique, but rather his innocence. For there are others possessed of the same awesome powers, but not so kind of heart! We also learn the fate of the Dweller, aka Harry Jr., and Victor Luchov, the Projekt Director of Perchorsk.
Lastly, in an epilogue reminiscent of Stephen King's masterful The Stand, we (along with Harry) gain insight into the nature of Evil itself, as well as a glimpse back to the paradoxical genesis of the Wamphyri themselves!
DEADSPAWN!.......2000-03-02
I loved this book! Harry Keogh, the wonderful character that you come to know and love through the miraculous series of books, takes on a whole new definition of "different." I find Lumley's vampires facinating; they're not the typical vampires, that's a given. If you're tired of Anne Rice and her pitiful, innocent vampires, check this one out! A masterful conclusion!
better than anne rice's vampire stories.......1999-10-29

Customer Reviews:
Far from his best.......2006-08-30
I unintendedly wrote a very long review... here it is in short... if you like horror and pulp-fiction, stick to the first three books by Brian Lumley, which are actualy very good (Necroscope, Vamphiry, The Source). As for Blood brothers, if you are not a fan of the series I would advise to do something else with your time and money.
I have found this book to be the worst so far from the Necroscope series. The series had a great start with the book Necroscope, which is a unique blend of mystery and spy literature, horror and pulp-fiction which draws the reader from the first page (actually, I read that book in two days, I just couldn't stop reading it!).
The follow up, Vamphiry is a little less interesting but still has some of the excitement of the first one, with its unique way to put together such intense elements, adding serial killers in this one. So far so good.
The decline begins in the thrd book, where it becomes apparent the weak basis upon which the author has built his fiction. So far as it was "light" literature, it worked just fine. The problem is that in this book Brian Lumley begins to explore metaphisical, even theological subjects, and with the lack of a well rounded mythology to sustain him, he soon falls in common places, naive remarks and in some (the worst) cases, contradictions. It is apparent that the author does not have an equivalent to "The Silmarillion" of Tolkien, which is the core mythology that makes the whole Hobbit-Lord of the Rings series so "real".
In the following book, "Deadspawn" it gets so bad that at the end the necroscope has become some sort of semi-god (It even presents some paralelism with the resurrection of the Christ). However, the story is interesting enough to get you through the pages without much suffering, even though it requires a certain effort to ignore the frequent inconsistencies that come one after the other.
Finally, Blood Brothers. The inconsistencies get even deeper, the mesianism of the main characters is even more evident and, to top it all, it is BORING. Actually, this books seems to be only a long introduction to a new series, with a story that never gets a climax nor a conclusion. SO in this book, the series has lost everything, even structure and excitement. This is the last book I will read from Brian Lumeley in a long, long time measured only by the Moebius continuum.
Better than I had expected.......2006-04-05
I just read this after reading the first 5 books of the Necroscope series.
I must confess that I was not prepared to like this book. I'd read the first 5 books of the series and was a little bit tired of the whole plight of the characters. Yes, vampires are evil and the humans are good. However, since this books takes place in a different world than ours and involved new characters, I found myself really enjoying this book once I got past the first 100 pages.
Since this book is cotinuation of the story of the Necroscope, if you haven't read the first 5 books, you're going to be a little bit lost. Seriously, why pick up a book in the middle of the series. If you're new to this, go to the beginning and start there. You won't enjoy this one as much. I'm on the next book and loving it.
For star-crossed brothers; "What as been, will be....".......2005-10-13
The first in the trilogy of twin brothers and their epic tale of discovery. Nathan, heir to the light his father brought to the dead, and Nestor, despised by the dead for his own "arts".
A tale of epic porportions in the best Lumley tradition.

i've never been a type of person who like to read books, but i've allways liked vampires and when i read the book i was toatlly amazed! the words were soo vivid and i felt like i was in the story.....i could picture the characters in my head as they were happening.....
Great start to an AMAZING trilogy........2001-06-22
This first book, "Blood Brothers," is an amazing start to my favorite Brian Lumley trilogy, "The Vampire World." You are introduced to Harry Keogh's talented son, and from then on the story unfolds...
Don't let me tell you what happens, read it for yourself, you'll love it!

Book Description
To test of the power of God, an insane triad of malevolent aliens decides to become so evil that God himself will have to stop them. They have already destroyed their homeworld, an entire solar system, and most of their own race. Their next target: Earth!
In addition to advanced science mankind can only dream of, the Mordri Three have the unique ability to forever alter skin, bone, and muscle with a simple touch. Once this powerful touch was used only for healing, but the Mordri Three use it as a weapon, literally turning people inside out, mutating them in front of their horrified loved ones, or seeding them with cancer.
Scott St. John is mourning the painful death of his beloved wife when he is struck by a golden arrow of light—a fragment of the soul of Harry Keogh, the original Necroscope—and gains powers he does not understand. Soon after, a mysterious, beautiful woman begins appearing everywhere he goes. She warns him to keep silent—about what, he does not know—and keeps trying to tell him something critically important, but each time, she vanishes before she can fully explain. And Scott begins to dream of a very unusual Wolf, who begs Scott—in human speech—to rescue him before the hunters come.
A fledgling Necroscope, a telepathic Wolf, a beautiful woman from beyond the stars, the ghost of Harry Keogh, the best of E-Branch’s psychic fighting forces, and a dead girl who is not yet ready to seek her just reward must defeat three impossibly strong, psychically gifted monsters whose touch literally melts flesh from bone.

Good book.......2007-05-15
Not the best book by this author but good none the less. a must have for all those necroscope junkies like me.
Not the usual Lumley.......2007-05-12
I guess it was a bit of a comedown from the previous Necroscope books. Not enough Harry Keough and too much fluff. Rather boring and easy to put down and do something else. You can do much better, Brian. Try again.
Necroscope "rocks".......2007-05-12
Well...maybe "rocks" isn't the best word, or then again, maybe it is. I love all the stories of this series. My ONLY complaint is that there are not more of them in the making (or are there?). I didn't particularly care for the ending, only because it smacks of a kind of finality that might indicate no sequels. Not that it wasn't good...just hoping there are more to follow. If you liked the others, you'll like this one also.
Totally engrossing!.......2007-01-08
There are certain events indelible events in each of our lives, and one of mine is the my first reading of Brian Lumley's original NECROSCOPE novel. Many, many moons ago, I ran across the novel in one of those cushy bookstores, plucked it off the shelf and settled into a nice bouffy on-site sofa to read a couple of paragraphs in the early afternoon. The next thing I knew, a bookstore employee was telling me they were closing the store and I had to leave. It was nine o'clock in the evening, and I was starving, so I purchased the book, retired to a restaurant and finished NECROSCOPE that night. I can remember thinking, Wow, someone ought to make a move out of this, and guess what! They're going to make a movie out of it! Check out the NECROSCOPE film website at [...]. NECROSCOPE: THE TOUCH is Mr. Lumley's fourteenth (I think--but who's counting?) novel in the smash series, and his first Necroscope novel in five very long years! Let me catch you up on the story a little bit: A Necroscope is a person who possesses a very special talent, that being the ability to converse with the dead. One of my favorite serial characters, Harry Keough, was the original Necroscope, who spoke with the dead to save the living from otherworldly vampires and other planet-imperiling entities, and who could travel anywhere he wished via a Moebius strip. In this new Necroscope novel, Harry's power is regenerated in a brand new character called Scott St. John, who comes to possess Keough's powers and becomes the new Necroscope. It's said that St. John is going to battle a trio of alien beings (the Mordi Three) so horrifically evil that the only power that can stop them is God! The Mordi Three have already destroyed their own solar system and most of their kind, and they have turned their attention toward the destruction of Earth! How is it all going to end? I don't know! The book hasn't been published as this writing (sob), but you can be sure I have pre-ordered my copy from Amazon.com! By the time you read this, NECROSCOPE: THE TOUCH will be available for purchase, so quick! Click on the cover graphic and get your copy! Joy!
Can't sink my teeth as deep into this one..........2006-11-13
So NECROSCOPE: THE TOUCH tells the story of average bloke Scott St. John, who carries on the legacy of the Necroscope. Scott, for three months, three weeks, and three days now, has been immersed in grieving for his recently dead wife, Kelly. Of late, he's been inexplicably waking up at 3:33am. Strange things are happening. He hears voices in his head, is having odd intuitions, dreams of darts of golden light, and is kidnapped and held for questioning by a weird, covert government agency. To make matters worse, Scott, in due course, begins to question the manner of his wife's passing. Further nosing around leads him to suspect a reclusive healer of actually murdering Kelly. Along the way, he meets an enigmatic woman who calls herself Shania the Shing't and a telepathic Wolf, both of whom inform Scott that he's the third member of their trio; he is, in fact, the One.
Eventually, Scott learns of and prepares to face off the Mordri Three, three murderously insane alien beings who have annihilated their own world and then several others in an attempt to call out and destroy God. The Mordri Three are not only armed with advanced technology but are also equipped with the inherent power to morph flesh and bone; this power was erstwhile designed to heal but, in the hands of these three, is now being used to punish, torture, and murder people, sometimes by cruelly turning them outside in. But, Scott is not without his own resources. The gifted Shania and Wolf are more than eager to help him gain vengeance on his wife's killer. And, somewhere, lurking in the periphery, the E-Branch, the governmental arm consisting of extrasensory talented personnel, is waiting to lend a hand.
But Scott's greatest asset is that dart of golden light which had struck him, a gift from the deceased Harry Keogh, the original Necroscope. Scott is naturally hesitant to use the abilities granted him (the Moebius Continuum is just too mathematically profound - and who really wants to talk to the dead?). But Scott realizes that, to save the world and get his revenge on against the Mordri Three, he must utilize all his advantages, even if it means coming in contact with the shambling, rotting Great Majority...
NECROSCOPE: THE TOUCH chronologically falls somewhere in between NECROSCOPE: DEADSPAWN (where Harry Keogh dies) and BLOOD BROTHERS (first in the Vampire World trilogy, starring Harry's twin sons). To be honest, this book is just okay for me, a fair-to-middling page-turner. It doesn't contain the same excitement and intensity found in the previous Necroscope and E-Branch books. The sense of personal jeopardy just wasn't there. And, yes, a lot of what's missing has to do with the absence of the Wamphyri, who are great, great villains and exquisitely get under your skin, and also with the lack of an adequately intriguing protagonist whom the reader can get behind. Scott St. John is a realistic character caught in unusual circumstances and comes to the table with a normal guy's sensibilities, which was somewhat interesting. But Scott pales in comparison to Harry Keogh and the more take charge Jake Cutter. For most of the book's length, Scott fumbles his way thru, wallowing in uncertainty, and spends much of his time lamenting and agonizing. Understandable, given how much he loved his wife Kelly but I, as the reader, quickly got bored with that routine. Another minus to me is the uninteresting villains. Sorry, but the Mordri Three just do not do it for me, I don't care how lethal or psychotic they are. Bring back the vampires. Mind you, Shania the Shing't and Wolf are great characters and you can't ever go wrong with the reliable folks up at E-Branch. And it's also nice touching base with Zek and Wolf Sr. But I'm glad this is a stand alone novel because I don't know if I would've been able to last a full trilogy.

Amazon Book Review
Welcome to Brian Lumley's wild world of vampires, slayers, spies, and psychics, created in his breakthrough 1986 book Necroscope, which introduced Harry Keogh, a man who could commune with dead people. Harry was such a skilled linguist of "deadspeak" that the British Secret Service recruited him into E-Branch, its ace paranormal unit. Harry waged a war against vampires--until the tables turned and he became another bloodsucking statistic. No longer a Necroscope (top vampire hunter), now he's a kind of advisor who beams helpful thoughts from the afterlife.
E-Branch's vampire woes intensify in Necroscope Defilers, the 12th installment of Lumley's series. A trio of seriously nasty critters are spreading their spawn on earth, but E-Branch is in crisis. Jake Cutter, the new Necroscope, is preoccupied with a personal vendetta--he's hunting down the Sicilian mobsters who killed his girlfriend. Jake also faces another minor distraction--a dead vampire named Korath is stuck inside his head, whispering evil nothings into his ear all day long. As the unholy monsters descend upon the Greek island of Krassos, it seems all hell will break loose--literally. Will Jake return to E-Branch and help annihilate this unholy scum, or is mankind doomed?
Although Necroscope Defilers is a little light on original plot twists, Lumley's curious country is still a land worth visiting, halfway between science fiction and dark fantasy. --Naomi Gesinger
Book Description
Jake Cutter is reluctantly learning how to be a Necroscope--how to use the Mobius continuum to travel instantaneously from place to place, how to talk to the dead--but dead humans don't like him much. It seems Jake's got a hitchhiker named Korath. Since Korath holds the key to the Mobius equations, Jake can't just kick him out . . . though he's certainly trying.Jake's not sure he really wants to be a member of E-Branch, the supersecret ESP-powered organization that's dedicated to eradicating the vampire infestation of Earth. To the freewheeling, passionate Jake, the E-Branchers seem a little stuffy and hidebound--except for the lovely Liz, whom Jake wants to get to know better, body and mind. But Liz is a telepath, and if Jake's not careful, she'll find out about Korath. And that will likely be the end of Jake Cutter. In Australia, Jake helped E-Branch destroy the aerie of the mind-master , Nephtam Malinari, one of a trio of Great Vampires who came to Earth from the vampire world. Malinari escaped and went to ground with the hideously beautiful Lady Vavara. Vavara has taken over a holy monastary on a beautiful Greek island and turned the nuns into most unholy creature with fearsome appetites for all things carnal.Jake wants revenge against the Italian mobsters who killed the woman he loved and nearly killed him. As far as he's concerned, E-Branch can search for Malinari, Vavara, and the metamorphic Lord Szwart without him until he's satisfied his own bloodlust. But it seems vampire hunting is truly Jake's job now--the men he's trying to kill aren't men at all, but vampire spawn, hidden for two generations in human guise! To defeat them, Jake will need every weapon in a Necroscope's arsenal, including the power to all the unsleeping dead out of their moldering graves.
Customer Reviews:
Brian lumeys necroscope series has become part of my life;.......2002-02-10
Better than stephen king or dean koontz. If you are ever looking for an author to read and read, Brian Lumley is it. I have read off hand probably 15 books of the same story, characters, and cant wait for the next one.
Disappointing.......2001-08-13
I thought this was the weakest of the Necroscope series. Lumley is trying to turn his vampire stories into romances. He spent way too much time describing his lovely women and the virile Jake. I yawned! Where's the action???
The Whamphyri are back!.......2001-06-28
This is true Brian Lumley. He is successfully able to weave yet another tale in the continuing saga of the Whamphyri and E-Branch. As usual this is a book you'll be unable to put down. Lumley grabs your attention and keeps it. You'll be sorry when you reach the last page. Let's hope there are many, many more Lumley tales of the Whamphyri, Necroscope and E-Branch in the future.
Great Series.......2001-05-26
If you haven't read the Necrosope series - what are you waiting for? This series takes the well worn vampire topic and puts a spin on it. A little bit of horror, little fantasy, and a lot of suspense make for a great story. I recommned starting with the first Necrosope and working your way through the series.
Another Vampiric hit for Brian Lumley!.......2000-12-22
He keeps them coming. E-Branch and its followers have their hands full with these old Whamphri and its nonstop action. Its just another addition to an already perfect collection.

Massive story potential wasted.......2006-07-04
Huge fan of the orginal Necroscope series. Abandoned Ship half way thru the Vampire World trilogy. Was plenty pleased when I found these books which took place back in the world I loved of Europe, a mostly normal Harry, and E-Branch.
Things started great. Awesome characters, awesome backstory on the characters. All the foundations for a killer story to unfold. The first book was cool, but lacking of any meat which was fine but cause I knew it'd all be in book 2 anyhow. Only, it wasn't. Not even 300 pages into it. Mind you, there's stuff going on all throughout. But when you sit back and think on it, you realize that pretty much everybody's just sitting around doing nothing.
The horror aspect is pretty nil and as well the graffic depictions of sex and violence.
The plot constantly builds and builds but there is no pay off. Nobody gets their plan even remotely into action which sucks after reading a thousand pages of them talking about doing it.
In the end, Lumley ruins everything by breaking one of his established rules of the universe he created. This is in regaurd the dead rising out of love for the Necroscope. Hey, screw it, I guess anybody can.
And worst of all, what you basically get are two Necroscope books without a Necroscope, cause all his powers have been taken away. Nobody wants to watch a movie about Superman getting beat up by a trucker.
Twoard the end, his writing gets a little repetitive and a lot of annoying. Innocent? quatrain. Innocent...?
Could have been pretty exciting. Instead, we get a lot of bombs. Litteraly. Still, I read damn near the whole thing in one day so it must have fairly entertaining, hence my 3 stars.
fills the gap.......2001-10-11
I was introduced to the NECROSCOPE series in 1990 by a co- worker, and have been a rabid fan from that day forward.
The one big problem I allways had reading this series was the big gap in time(and plot) between "wampheri" and "the source". a These two books not only explain the time gap but the confusing plot quirks in the following books. Did the Mr Lumley have this in mind when writing the original series? My guess is yes, because it not only ties the origional series SO SWEETLY to the "vampire world" books,it never once appears an attempt to "cover up" an error.
Werewolves Enter The Necroscope World!.......2000-03-15
"The second book in the Lost Years (Necroscope) two book set. It made me lose any previous scepticism I had about dragging on this series. I was hooked. By the end of the book I hungered for more damned it! Now what the heck do I do?
Too Busy!.......1999-12-02
I'm a big fan of Lumley's Necroscope books, but I have to say, The Lost Years could very well have STAYED lost, and it would have been...well...no great loss. This book takes place between the 2nd and 3rd Necroscope books; since we already know the destiny of Harry, (AND his wife and 3 children as well..) the book suffers from the "Where is this going" syndrome. Don't get me wrong- Necroscope readers WILL get their moneys worth. NON-FANS will, however, be totally lost. The book was just too bogged down with characters- Harry, E-Branch, Ferenczys/Francezis, Radu, Bonnie Jean...The only character I really connected with, (Inspector Ianson) vanishes FAR too quickly. And even though I had read the previous 9 books, at times I was totally confused. Not a bad effort, but..not Lumley's best. (Try the original Necroscope for some REAL thrills and chills!) dan.reilly@viahealth.org
Now its time for the werewolves tale!.......1999-07-24
This is a great read. Lumley once again uses his amazing talent to telling the story of the origin of the werewolf plus so much more. Both of these books are worth every penny and then some, but in my opinion, the trilogy of the vampire world is just a tad better. But this is pulse-pounding reading just the same! Turn out the lights - I dare you!

NECROSCOPE Series.......2005-08-10
I have never found a book by Brian Lumley that I have not thouroghly enjoyed, nor have I found one that I have not wanted to put down. If you choose to try his books, any of them, I recommend that if it is one of a series, that you buy the entire series. Otherwise you will regret not having the next book to pick up and start reading right away. I bought the series for my girlfriend and she felt the same way.
OUT OF BREATH.......2004-04-25
THIS IS THE FINALE TO THE BLOOD BROTHERS TRILOGY AND WOW, ALMOST TOO MUCH TO TAKE IN.IF YOU READ THE FIRST 2 BOOKS OR ALL OF THE SERIES THEN YOU WILL LOVE THIS. LOTS OF MAYHEM AND ALMOST TOO MUCH GOING ON BUT I LOVED IT.LUMLEY'S VAMPIRES ARE FEROCIOUS. GUESS THATS WHY I LOVE IT.TONS OF SUBPLOTS AND AGAIN GREAT CHARACTERS HAD ME RE-READ THIS AT LEAST 4 TIMES.RECOMMENDED!
Tedious and badly paced.......2004-03-30
I did my best to finish this book, but I found it tedious and unenjoyable. The plot is thin and it develops too slowly. The action scenes are poorly paced, completely unexciting to read. Most of the verbiage focuses on long exposition about the thoughts of the book's many (way too many) main characters.
The story viewpoint shifts from character to character, but not in a logical, episodic way, like in the Lord of the Rings switching from Frodo to Aragorn when each is at a stopping point. Instead it's stream of consciousness: 1) a good guy thinks about a bad guy 2) we see what the bad guy is thinking about for while, then the bad guy thinks about his henchman, 3) then we see the henchman and he thinks about his girlfriend ... etc for 800 pages.
Next time: less telling and thinking, more showing and doing.
Left Behind............2003-09-16
Don't ask me why, but when I was about half way thru this book I started skimming page after page. Similar story lines rehashed over and over, yet written from a slightly different character perspective to appear a little different. Lots of wordy paragraphs with no real action. It reminded me of reading the long drawn out "Left Behind" series. In defense of Lumley, he most likely felt compelled to explain the same past events over and over in every book of the series. With this being the 8th book, most of it ends up being a rerun for the faithful readers. Also trying to combine horror, science fiction, romance and spiritual themes in one book was just too much. Too many loose ends. I was bummed when finishing the first five books of the original Necroscope series, because I was left wanting more. With this trilogy I glad I done and am going to take a break from Lumley for awhile. Obvously you can't read the first two books and not this one. Just don't drop to many $$$ to complete the trilogy.
Quite possibly my favorite book ever...........2003-08-31
The subject says it all. Easily the best vampire novel written since Dracula, and that's a lot of books. Heck, one of the best horror novels ever written, period. The conclusion to one of the best series (really, the vampire world trilogy is a continuation of the Necroscope trilogy, so you should consider both series as one large series) of books I have ever had the pleasure of reading, and it's well worth every page. There is not one single dull, dry moment in this book. You can read it on its own...but to get the full effect, read the other books (at least the Vampire World trilogy) first. Then be prepared - this book packs one HECK of an emotional wallop!
My hat is off to Mr. Lumley. The best book, bar none, I have ever read.

Excellent Read.......2007-05-22
If you like stories about Vampires then this will fill the bill. I am amazed at how quickly I was able to read this novel. The pages flew by. The only criticism I have is that most of us really like the Vampire legend and I found it disappointing that the author had to change the legend for no really good reason. Things like refletions in a mirror, shape-shifting were really not necessary to alter and didn't add enjoyment to the story. I cannot figure out why authors feel obliged to do that except that they can. Other than that it was a great read.
#1 Vampire Novelist.......2007-03-21
Brian Lumley outshines Ann Rice by far. Once you start the series, you won't be able to put it down. I've owned the intire sieres for years now, and had to replace this one as I had loaned it to someone to read and it wasn't returned. I now have the full set again, and it WON'T be loaned out again! Signed James A. Sperry
Finally a true vampire horror.......2007-03-07
If you enjoy a story where monsters ARE monsters, and are to be feared, not cheered, you'll enjoy Necroscope. This thriller novel keeps maintains palpable tension throughout combining ESP powers, occult, and vampires with espiange. Harry grows into a Necroscope (Converses with the Dead) seeking answers about his mother's death. Meanwhile, Boris is a powerful Necromancer, (rips secrets from the Dead) seeks a birthright from a vampire. I was so engrossed into the story 120 pages flew by before I remembered that there were 2 tales being told.
Brian Lumley's vampire is a refreshing twist on the standard. The monsters exude evil and horror even when off scene. Lumley's vampire is a mix of King's Salem's Lot and E.E. Knight's Vampire Earth. Some of the villans are complex in that you sometimes sympathize with them and are refreshingly surprised that some are capable of committing good deeds. Part coming of age, part spy thriller, the novel's final 100 page sprint requires you to completely suspend reality (still worth 5 stars) as Harry comes into his powers. But the final twist and finish is well worth the read.
The best vampire stories ever........2007-01-29
I love vampire fiction.... and of all the authors I have read, Brian Lumley is without a doubt my all-time favorite! I was hooked on his books from the first one I read (Necroscope) and had to read each and every one after that!
Best ever !!!!!!.......2006-09-11
This series rocks. I have read ALL of Lumley's books after I read Necroscope and the following 4 books in the series. I have since purchased all his books. His wanderings into different genres is great - he goes from Horror (Necroscope) to fantasy (the Hero searies) with a little Science Fiction mixed in with all the novels. The Titus Crow series was jusat plain, if I may use a cliche, "awesome!"
Lumley is a writer's writer. I read an average of 100 to 150 books per year, from SF to Mistery to Westerns to Fantasy, or any other novel type I can pick up and I believe that Lumley belongs on that list with Wilson, Asimov, Clarke, Cherryh, and various other great writers.
If you are looking for pure entertainment, buy a Lumley book!
