Got a problem with grout? Open The Complete Photo Guide to Home Repair (to page 98) and watch your tiling worries dissolve before the simple beauty of photography. Black & Decker has anticipated your every question and problem with interior, exterior, and home systems repairs, and detailed the solutions in just over 500 pages. In no other human endeavor is a visual guide so important as home repair (well, maybe brain surgery), so this is a crucial aid to the handyperson. Easy-to-find sections on floors, insulation, roofing, chimneys, water heaters, wall switches, air conditioning, and much more are well-designed, brilliantly illustrated, and carefully outlined with step-by-step instructions from masters. The photos in particular are extremely valuable, offering many different views (sometimes even exploded) of the operation in question, and always showing just enough to communicate without overwhelming the reader with too much detail. These alone would be worth the price of the book, but the written explanations and instructions are also very helpful, offering tools, materials lists, and hints that wouldn't occur to the amateur. The book finishes with a maintenance schedule to help you keep repairs from becoming serious, and the end papers have conversion charts and tables that you'll use time and again. If you can't have Norm the master carpenter over to help you fix your old house, The Complete Photo Guide to Home Repair is the next best thing. --Rob Lightner

Never Received.......2007-05-28
This product was never delivered so I am very upset. I was charged for it but it was never delivered so I have to say I am very, very angry at Amazon for this inconvenience - especially since it was ordered as a gift for a very special person.
Home Repair.......2007-05-07
This is a good book for those do-it-yourselfers that like photos with their instructions. It covers a wide variety of general repairs and would be good for a novice to home repair
Good book.......2007-05-02
Its a great book to give you ideas for how to fix things or how to make general home improvements.
Very Complete Guide.......2007-03-09
This is wonderful and is now my "bible" for repairing just about anything. The best part? The pictures.....which make all the difference in the world for a "newbie" like me. The step by step instructions make the hardest tasks seem easy. If you want an all-in-one guide, this is the one to buy.
Comprehensive Home Repair.......2007-01-23
I haven't had a chance to really dig through this book. But gazing through, I found many useful topics with plenty of detailed information and associated pictures. I looked at a couple other home repair manuals and found this one to be the most comprehensive. I recommend!

Book Description
Updated to the 2003 International Building and Residential Codes, the fourth edition of Understanding Construction Drawings continues to highlight a range of real construction projects - from residential dwellings to commercial structures. This enhanced edition takes a detailed approach to reading construction drawings by providing thorough coverage that builds the foundation for a broad understanding of the entire construction process, - beginning with a simple duplex home that focuses readers on the fundamentals of views, lines, basic dimensioning, and symbols. Next, coverage of a multi-level single family home goes into more depth in orienting and cross-referencing drawings. The third section explores multifamily construction and is accompanied by more complex drawings for practice and more advanced interpretations. The final portion of the book introduces readers to elements of commercial construction, including structural steel, masonry, and reinforced concrete. A set of drawings accompanies each building so that readers can apply important skills and gain a "real-world" understanding of construction drawings.

Understanding construction drawings.......2007-03-05
The book is very informative how ever i feel some of the questions could have been a little more precise in what they were asking. I needed the book for my construction management class when i was taking another class on materials and methods for construction so a lot of information overlapped which helped concrete it in.
Beware USED books - Drawings are NOT included! .......2007-01-13
The book itself is generally good quality and well-written. I'm learning about construction & drawings for the very first time, so some info was hard for me to really understand - not enough explanation and, oh yeah - the DRAWINGS that are referred to throughout the ENTIRE book - uh... are NOT included! I HOPE someone sees this comment so that perhaps an addendum to the book's description could really warn buyers what they're in for by trying to save money on the used book. Honestly, you really lose at least half the value by not being able to refer to the plans...so: BUYER BEWARE!
Text book study.......2005-10-16
This book is laid out like a text book course of study, which I like, however one important thing to note is that there is no answer key for the tests. The answer key is a seperate book and I have been unable to locate it. Fortunately I work for a General Contractor and have been able to have my co-workers check my answers for accuracy. But as far as being a good source for systematic learning, this book definitely is.

Customer Reviews:
Residential Lighting - A Practical Guide.......2006-03-03
This is an excellent practical and technical book for learning about and designing lighting for a home. It's aimed at the professional, which I appreciate as an intern architect. Part of my job is to design sophisticated lighting schemes for custom homes, which takes a lot of experience and knowledge. This book has really helped me to pinpoint the different kinds of lighting needed for each space and how to place it and specify it in a professional way for the greatest effect. Most architects take years to learn this, but I'm getting a crash course by having this resource. It's not a fluffy coffee table book, it's a technical manual that teaches HOW to properly understand and design lighting for a residence. I highly recommend it.
Excellent Resource.......2006-02-25
This is the best book that I have seen on the topic. The practical advice is well balanced with technical information. A must-have for any Designer's Resouce Library.
Lighting secrets revealed!.......2005-11-29
As a designer, I can't say enough good things about Randall Whitehead's Residential Lighting, A Practical Guide. This is his follow up to his wonderful Lighting Up! A Practical Guide which has been a staple of the design community for seven years. All the best parts of the earlier book have been retained with the addition of more than 200 photos in both color and black & white.
The chapters have really been packed with up-to-the-minute information about many of the new technologies that are now becoming the norm, such as light emitting diodes (LEDs). There are also a whole new series of enlightening sections in the back of the book with great tips on how to run a design business, how to get published and how to deal with clients.
Randall's way of writing is very entertaining and I feel it has revitalized the often dry category of textbooks. His funny, casual method of doling out information really helps make this book a pleasure to read. His energy and humor is infectious as he lets readers in on the secrets and practices of good lighting for homes and gardens. What also sets this book apart from other texts on lighting is how he approaches the subject first from the aesthetic side then gradually lets the reader in on the technical reasons how lighting design works.
This is an inspirational reference guide for all aspiring designers... as well as for established design professionals like me. Even savvy homeowners will latch onto this book as the insider's guide to the secrets of great lighting.
A lighting technique that works!.......2005-04-22
I've read a few other lighting books over the years but found that Whitehead's approach is superior for creating moods in rooms. My wife and I prototype interiors in our home and the results from "A Practical Guide" have been outstanding. We move and change the lighting with temporary luminaires and various wattages to explore the various possibilities before using them in real designs for clients.
Beware - after buying into his concepts you will be frustrated by the lighting almost everywhere you go.
- jim
A Little Light Reading!.......2004-03-10
As a Design Instructor and Lighting Professional, I can attest that Randy Whitehead's book is an invaluable asset to both the beginning design professional or the savvy client. Photos, diagrams, intelligent definitions-high light the the text. The good humor and obvious talent that Randy Whitehead exhibits makes this book an enjoyable and easily accessible resource.
As a design instructor, I have found earlier examples of this author's books to be a dynamic addition to lecture presentations.
It would be a great addition to any library.

Customer Reviews:
Flipping Confidential.......2007-06-08
Good flow, somewhat humorous, decent motivator however; I felt the book left the new flipper without much to go on than generalized information such as "surround yourself with a great team", "buy the worst house on the best block" "keep a running budget" ect. If you have a lick of common sense this book is not for you.
Very Good.......2007-05-09
I first saw Property Ladder & got it mixed up with Flip that House. I like the former better because Kirsten tries to help and a lot of times the clients don't listen. It's kind of funny; well maybe not for the clients.
I just finished reading this book and loved it. Kirsten has a great sense of humor and gives great advice on keeping it during a flip. It's the how to, must have manual for flippers & even for someone doing a remodel.
Amazon had a really good price for this & Buying for Profit. Review for that one to follow after I finish reading it.
Great book on Flipping from the Host of Property Ladder.......2007-04-16
If you like shows about Flipping Houses-- this book is for you. Kemp goes well beyond what the tv show gives the reader and actually gives you the essentials to how to get started in flipping properties for profit. The book has a great personality as Kemp shares her own experiences in fixing up properties and sellng them for a profit. Throughout the book there are tips that are critical to being successful in real estate investsing, including: "You make Your money on the buy", as well as how to assemble a cracker team, and how to find properties.
If you are interested in learning more about Flipping, this is the book for you.

A little bit of everything, not much of anything..........2007-05-26
The problem with books such as these is that they do not always provide enough detail to really help you get the job done. This results in your having to buy additional books to supplement your knowledge.
In my case, I am currently remodeling my kitchen. I have never done this kind of work before; BUT, I figure that I am reasonably bright so I can learn as I go, right? I purchsed this book as it seemed to provide just about the best general reference out there.
As I mentioned above, though, it does not always provide a great deal of detail. The section on hanging drywall, for example, does not cover the subject with enough depth to teach an amateur how to do it cleanly and neatly. You will likely have to buy a specific drywall book for more information. Ditto for the section on windows, laying tile, etc.
The one subject so far that did seem to contain enough detail to get the job done was the section on wiring. I was able to add several outlets (and I have never done this kind of thing before) with the aid of this book alone.
I give it 4 stars as it serves it's purpose (an overview on home renovation) admirably. If you really want to learn these things in detail, though, you may want to look at the Black and Decker "Complete" how to books. In fact, this book appears to be a kind of "greatest hits" of the single subject books. Wide, but not deep.
Novice Reference.......2007-05-16
This book is a super resource for anyone who wants to do home improvement, but knows little or nothing about the process. Lots of photos with technical terminology enable the novice to communicate with the pros.
Black & Decker is the king of home improvement books..........2007-03-08
This book continues the excellence in the line of the Black and Decker series of "Photo Guide" books. No other book comes close to providing the quantity and quality of photos. The photos are clear and much better at communicating the task then standard illustrations. Every project is detailed with a handful of photos.
Great book. Great to have on the shelf as a reference book. Awesome book for first-time home owners that want to have a handle on do-it-yourself projects.
Best home improvement book for pros and novices.......2007-01-11
I find this book excellent due to the simple directions, tips, and photos and drawings that are clear enough so the reader can see all the details. Some improvement books have illustrations that leave you scratching your head in confusion.
an excellent book for both beginners and professionals........2007-01-10
It is an excellent book not only for handyman beginners with clear and beautiful photos, but also for construction professionals to review lots of details covering a typical residential building.

Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive book with great tips.......2007-05-06
Even though we recently had a Realtor walk through the house and make suggestions on minor improvements, I bought this book in case there were some things she didn't mention. The book is easy to read and nicely organized. It explains how to target your house to the buyers it will likely attract and how to how to look at your house from a buyer's perspective. It also includes a brief section on the selling process.
The book explains that a seller should make minor structural and cosmetic repairs, which any Realtor will tell you. But it has a handy checklist of all parts of the home to go through. It then delves into how to de-clutter and how to "stage" the house for selling. It also includes a checklist of things to do before anyone sees the house. As someone who has recently looked at several houses on the market to buy, I can attest there really is an emotional hook that some of this staging provides. These truly are inexpensive or free things (such as putting a bowl of fruit out, playing soothing music, etc.) that can subliminally attract a buyer. The suggestions are tailored to people with all budgets for fixing up before selling. It does not suggest major upgrades but suggests things like repairing broken bathroom tile as opposed to retiling the entire bathroom. Some of these things are no-brainers, but it was helpful reinforcement from what the Realtor said.
There is a section on how to market the home and explains estimated costs. It also explains what happens when the house is in escrow and what needs to be done in a short timeline. It explains how to keep the buyers motivated and calm while still getting what the seller needs out of the deal.
One of the best things about this book is that it repeatedly encourages the seller to put things into perspective. Yes, the idea is to sell the house as quickly as possible and make the most profit, but this book shows the pitfalls about haggling over $100 and how it can make prospective buyers walk away from a deal.
This book doesn't contain any miracle advice and some of the advice is obvious. However, it's an easy read and an inexpensive book that will probably end up helping sellers make more money at selling time. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to understand the real estate process and maximize profit without spending an inordinate amount of time or money.
I am not sure if I trust this guy.......2007-04-17
Here is Ready Set Sold! in one sentence: Make your house look like a model home before you put it on the market. That covers chapters 6 through 12, and is heavily emphasized in all of the other chapters as well.
Of course, making your house look like a model home probably means spending thousands. I know it's going to for me, even for my modest place. Corbett's mantra is that the more you do to make your house a model home, the more money you'll get when you sell it. The amount that you put into fixing the place up, with painting, new furniture if necessary, and a zillion other details large and small, will more than be made up for by the eventual selling price that you can command.
Hmmm...but is this really true? I don't know. I'm in California and everyone I talk to, including realtors, tell me that just about the ONLY thing that will command a higher selling price is a room addition (impossible for my house). Everything else is just wasted money. That doesn't mean you shouldn't clean up clutter and make sure things look nice and spiffy, but spending thousands of dollars on new furniture, cabinetry, and so on is unnecessary.
I'm not sure I buy into the gung-ho "It will cost more up front, but it'll all pay off in the end!" mantra that this book feeds you constantly. Welcome to hear any comments from people (especially in CA) that have actually followed this book to the letter and ended up with verifiable results.
One-Stop Selling.......2007-03-07
This is the ONLY book you'll need to sell a home sucessfully. Period. Corbett's blend of humor and personal stories make for a fun read, and he's got an enormous repertoire of ideas that will help you do exactly what the book promises: sell for the most money!
Great Handbook for Selling Your Home.......2007-03-07
This book is great and an easy read! It takes the mystery out of selling your home by explaining what to do and what to expect step by step from the beginning to the end.
I'm Sold on this book.......2007-03-06
Easy and inexpensive tips from this book can help you sell your home for more money and in less time. There are so many photos that show how to stage your home to make the first few minutes a buyer comes in to your home count!

Book Description
In her latest book, best-selling author of The Not So Big House Sarah Susanka teams up with architectural design writer Marc Vassallo to expand upon the message that has resonated with over a million homeowners and builders across the country: opting for personalized, well-crafted, thoughtfully designed spaces over superfluous square footage results in a home that comforts and nourishes those who live there.
In Inside The Not So Big House, Susanka and Vassallo focus their lens on the tangible and sometimes intangible details that bring an otherwise ordinary home to life. Incorporating such details as dropped ceilings, built-in shelves, pocket doors, window seats, and well-placed alcoves infuses a home with the character of its owners and conveys a uniqueness that's mising in many homes built or remodeled today. From Rhode Island to San Diego, the 23 homes featured here illustrate exceptional attention to detail. Full of inspiring ideas!.......2007-03-08
I have been devouring the pages of ideas in this book. I think I have looked all through it a dozen times, because many of the concepts and ideas seem to improve and become more usable as I think them over. We live in a ca. 1970's "split-ranch" house and this book has me thinking creatively about using the space in our house in ways I haven't done before.
Great Ideas.......2006-11-03
Read the book cover to cover and enjoyed a fresh look at residential design. As an architect myself, it made me rethink some of my own design processes. Bigger isn't always necessarily better!
Less is most definitely more.......2006-03-22
In this astonishing book, which is filled with wonderful ideas, as well as being a beautiful coffee table book, we are granted an inside look at a truly new concept in home design in our age of teardowns and mega-mansions, a concept that smaller can be more satisfying than larger, if properly done. Here we are presented with something seldom viewed these days, how to make a house a home. There is something for every taste herein, and it is even multi-cultural, with oriental viewpoints as well on both furniture and flow of the home. Spend some time with this excellent book to see how every size home can be made more personal and beautiful, no matter what the budget.
Great as always!.......2006-03-20
Sarah books are a staple in my books of design collection. I refer to them frequently. She has a wonderful sense of design as it relates to organization, usefullness, and asthetically pleasing. I wish more designers and architects would use her sensibility and we would not be over run with all the hideous, vapid, mac mansions everywhere. I would reccommend all of her books without hesitation.
Inside the Not So Big House.......2006-03-19
I love this book and read through it often. It's a wonderful coffee table book but also has real concepts you can apply to your own remodel or decorating. It has given us our inspiration for remodeling our family room. Check out her other books as well.

Book Description
For 28 years the world-renowned interior designer Bunny Williams has been involved in a passionate love affair with an18th-century New England manor house that she found in sad repair. From the moment she walked up the driveway and her palms began to perspire, Williams knew she wanted the affair to last forever. In her sumptuous new book, An Affair with a House, the venerable decorator describes in detail how she and her husband, antiques dealer John Rosselli, rescued, nurtured, renovated, and decorated the well-worn house, giving it new life as they restored each room, resurrected the abandoned gardens, and filled this weekend home with family and friends.
Through photographs, anecdotes, how-tos, and recipes, Williams provides a rare inside look at a top decorator's retreat and explains how she approached the joys, pleasures, challenges, obstacles, and day-to-day realities of creating a beautiful, comfortable country home. An Affair with a House provides a wealth of advice on interior decor and such topics as mixing design styles, but it also addresses such practical matters as stocking the pantry and outfitting the linen closet. Beautiful photographs of the house, the gardens, and the property's rustic structures provide an intimate glimpse of the couple's lifestyle and illustrate a way of life we can all appreciate and learn from.

WONDERFUL!.......2007-06-28
First, I fell in love with the cover shot. Then the barn. Then the guest house. And the decorating isn't even my style! But I'm on my third read - every word read and every photo examined. Guess I love the thought of it and wish it were me! Now I don't have the money - and I don't have the time. But I can certainly appreciate her love for this house.
I would give this book six stars, if I could!.......2007-05-15
This is a wonderful book---and the text is as wonderful as the photographs. The chicken house is my hands down favorite part. Bunny's husband's pancakes are great (we've tried the recipe) and the guest barn is totally charming. Oh how I wish I had Bunny's gardeners! I dream of her gardens, but feel like they are out of reach for us. There is a lot to learn from this book--even if you can't accomplish all of this for your own home or property. It's my favorite coffee table book ---and I never tire of looking at it. Congratulations Bunny---this book is a clear winner!!
I wish I could be a house guest!!.......2007-05-13
I read every word and loved it all. Can I live in their amazing barn?!
An Affair with a House.......2007-03-30
I love the title of this book....so fitting for me! Can't get enough ideas and suggestions! Beautiful photographs from beginning to end!!
pretty testament to Bunny Williams wealth and success.......2007-03-08
I found the photographs lovely and the text boring. She does redeem herself at the end with her words about gaining a little wisdom and compassion as she ages and has accumulated about all anyone could house.

One of the most daunting endeavors for any would-be do-it-yourselfer is dealing with the electrical--namely, electrical repairs, improvements, and wiring and rewiring projects. The reason for this is simple: mistakes can cause fires, major disasters and expense, and even death. But anyone can learn about safe and correct wiring in order to complete repairs or add new wiring to an aging and inadequate system. This is the book to show you how, from the basics of how electricity works and simple repairs and projects, all the way to complicated rewiring you might otherwise assume must be done by a professional. Included are the most up-to-date electrical code requirements; guides to evaluating, planning, and installing new electrical circuits; repair advice on switches, receptacles, and fixtures; and a detailed and well-illustrated lighting design section. A total of 288 pages of hundreds of illustrations and photographs and a comprehensive reference index make this an ideal book for the beginner, and an up-to-date refresher course for the professional. --Mark A. Hetts

Excellent Book.......2007-06-07
I consider myself mechanically inclined but have never touched anything to do with electricity before. Well I bought a house a few years ago and it's either learn how to do it, or pay double and hire someone.
Most books always leave me with only 75% confidence to do the job myself but there are always some important parts that are confusing. Not with this book, it is step-by-step with full color detailed photos.
I went to Home Depot and got circuit breakers, receptacles, switches, GFCI's, etc. and they are exactly the same thing that are in the photos.
So far I have completely wired a 250sf addition, outside lights, and run a full 50amp sub panel to my garage with a dedicated 240 volt circuit for my compressor and welder. All from this one book.
Highly recommended

a good basic guide.......2007-05-13
this book has alot of basic information as well as scenarios. you might not use the exact situation they diagram out, but through them you will see most of the situations you will run into, and how to wire it.
Good book for moderately adept do-it-yourselfers.......2007-05-07
This book os relatively comprehensive and explains how to wire various objects in detail. A worth while book to have for any homeowner.

Marc Vassallo's The Barefoot Home should come with a warning label: "This Book May Cause You to Sell, Buy, or Remodel a House within Hours of Reading." Gorgeous photographs fill this book to the brim, and every page that is not covered with photos and mini house plans called "footprints" is full of smart, helpful, inspirational text. Vassallo wants you to read The Barefoot Home as much as he wants to enjoy the stunning layout. He lays out the ground rules in the first few pages in his chapter called "barefoot dreams," in which he asks readers to "Pour yourself a tall glass of something cool, sit back, flip off your shoes, put your feet up, and dream with you eyes wide open." If that doesn't convince you to check out The Barefoot Home, our guest review from the beloved architect, author, and "cultural visionary" Sarah Susanka surely will. --Daphne Durham
Guest Reviewer: Sarah Susanka
Almost 10 years after The Not So Big House came out, it's reassuring to see that houses really are starting to get smaller. Over the past year I've been interviewed time and again for articles describing a growing backlash against the mega-houses that have been built across the country in recent decades.
Houses aren't only getting smaller, they're also becoming less formal, a trend picked up by my good friend and coauthor (of Inside the Not So Big House) Marc Vassallo in his new book, The Barefoot Home. Marc hits the nail on the head when he says that we no longer need formal living and dining rooms--it just doesn't fit the way we live anymore. And we're spending just as much time enjoying the outside of our homes as we are the inside. In a barefoot home, you can feel like you're on vacation 365 days a year, a lifestyle that's much more in tune with the way we REALLY live today--at least when we're not at work.
I was lucky enough to be one of the very first readers to receive a copy of The Barefoot Home and as I leafed through it, I could almost feel the sand between my toes. Marc has assembled and described, in his inimitable style, 20 excellent examples of houses that are both Not So Big in form, and decidedly Not So Formal in function. As Marc recommends in his "barefoot manifesto," it's time to kick off your shoes, open up, embrace the sun, live outside as well as in, and adopt a barefoot state of mind. The lessons these homes have to offer are much needed by all who are disenchanted with "too bigness" in house design; and best of all, they're easy to implement, and often less expensive to boot. Anyone who is a fan of the Not So Big House series will almost certainly enjoy this book as well.
Book Description
As our personal and professional lives become more demanding and hectic, people have reacted with a more casual, relaxed, and open way of living at home. Kitchens are no longer just for cooking but serve as entertainment hubs; barbeques on the grill have replaced formal dinners. As our lives at home have become increasingly informal, the “barefoot living” lifestyle has emerged and there is increased demand to carry this attitude over into home design.
Relaxed, open, filled with light, and intimately connected to the outdoors, barefoot houses make living at home feel like being on vacation 365 days a year. The 24 houses featured in The Barefoot Home reflect today’s barefoot times. From a long, low house on the Kansas prairie to an adobe home in New Mexico and a New England cottage by the sea, these homes capture the essence of barefoot living.
Customer Reviews:
Barefoot -- informal style, for an informal life........2007-05-16
On first glance I agreed with many of the other reviewers: 'the book was slick', 'it was disingenuous', 'sure, if you live in a sunny climate, most, if not all, of the time'.
Then I went back and looked at the book again, and read the opening passage: he does not strive to be disingenuous, he tells us he himself doesn't live in a barefoot home, nor a barefoot neighborhood, but he is trying and the manifesto of the book is to entreat all of us to be more informal in our primary living space -- our homes.
Open the house up as soon as you can, get rid of all the stuff you don't need, make your home as casual as you can, and then enjoy it.
Think informal thoughts, and live in all the spaces available to you: the patio, the deck and never forget how good it feels to have sand between your toes!
He provides blue prints to the homes and he even lists the architects. Enjoy and live well!
Great Book!.......2007-03-26
This book is great for conversation and ideas. I leave mine on the coffee table for periodic inspiration...that of myself..and of others!
Barefoot, if it's summertime.......2007-03-11
I don't exactly get the barefoot concept. If the author had seen these homes in the wintertime, would he still consider them barefoot homes? Barefoot seems far-fetched and contrived in this book.
This book is a nice compilation of casual homes mostly in the country or at the beach. It's similar to other books on getaway homes. Beyond that, I didn't see anything particularly new or inspiring. It almost seems like the author (or Taunton?) was more interested in pushing the barefoot concept than providing new ideas.
Designed for wilder, more remote locations.......2007-02-15
This book is beautiful, the writing lyric and inviting.
But in looking for ideas for building our coastal home, I found that the windows and outdoor living areas were meant for homes in secluded or tree-sheltered locations, not on a city lot as our will be.
I highly recommend this book for those with more remote building sites.
One of the Best.......2007-02-12
This is an excellent house design book. It's a very functional book ,you'll probably examine your house plans in a new light after reading this.
I appreciated the content of the book; excellent pictures, floor plans for every house (you would think every design book would include this, but no)and a range of house sites from coast to coast and urban to country. The author developed his topic (relaxed house) well throughout the book, I found that the text was concise and interesting. Vassallo demonstrated again and again in various contexts his themes for a "barefoot house"-light, open spaces, texture, durable surfaces, great connectivity to the outside, and every inch of space useful and used.
