Although Amazon.com lists this 58 page book as for young adults, young children have appreciated having this book read to them. The title is a good example of the style used by this a child psychologist as he speaks to children and teens. With children and teens or young adults, I suggest reading and discussing it together. There are some pointers for older adults as well.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Stuff is Hot Stuff.......2005-11-23

What a wonderful book. I read the reviews here before purchasing and my only reservation was with the "sarcastic" humor in the book. Actually, it is the humor that makes this book work. It was the bait that got my son hooked on the book.

I bought this for my 8 year-old son. He started to read it immediately. The book is a book and a workbook where you do some introspection. When he saw there were places to write down his responses, he ran and got a pencil. The first day he (we) spent nearly an hour reading and answering questions before we told him he needed to put it down and go to bed.

The book does a good job of validating the feelings that a child (actually all of us) has and gives great ways to deal with those responses. If you have ever encouraged your child to say "gooz fah bah" (from Anger Management the movie), then this is the book for you.

3 out of 5 stars I Wanted To Like This More, But...........2004-09-01

This book was difficult to use with elementary age children, especially those who are K-4th grade. Some of the sarchastic humor and tongue-in-cheek humor was very tough for younger children and/or kids with lower intellectual functioning. When I tried to use this several times with kids; the concepts did not engage them and seemed to go above their heads. I would also like this book more if it was sectioned off in short activities and lessons.
Although I do not have any teenage clients at this time; I imagine that this book would work very well with adolescents. I will continue to try and use this book, however. It may just be my current caseload that is not responding....

3 out of 5 stars Needs some modifications!.......2004-07-13

I bought this book for two preteen boys I provide skill/therapy sessions with. It was hard for them to understand some of the sarcastic humor in the book - however if this had been left out it would have been a great book for them. Ideal for a parent, or professional to spark conversation with children.

Book Description

Cleary, North Carolina, is a sleepy mountain town -- the kind of place where criminal activity is usually limited to parking violations. Not so, lately. Four women have disappeared from Cleary over the past two years. And there's always a blue ribbon left near the spot where each of the women was last seen. There are no bodies, no other clues, and no suspicion as to who their abductor might be. And now, another woman has disappeared without a trace.

It is to this backdrop that Lilly Martin returns to close the sale of her mountain cabin, marking the end of her turbulent eight-year marriage to Dutch Burton, Cleary's chief of police. Dutch's reluctance to let her go isn't Lilly's only obstacle. As she's trying to outrun a snowstorm, her car skids on the icy road and strikes a man. She recognizes the injured man as Ben Tierney, whom she'd met the previous summer. They're forced to wait out the storm in the cabin, but as the hours of their confinement mount, Lilly begins to wonder if the greatest danger to her safety isn't the blizzard outside, but the mysterious man right beside her. Is Ben Tierney the feared abductor? Or is he who he claims to be...her rescuer from harm and from the tragedy that haunts her?

5 out of 5 stars Quick Read!.......2007-06-22

This story takes place over about 48 hours. I couldn't put it down! Lots of twists and turns to the story that kept me reading well into the night. This is the first Sandra Brown book I've read. I can't wait to read more of her work!

5 out of 5 stars Loved it.......2007-06-21

Listen to a lot of audiobooks. This was the first Sandra Brown novel. Have since also heard "The Alibi." I thought "Chill Factor" was excellent. Great characters, riveting suspense.....just terrific from beginning to end. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Just when you thought you had it figured out........2007-05-21

This is the first Sandra Brown book i've read. and it was AWESOME!!! I loved it...At the beginning you thought you knew who killed these women..but later on in the book..it sounded like all of them had a part in it. It was such a twisted well thought out book. I would recommend it to anyone!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Another Romantic Suspense Winner.......2007-05-14

Sandra Brown does it again! A tightly-paced romantic supsense story, CHILL FACTOR is the genre at its best. With suspects out the wazoo, you'll have a hard time figuring out who the bad guy really is--while you're watching the romance unfold between the hero and heroine.

I loved the fact that the very first chapter starts out with circumstantial evidence that will have you doubting Ben Tierney throughout the whole story. Is he the good guy, or just a really good con artist? The fact that the evidence continues to mount through each chapter leaves you feeling as mixed-up as the heroine of the story seems to be.

Sandra Brown has definitely penned a CHILLING winner--you don't want to miss this book!

4 out of 5 stars Who is the "Blue" Man? .......2007-03-17

Lilly and her former husband Dutch Burton had sold their cabin at the beginning of the story and the two were getting ready to part ways. Too many bad things had happened in the past with their daughter Amy's death, and Dutch's abusive behavior toward Lilly.

A huge snowstorm was on the way as Lilly was driving along the road, and hit a man that was literally standing right in front of her. The man was Ben Tierney, the one everyone was suspecting of the murders of several women in the area. Every time a murder occured in Cleary, a blue ribbon was placed by the site by the killer. Ben Tierney was the prime suspect as he was a frequent traveler, and when the police investigated his cabin, they found incriminating evidence.

Lilly and Tierney had no choice but to go back to the cabin together. So with great pain and effort Lilly takes him back to the cabin with Tierney being at least able to half-walk, and the two were stuck until the snowstorm was over-which would be several days. When Lilly catches word that they are looking for Tierney, as a murder-suspect, she becomes fearful for her life until she has an asthma attack, and Ben is the one that saves her life. So now Lilly isn't sure what to make of him.

Tierney isn't the only suspect in the women's deaths. There is the Hamer family, of whom there is a teenaged boy Scott Hamer, who is a suspect in the death of his girlfriend, and possibly the others. His father Wes Hamer, is coach at school as well as the former police chief in Cleary. He is very hard-nosed with his son and things happen that make you wonder if Wes is actually the real killer here.

The story has many twists and turns. The real killer is someone whom you least suspect it to be. The ending is a surprise.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars good for some more advanced students, but even then..........2004-03-30

The first part of the book explains some power yoga basics (quite scientific), the main part gides you through the different poses.

Each pose is displayed on 2 pages - one big photo on the left side and the series of small photos on the right side with a very brief explanation. Photos are black and white.

What I really miss in the book are a different variations for the poses! What to do when you have certain problem - how to make the pose easier...and when you are advanced - how to make it more dificult, or just have some variations in your training - this information is simply missing and therefore only 3 stars!

5 out of 5 stars the truth about yoga.......2002-10-03

in this book you will find the truth about yoga - you may have been unsure in the past but here you will find what it is that yoga is all about
Godfrey Devereux is a true guru of the 21st century. Following in an age long tradition Godfrey distills the wisdom of ages in a form that is available to everyone. No more ivory towers or ashrams in the sky - this is Yoga for the modern age - cutting edge and accessible.

5 out of 5 stars Namaste.......2002-06-23

I am very critical of many yoga books out there, but this one won me over. If you are in search of a book to get you started with your home yoga practice, or want further explanation of what you are doing in class, get this book. You can actually use it beside you while you practice as the workouts are mapped out with tiny pictures and a pose number so you can easily get to the expanded reference page.
I found Godfrey Devereux's writing on this art/science to be in depth without going into the esoteric. I also like how he placed an asana glossary at the end according to their Sanskrit name.

5 out of 5 stars It's got it ALL.......1999-03-07

I just purchased this book along with Power Yoga by B. Birch ... As good as Birch's book is, THIS one is better! The pictures are a good size and VERY clear, and the book provides a wonderful set of series at the end to accommodate various levels of competence and also to address those moments when there just isn't quite enough time to get in a complete series. I'm sure you'll love it.

4 out of 5 stars Uber creepy!.......2007-04-26

Night chills gave me NIGHTMARES and I'm not joking. I read this book some 20 or more years after it was written and I found it strikingly relevant to the times even then. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and don't honestly spend a lot of my day pondering whether or not I should wear a tin foil hat to block the government's secret satellites from shooting x-rays into my skull. But I do often think of the mind control theories put forth in this book and about how plausible it was presented even amid the back drop of such obvious fiction.

The thing about Koontz is that he weaves characters that draw you in. Once you're sucked into their life, once you take them into your heart, you care about what happens to them... so when bad things start to happen to the characters in this book, well, you care.

Koontz is positively masterful and this book is a prime example!

4 out of 5 stars Effective, But this is Koontz' Most Graphic Book.......2007-01-20

I'm a big fan of Dean Koontz, and have read nearly all of his fifty or so novels. NIGHT CHILLS is one of Koontz's earliest books, written in the mid-1970s. It's a suspenseful read about mind control, and how a person with the power to control minds can abuse that power.

I enjoyed this novel, but it's a rather unique novel by Koontz standards. The mood of this book is dark, and there are a number of sexually explicit scenes. As time went by, Koontz toned down the sexuality of his books considerably. But this early novel has some rape scenes that are pretty unpleasant, and some readers may be turned off by that. As another reader pointed out, this is Koontz's edgiest novel, and a few libraries even banned it back in the 1970s and 1980s.

Still, this novel is great if you like hard-core horror, and it has a brutal effectiveness that really affected me. This is definitely one of Koontz's better novels, but it is not for the squeamish. If you like Richard Laymon, you will probably want to give this one a try.

If you enjoyed NIGHT CHILLS, you may want to read Koontz's FALSE MEMORY, a superior novel which is essentially a reworking of the same plot.

3 out of 5 stars Night Chills.......2007-01-12

ISBN 0425098648 - Before the story begins, Koontz gives a little history of mind control and subliminal advertising. This is, one assumes, to give greater credence to the tale he spins and, to a degree, it succeeds. At the very least, I started the book willing to believe that the technology in it was real or possible.

Paul and Annie Annendale had vacationed in Black River every summer with their two children, hoping to instill in them love and respect for nature. They'd met and befriended Sam Edison, the owner of the general store, years ago and developed the habit of spending a night with him before heading into the woods to camp. After Annie's death, their daughter Rya convinced Paul that they should continue the tradition and soon Paul had met and fallen in love with Sam's daughter Jenny, who moved home after her marriage fell apart. This summer would be no different - or so they thought. Arriving at the tail-end of a town-wide flu epidemic, they begin to enjoy their vacation in the small mill town.

What they don't know is that their timing couldn't be better - or worse. Ogden Salsbury, a scientist at a private company owned by millionaire H Leonard Dawson, has been working on government research into subliminal advertising and has made a huge discovery. Taking it to Dawson, who brings in General Klinger, he convinces both men that they can have unimaginable power. Dawson is a religious fanatic who would like to bring the world to Jesus, Klinger is a military man who wants power for power's sake and Salsbury is a twisted man who wants to control a world that has mistreated and disrespected him for his whole life. After two years, Salsbury is testing the program in Black River. The two groups of people come together in this small town and the fight for control of the minds of the citizens of Black River is on.

A quick read, and kind of average. The graphic sex scenes are a little over the top, maybe only because they are almost all sexually perverted (rape, rape of a woman in front of her husband and son, beating and raping a woman with a gun...). The idea might have been to make the reader horrifed by Salsbury, but somehow I ended up horrified by Koontz. The ending is too simplistic, considering the scope of the mind control. The best part of the book, if you're interested in subliminal messages in the real world, might be the References listed in the back, citing about 20 books and magazine articles.

2 out of 5 stars Nothing to write home about.......2006-07-13

In a lot of ways, this is a typical Koontz novel, including both the good and bad characteristics of his work. For the good, the descriptions given for even the most mundane of events is written with the same detail as the more important ones. Some people may not like this style and believe that it is too wordy, but for me, it makes the every line worth reading. As for the bad, one thing that seems very prevalent in a lot of Koontz novels is the inclusion of very detailed sexual scenes to the point of perversion. Granted, this may be for the sake of the story, but the detail that goes into that seems to be even more involved than his typical details. It gets to the point where it is almost like reading a pornography instead of a suspense novel. What happened the days where a simple innuendo would be enough to explain what was really taking place? I had hoped that this being one of his earlier stories would mean that he would have been a little more reserved on this, but as it turns out, this is his worst one that I have read. Another trademark of his stories is how he always makes the female lead character some kind of military tactician despite having no logical reason for it. This book is no exception and as expected, and without giving too much away, she somehow manages to outsmart a military officer with war experience to the point of making him look like a blithering idiot. Guess it was his own fault for taking on a Koontz girl. So if you take those common concepts and throw in a super special little kid that seems far brighter and more mature than any one I have ever met, you have the makings of the typical Koontz book. Most of the times this is at least partly offset by the overall story, which tends to be very intriguing and really keeps you interested. This time however, the story seems slow and never really takes advantage of what seems like a good plot. It sort of putters along in a pretty predictable manner and keeps that pace all the way too the end.

5 out of 5 stars Beware The Dangers Of Subliminal Advertising!!!.......2005-10-10

This is a very good early book written by Dean R.Koontz about the potential dangers of Subliminal Advertising and Mind Control. The inhabitants of a small Rural Town become brainwashed by Government Agents and this Geek Scientist as a "Test Case" for future developement. What follows is very disturbing and one has to wonder if this could ever become a Reality.I prefer Mr. Koont'z earlier works personally and I think very highly of this book which is not only entertaining but Thought Provoking which is why I give it 5 stars. It seems that the "Mad Scientist" so often portrayed in 1950's Horror/Science Fiction is still alive and well today .

5 out of 5 stars Chill Factor is Cool!.......2007-02-14

I love the Weather Warden series, and would not have missed any part of the story in all 5 books.

3 out of 5 stars I'm feeling downright frigid.......2007-01-01

The first two books were good, but this book was kind of boring. The heroine is becoming smug and unlikable (like the last season of Friends if you know what I mean).

I feel like the dialogue is there just so she can say her zingy one liners. Which are becoming less zingy and more obvious with each page.

This book reminded me of a Katie Mcalister book. Lots of people like her, but I think she's irritating and overly pleased with herself. Similarly, both authors seem to think that just because they are amused, everyone else will be too. I think her jokes need more quality control. Personally, I would prefer it if authors didn't make a joke unless it's better than 'lightly amusing'.

I didn't connect with this book. Characters made weird decisions that were only for the purpose of furthering the plot. By the middle of this book I was skimming pages and although I own the next one, I think it will take me several months to read it.

Read Melusine by Sarah Monette instead. Or Anne Bishop (dark jewels trilogy) or Kim Harrison.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant fun - this series just gets better and better.......2006-06-05

This third instalment of Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series is a brilliant continuation of her story. Joanna Baldwin has been a human Weather Warden, a Djinn, and she's now back to being human again and, once again, doing her best, despite blundering around not knowing what's going on, to save the world.

What's been really interesting about the way Rachel Caine is building these stories is that it's not just the same or similar story rehashed each time, but she's introducing new elements with each book. In book 2 we had the Ifrit; now in Book 3 we are introduced to a whole new secret society working against the Weather Wardens. Once again Joanne's past catches up with her and influences the situations in which she finds herself - old enemies come back to haunt her.

Rachel Caine has very effectively built the love affair between Joanne and David in these three books. They are learning to trust each other, and although the time they actually spend together in this book is very limited, you get a real sense of closeness between them. Of course Joanne's other potential beaux are still out there - Lewis, Paul, even perhaps Jonathan... but it's nice to read, for once, of a sassy, modern woman being consistent and committed to her man. Even if he isn't a man but a Djinn.

Like book 2, this one ended with a definite idea of where the next book is going to go. All is not well in Joanne's world and she evidently has a lot of work to do in book 4 to rescue David from the fix he's found himself in. However, these books probably do work OK as standalone books, although I think this one might have been a little confusing if you hadn't read the previous two.

I love the way that Rachel Caine portrays her heroine - she's just so much fun. Long may she continue writing!

5 out of 5 stars Great fun -- mediocre flashbacks.......2006-04-07

The third book in Rachel Caine's series is just as fun as the first two. Picking up where the previous book left off, Joanne is headed for Las Vegas to retrieve the djinn Jonathan and to stop a teenage kid from destroying the city. Complicating matters, however, is that the Weather Wardens start telling her how to do her job, and then she runs into a shadowy group called the Ma'at who give her a "join us or die" ultimatum.

The book was a blast to read, and it contained some good twists I didn't see coming. Unfortunately, the flashbacks really bring the story to a halt. Not nearly as frequent as they were in the first book ("Ill Wind"), these flashbacks have many of the same problems: they slow down the movement of the main story, at their core they're really only background material, and they never made me concerned about Joanne's safety -- because they already happened! Obviously she lived through whatever happened back then so no matter how often she got thrown into a trunk or had her head shoved under water (frequently, BTW), I still knew she'd live through it.

Fortunately, the flashbacks never became so obtrusive that I put the book down or I would have given this book four stars instead of five, but the information could have presented in a more compelling way for the reader.

Overall, however, this book is great fun. Tolerate the flashbacks because they contain a few pieces of information you need to know, but the main storyline rocks.

3 out of 5 stars Chill Factor.......2006-01-15

Joanne is human again, but that's little comfort. She and her Djinn, David, are on the run from the Wardens, the Djinn, and a crazy kid who hates her and has a powerful Djinn of his own. David is her only consolation, until the Wardens take him away, intending to trade him for the more powerful Jonathan. Then, someone with an older grudge kidnaps Joanne, and she finds herself in the middle of a deadly game where she does not know the rules, much less who to trust. Not only her life, but the entire world hangs in the balance.

**** The action never lets up in this third entry into an exciting series. Joanne is quirky and brutally honest. The tragedy and humor mix very well in these books, making them seem true to life, albeit filled with fantasy. ****

Book Description

Charles Addams was renowned for his depictions of love (or lack thereof) in his cartoons. The passion of Morticia and Gomez Addams, the lonely desires of Fester, the numerous grim and ghastly fights between husband and wife -- all found their way into Addams's signature drawings.

Addams's concept of love was quite a bit different from the traditional idea of romance. Forget roses and chocolate, Addams will show you how to woo a mermaid or celebrate an anniversary on a desert island. Or how to keep your husband on a leash -- literally. Learn what to do when your prince stays a frog, even after you've kissed him.

Compiled from Addams's personal archive, many of these cartoons are previously unpublished gems, while others are Addams classics. The cartoons in Chas Addams Happily Ever After run the gamut from ecstatic love to disappointed affection to murderous obsession and demonstrate that love really does hurt.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!!.......2006-07-08

I've used this book with both elementary and middle school students for years and it's a great tool for getting through to kids with anger problems. It has spaces for students to record their own responses and they like being able to do that. I've also noticed that students who normally "wouldn't be caught dead" reading a book seem to enjoy this book. The author uses humor throughout the book in an apparent to win over those kids. It works!

5 out of 5 stars Very, very helpful.......2005-12-29

My daughter (age 11) had been having some severe difficulties with anger so I decided to buy this book. Wow! She has made huge progress after we read this book by Jerry Wilde. It's filled with great insights and exercises we completed together. I can't say enough nice things about this book.

1 out of 5 stars Not a good book.......2005-10-10

this book is totally innappropriate for elementary children. It seems to only address anger issues, not stress issues. Not every child gets angry when they are stressed. Some are sad, nervous, or scared. A waste of my money. It is a workbook for a middle school or high school student to do on their own.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book for kids with anger problems!.......2004-08-18

If you like Dr. Wilde's book "Hot Stuff to Help Kids Chill Out," you'll love this book. I actually think this one might even be better than the first one because it contains information about stress management for children and adolescents. This book contains many helpful activities that demonstrate to kids that they have the ability to change their thoughts and change their feelings. This is an excellent book for parents and therapists alike!

4 out of 5 stars Wind Chill Factor.......2007-04-28

I'm only two chapters into this novel and already enjoying the author's vocabulary, command of the English language and powers of description. Those who're vocabulary challenged won't like it that much. What can I tell ya'? I also enjoy reading Shakespeare. I know not where this plot is going, except for an early hint of Nazi Germany. I'm ready to be entertained.

5 out of 5 stars Electrifying story of a complex family.......2007-04-14

I am amazed and shocked at the vitriol and venom expressed against Gifford in some of these reviews! It's a sign that Gifford is a challenging writer.

It also surprised me, in 1972, that this book was never made into a movie. "Soon to be a major motion picture" said the cover. It never happened.

To the naysaying and nitpicking reviewers, I say, "Grow up." Gifford has captured something ugly and important here in this book. I used to audit county courts and county governments. Later I worked for a chief financial officer who lied under oath to a congressional committee and was fired by the organization's board. I've seen a lot of ruthless, petty, dishonest people.

And this book is a masterpiece in collecting such personalities. It ranks with Robert Towne's immortal screenplay for "Chinatown." And it is almost a screenplay itself. The main character is a literate but down-on-his-luck divorced movie buff, John Cooper, who makes innumerable references to classic motion pictures. He becomes a friend of the local police chief, a boy wonder who got away from the big city force by marrying a rich woman, like Dashell Hammit's Nick Charles.

The tale boomerangs through three continents. These things happen. There are villians like this out there.

If you like this book, you will also like the sequel, "The First Sacrifice" and a triumphant nail-biter about counterfeiting, "The Man from Lisbon," which I think is Gifford's best book ever.

4 out of 5 stars Dont Cry for me Minnesota.......2002-02-19

1972: Drat! We have Nixon AND resurgent Nazi sleeper cells here and around the globe? John Cooper is recently divorced and eking out an AA-assisted writer's existence in Cambridge, MA when he receives a cryptic telegram from his elder brother, who is inexplicably in Buenos Aires:

"URGENT YOU MEET ME COOPER'S FALLS 20 JANUARY. DROP EVERYTHING. FAMILY TREE NEEDS ATTENTION. CHEERS OLD BOY. CYRIL."

So home to the family namesake Cooper's Falls, Mn goes John Cooper. This Ludlum-esque page-turner had me as soon as John Cooper's Lincoln swung northward in Chicago and headed on the long ago familiar Illinois Tollroad trip towards home in Minnesota - with a stop at "one of the Fred Harvey emporiums." Almost run off the road near Madison in a blizzard, John goes home to revisit old family secrets. Then round and round the globe he goes, where it stops only author Thomas Gifford knows. I was up all night following the intrigue!

1 out of 5 stars And a very dull, one star at that.......2000-08-18

This is a dreadful book. It isn't even because it covers the same old, neo-Nazi (and old-Nazi for that matter) plots put to much better use by other authors. It is the author's choice of words. No one uses the stilted language of either the author in his narrative or of the dialogue between characters. The language makes this novel tedious reading. Making matters worse is the usual nonsense of an everyday person surviving attacks by professional killers and even dispatching some of them with little trouble. Gifford is clearly no Ludlum, and his heroes are no more likeable than his villians.

Actually, Gifford wrote a sequel to this book a number of years later. He brought back Cooper and his long lost sister, etal. Trying to be fair and allowing for the fact that "The Wind Chill Factor" was an early novel, I started reading it. Unbelievably, it was worse than the original. Even though I make it a practice to finish any book I start, I gave up after the first 100 pages.

4 out of 5 stars Complex and involving.......1999-09-22

The Wind Chill Factor isn't necessarily an easy book to read. The plot is complex and if you don't keep up with the different twists, it would be easy to get lost in the details. However, this is absolutely one of the most richly written books I've ever read. The sensations the lead character experience become the reader's sensations; his thoughts, your thoughts. Once you commit your energy to the story, you'll be hard pressed to put the book down until you are finished.

5 out of 5 stars cute book.......2007-01-05

I bought this for my 12 year old niece. I honestly didn't know what to rate it because I didn't read through it extensively, but it did have lots of cute patterns. I noticed that there was a section too for shorter projects, great for long trips, etc. There was also a section about starting your own knitting club.

5 out of 5 stars THE intro knitting book to own!.......2007-01-04

I teach a lot of kids and adults to knit and this is the first book I have found that has it all: clear, accurate how-to information; patterns for things you will actually WEAR after you knit them; well-designed format which makes the book easy to navigate. My favorite section is a list of the top 10 most common knitting mistakes and how to repair them. The only criticism I have of this book is the title. I recommend this book for every novice knitter, from eight years of age on up.

4 out of 5 stars Great Basics.......2006-11-09

I liked this book, out of a lot of beginning knitting books, because it shows guys as well as girls knitting. And the hat patterns are the best. Simple, clear instructions, and directions on how to substitute yarns. I agree with the earlier poster about the lack of extended sizing but I don't think that the sweaters are the strength of this book - it's the hats and scarves!

5 out of 5 stars One Of the Best!.......2006-06-20

I love this book! Unlike all the other knitting books I've read, this one doesn't claim to be easy, it actally is! I've never made a hat before because it's been too intimadating, but this book really simplafies all things. I believe it's good for beginers, but might be a little boaring for kniters who have been knitting for a long time.

5 out of 5 stars You don't have to be a teen..........2006-02-17

This book is Great! It is easy to read and understand. It has some simple but trendy patterns, too. All the basics of knitting wrapped up in easy to use instructions. You don't have to be a teen to use it. I bought it for my granddaughter but am using myself, too.
