Pleasant Surprise.......2007-06-18
I read one of Ms. Miller's McKettrick books last year and found it ok. I picked up "The Man from Stone Creek" a couple of weeks ago, in the need for a good book on a long weekend (and I love historical Western romances) but couldn't find anything in the bookstore that really caught my eye. This book is a definite winner. The build up to the main conflict and the character development are great, including the conflict that builds between the main characters. I can't wait to read the sequel to this one!!
LLM is one of the best around!.......2007-05-23
I'm never dissapointed when Linda Lael Miller's name is on the cover. Excellent book!
The Man From Snowy River.......2006-11-25
I am a recent fan of Linda Lael Miller and I really enjoy her books because she has a way with making her characters alive and interesting. The Man From Snowy River is about an under cover G-Man who is poseing as a school teacher of all things and the female lead is a shop owner with a young brother to support and of course they clash over the brother who the teacher feels is spoiled by his sister, you then have the bad guys who the G-man is out to get, i will not get into the nitty gritty of the story as it would spoil it for the readers but in a nutshell, it is a great story, the characters are well done and it will leave you with a smile on your face.
ROMANCE AND SKULLDUGGERY WITH A WESTERN FLAVOR.......2006-08-29
With an impressive number of audio book titles to his credit stage actor Buck Schirner has established himself as a first rate narrator. His reading of the story of Ranger Sam O'Ballivan is arresting (no pun intended) and vital as he effectively captures Sam's first impression of Haven, Arizona, as well his gradually growing attraction to postmistress Maddie Chancelor.
Sam arrives in the border town of Haven in search of a rough gang of thieves who have been wrecking havoc throughout the surrounding territory. He comes disguised as a school teacher whose first order of business is to straighten out the ranchers' undisciplined children who have been creating a little havoc of their own. One of the most unruly young ones is Terran, Maddie's younger brother.
The self-sufficient Ranger is in for a surprise when he meets Maddie, a very pretty and proper young woman who has a temper and toughness all her own. She doesn't take kindly to his comments about her brother, yet finds the newcomer strangely appealing.
Before long Sam becomes aware of a planned train robbery and pulls out all the stops to capture the brigands before they make off with a load of Mexican gold. The surprise is in who the robbers turn out to be.
For those who like romance and skullduggery served with a Western flavor, this one's for you!

Beautifully told story.......2006-07-27
I've read many books by this author. The last two books have been my favorites. The Man From Stone Creek is a western story that's beautifully told. You can picture the Arizona setting. Maddie is strong and vulnerable at the same time. Sam is everything you want in a hero. He's tender and caring, but he's all man. I could not put the book down. Very much worth the hardcover price, excellent read.

Book Description
During the evening hours of March 13, 1997, thousands of Arizona residents witnessed a mile-long, v-shaped formation of lights flying in the skies overhead. The UFO sightings garnered headline news, catching the attention of both USA Today and the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. One person, however, was not surprised by the appearance of the lights. Dr. Lynne Kitei was simply grateful that a phenomenon she'd been witnessing--and documenting--for months was being validated by the experience of thousands of people statewide. After the incident, Dr. Kitei preferred to stay in the background, anonymously feeding information and video clips to the many news organizations who wanted in on the story. Now, for the first time, Dr. Kitei comes forward to tell her own story. "The Phoenix Lights" is an exhaustively researched look at the phenomenon, including dozens of astonishing photographs and Kitei's own take on the wider implications of this remarkable event.
Customer Reviews:
A MUST READ.......2006-02-22
Whether or not you are a believer in life beyond Earth, this book makes a substantial case that we are being visited by other intelligences - one that is a relief and comfort for those of us who have experienced an UP [Unexplained Phenomenon]. The author, who is a noted physician, educator and experiencer, shares her own journey of discovery, while helping the reader discover that we're not alone - and probably never have been. This book is a joy to read, as well as an intriguing guide, particularly for those searching for answers.
While I was searching, I happened on www.thephoenixlights.net and found the color photographs and footage on the site even more compelling than the black and whites illustrated in the book.
But make no mistake, this important story is a must read for young and old alike.
Excellent--a recommendation.......2005-10-03
This is a fine book and there's no disputing the sincerity of the author or her commitment to the truth. I suggest, though, that individuals interested in this event(s) also examine other books and look at additional items, like the Peter Jennings special, to get a sense of the odd ebb and flow of information on this subject. That program--the segment on the Phoenix Lights in particular--deserves some analysis; it was structured rather interestingly. Find a sharp friend with experience in advertising, psychology, or marketing to watch it with you.
People clearly saw something unusual that night (and at other times) and it certainly seemed like the unusual phenomenon went out of its way, so to say, to be seen. That may be the most important element--it was designed to be seen and to be discussed. Plenty of people were out comet-watching; an audience was guaranteed. (Curiously, a lot can go on in the sky right over the heads of urban populations and no one will see a thing--few actually look up. I've seen crowds in broad daylight not see the Goodyear Blimp pass right over their heads--if they couldn't hear it--and other things). Strange isolated lights alone will seldom attract the eye but patterns of lights almost always will. That can be done with lights attached to some rigid structure, lights in coordinated and controlled formation, and lights simply dropped in a rough pattern. It would seem that all three phenomenon--all the possible permutations--happened. Hm.
Again, all media information on the Phoenix Lights is useful as it helps to sort the wheat from the chaff. Oh, for the curious I strongly recommend you look at other titles from Hampton Roads Publishing Company that are not obviously flaky and New Age.
[If you ask me, there was nothing ET about anything that happened that night, but a lot of people absolutely did see something huge and extraordinary. Now, what're the biggest danged things that ever sailed the skies?]
Kudos to Dr. Kitei.......2005-09-24
Similar worldwide incidents, interdimensional and time travel, Native American connection, sentient beings billions of years ahead of us...these are but a pin point of the riveting topics Dr. Lynne Kitei touches on in her terrific book.
The Doctor has done an excellent job in putting everything together. She has also done an excellent job of getting the word out, not only in her book, but in a brilliant Documentary as well. Very impressive work.
What is astounding is that she remained quiet for so long. Her tenacity, perseverance and commitment gives one hope that significant information will be forthcoming from others of knowledge and integrity concerning what has, is and will be occurring to our planet in the days to come.
So, Whatever Did Happen to Nathan Jr.?.......2005-09-18
From Raising Arizona to ... this?
Actually, I was raised with the good advice that "if you don't have anything nice to say about someone or something then don't say anything at all" - advice which I must admit I haven't followed with all that much regularity.
But in the case of Dr. Kitei's ... memoir, I will try to make an exception.
Currently, there are two books dealing with the fascinating events known as the Phoenix lights. Neither of them satisfactorily document this series of UFO sightings with sufficient detail or descriptive rigor. However, Mr. Hamilton's The Phoenix Lights Mystery is the superior effort and the only one worth reading.
I say this without any animosity towards Lynne Kitei. Dr. Kitei certainly put a lot of herself into the writing of this book. Unfortunately, way too much to make it interesting for a reader who is primarily curious about discovering whatever it was that did happen in and around Phoenix.
Important and informative book proving that we are NOT alone in the Universe!.......2005-08-23
With all due respect, Peter Jennings' recent UFO special only continued the media's incessant and blatant debunking and confusion about a very important and real issue - that we are NOT alone in the Universe. The Phoenix Lights segment was very poorly covered, I must say. I wondered why Dr. Kitei - with her excellent research and photographic records - wasn't interviewed in that special. After all, she wrote `the book'.
But this review is not about Jennings or the media, it is about an intriguing read that delves into the reality of the subject of unexplained phenomena more succinctly and honestly than any I have examined throughout my 20 plus years of searching. You learn that for many years the dedicated Doctor Kitei pushed aside her successful and respected medical practice to pursue answers to something most of us would not even begin to attempt. The extraordinary unexplained Arizona mass sighting and the realization that these anomalous events were occurring worldwide, was only the beginning of Kitei's trek into "wonderland". She plainly admits that the Phoenix Lights event pulled her into this strange world of the unknown, but as a scientist and skeptic she was determined to get to the bottom of the mystery. As the book progresses she introduces the reader to other "unearthly" possibilities besides ETs, one that Quantum Physics is readily supporting these days - that these strange incidents just might be interdimensional, as well as interplanetary. This is clearly a new take on the age old question of how other intelligences `could' be visiting us that is not only enlightening, but opens up realms of possibilities.
Some people just don't get it...or don't want to. The reality that we ARE being visited by other intelligent life is unfortunately not something we have been privy to in our culture, but something that Kitei gracefully introduces so others can learn and grow at their own pace. Perhaps one day we will all take off the blinders, admit that we are a primitive and egocentric species and move forward to embrace the potentials that abound in the Universe. That's what this book and I dare hope our future is about.

The finest Grand Canyon book at the lowest price...........2007-02-15
This book is so awesome, and of such high quality, that its Amazon price seems surreal...I have two copies and am ordering a third, for posterity or whatever.
Intensely beautiful photographic prints, at the very leading edge of Canyon photos....almost beyond description!
If you buy one copy of this book, you'll then want another for a gift, and another for your own collection.....etc.
off the charts superb stunning startling good heavens.......2006-11-03
Yes, you would expect truly astounding photography here, and you get exactly that, in lots of different flavors too, but the stories are deft and revealing -- far more than in a book of photos alone of a place that you couldn't take a bad photo if you tried. Trimble himself is a master craftsman with the camera, but his service here is to gather some really remarkable work and voices into a tome that anyone who has gaped and prayed there will want to paw through before you get major brownie points for giving it to someone else. Terrific work.
Review by Jennifer Owings Dewey, author/illustrator.......2006-09-28
Lasting Light is a treasure, a compilation of photographs taken of the Crand Ganyon over a broad stretch of time. The viewer/reader may gain a sense of history, passing from the old to the new. The book is an experience in images of the vast wonder of the Canyon and the smallest, most discreet detail. Because the text is direct and not-technical, anyone interested in what is grand and lit by extraordinary light, the Grand Canyon itself, will find this work a delight.
A superb choice as a Memorial Fund acquisition for any library system.......2006-07-10
Lasting Light: 125 Years Of Grand Canyon Photography by award-winning author and photographer Stephen Trimble is a visual celebration and documentation of the beauty and grandeur of one of the most photographed subjects on earth -- the Grand Canyon. Comprised of the best of 125 years of great photographs beginning with the pioneering glass plate negatives of the 19th century to the digital images of the 21st century, Lasting Light produces spectacular visuals enhanced with an accompanying text of fascinating details regarding the advances of photography, stories of various individual photographers, and the relationship between the photographers and the unique American icon that is the Grand Canyon. As a coffetable art book, Lasting Light is a simply wonderful contribution to any personal, academic, or community library photography reference collection and would make a superb choice as a Memorial Fund acquisition for any library system.

Another Winner!.......2007-06-03
This book is wonderful. I easily fall into that place where I imagine myself there with them. Very few authors write well enough to let their readers experience that.
I wish I could think of the words to sing this book's praises properly.
If you read These Is My Words then don't miss out on Sarah's Quilt.
My friend, Sarah.......2007-05-10
If Sarah Prine were real, she and I would be friends, most particularly because of her love of books. I loved "These Is My Words". "Sarah's Quilt" doesn't grab me with the creative edge, but Sarah makes a believable central character; smart, gritty, determined, vulnerable and, eventually, humble. Turner's writing style is easy to read and she keeps you interested in the constant flow of adventures and calamities that befall our heroine. (Although, for some reason the print in this book is very small and that bothered me.) The characters around Sarah are strong and stand up well. I was surprised, however, that Sarah didn't prevent Rudolfo from running for governor knowing what she did about him and having such high moral standards for herself. Nevertheless, her natural generosity of spirit is so engaging, she is likeable in so many ways, and is truly a pioneer of extraordinary ability.
disappointed.......2007-05-07
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so I bought this one. But I was highly disappointed and couldn't get into it. The writing style was completely different. Granted, the character has aged 20 years, so perhaps that is literarily acceptable, but I didn't relate to it as well and missed the character I had grown to love in the first book. It also was less like a diary, lacked voice, and didn't suck me in.
Simply Superb.......2007-04-17
I loved this book. If you like historical fiction, especially about the West, buy this book. The thoughts and actions of Sarah as a woman and a mother, while perfectly fitted to 1906, are still so relevent today. All of the characters are well developed and believable. The descriptions of Arizona, the climate, and the land are excellent. Excellent writing all around.
This is one of those books that you don't want to end. I have not read These is My Words and am anxiously looking forward to it so I can spend more time with Sarah.
Terrific Read.......2007-04-10
Enlightning while being entertaining. An exceptional look at extroardinary women during most difficult times.

Good for Leigh Greenwood, missing a layer..........2007-01-22
Trinity Smith has come to Arizona to fulfill his duties as a deputy, and that includes bringing Victoria Davidge to serve her sentence. She is accused of killing her husband.
Victoria lives on her uncle's ranch protected by her uncle and his foreman, Buc. They had broken into the jail in Texas and brought her to live at the ranch to keep her from a certain death sentence. Victoria is chaffing under the strict rules both Buc and her uncle impose on her when Trinity wanders in she takes advantage of his easy going nature to travel across the ranch to conduct surveys to find the best places to build winter cabins to oversee the livestock on the ranch. Trinity uses these moments to build her trust and convince Victoria that she might have some fleeting feelings for him. When Trinity is fired only weeks later, Victoria joins him, only to learn that he is a bounty hunter: her bounty hunter.
The dusty, forlorn trail between Arizona's Verde River and the jail is filled with a series of mishaps and comedic moments. Trinity deals with his demons and ghosts in ways that he never expected.
Arizona Embrace is a nice change from the Cowboys series where it felt like every woman that Greenwood wrote about was petrified of the existence of a gun despite their necessity in the uncharted American Western Territories. While it was a nice book to read and gave me the sense of story that any story should, I don't necessarily find that Arizona Embrace is a "must have" story for the Greenwood library.

This elegant book is the culmination of the efforts of a husband-and-wife team of photographers to capture the spectacular, mystical landscape of the Southwest that is Ghost Ranch. Although best known as a desert retreat for artists such as Ansel Adams and Georgia O'Keeffe, Ghost Ranch has a long and colorful history dating to prehistoric times. Printed in a stunning tritone method, the images in this book reproduce the hand-toned effects of the original prints with remarkable clarity and astonishing accuracy.

Breathtaking photos of the Colorado plateau.......2000-02-13
This book offers a breathtaking view of the Colorado plateau. The full-page color photos are so incredibly vivid they almost jump off the page. It really makes you feel like you are there.
You get a look at towering mountains & magnificent nature made stone sculptures. Cascading waterfalls, meandering steams, peaceful snowscapes, brilliant autumn leaves, beautiful flowers & endless skies take your breath away.
Muench is a master at capturing detail and light, and this setting shows off his talent to the maximum. A narrative by James Lawrence provides a history of the area and conveys the feelings inspired by this natural wonderland.
Some images have small quotes & poems under them. In the back, each photo is shown in miniature with comments from photographer and technical details. This book provides a beautiful world to get lost in.
A beautiful book with slight flaws.......1999-12-28
This is a gorgeous book of southwest photographs. It has many examples of how to take great photographs. An interesting feature is the photographers comments about each photograph, found in the back of the book. There are only a few flaws in my humble view. Some of the photographs were printed with very exagerated color saturation. This is painful in some cases. Another problem is Mr. Muench's use of a split density magenta filter for several of the photographs. He tries to give the scenes a warm glow but the magenta color looks totally fake, especially when one sees it only across the top of the photograph. Please throw that split density magenta filter away and let the southwest present its beauty naturally. Still a great and valuable book to own.
One of the Best from David Muench.......1999-12-23
Besides the several landscape books from Muench, I have collected quite a few other landscape books from other famous photographers. By far, this is the one I like most (together with one by Apse called "New Zealand Landscape"). The photos in the book fully demonstrate that one can always breathe new life to old scenes with enough skill, perception and perseverence.
A beautiful book.......1999-08-05
This is the first David Muench book that i've purchased and because of the beautiful photos inside it will not be my last.
Top of the list. David Muench has outdone himself........1999-06-24
David Muench has written many wonderful photo books, but he has really put his heart into this one.

From the supplier: Well-designed exterior lighting can serve both practical and aesthetic purposes in urban design. New technology makes it possible to provide natural non-glare lighting that saves on energy consumption. Metal halide and color-corrected high-pressure sodium are the most popular materials used in outdoor lighting. Fiberoptics, low-voltage strips and parabolic aluminized reflector lamps are also used in some instances. Specific lighting solutions in Philadelphia, PA, Lansing, MI, and on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay, FL are discussed.
