In the 1970s, rock was not without its pretensions, but neither was it without a sense of freewheeling adventurousness. In the case of Renaissance, that meant on occasion adding not just strings but a full orchestra to their relentlessly English brand of progressive folk rock. The Royal Albert Hall concert captured in part on this 1977 King Biscuit Flower Hour radio broadcast (the second half is available separately) features lengthy versions of "Can You Understand" and "Can You Hear Me," plus a brief, beautiful take on "Carpet of the Sun." The heart of the album, though, is the 25-minute suite "Song of Scheherazade." The band and orchestra are in exemplary form throughout. Not surprisingly, however, it is vocalist Annie Haslam who is first among equals here, her gorgeous multi-octave voice keeping attention riveted between long instrumental excursions. --Daniel Durchholz
Product Description
An October 14, 1977 concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Harry Rabinowitz. The group had already done a live album with a 30-piece orchestra from Carnegie Hall, but this performance is, in some respects, better. The older songs are a curiosity, with 'Can You Understand' performed in a version more expansive (the horns of the RPO add a lot) but less taut than the original recording. 'Carpet of the Sun' is similarly broadened from the studio original, but is lacking the bite of the original.

I WAS THERE !!!.......2007-06-21
First band on Stage: STEELY DAN, The Original Band with Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter on Guitar & David Palmer on Vocals. The Dan ROCKED !!! They Played almost everything from their Classic first Record, and "Do it Again" featured a Mean Solo of 'Plastic Organ' as Donald Fagen, called it. We all knew these guys would be Headliners the next time they came to Town, {They DIDN'T Tour again for over 20 YEARS!}.
The Middle Group was the: "Glam Band of the Week...SLADE. I had never heard of this Lot, BUT, they had had a Number One Hit in England, So here they be in all their Glory and Glitter, The Lead Guitar Player looked like a Martian and he had "ODD GOB" written on his Silver Suit. The Band KISS stole lot's of Ideas from these Boys, I never met a soul who actually Bought one of their Records, Ever.
Well, after almost an hour...TA DAAAA....HUMBLE PIE !!! And Loudly, they cranked out; "Up Our Sleeve", there is only One word to describe this assualt on our senses, POWER !!! The second Tune? What else, could it be but "4 Day Creep" from the "Live at the Filmore Record", When the Crowd heard the First Notes of this, We all went NUTS. Next Steve introduced the Back-Up Singers: The Blackberries, and sat at a White Hammond organ, and launched into "Black Coffee" with a Dirty Rap Directed Right at the Girls and what he had planned to do to them after the Show, this is not on the King Biscuit Master because of the Subject Matter {it's R Rated).
There were a few more 'Soul Numbers' performed, and just in time Steve jumped up from behind his Big Organ {His Pun, Not Mine} and Got back to Serious Rock Business once again with a KILLER: "Stone Cold Fever" that went on & on, it was Plenty longer than the "Filmore" version, It was Majestic and had some really pretty playing in the Middle section, the Guitar Leads by Clem and Steve were Amazing! This one Needs to see the light of Day again, and alas, it ISN'T on this CD...$#!*
Also, not included is the Long, long version of "Rollin' Stone" they played that Night, again this would be due to the Lyric Content as they are very sexual, BUT, this version was way different from the other live Version and is also merits an Official Release.
I am glad "30 Days" made it to the Record, BUT, again there is an EDIT here as Steve introduced it with a long funny Rap, that is Not here as well as ANOTHER Rap right in the middle of this Crowd pleaser. It isn't included as well, This Song could be from Another Night, and Not the May 6 Winterland show, if it IS Winterland, it's a great Edit.
Some of the best Stuff IS here: "Halleluah, I Love her So" and "Hot N' Nasty" were SMOKIN'...these are the Best versions of these Pie Classics, out there. The Show closed with "Doctor", and again this was a great version. The encore on this night was "Honky Tonk Woman" and then "Roadrunner". It was all over by 2AM {The Official Winterland Closing Time}, if a show ran later than that they Closed the doors and became a "Private Party" until dawn.
I do wish we had the ENTIRE SHOW here, (it would take 2 CD's) because there is less than half of The Pie's set included here. But, I doubt that will ever happen. This was a GREAT NIGHT at Winterland, and I will always Remember just How GREAT it was to see this Band Up-Close.
FOUR STARS...

Comparing this or Rockin' The Filmore to any of the live Crowe releases makes it clear that the Pie was the real deal!! Steve Marriott was an incredible vocalist/showman and the band as a whole just rocks!
IMHO this KBFH release is so good (Hot And Nasty is worth the price alone!) that it's even better than Rockin' The Filmore - which is a stone classic in it's own right. The track listings are distinct enough that you should own both of them.

SOOOO MUCH BETTER than the "Live" album!.......2001-03-26
Of course their live shows were awesome and full of energy. After 20+ years of living with the sterile, commercially restrained "LIVE" album from 1977, this KING BISCUIT live cd came as a GODSEND to the people who know what this band was REALLY like, in a live setting!
The CD features 6 tracks from the NIGHT SHIFT tour of 1976, plus 3 ESSENTIAL live versions of "HOME IN MY HAND", "EIGHT DAYS ON THE ROAD" and "I JUST WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO YOU" from 1974. The latter featuring a rave-up intro by Lonesome Dave. It includes a line that you'd NEVER hear on the "commercially safe" LIVE album; goes a little something like.. "I Don't want your money, no I don't want your money... I SAID I DON'T WANT YOUR F*#!*&! MONEY!!( The "Live" album leaves out the F*#!*&!) The inclusion of the "F*#!*&!" just adds a little passion and "arse kickin" attitude into an already GREAT live CD.
There's also the bonus interview track; a portion of an interview with Lonesome Dave concerning Foghat's approach to their live shows. The track is 9 1/2 minutes long, but because of Dave's slow explanation, he only hits on about 3 or 4 points. It's still a somewhat interesting interview though and it's always great to hear insight from the artist.
Overall, this is an OUTSTANDING live release. If you're a FOGHAT fan, RUN don't WALK to buy this CD! Trust me, you've been waitng nearly 24 years to own a REAL live album from this excellent band.
I wish that there was a "part two" available that featured other great FOGHAT songs like the foot stomping "TERRAPLANE BLUES", "HIGHWAY (KILLING ME)" or "MAYBELLINE", which is the best send up of the Chuck Berry classic ever put to tape.
p.s Someone below stated that FOGHAT was "THE" live attraction of 1976. Although I definately think they were one of the very best, I believe that KISS would more accurately hold that title.

Power, Emotion, Mysticism, Virtuosity...it's all here, live........2006-07-17
I only mention this because it was only there that you could hear in frequent rotation such classic songs as "Ice" by Crack the Sky, "Free Hand" by Gentle Giant, "Nowhere's Too Far For My Baby" by Frampton, or "Day of the Eagle" by Robin Trower. A belated "thank you" to WSAY for opening up my musical mind.
At that time, I was a folk-rock junkie beginning the transformation into a prog rock champion. I was not a fan of the blues, and I did not yet fully appreciate heavy electric guitar; but I knew there was talent and emotion in Trower's music, and I became an avid closet Trower collector and listener long after WSAY changed formats. This recording of a King Biscuit Flower Hour performance from 1977 shows Trower at his peak, and is a treasure for anyone who ever fell in love with this Englishman's unique style of electric blues/acid rock guitar.
James Dewar's vocals are great (always reminded me of David Clayton Thomas [from Blood, Sweat & Tears] doing an imitation of Jimi Hendrix!), and he gets a chance to focus on vocals-only here as bass duties are skillfully carried by Rustee Allen, while Bill Lordan plays all drums. Trower himself is flawless in his execution of these killer tunes, and you get to hear him talking and joking with an adoring crowd. He shines brightest on long slow jams, and we're treated to a couple of classics on the extended versions of "Daydreams" (12 minutes) and "Bridge of Sighs" (9 minutes).
This recording does a nice job of capturing the fun and excitement of the show. My only complaint is that the bass was mixed kind of low - to get a nice dynamic feel for this music, I suggest turning the bass way up on your stereo equalizer (especially so you get the most out of Allen's bass solo on "Messin' the Blues").
A fantastic 70-minute overview of Trower's music in the late 70's, I highly recommend this one-of-a-kind cd.
I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:
Music quality = 8.9/10; Performance = 8.5/10; Production = 8/10; CD length = 10/10.
Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 8.8 ("4-1/2 stars")
A pleasant surprise.......2004-12-19
His studio albums have always seemed too slick to me. This live recording adds some needed rough edges to the Trower sound. Although the late James Dewar's vocals could be a little cheesy at times, he's great on this one.
Okay, so Robin was influenced by Hendrix, tell me what guitar player from the last 30 years hasn't been? But it is not true that Trower was just a Jimi wannabe. He was a *peer* of Hendrix, one of many guitar players who explored a psychedelic twist on the blues in the 60s and 70's.
"Further on up the Road", is a Trower-ized version of the blues classic and it is THE shining jewel on this CD. This song alone is worth the price of the CD.
2004 is the 50th anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster and the 30th anniversary of Bridge of Sighs. I can't think of a better anniversary present than this album. Enjoy!
Holy S*&^!!!! That's all I have to say.......2004-10-25
This is energized and raw. Just get it if your a Trower fan or just a guitar rock fan. This live album can NOT dissapoint.

Product Description
The King Biscuit Flower Hour, a mainstay of weekend late-night FM radio throughout the late-'70s and early-'80s, tended to catch groups on the way up. But this live set, recorded in San Antonio in late 1984, not only features the Romantics five years after their definitive single, 1979's garage-rock stomper "What I Like About You," it comes over a year after their comeback hit, 1983's slickly-processed "Talking In Your Sleep." Recorded just before drummer/singer Jimmy Marinos left the band--their last album, 1985's RHYTHM ROMANCE, was recorded without him--this set strips away the soulless over-production which mars the band's later efforts. Without the layers of electronics, "Talking In Your Sleep" and its brethren are catchy, politely rocking pop songs. The set ends with a medley of '60s raveups culminating in the one-two punch of "What I Like About You" and a smoking "Little Latin Lupe Lu."Album Description
This concert, recorded on Oct. 30, 1983 in San Antonio, at the peak of the group's popularity, it captures them in a powerful, energetic performance, displaying their best garage punk attributes full force along with a surprisingly melodic sound that put them a few steps above bands like the Ramones. It's all here, including 'Talking In Your Sleep' and climaxing with 'What I Like About You.Customer Reviews:

The Romantics are one of the best live groups I have ever seen and this CD certainly captured a great performance! The first release by the romantics is still the best, but this is a close second! Even if you're a music buyer who doesn't prefer live CD's I think you'll be in for a surprise with this one.

Places the Romantics right up there with the Kinks and Stones when it comes to live power! I cannot say enough about this CD, if you call your self a fan of real rock' n roll - it doesn't get any better than this. Buy this disc and go see them live TODAY they're still touring and giving it all they have 20 years later!
Rockin' Romantics At Their Best!.......2001-11-29
All the Hits are here (What I Like About You and Talkin' In Your Sleep)with the exception of 'One In A Million', but there are numbers from everyone of their first four albums.
Marinos sings about a third of the Songs here with Palmar singing the rest. The first ten cuts of this album are non stop party fun! If you thought that The Romantics were some cute cuddly pop rock band, think again. Their brand of Detroit Rock & Roll is amazingly sharp and smokin'.
THE BAND NEEDS MORE FOCUS!!!.......1999-01-31

GREAT SHOW !.......2000-02-11
Recorded in 1982, this album provides an earful of songs from Forbert's first four releases, as well as excellent covers of the Troggs' "Love Is All Around" and Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" and "Little Queenie."
The liner notes quote Forbert as saying this show was performed the night he met his wife. I've always wondered if they met before or after the concert. His singing would suggest the former, as youthful exuberance and a huge dose of energy are evident throughout, although I have seen Steve play to a crowd of literally 25 people, and he still played his heart out.
Forbert and his band "The Flying Squirrels" rock their way through "Ya Ya (Next To Me)", "He's Gotta Live Up To His Shoes," the wonderfully twisted "Complications," the singer's top 20 hit "Romeo's Tune," and most of the other tracks. They slow down just a bit on "Love Is All Around" and "It Isn't Gonna Be That Way," a great song from the artist's classic debut album.
Perhaps the best thing about this recording is that songs such as "Say Goodbye To Little Jo" and "School Girl," which flat-lined on the studio albums, sound terrific here due to Forbert's enthusiasm and the punch delivered by the band.
Overall, this is a wonderful snapshot of very talented young singer/songwriter having a lot of fun, and treating the audience to a great show. I wish I'd been there.

Steve Miller Band at their best.......2006-05-17
Smooth and Grooving Stevie.......2006-02-19
Here was a guy who belted out songs about revolution, children of the future, and military-industrial complexes, but his hardcore appeal seemed to lie with the frat-boy crowd. He wasn't cool enough for the hippies, who slunk off with their Grateful Dead, Quicksilver, and Hot Tuna... you know, the "authentic" San Francisco bands.
He called himself "Stevie 'Guitar' Miller" , but the only sh-t hot guitar solo on his classic albums was credited to another Miller named Jimmy ("Good Morning", on "Number 5").
The two King Biscuit concerts that make up this double-cd cover selections from nearly ever album that Miller made up until 1976.... with the exception of "Your Saving Grace".
The 1973 concert is looser, with Miller himself handling the lead guitar, and turning in fine performances of "Mary Lou" and other crowd pleasers. it is interesting to hear "Fly Like an Eagle", and "My Dark Hour" back to back, since they share the same introductory guitar riff.
The 1976 concert is a bit more slick, with synthesizer textures firmly in place. Miller limits himself mostly to 12 string guitar in this concert, and even pulls a song ("Nothing Lasts") from the long unavailable "Recall the Beginning: A Journey from Eden" album.
Miller always employed good sidemen--drummers Jack King and Gary Mallaber are particularly fine on these recordings-- and as for Stevie himself, he is in great vocal form throughout. Miller always could deliver the goods. These performances are a good reminder of his considerable talents as a musician, showman, and songcrafter.
Steve Miller Band - 'King Biscuit Flower Hour' (King Biscuit).......2005-11-03
Anybody sick of hearing the same Steve Miller stuff on the radio should buy this release.......2005-09-14
the poor man's Eric Clapton.......2005-08-10
The first disc is near-and-dear to my own heart as I caught Miller on his 1973 tour (along with the talented James Cotton Blues Band) at the ornate and intimate confines of the Masonic Temple in Detroit, Michigan. It was one of over 400 concerts Miller performed in a two-year time span. I wasn't well versed in Miller's catalog at the time, but my recollections of the concert are bore out by the recording tendered here. Miller starts out with a flurry of catchy rock tunes, including 1969's `Space Cowboy', 1968's `Living In the USA', and 1970's politically-minded `Jackson-Kent Blues', which carries itself aurally as a precursor for his 1976 hit, `Rock'N Me'. While most of the tracks are penned by Miller (including `Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma', `Fly Like An Eagle', and `My Dark Hour'), there is a run of covers in `Mary Lou', `Your Cash Ain't Nothin' But Trash' and even `Gangster Of Love', which Miller claimed as a personal moniker. It's a fast-moving, intense rock show that unexplainably loses its fury and bows out with two fairly restrained blues numbers, `Evil' and a cover of Duke Ellington's `Blues With a Feelin', and the closer, a two-minute adios curiously featuring the band introductions, `So Long Blues' (which, ironically, Miller introduces as `Welcome'). Quite oxymoronic. Only `Lovin' Cup', from `The Joker', returns us to the riveting rock concert we started out with. The most interesting moments turn on the raw, guitar-based, formative version of `Fly Like An Eagle' Miller possessed in 1973. While the more evolved, keyboard-based version offered on disc two is certainly more familiar, its familiarity renders it the more superfluous of the two tracks. Both are thoroughly enjoyable, and are altogether compelling as a pair.
Disc two reveals a more accomplished and polished Steve Miller Band, this despite presenting only two of his seven Top-40 recordings, `Fly Like An Eagle' (#2 in January of 1977) and `The Joker' (#1 in November of 1973). There is an abundance of readily recognizable tunes, however, as Miller had become a staple for album-oriented FM radio in the 1970's. Among those tunes would be three tracks from `Fly Like An Eagle', `Wild Mountain Honey', `Mercury Blues', and `The Window'. He reaches all the way back to his first album for 1968's `Baby's Callin' Me Home', his second album for 1968's `Song For Our Ancestors', his third disc for 1969's `Seasons', his fifth album for 1970's `Going To the Country' and `Going To Mexico', and his seventh album for 1972's `Nothin' Lasts'. If you don't recognize these excellent compositions from their titles, you'll probably be surprised at how well acquainted you are with many of them. A respectable cover of Robert Johnson's oft-recorded `Come On In My Kitchen' completes the collection. Despite the fact that Miller rarely wrote a song without a fantastic guitar hook, those chops are much less pronounced on disc two as Miller had diversified his sound in the mid-1970's. By 1976, Miller's concerts ran the gamut from anthemic psychedelia (`Fly Like An Eagle'), to whispy ballads (`Wild Mountain Honey'), to crunchy blues-rock (`Mercury Blues'), and even to a reggae influenced (it was 1976 after all...) 'The Joker'.
I've been impressed with every `King Biscuit' disc I've had the pleasure to own, and this two-disc set is no exception. The recordings are brisk, with the caveat that a few of the softer passages reveal distracting tape hiss. Despite this, all of the musicians are well represented, Miller's vocals are strong, and there is a minimum of intrusive crowd noise. A well-constructed booklet is included with extensive notes from Miller himself, personal kudos' from Paul McCartney and Les Paul, and copious photographs of Miller and his band mates. The only criticism of the Biscuits' production is their failure to publish the running times for individual songs, despite listing them in three separate places. Nevertheless, `The King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents The Steve Miller Band' is a great way for casual fans like myself to collect a wealth of Miller's best work, and stands as an essential commodity for Miller's more devoted fans.

he didn't miss a step.......2005-06-28
In addition to this being Crosby's exclamation of triumph over drug addiction, 'KBFH Presents David Crosby' offers the listener a rare opportunity to hear Crosby sans his usual sidekicks, Graham Nash and Stephen Stills. So here we get a chance to hear David put his own spin on tracks such as 'Guinnevere', 'Deja Vu', and 'Wooden Ships', and while I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say that Still's guitar and Nash's harmonies aren't missed, there is an urgency and freshness to these performances that CS&N may never be able to muster again.
David offers up a compelling song list, delving back into his circa-1970 CSN&Y compositions such as 'Guinnevere', 'Deja Vu', 'Wooden Ships', 'Almost Cut My Hair' and 'Long Time Gone', along with tracks from two CS&N reunion's, 1977's 'In My Dreams' and 1982's 'Delta'. It's interesting just to hear Crosby cover these tracks with substitute harmonies and backing musicians, and I'm pleased to report that none of these versions disappoint. Keyboardist Michael Finnigan draws on his longstanding studio and concert work with CS&N, and adds some impressive harmonies, while guitarist Dan Dugmore (longtime session steel guitarist for Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor) takes over lead guitar duties for Stills. Crosby's band also features bassist Davey Farragher, who has backed John Hiatt, and drummer Jody Cortese, whose career may well have peaked out right here. All-in-all, a better-than-average collection of musicians, able to exhude their own personality, even over these nostalgic tracks.
Half of the setlist offered by Crosby is drawn from two new releases, 1988's CSN&Y reuinion disc 'American Dream' ('Night Time For the Generals' and 'Compass') and 1990's 'Oh, Yes I Can' (the title track, plus 'Drive My Car' [not the Lennon/McCartney classic], 'Monkey and the Underdog', 'Tracks In the Dust' and 'Lady of the Harbor'). While none of these numbers is on a par with Crosby's legendary compositions from the 1960's, they do show Crosby's musical genius was far from snuffed out by drug usage. And while 'Tracks In the Dust' and 'Compass' add to Crosby's lengthy acoustic legacy, 'Drive My Car', 'Monkee and the Underdog', and 'Night Time For the Generals' show Crosby still knows how to rock, as well as carry a politicized edge. Since most of the songs speak to his experience overcoming massive life problems, they are (for Crosby) uncharacteristically upbeat and optimistic. 'Lady of the Harbor', done in homage to the Statue of Liberty on her 100th birthday, is even patriotic. So these songs provide a vital contrast to Crosby's more dark and pessimistic fare from earlier in his career.
This King Biscuit recording is culled entirely from one night's performance, so the possibilities for an off-kilter performance or poor recording quality are high, but neither materializes as an unfortunate circumstance. In fact, Crosby and the band sound tight and energized, and the recording is just about flawless. There is the occasional missed note, and a couple untimely audience "contributions", but David and the band hardly seem fazed at all, and so for the most part neither will you. The 1996 'Collector's Edition' is digitally remastered and the package includes detailed liner notes with several photographs, presumably from this show. If you go for the analog-to-digital 1990 version, be sure to get it at a discounted price. It may be tough however to beat the $3.49 I paid (shipping included) for my 1996 copy on ebay.
Crosby at his best - Buy this before it goes out of print!!.......2003-01-12
Crosby's rendition of "Oh, yes I can" here is probably the most maginificent, moving and honest self-commentary in the history of rock music, coming from the man who had gone there and back who used to be, for want of a better word, so arrogant. The emotional content of this performance surpasses the subdued studio version (sadly out of print) by a gigantic margin.
The "monkey and the underdog" that follows, with the introduction "I am the underdog", hits the same emotional height as Crosby confesses "I'm fighting just to get from four o'clock to five".
I treasure this CD. You just listen to it.
The best he can be !.......1999-10-27
The band at this time consisted of Dan Dugmore (lead guitar), Mike Finnegan (keyboards), Davy Farragher (bass), and Jody Cortez (drums), and David (rhythm guitar). That's it. No cameos from Graham or anyone else, and that suits me just fine. It's just David out in front of a simple band, with no one else vying for center stage. He actually plays guitar on every single track (except for the piano ballads "Delta",and "Oh, Yes I Can"),and although he's never been more than a marginal guitarist, he's does a respectable job grinding out chords behind Dugmore's excellent leads. This is most apparent on "Wooden Ships", where we hear David's twelve string ringing true, and it seems he was actually making an effort to get creative with it. This is most telling at closing portion of the song where he provides a goosebump provoking lick to close out the song. This is the best live performance of "Wooden Ships" I've ever heard, either by CSN, CSN&Y, Jefferson Airplane, or on Stills' solo efforts. We get similar results on "Deja Vu", "Long Time Gone", and "Almost Cut My Hair". The album is balanced out by material from the "Oh, Yes I Can" album, and basically mirrors the solo versions, which is ok. The material was new at this point in time. Per Croz's usual routine, the show starts out with an acoustic set (Tracks in the Dust, Guinnevere, Compass, and In My Dreams). He does a nice enough job with these (with the exception of the lyrically tortured "Compass", a song with such obscure lyrics that even the composer forgets the words on the first line !). But the real gems are the electric songs. Along with the aforementioned classics, we get the new composition "Nighttime For the Generals", which rocks (with David adding guitar...something he didn't do on American Dream).
All-in-all, this is one fine live album. I listen to it a lot. David should be proud of this one !

Album Description
Recorded live on March 26, 1984 in West Palm Beach, Florida, this show captures Pat Travers at the peak of his career. Backed by Jerry Riggs (guitar), Barry Dunaway (bass), and Pat Marchino (drums), he grinds out a string of high-energy rock, including 'Hot Shot' and 'Killer', an extended 'Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights),' a cover of Albert King's 'Born Under a Bad Sign,' and 'La La La Love You' from the soundtrack 'Valley Girl'. The wattage is high and the tempos are ferocious, enough to make this one of the great live rock guitar showcase albums ever done.Customer Reviews:

5 Stars for Ringo and the All - Starr Band.......2002-10-04
Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band have quietly been hitting the road for a number of years, playing small to medium sized venues, with hardly any fanfare.
But what makes these secret little shows so special is the way the entire band comes together and shares each other's music. Ringo doesn't just hit the road and stand in the spotlight. Instead he brings with him a band of friends with a variety of musical backgrounds and they all play and sing together.
If you ever get a chance to catch Ringo and His All-Starr Band in concert... GO! Until then, grab the CDs of the prior shows and enjoy!
