Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

The Muffs have always produced killer albums and this one is no exception. In fact, this may be their piece du resistance! After a five year absence, Kim, Ronnie and Roy are back with what is not only their best album ever, but also one of the best albums of the year! You need to buy this!

Another instant classic........2004-09-09

As usual The Muffs come through again with "Really Really Happy". "A Little Luxury" is another in a long line of classic sounding Muffs songs from the minute you hear it, as well as "Everybody Loves You", "Freak Out" and " I'm Here I'm Not". And some interesting new styles on "My Lucky Day" with keyboards and some very cool backing vocals."Slow" really shows Kim's vocal diversity on this record. You go girl.

Fantastic Pop Album.......2004-08-21

The Muffs have been at it for over a decade and they have always delivered great albums. Their latest is no exception. If anything, it is apparent that their decision to take time between releases has only improved their already great music. moneen...such an underrated band!.......2006-03-11

this is the sophmore album from the canadian-based band, moneen. this album is very similiar to their debut "theory of harmonial value". if you liked that cd you will love this cd and then some... there's no doubt moneen is talented with their clever lyrics, rawness, emotion, and drawn-out, story-like, epic songs. even though both albums are similiar i like this one alot more. it seems to have something that their debut didn't. i really can't pinpoint it, you'll have to listen for yourself. i hate seeing moneen get dumped in the emo scene and get compared to awful bands that don't even have half the talent these guys do. i really can't explain this album...it's one of those albums you listen to that takes you out of your body and takes you to a higher level and makes you think about and feel different emotions. similiar to brand new's "deja entendu", armor for sleep's "dream to make believe", and perhaps senses fail's "from the depths of dreams". i can't believe how underrated these guys are! i guess the dark lyrics and length of the songs could be minor reasons. if you like any of the three other albums i listed above you MUST have this album. if anything, years from now when emo is over i would like to think moneen will get some recognition or perhaps this spring when their new album "the red tree" comes out. this is a standout band who rise above your typical emo band who are really saying something in their music and deliver one of the best (underrated) albums of 2003. the title track is my second fave but the best moneen song is #6 "i have never done anything that wasn't for myself as well". it's a piano ballad that has hidden meanings and very dark imagery that gave me chills. as you can see from this novel, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM.

I love this band...despite emo.......2005-05-14

I SO do not like all the fuss over emo.
but its a fad, like most things, and will eventually become the mellenium's equivalent of grunge.

but unlike a lot of emo bands Moneen is actually original.
they described their music as "agressive, melodic pop"...which I completely agree with.
its got all the edge and energy of punk-rock, and the catchy hooks of pop.

I loved this album.
my fav tracks were "Start angry...end mad" and "with this song I will destroy myself".

Sweet Jesus.......2005-02-02

I first heard this band about a year and a half ago, at first i didnt like. it wasnt until recently that i started listening to them again...True if you dont like it you probably DO listen to Nickleback, in which case you should jump off a bridge because Nickleback sucks bad. Sure maybe this IS "emo" but if you are judging a band on the label someone else gives it then you should also jump off a bridge, because nobody likes you. Musically these guys know thier stuff, the timing they use on some songs is quite impressive, as far as fills and riffs go, i dont think i need to say much. For anyone who is looking to buy this cd BUY IT, IT IS WORTH THE MONEY and you will be hooked to it for sure

Great.......2004-08-04

Great could be an understatement. I never heard of these guys until I saw them live with "Murder By Death" and "Panic In Detroit" in Chicago a few days ago. Moneen put up probably the best live show. They went from everything calm and tame, to the most intense feeling I felt that night. The last song they played ended with them going off the stage then back on throwing the guitars on the ground, knocking the mics over, and getting on the ground screaming into them. You can't also forget about all the jumping around at other times.

I then decided to buy this album and it is great. They said on their website that when people ask what kind of music they are, they tell people "Agressive, Melodic Pop." That fits them well. For the full experience though, see them live.

wow.......2004-06-21

This album helped me through a lot of tough times in my life. When this album came out I had just broken up with my girlfriend of 2 years because she was cheating...and as track 2 says, "2 years is a long time to pretend." The hatred on the first few tracks was really true for me at the time, and a few weeks after the album came out my grandpa passed away and as track 7 says, "I won't say goodbye and I refuse to watch you die, I won't forget." But yeah, if you're having a tough time this album is one of the best albums to listen to. It tackles just about every mood you can think of. It's fast and ferocious at times and soft and chill at other times. It goes through all the moods I was feeling when it came out, and it's just all together one of the best albums of 2003 in my opinion. All the musicians on the album are absolutely amazing and this band is extremely talented. Buy everything they have released. You won't regret it.

Good bargain........2004-08-25

The performances are good--this is the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, after all--and you get 2 full CDs, with 2 selections from "Trial by Jury", 5 from "HMS Pinafore", 9 from "The Pirates of Penzance", 9 from "Iolanthe", 12 from "The Mikado", 6 from "The Yeomen of the Guard", and 13 from "The Gondoliers". The booklet is a bit skimpy, and only lists recording dates for the first CD (1929-1949). But the sound is good, and the music is great, and at this price it's a great "greatest hits" collection.
