Just check out local heroes Diffuser, whose major-label debut lurches along in the tradition of early Queen, Mission of Burma, and Buck Pets, with its thundering metronomic beats, artfully intertwined guitar riffs, and high-decibel melodic hooks. Tomas Constanza croons his coming-of-age lyrics with an earnest urgency that unites the alt-rock dynamic excess of "Losers of the Year" with the 1960s pop inflections of "Tell Her This." The band, who dropped their old Flu 13 moniker in order to escape the glut of similarly named outfits, even closes with a hidden track that lovingly sends up '80s hair bands. Helmed by producer Don Gilmore (Eve 6, Lit, Pearl Jam) and mixer Machine (White Zombie, Pitchshifter), Injury Loves Melody is a promising blend of pristine pop and sonic dissonance that should make Massapequa proud. -Bill Forman

Diffuser is the best new band of 2003.......2003-05-04

I was given a copy of the new Diffuser CD "Making the Grade" by my co-star in my latest movie. I put it in my CD player a week ago and it has not left since. I listen to it every day before, during and after the set. It is truly amazing. 4 days ago I purchased a copy of "Injury Loves Melody". I received it today and I must say I am a fan for life. The lyrics and vocals are unreal. Make sure ya'll support these guys. Can't wait to see them in L.A.

I went and saw these guys in concert and they Rocked!!! I met the band and even got Tomas to sign my cd and their play list. He is awesome and their music totally kicks ...! I recommend this cd to anyone and everyone. It is a MUST HAVE. The guys are awesome, and they have a great energy...so if they're coming to a town near you, it would be foolish to pass the chance to see them!!!

Absolutely amazing album from start to finish! Their is not a bad song on the cd. Tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and especially 11 are phenomenal. 8 out of 11 tracks is a good ratio.
A raw and unique band with such great melodies is very uncommon today. Definetly buy this album ASAP!!!

If you miss straight-ahead, in-your-face rock with musicians playing real instruments, you must try Diffuser. 11 raw yet polished, hard but melodic tunes that prove rock 'n roll like it used to be hasn't yet gone the way of the Dodo.
Tracks like "Tidal", "Karma", "Tell Her This", and the money-song "Leaving With A California Tilt", are all instantly accessible and will stick. The rhythm section bass and drum on the latter track is hypnotic and just jams. Worth getting the disc even if the balance of the disc wasn't as awesome as it indeed is.
Give this band a try, a bit unknown, but there major-label debut is unforgettable.

Diffuser: They'll Bring The Melody, If You Bring The Injury.......2002-01-06

When I first heard Diffuser's single, the rip-roaring "Karma" on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, I immediately dug the song. So I bought the album a while later at a used record store and came to find out that the album is a hidden treasure. This is a spectacular rock record. With some alternative sounds that are comparable to the Foo Fighters, and power that is like dynamite exploding in your ears, Diffuser is a likely candidate for one of rock's newest heroes. The band has a musical sound all of its own with drums that are earth-shattering and guitar that is mind-bending. And it shows in this truly magnificent album. Despite it's quickness with only eleven cuts, the album goes by with a speed and fury that's not angry or sad, but heartfelt and witty. The quick-rhyming ballad "The Way That I Feel" is the highlight, and the closer, "I Don't Have The Nerve" goes by creepily slow and has whip-snapping stop-go guitars. "I Am" sounds very much like what something Foo Fighters would record, while the lovely soft-then-hard ballad "Tell Her This" sounds as if Weezer matured and got edgy. Bass-heavy "Leaving On A California Tilt" is the one of the albums darker moments, as most of this album is pretty meloncholy. The biggest gem on the album is the Radiohead-esque anthem "Losers Of The Year." The melodies are perfect, the hooks are sugary sweet yet dashed with a hard-boiled slab of grunge tint, and finished off with a stand-out band that can write damn good songs that don't go too long. Even though the band does nothing new and diferent, it just goes back to old fashioned rock, with a sound that reaches back to old Aerosmith and Van Halen. If you're looking for a good way to injure yourself...put on the "Melody."
