Mozart effective.......2007-04-07

I love classical music, bought this for my child who has attention difficulties, he enjoys hearing it in the background as he completes his homework assignments.

I tried this cd when I studied for math and physics to improve my grades and it sounds kind of crazy but the very first time I listened to this about a week before my trigonometry exam, I made the highest grade on it than ever before. There is something truley amazing with these volumes of the mozart effect, im going to get volumes 1-5 because it really helps me with math. I actually look forward to doing my math homework now..its brilliant! One of my favorite songs out all the albums is on this one..its song #3 on the focus cd,its awesome! Preview it and you will see what I mean.

must have for ADHD.......2006-03-09

I ordered this cd set for both my son and husband who have ADHD. It absolutely has a calming effect on both. My husband has the cd on his IPOD and sleeps through the night. My son listens to the cds while doing homework and to fall asleep.
If you have a child w/ADD/ADHD, this cd set is worth a try.

Focus - A Very Nice Comeback.......2007-03-20

Focus has never been one for clever album titles and the rather pedestrian title to this album is no different. I don't know this for sure, but I assume this is the band's 8th studio album. The lineup for this one is the reformed new millennium Focus and is the same that appeared on the bands "Live In America" disc the previous year. About half of the material is written by original member Thjis Van Leer with the rest Jan Dumme and Bobby Jacobs. "8" is a very nice comeback album and should please fans of the classic 70's albums. The sound is very much in the style Focus is known for, although the music does not sound derivative and maintains a modern feel to most of it. The album is a mix of rockers and jazzier mellower pieces. Thjis Van Leer's keyboards are as constant as ever and he really contributes some nice work on flute throughout the album. Guitarist Jan Dumee smokes on the rocker and adds just the right touch of melodic sensibility on the slower material. Jan Akkerman is not missed at all with the expertise of Dumee's contributions here. Highlights of the disc include the opening rocker "Rock & Rio" which is in a similar style to Focus big hit "Hocus Pocus". "Tamara's Move", "Fretless Love", and "Focus 8" are all good ones as well. The only real stinker on the album is the final "bonus" track "Flower Shower". This just sounds like they were in the studio goofing around and decided to stick it on to the end of the album. They shouldn't have bothered. Other than that it is a very nice comeback for this new version of the band.

Focus returns from hibernation with a quite good album.......2005-12-24

Focus 8 is heartening return to form by long-time focus Thijs van Leer, and his new recruits Jan Dumée, Bobby Jacobs, and Bert Smaak, the current version of the band Focus, a band whose line up was always in flux. The territory is nothing new or novel though the band's sound does not approach-thankfully-the over-the-top moments that render its best known work nearly unlistenable now.

This session blasts off with four great songs showing a tight, focused band before stumbling in the middle starting with De Ti O de Mi through Neurotika. These are not bad tracks (unlike the ridiculous Flower Shower) but listening to the middle part of the CD always gives me a headache. I think the band is trying on the middle tracks to hard to create and sustain soaring anthems that eventually collapse without moving forward. The guitar eventually becomes a sonic drill to the frontal lobes.

In summary, Focus has returned from hibernation with a quite good album that takes the band into new directions but with a firm fitting in the band's past. A bit more rigor and discipline, however, would have bolstered the case for this being a great return.

FOCUS IS BACK BABY!!!.......2005-02-02

This cd features Thijs van Leer and 3 new musicians. On Guitar is Jan Dumee who sounds alot (Thats ALOT) like Jan Akkerman. The drummer is Bobby Jacobs (who used to be with Acoustic Alchemy)

The songs have a familiar ring to them, some are derivitive of old Focus songs. Rock And Rio has the hocus pocus yodel. The standout track is Fretless Love. One of the most beautiful songs they have ever done. The BY FAR worst track is Flower Shower. Obviously the boys set up a recorder when Thijs was in the shower one day. Comical, YES, music HELL NO!

A return to form, FOCUS IS BACK!


They are at work on a new cd (Focus 9) to be out later in the year) Pierre Van Der Linden is back at the drums since Bobby Jacobs has left.

All the good old best with new fun & inspiration.......2005-01-01

After making a handful of superb records in the 70's this comeback of 2002 brings back the good times for NL's best band ever. Jan Akkerman's spot is perfectly filled by new man Jan Dumee, while the three newcomers come up with most of the highlight tracks as well.
My favourite is "De ti o de mi", a melancholic guitar & Hammond organ ballad, but "Tamara's move" (beautiful flute playing) and "Sto Ces Raditi Ostatac Zivota?" (latin & jazzy) are not far behind it. The uptempo side is provided by Thijs van Leer on "Rock and Rio" and "Hurkey Turkey", while the classic oriented style is back in the complex title track "Focus 8". Weak spots? hmmm.. "Fretless love" sounds a bit repetitive and the bonus track "Flower shower" is well eh.. just a joke.
All in all it is typical, it radiates fun and new inspiration. On to Focus 9!

Great comeback.......2004-03-03

What a surprise. A fantastic new Focus-album after almost 20 years. It sounds like the best Focus-albums of the seventies, although from the originial line-up only Thijs van Leer is still there. But his presence is overwhelming. The new guitarist is very good too. The sound is somewhat heavier than 20 years ago but the compositions are of good old Focus-quality. You will hear echoes of Hocus Pocus and other classics. Enjoy this album. It's great to see that people from all over the world still remember Focus. It seems like Focus nowadays is more praised abroad than here in their home country.
And the good news is: Focus 9 is on the way (autumn 2004).
