5 out of 5 stars Zero to sixty in a split second!.......2007-04-05

Black Cars, fast cars, whatever! This was the greatest CD of the eighties. Most of this material went un-noticed. Every song is great. This is remastered and it includes a great "extended mix" of "Black Cars". The crazy thing is that Gino pretty much disappeared after this great Cd ran its course.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME! .......2006-03-31

This music is awesome. I never even heard these songs in 1985 so it was never played as much as it should have been. The glossy, polished sound is just spectacular. You can't even tell it's from 1985 it sounds so good.Gino struck gold with this one.

5 out of 5 stars No Its not about Joe's Black Camaro.......2003-01-10

I always laugh when people hear the song,"Black Cars" because inevitably someone will ask if its about his car ! If you're wondering what its all about buy it and listen to it ! Figure it out for yourself. This release is loaded with great songs, and witty lyrics abound. This is Gino's "new wave" entry - very upbeat,"rock" influenced and fun to listen to. I especially love the voice-overs - very sexy. Some of my fav lyrics are on this LP, including, "Here she comes, the ghost of Venus de Milo." (Okay maybe its just the say he says it !?) Terrific !

5 out of 5 stars TIME OF (GOOD) CHANGES FOR GINO ...........2001-07-06

THIS ALBUM MADE A CHANGE IN GINO'S HISTORY: HE ABANDONED (IN A CERTAIN WAY ) HIS REGISTERED GOOD-TASTING BLEND OF SOUL/JAZZ/POP/FUNK THAT SPICED HIS EARLY WORKS , AND TOOK THEN THE "TECHNO" SOUNDS OF THE 80`S AND MADE AN INTERESTING COCKTAIL OF "OLD AND NEW" INGREDIENTS THAT REALLY SURPRISED THE POP MUSIC FOLLOWERS, AND EVEN THE MOST HARDCORE FANS OF HIS INITIAL RECORDINGS, AND ALLOWED HIM TO GAIN A NEW WIDE GENERATION OF YOUNG FANS ALL OVER THE WORLD (FOR EXAMPLE, HERE IN MY COUNTRY HE BEGAN TO BE FAMOUS WHEN PEOPLE HEARD THE ALBUM...)

POINTS OF INTEREST: "BLACK CARS", "HURTS TO BE IN LOVE" (A CLASSIC OF ALL TIMES POP MUSIC),"IMAGINATION" & ALL THE REST OF THIS EXCELLENT RECORDING THAT DEFINED THE NEW SOUND AND APROACH OF GINO FOR HIS GOOD TASTING POP SONGWRITING.

A MUST FOR ANY POP MUSIC LOVER .... REALLY...

Vanelli Adopted a More Aggressive Pop Sound in Reaction to the New Wave that Had Taken Over the Airwaves in the Early 80's. Gone were his Mor Leanings that Made 'livin Inside Myself' a Big Hit in this was his First LP on Polydor, after Having Recorded for A&m for Most of the 70's. Vanelli, Along with his Brothers Joe and Ross, (As Usual) Produced and Arranged all Tracks. Includes the Title Track, 'the Other Man', 'how Much' and Six Others.

5 out of 5 stars Black Cars/ Gino Vannelli.......2001-04-24

In the mid eighties, I was visiting someone when a mutual friend dropped in unexpectedly. He had with him a copy of this album, just released, and insisted that we hear it.

Well, I had stopped listening to most rock music at that point, but he quickly pointed out that it was not rock music, but rather techno-pop dance music with a touch of new wave. He placed the LP on the turntable, and wham! the title song simply exploded from the speakers. I loved it instantly.

I was familiar with Gino Vannelli only from his hit "I Just Wanna Stop," but this blew me away. I have been a fan ever since.

The other outstanding cut from the album is "Hurts To Be in Love." A beautiful love song. I wish it had been a hit when it was released as a single.

Unlike albums that one listens to for a while before relegating them to the next yard sale, I have never grown tired of "Black Cars." After all these years, it still hasn't lost its punch.

The following year Gino Vannelli released another album similar in style, entitled "Big Dreamers Never Sleep." It retained the same dance/pop rhythm, heavy on the synthesizers, and it's my second favorite Vannelli album. Now out of print, it is worth seeking out, if you don't already have it.

As Gino Vannelli approached middle age, his subsequent records changed musical direction, but "Black Cars" and "Big Dreamers" shall always remain my favaorite albums by him.

5 out of 5 stars After all these years.......2000-09-04

I remember hearing the song "Hurts To Be In Love" years ago on the radio in LA. I fell in love with Gino's voice. I bought the LP and I must of played it a thousand times. For awhile I have tried to find Black Cars on CD. I have now succeeded with Amazon.com (Thanks so much!) Anyone who buys this CD will love Gino's voice. Now after all these years I can listen to that wonderful voice. Thanks Gino for making such wonderful music.

5 out of 5 stars Classic 80's album from a man with true talent.......1999-09-11

This is one of those albums that get's you hooked slowly but surely, until you find yourself humming his great hooks all day long. I was turned on to this album long after it came out in 1987, and finally picked it up on disc before it was import only. Then, some loser stole all my discs. So, I paid a lot more to get it again as an import. It is so worth it though. this album is too fun and cool to pass up if you dig the post new-wave highly produced 80's sound. Think Nik Kershaw with a huge voice, and painfully wonderful love songs. I can't live without this one...................

4 out of 5 stars Good for its time.......1999-07-15

Like many other artists in the 80's, Gino did an album that had that new-wavy type sound. Although I was not a big fan of new wave, I did find this album very well produced and fun to listed to. As a long time Gino fan, I was skeptical at first and didn't think this would sound as well as it did. I do recommend it to die-hard fans -- just keep an open mind.

    2 out of 5 stars Space rock?.......2004-06-17

I hate to be the first person to review this and give it a bad rating but this just did not impress. I bought this because I read somewhere that this was the best of the Ohio Space rock scene had to offer.

Intrigued to hear what space rock was, I got this CD and now know that Space Rock is wanna-be pop with uncreative use of "space type" noises. Except for "At the Arcade", no song merits more than the initial listen.

For those in LA, Amoeba Music wouldn't even take it when I tried to get a buck back for it. You will be looking at your watch after song seven. Two stars only because I only reserve one star for Ex-Models and their horrid 'math rock' (believe it or not this is a genre). I'm done with anything where only five bands can be identified to make up a whole genre!
