Album Details
Vanelli Adopted a More Aggressive Pop Sound in Reaction to the New Wave that Had Taken Over the Airwaves in the Early 80's. Gone were his Mor Leanings that Made 'livin Inside Myself' a Big Hit in this was his First LP on Polydor, after Having Recorded for A&m for Most of the 70's. Vanelli, Along with his Brothers Joe and Ross, (As Usual) Produced and Arranged all Tracks. Includes the Title Track, 'the Other Man', 'how Much' and Six Others.Customer Reviews:
Black Cars/ Gino Vannelli.......2001-04-24
Well, I had stopped listening to most rock music at that point, but he quickly pointed out that it was not rock music, but rather techno-pop dance music with a touch of new wave. He placed the LP on the turntable, and wham! the title song simply exploded from the speakers. I loved it instantly.
I was familiar with Gino Vannelli only from his hit "I Just Wanna Stop," but this blew me away. I have been a fan ever since.
The other outstanding cut from the album is "Hurts To Be in Love." A beautiful love song. I wish it had been a hit when it was released as a single.
Unlike albums that one listens to for a while before relegating them to the next yard sale, I have never grown tired of "Black Cars." After all these years, it still hasn't lost its punch.
The following year Gino Vannelli released another album similar in style, entitled "Big Dreamers Never Sleep." It retained the same dance/pop rhythm, heavy on the synthesizers, and it's my second favorite Vannelli album. Now out of print, it is worth seeking out, if you don't already have it.
As Gino Vannelli approached middle age, his subsequent records changed musical direction, but "Black Cars" and "Big Dreamers" shall always remain my favaorite albums by him.

Space rock?.......2004-06-17
Intrigued to hear what space rock was, I got this CD and now know that Space Rock is wanna-be pop with uncreative use of "space type" noises. Except for "At the Arcade", no song merits more than the initial listen.
For those in LA, Amoeba Music wouldn't even take it when I tried to get a buck back for it. You will be looking at your watch after song seven. Two stars only because I only reserve one star for Ex-Models and their horrid 'math rock' (believe it or not this is a genre). I'm done with anything where only five bands can be identified to make up a whole genre!
