Led by Los Angeles punk legend Rikk Agnew, the Adolescents lived up to their name, bawling out song after angst-ridden song about how much everything--mom, dad, the cops, and, most likely, you--totally sucked. Admittedly, that was nothing special for the scene that spawned them, but Agnew's jaw-dropping array of guitar tricks vaulted the Adolescents near to the top of the heap. Equal parts Dick Dale, Johnny Thunders, and Chuck Berry, Agnew didn't flaunt virtuoso moves, but the riffs he laid down on classics like "I Hate Children," "Wrecking Crew," and "Section 8" were instrumental in creating America's first mosh pits. --David Sprague

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great 80s punk!.......2007-01-05

the Adolescents are an incredible 80s punk band. Even though they didn't release too many albums, this one rules. This marks the beginning of mosh pits and chaos in punk rock. "Kids of the black hole" is great. Great riff too. "Amoeba" is enjoyable too. "No friends" is one of my personal favorites. "I HATE CHILDREN" is probably the best!

5 out of 5 stars the way punk should be.......2007-01-03

i dont know about everyone else, but when a "punk" band relies on politics and over promotes their working class values, it definately gets old fast. i mean sure, a few bands can pull that political stuff off really well(bad religion) but otherwise, punk to me is exactly what bands like these guys and TSOL are. lyrics should always be at most, 50% un political.. lyrically, this album stays true to the Damned and Ramones. only difference is, there is more hardcore and speed involved instead of rock n roll influence..and oh yeah, tony's voice.

i think it is essential to every punkers collection

5 out of 5 stars classic punk.......2006-12-12

this is one of the best punk albums ever recorded. early 80's LA hardcore at it's best, this album still rocks hard more than 20 years later. rip it up and wrecking crew are definently the best tracks off this album and two of the best punk songs ever written. but other great tracks include: who is who, ameoba, kids of the black hole, LA girl, no way, and i hate children. this album is a punk classic that everybody should own.

5 out of 5 stars the Debut album from a very great band.......2005-10-15

I thought that this debut album from the Adolescents was pretty good and should be great for newbies. I thought they were a great band (even without Tony Cadena, they were great) this was a band that had really evolved. their next album Brats in Battalions was a little slower and Balboa Fun Zone (if you weren't paying attention) had two singers.

5 out of 5 stars This is O.C. not L.A........2005-09-09

The Ad's were from Orange County not L.A. The two places were a totally different life experience. I went to high school with these guys and that's when they wrote these songs. The base player, Steve Soto, went to El Dorado High, the same school that Mike and James from Agent Orange went to. The music was inspired from the f@#ked up mind set of everyone in O.C. back then. AO's song, El Dorado, was a statement of frustration at the mindless people around them in their school. These were the days when jocks would beat you up for being a punk. The Ad's wrote and played with a fury that I had never seen before. Seeing them play at parties and shows was incredible madness. It was glorious. Being an adolescent myself at the time, and having the same experiences that these guys were going through made this music even more powerfull. It was a drug. It was dangerous. It was punk at it's purest, at it's best. I saw these guys play in Seattle last month and even though it's been 25 years since I first heard these songs, they still gave me goose bumps. This is punk rock. This is music. All the new punk is crap when compared to this.

4 out of 5 stars Very Talented Singer.......2007-04-06

She has the talent of a Dinah Shore or a Helen O'Connell and could have achieved that level of fame had she been born 15-20 years earlier IMHO.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite singer.......2007-01-03

First, for me, there's Sue Raney. Then there are all other singers.

5 out of 5 stars Vocal Jazz Perfection.......2006-11-04

If you think the title to this review sounds hokey or overblown, think again. This 1964 Capitol release shows Raney at the top of her game, backed by a spirited orchestra under the direction of Ralph Carmichael. Raney's voice is technically perfect, adventurous, smooth, expressive, and with just the right touch of vibrato to finish off a phrase (I can't STAND vocalists who overdo the vibrato). As an example, check out the title track, where Raney is accompanied only by a walking bass line as she sashays through Irving Berlin's composition with sassy confidence. Her voice is out there on its own, with no instrumentation to hide behind, and she nails the song--perfectly. Unfortunately, Raney was hit by a car between the end of recording and the record's release, and she was unable to perform in support of the album, leading to disappointing sales. Thanks to this CD reissue, we get to experience what the record-buying public missed out on over 40 years ago--one of the truly great jazz vocal albums of all time.

well...for all those people who are looking for the best.. Eric Carmen Collection .here it is... 17 tracks shouldve been 18...the best carmen has to offer... whta's lacking here is the Dirty Dancing embraced "Hungry Eyes"...and of course the longer and unedited version of All by Myself...But this album is fair enough...Good Cuts.. the rachmaninoff sounding "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again", "Love Is All That Matters" which several filipino recording artists covered... and "Make Me Lose Control"...GET THIS ALBUM TOGETHER with Gerard Kenny's Living In Music.

4 out of 5 stars Fads come and go, good songwriters endure!.......2000-07-11

In my Senior year of High School, Eric Carmen's "Boats Against The Current" LP provided the soundtrack to my life. As a high-school aged disc jockey, I made "Love Is All That Matters" the last song I played every night before I shut the power off at the station, dedicated to my then-sweetheart. Hearing that song again (finally on CD in this collection) brought back a tidal wave of memories for me, and this album will probably do the same for you. The only cut, in fact, missing from "Boats" here is 'Marathon Man,' a good cut, but this is easier to find than the "Boats" import CD (and cheaper too - as I've grown older, I've grown more economical.) Also, "Run Away" is as gripping a tale of young love and angst as you're likely to find. Just shows you what somebody with songwriting chops can do who doesn't have to rely on techno-beats or stealing other people's stuff. (Well, except for the classical piece he 'borrowed' for 'Never Gonna Fall In Love Again'...if you've never heard it, find it!)

Don't bother with the "non-import" best of stuff. This is the goods. The only reason this disc didn't get five stars from me is that they used the "edited" version of "All By Myself" (missing the terrific piano interlude). *sigh* Like the extra fifteen seconds was gonna make a huuuuge difference. Yeesh. Lazy record label!

If Eric Carmen's music meant anything to you at all "back then" or if it still does, don't hesitate to grab this disc.

5 out of 5 stars Champagne Music!.......2006-07-09

Thank goodness that these well filled CDs of selections from three of Offenbach's most entertaining and tuneful operettas are available. Exactly the thing to provide some hearty nourishment for Winter nights. Ideal also for a Summer barbecue. In both cases, a glass of champagne, or at least some other bubbly beverage, would be good to have at hand - everything here no doubt will call for a toast or several.

It is so nice to be able to hear in these translations the witty words, sung with welcome clarity and meaning by these admirable artists. As I recall, there were no microphones in sight, and perhaps not even used, when this production of Orpheus In The Underworld was brought to Australia, with a few cast changes but the same sparkle as shown here. Crisp diction and lively, often lovely, singing - a great recipe for enjoyable listening indeed.

The recording sounds a bit shrill here and there, but what a churlish quibble; to Hades with such curmudgeonly qualifications! This is music to raise the spirits, and not just those from Hades.

5 out of 5 stars A Calm Way to Enjoy Celin's Hits.......2005-07-08

This album has collected most of Celin's greatest hits and played them to the piano with a pleasant suggestion of the stringed instruments in the background. It would be more complete if Where Does My Heart Beat Now and I Drove All Night were also included. Nevertheless, the orchestration is awesome, and the music overall is very soothing. The tempo is slow and benefitial for studying or just relaxing. The tracks just melt into each other, and you find yourself filling the lyrics to the various songs as they play. This Cd is especially good if you are an enthusiastic fan of Celin Dion and classical music because the two concepts are blended in this album. And even if you are neither, the music is quite calming anyways.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Talent.......2007-02-17

This album is one that never gets old. My favorite track is "After The Love Has Lost Its Shine". They don't write songs like that anymore, strong and on point. Regina is one in a million.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect........2006-06-11

Released in the spring of 1987, Belle's debut album, "All By Myself", revealed a woman whose vocal style and timbre were unquestionably all her own.
Belle and pop-R&B producer Nick Martinelli gave singles such as "Show Me the Way" and " So Many Tears" the kind of warm, subtle interpretation that has since become Belle's trademark.
Another gem is the song " After The Love Has Lost Its Shine",which every time you'll play it,will give you very strong emotions and send shivers up to your spine.
An essential purchase for all Soul/Jazz lovers!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut by Regina Belle!.......2005-08-21

I love this cd by Regina Belle. It includes my favorite Regina song of all time "After the love has lost its shine", Wow! When I heard this song back in 1988, It blew me away! What an incredible voice!

After that moment,I knew I was going to follow her music career and I did!

This is a great debut by the inspiring voice of Regina Belle. I gave it 4 stars, because my favorite albums by her are: Stay with me and Baby come to me: The best of RB.

5 out of 5 stars Simply amazing !.......2005-06-08

If you love great music, you cannot miss this one.
Fantastic songs,seductive beats,memorable,stunning vocals.
Exceptional.
Period.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth, sexy and seductive jazzy soul at its best........2004-07-11

I bought this album shortly after it was released in 1987 and it remains among my favorite R&B albums ever. Although both "So Many Tears" and "Show Me The Way" were its hit singles, the songs that truly justify buying this CD are "Intimate Relations" and the mesmerizing "After The Love Has Lost Its Shine". If you buy just one Regina Belle CD, this should be the one.

5 out of 5 stars This CD will make you believe in music.......2005-02-04

I picked up this CD on a whim in the early 90's as a last minute purchase added to other CDs I was buying. I've been a fan since the early 80's & they never cease to amaze me. Although this is now an older CD I believe it is one of the King's Singers best. I'd put it right up there with Madrigal History Tour & Good Vibrations. This saucy sextet delivers the goods time & time again with perfect diction, phrasing & pitch. Take a listen & just lose yourself in the harmonys, you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best thing the King's singers have performed.......1999-08-16

I can have many chances to meet Albums the king's singers have performed. This 'Believe in Music' is not one of their best albums, but THE BEST of all their albums. I dont need to explain about this album with long and boring words. Just say "The Best"!.

This single is good. And this girl can SANG..not sing but SANG...Its ashame her label didnt promote her the way the should've.With a talent like this and these songs are great she should've went further than this.I only heard of this song because i caught it on BET one day.I neve rheard it on the radio or after that first time. What amkes me sad about it when i bough tthis single it wa son sale at the music store for 49 cents!!!!When i went to pay for it, it rung up as only 1 cent.I PAYED A PENNY FOR HER CD!!!It shoulda costed more than that. The lead song on here is great it has that poppy. soulful feel to it.IT shoulda been radio friendly. The other two are classic and great ."Every Part Of Me" she sang very well and it should be a single. "All By Myself" is a song she sang on Americal Idol and of course we all know that one.People go buy it ,this is a good single and i havent even heard the album yet.Trust me i am going to buy it and youll see my review in a bit....

Latoya's voice is so wonderful, I hope the full CD, Love & Life is better. I was not aware there were only 3 songs on this CD. I think she should have been the "Idol" but America didn't see it that way. She is so good on love songs and ballads, this is her true gift. She has the ability to let us dream, when she sings the good stuff. I wish her all the luck in the world. She is lovely and so gifted.

4 out of 5 stars The Real American Idol.......2005-10-27

I have been anxiously awaiting Latoya London's debut album and I have not been disappointed. On American Idol, she demonstrated a range of styles and vocal abilities that was by far the best of the bunch. However, American Idol is a popularity contest so...

If you are looking for good R&B music then you've found it! Latoya does not disappoint. "How I love the Rain" is my favorite.

      I love the album!

4 out of 5 stars A fine taste of what's to come from this woman........2005-10-04

All I can say is that this CD is awesome. I adore the lyrical content on this song and it's nothing but a breath of fresh air for female R&B. Just in time when a lot of female-driven songs were about nothing but "he done me wrong" and "I kicked him to the curb". This tune shows that women like her has nothin' but respect for the male species and knows that good men are in existence. Aside from the lyrical content, the music is on point and will either make you dance or nod your head. Give it a listen.

This CD is fantastic! No matter how many times I reply "All By Myself" I still get goosebumps! Am anxiously awaiting the full album release on September 20. We can't get enough of LaToya!
