Recorded as part of the 2000 Pure tour, Scarred marks Gary Numan's 25th year as a recording artist. He's certainly been through a lot since Tubeway Army put out That's Too Bad in 1978. Initially hailed as the king of electro, he fell spectacularly from grace then, years later, having been cited as an influence by everyone from Afrika Bambaataa to Trent Reznor, managed to claw his way back up the ladder. Like Pure, Scarred is heavier than Numan's early material; clattering drums, pounding dance beats, grinding samples, filthy guitar, and menacing bass lend it an industrial roar. But Numan isn't limited to an all-out attack. "Little Invitro" is fraught and delicate before rising to its grungy crescendo, while "Dance" is sweet and forlorn. Of course, the hits are here, too, though "Cars" is delivered so jauntily it loses its sense of melancholic isolation. But that's a minor disappointment given the otherwise high quality of this electro feast. --Dominic Wills

From her still in hollywood until the queens first solo with james at her side. I have lived my life with blonde . johnette is an amazing angel among us! live life baby and give us more!

bare bones... almost too real.
I love you Johnette... (long time fan).

5 out of 5 stars This CD is awesome.......2007-06-15

I have been a huge fan of all of Johnette's work for years. This album is defiantly not a disappointment. I would really would suggest this to anyone who likes music. It's very unique sounding but in the best way possible!

5 out of 5 stars Raw and open, surprising!!.......2007-06-10

Been a fan of the band Concrete Blonde and I've always checked out
their music over the years. I found this on Amazon and went to her website
to listen to the complete tracks and I've been really surprised at just
how amazing this collection is. The sound, vocals, writing all have
an edge you don't hear anymore so it stands out. Its different than
the Concrete Blonde days but you can't deny its got some great melodies
and off the wall vocal treaments and wide open raw lyrics. It rocks hard
in places and the acoustic guitar weaves its way around some great grooves. This is one of the best offerings this year so far and it would
be nice to see Johnette and these songs out on the road. so many favorites
but I do love the songs "My Diane", and the Coldplay cover "The Scientist",
"Amazing", the first single, & "Crazy Tonight", "Everthing for everyone".

5 out of 5 stars Scarred.......2007-06-07

An insanely amazing album. "Crazy Tonight" and "Everything For Everyone" are knockouts! Not that the other songs pale in comparison. It is one of the most satisfying albums I've come across in a long time. It's so honest, and raw, and real. Her voice alone is worth the money.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good but not comparable to the debut album.......2001-04-06

Rose Tattoo was a great band. In my opinion they just had one problem. Their debut album was an absolutely perfect rock and roll album. It was impossible to improve that one. So, if this is your first album from Rose Tattoo you probably will regard it as great. If you already know the album "Rock N Roll Outlaw" you will find this one dissapointing and boring.

5 out of 5 stars One of THE definnitive Skinhead albums.......2001-01-24

If you want to hear Skinhead rock at its most intense WITHOUT having to put up with racist statements (like the albums of Brutal Attack or Bound For Glory) than look no futher than Rose Tattoo's third album! Heavy AC/DC-esque rock with the embittered voice of Angry Anderson make a winning combination for everybody. Not just fans of Skinhead Oi. Other great non-racist Skinhead CDs worth sniffing out include "1989" by [Last] Resort and "Storming To Power" by Condemned 84.

5 out of 5 stars Final Part of The Classic Tatts Trilogy.......2000-06-04

This was Rose Tattoo's 3rd release and formed the third part of the classic trilogy of albums they released between 1978 and 1982 - all produced by Harry Vanda & George Young - the team behind AC/DC's rise to greatness.

This album was probably The Tatt's most innovative work, but paradoxically, also stayed closest to the bands' roots of the early Stones, Kinks and Chuck Berry.

It's got the huge wall of sound with clever hooks and searing vocals laid over the top by Angry Anderson but its probably a bit brighter and flashier than the preceeding works - but no less brutal in delivery. The title track lays the foundations first up with an opening axe attack that floors you. We Can't Be Beaten is truly anthemic and an unashamedly honest if you've ever seen this band live.

Of the remaining tracks, Branded and the thuggish Who's Got The Cash are the standouts. In short, the album kicks arse and in true Australian style does not bother with any of the niceties - it just rips, tears and lacerates or as we put it in Oz: it's got mongrel.

This was the last album before Rose Tattoo's classic line-up fell apart (even though Mick Cocks had already left by this stage) and represented the last of the classic Rose Tattoo sound as all other subsequent releases were commercially compromised (even though there are some good songs still to be found on these later albums).

Rose Tattoo should have been as huge as AC/DC but bad luck and internal troubles dogged the band just when they were breaking in the UK in 1981.

Ironically, their lack of success makes their early albums all the more treasurable.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy Metal in the 80s was heavy metal music at its best!.......2007-05-13

This is now a part of my 2,217 collection of albums & videos (and still counting).

Heavy Metal in the 80s was heavy metal music at its best! Scarred for Life by Obsession was one of the best metal albums for me during the 80s and up to now! along with Warrior - Fighting for the Earth, King Diamond -The Best of King Diamond, Mercyful Fate - The Best of Mercyful Fate, Accept - Metal Heart, Tobruk - Wild on the Run, Picture - Heavy Metal Ears, Riot - Live and Coney Hatch - Friction. These are underrated and overlooked albums that are worth collecting.

Back to Scarred for Life, the album title alone is a killer! It will break your skull and split your eardrums! Listen also to Bang `Em Till They Bleed, lots of guitar riffs by Art Maco and Bruce Vitale in this song. Mike Vescera on vocals was the right guy for metal assault vocals. Matt Karagus on bass and Jay Mezias on drums.

Now if you're on line with Amazon.com, place your order and you'll thank me later after hearing this album!

4 out of 5 stars 80s Indie/College Rock.......2005-06-22

Originally released on an Atlanta punk club's eponymous label--"688 Records"--drivin' n' cryin's debut record is a great example of college rock in the 1980s. While the aesthetic is similar to that of the Replacements, and the whole sounds as though recorded in someone's bathroom, Kinney's remarkably mature writing makes it essential listening for fans of the band or its leader nearly twenty years later. The top cuts include the title song, the punk thrash of "Keys to Me," the Garage/Folk/Psychedelia of "Another Scarlet Butterfly," and the blue-collar anthem, "Stand Up and Fight for It."

5 out of 5 stars Another Virtually Unknown American Band.......2002-03-13

Kevn Kinney creates a landmark 80's, American release. Beautifully crafted, furious tunes that grab you by the scruff of your neck and toss you right into the tumultuous, mid-80's pit of Americountry/Punk-n-roll. If you appreciate bands like The Replacements, X, or Camper Van Beethoven you have to obtain Scarred But Smarter without hesitation. Here's your chance to add an amazing release of yet another virtually unknown American band to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars their best cd that I've heard (I haven't heard ALL of them).......1999-11-07

There have been a few rock bands to come out of the Atlanta area over the years like The Black Crows, R.E.M., and stuff like that, but Drivin' N' Cryin' are definitely Atlanta's best in my opinion. Their sound is a little bit of a mix between alternative and maybe country rock. They're well known in Georgia, but I'm not sure how known they are in the rest of the country, so pick up this cd and give them a try! More than likely, you won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A good live document..........2005-04-26

Gary Numan has always been a rather enigmatic addition to the music community. His strange sci-fi-goth musical mix has pleased and offended the sensibilities of many throughout the years. With the release of "Pure" it seemed that the man was working on a level that he hadn't been for years and that it was possibly one of the few "comebacks" of the era that was going to stick. While the sales weren't much to crow about, the attention paid to Numan's new work by a select elite in the media more than justified his return and following live dates. It's undeniable...Gary Numan still manages to be relevant in his own quirky way.

"Scarred" captures (with fine production) Gary in front of a home-nation crowd performing well over an hour of his strongest material. Classic tracks like "Cars" and "Down in the Park" weave a rather dire mood next to lesser known classics such as "Pure" and "Me, I Disconnect From You". Gary's still got it...and while the record may be a bit of a chore at it's chosen length...no fan will go away dissapointed.

Let's hope that this isn't the typical one-off comeback record as Gary still seems to have some life in that strange techno-goth world of his. I fully support the purchase and this record and I think that all of those who also enjoy his work would as well.

Kudos...

5 out of 5 stars Smokin' Live Set from Gary Numan.......2004-04-29

I had the good fortune of seeing Gary Numan twice on his "Pure" world tour in 2000-01. I only recently found out that there was a live album from that tour, and immediately ordered it, sound unheard. I was not disappointed! Gary Numan's critically acclaimed 'comeback' album Pure cast him in a somewhat new daylight, with lots more guitars and even darker sounds than we were ever used from him.

"Scarred" (2 CDs, 21 tracks, 97 min.) brings the complete London Brixton Academy show from October 2000. The set starts off with a sizzling "Pure". While it is followed by the familiar "Me I Disconnect From You", the majority of the songs after that focus on the Pure album, with gems like "Rip", "I Can't Breathe", "Prayer for the Unborn" and "Listen To My Voice", but also a great "Angel Wars" (from the Exile album). "Down in the Park" is recast and sounds greater than ever, as is "Replicas" (check out that stomping intro!). The obligatory "Cars" is here of course, but it truly is not one of the better songs on here. Numan has moved on from "Cars" and he is (and we are) the better for it. The 'new' Gary Numan brings us an overall sound that's somewhere in between of NIN's industrial rock and Depeche Mode era-"Songs of Faith and Devotion" (another synth band that discovered guitars, but Numan brings yet more guitars), and it just works great. It's telling that the CD cover shows Numan with a guitar, as if to convery that this is not the same ol', same ol'.

I also have the 1979 "Living Ornaments" live album of Gary Numan, and both that album and "Scarred" show Gary Numan at his very best. If you can accept the fact that 21 years after "Living Ornaments" Numan is not just about "Cars", you are in for a treat. Strongly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Eagle flies high.......2004-04-21

You gotta bless companies like Eagle Records, ones that know what to offer customers willing to part with twenty bucks these days. Here we get lots of songs, extra videos and an attractive sleeve: reasons to make traditional purchases like this without feeling "ripped off."

This dazzling, majestic live album is Gary Numan at his best, playing old stuff, as well as new, and reminding the music world how to best coalesce guitars and drums with electronics.

Strong song-writing, well-produced live sounds and masterful showmanship make this one a must!

5 out of 5 stars Gary Numan, In the building where they make us grow........2003-07-16

Gary Numan has become a pioneer in the electronic world, influencing rocksters and Synthpopsters, EBM-sters and Industrialites. After having heard boring regular live album after boring live album, I purchased Scarred. It's perfect I tell you, perfect. The album is packed with so many treats that its incredible. The only thing lacking is the seemingly monotonous tonal structure, too industrialish, but at any rate it is filled by powerhouse songs like 'Metal' and the ever so wonderful 'Little Invitro' to make the air around you quiver with sorrow. I have not heard a live album better than this even though the vocals are a bit more present than what they should be. I say buy it now or get slapped.

5 out of 5 stars Mr Machine takes over London.......2003-07-14

This must be one of the best mixed live albums I've ever come across. Everything right so you can sit in the dark, crank up the volume and absorb yourself into the powerful wall of sound that Gary Numan projects these days. Pure brings the band on stage with a passion that is familiar with every Gary Numan show.Mixture of new songs and reworked old songs combined as if they were all written only yesterday. Gary shows no sign that he's been in the business for 25 years and sounds as fresh as ever.....Only real draw back is, lack of visual.....nevermind, well worth a repeat listen.....
