Get Some Go Again

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
With Get Some Go Again, everyone's favorite renaissance rocker redefines raw power and blinding intensity with tattooed muscle to spare. This album finds a tangibly rejuvenated Henry with a new Rollins Band lineup in tow, and Jim Wilson (guitar), Marcus Blake (bass), and Jason Mackenroth (drums) have inspired their firebrand vocalist to deliver his most feral work since Black Flag's glory days. From the explosive opening fusillade of "Illumination" to the Wayne Kramer-assisted, freeform fury of "L.A. Money Train," Get Some Go Again exudes purest energy. With Henry taking care of production there's no room for compromise--it's simply supercharged and brutally focused sonic aggression. Check out the blistering riff maelstrom of "Thinking Cap" or the overdriven romp through Thin Lizzy's "Are You Ready" (featuring the characteristic fret-board wizardry of the legendary ex-Lizzy guitar maestro Scott Gorham). Ultimately, this is an astonishing return to form, and the most essential Rollins recording to date. --Ian Fortnam

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

    Album Description

In 1998, Rollins was bandless and producing LA's Mother Superior. They got together, wrote lots of songs, and played a bunch of shows all over the world in 1999. In 2000 they released some of those tracks as the "Get Some Go Again" album. This double CD contains all the songs recorded during that period plus two live tracks from an LA Troubadour show. Wayne Kramer and Thin Lizzy's Scott Gorham make guest appearances. Enhancements include the "Get Some Go Again" video and an electronic press kit.

5 out of 5 stars Strong and Solid.......2000-10-05

I have a number of Rollins Band Albums that are great listening. This album however reeks of explosive power from Rollins and Mother Superior. I was floored when I first heard the album, and have listened to it countless times. I'm still floored. Rollins is a solid singer and person. All band members more than impress me with their playing, especially the drummer. The only weak point (in my opinion) is the guitar soloing. Its not bad soloing, but its hard for it to equal the rest of the music produced by this talented band. Thanks Henry.

4 out of 5 stars Rollins Band - 'Get Some Go Again' (Dreamworks).......2005-10-28

Henry Rollins returns with 'Get Some...' that features an all new band backing him, with Jim Wilson-guitar,Marcus Blake-bass and Jason Mackenroth-drums.Basically,just good underground alternative punk.A couple of guests on this CD are Thin Lizzy's guitarist Scott Gorham and former MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer.Tunes I liked best were "Love's So Heavy","I Go Day Glo","Let Yourself Down" and Thin Lizzy's "Are You Ready"(featuring Gorham).Very decent piece of work here,I thought.Just might appeal to fans of Primus,Melvins,Gone,Bad Brains and Faith No More.

          3 out of 5 stars smart punk.......2003-09-01

Nearing mid-life and showing no signs of cooling down, Henry Rollins - he of semi-truck tire neck, bulldog brows and philosophical comedy rants (oh, and former vocalist for hardcore punk vibratos Black Flag) - takes his aging with a steady dose of black back-to-basics, thanks to accompaniment from California punks Mother Superior (a wild bunch that includes old axe-swingers from Thin Lizzy and The MC5). Literaryily speaking, Rollins' saber-toothed righteousness is at full steam, chewing pitilessly through a host of mod social issues (macho stupidity, domestic violence, the failings of love, physical frailty, inner strength, er... scented candles?). But the thrash-a-millisecond verve of his past has been tightened to taut focus; crunching and heaving power rock as synchronized, menacing and purposeful as the approaching footsteps of a hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex. It's rockin' post-punk for aging fellers sans buffoonery, full of noncognito classic rock sturm and drang finessed with potent arena riffing as relentless as shellfire in a military target practice and scented with a sour spritz of Black Sabbath simplicity. Rarely does any of it sound remotely like anything else in the hard rock dungeon, that it is, it ignores all the trappings of mod-metal, qualifying GSGA as mindless jackhammering punk/metal at it's smartest.

5 out of 5 stars All aboard, y'all..........2003-06-04

          It's all been said already.
The Phoenix rises from the ashes, a new beginning etc.
          And it's all true.
When this album came out, some friends and I went to see the tour in Sydney. At the end of the show we were so blown away we agreed to see the band next time it toured. While touring Australia, the band announced 3 days later that they would do a second show in Sydney at the end of the tour before heading back overseas. Needless to say, we all went to the second show and it was just as good, if not better. Now, I wont repeat what's already been said here about Get Some Go Again, but there is something I wanted to mention that hasn't been covered here properly yet.

The last track, LA Money Train, is an absolute gem. A loose, funky, jazz-style jam by the band and guest guitarist Wayne Kramer with Henry half-talking, half-singing along. The story of the 'LA Money train' and what the denizens of LA will do to get on in order to achieve "fame and financial excess" is vintage Rollins at his scathing best. The track is about 15 minutes long and features some great work by all involved.

If the rest of the record was mediocre I would say that this track alone validates the purchase of this album, however there are simply no dud tracks on the entire CD and as such it's a sharp piece of work and a definite winner.

4 out of 5 stars Comeback album of the year.......2002-09-10

What a return to form! Rollins bounces back by teaming up with Mother Superior, who work extremely well with Rollins and he in turn seems much more inspired here than he had since "Lifetime". As inconsistant as Rollins Band recordings have been, it does one good to see the Man come back with a solid effort. Great songs, excellent playing, even a classic rant at the end that hits all the right targets, only one long snail paced dirge and a metallic sound that somehow sounds modern while at the same time being able to touch base with Thin Lizzy (whose "Are You Ready?" is covered here very nicely done).
This is great stuff (although still not "Lifetime") One would do well to seek out "Yellow Blues" from the 2.13.61 website, since this was intended as a double CD (as Nice would be as well) for the rest of the story and more top notch material (3/4 of "Yellow" is great stuff).
          Very highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars The Phoenix of Hardcore Resurrected- Hank Can't be Killed!.......2002-03-13

Rollins has lost many things before that didn't seem to slow him up any - record labels, his best friend, a bandmate or 2, but when the other members of the Rollins Band were let go it seemed that Hank's singing days were over. When he pulled the unlikely coup of adopting the hard rock trio 'Mother Superior', Rollins - the Band, breathed new life and out popped 'Get Some Go Again', his most consistent CD in years and one of the most fun to listen to.

The jazziness of the previous 2 Rollins Band records are understandably missing and in its place a more straight ahead hard rock approach that fits Rollins - the Man, much better. Rollins obviously has grown adept at leading the charge and the 'Mother Superior' boys wisely and comfortably fill in behind. Rollins doesn't have great range, but he does what he does well, and knows to stick with it. The new members don't lift the Band entirely out of its rut, but the lift is not insignificant. Standout tracks include the epic "Illumination", "I Go DayGlow", "Let Yourself Down","Hotter and Hotter" and the free flowing jam "LA Money Train" at the end.
          Highly recommended!

Get some, go again is the latest from Henry Rollins and marks the debut of RB mk III (Marcus Blake, Jason Mackenroth and Jim Wilson, i.e. Mother Superior). This album is a return to roots sort of adventure for Rollins as this release resonates with the sound and fury of good old ROCK! Sounding at points like a cross between Black Sabbath and Black Flag (with a little Thin Lizzy thrown in; even Scott Gorham), this CD is a real burner. The basic tracks are all good, in particular, Illumination, Thinking cap, Monster and Hotter and Hotter. The real treat is the extra-CD. Tracks like 100 miles really show off the fury and intensity with which Rollins can perform and the live cut of Action is superb. Finally, the DVD tracks are worth the extra bucks, as you get a video (never see it on MTV) and the electronic press kit. Go out and "Get some" today!
