3 out of 5 stars Horrible packaging!.......2007-04-17

First, I loved this album growing up, and for whatever reason, this was my favorite all time Olivia album cover. However, the packaging was a great disappointment not only for this CD, but all the Olivia Remastered CDs. Sure it comes with a booklet of lyrics and pictures from the original albums, but EVERY photo is so grainy that it looks absolutely amatueristic. This includes the front and back covers and the photos inside the booklet. I would have sworn they were booklet copies if I hadn't purchased them from Amazon directly.

5 out of 5 stars One of Livvy's best albums...ever.......2006-05-26

I'll get straight to the point and tell you why I love this album so much. Livvy's pure, untainted, heavenly and at times "raw" voice. This girl can really sing. Songs like Sail Into Tomorrow (what a lovely melody - John Farrar writes the prettiest tunes and is, in my opinion, one of our most underrated guitar players...ever), Clearly Love (I love the part when she goes - "I just don't know...'who'am I when you are you" - gives me goosebumps) and they said she was just another pretty face! Crying, Laughing, Lying, Loving (love the subtle layering of this arrangement with the different instruments talking to each other - just brilliant), Slow Down Jackson (love the jazzy feeling of this song, John, again, plays a really lovely guitar solo at the end and also the beautiful lyric - "love must have left you at my door" - I am assuming Jackson was knocking on Olivia's door with his paws!), Lovers (Olivia shines again in this song and they could've cleaned up her vocals when there were some emotional moments when you could actually 'hear' Olivia swallowing her saliva. But I am glad that they (the producer/producers) did not try to alter that. It showcased Olivia's vulnerability when she recorded that song. Another brilliant move.) Oh, gosh, I could go on and on and on how wonderful I think Olivia is. She just has a way of singing into your heart like no other. And she is...timeless.

4 out of 5 stars "Sail Into Tomorrow" proves ONJ can sing!.......2006-03-20

I have always liked Olivia Newton-John's music...but I used to think "If only someone who could really sing sang these songs...really belted it out...then they would be amazing" because I never appreciated the gentleness in her voice. But after listening to Track #5 "Sail Into Tomorrow", I gladly ate my words. WOW! What a sweet ballad that sends shivers up your spine the way Olivia really hits those high notes! This album is worth the price alone to own this one song that can be whipped out to dismiss any critic of ONJ's singing ability ever in the future! To think, this song was produced in the early 70s- way before "digital enhancement" techniques that vocoder singers voices and make them sound better and clearer. Olivia- you really can sing and I'm sorry for ever doubting you!

The rest of the tracks still stand out on this very pleasant album. "Something Better To Do" is a bit of a schmaltzy song you can imagine "Good Sandy" singing with innocent lyrics about birds singing and being home by 10PM! But John Farrar wrote it so you know it has a decent melody that you can whistle to. "Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying" is probably one of the rare song I can think of that just doesn't have a chorus! It is just a series of four verses...but it is incredibly catchy and has a great play-on-words with an easy-listening, mellow tune. "Let It Shine" is a perky, toe-tapping song that is probably the most "country" sounding song ONJ has ever done and that's not a bad thing! A solid track. "Just a Lot of Folk (The Marshmallow Song)" sounds bizarre when you read the title on paper before you ever hear the song, but it is a very cosy campfire song that ONJ articulates beautifully and puts a lot of emotion into it. The rest of the tracks are decent enough, but buy this album basically to appreciate the stunning "Sail Into Tomorrow"! Now!

5 out of 5 stars A brilliant album from 1975.......2003-04-07

Like other albums from Olivia around that time, Clearly love is full of top quality pop country music, although not everybody thought that back then. Perhaps to convince people that she really was a country girl, the pictures in the booklet show Olivia in a rural setting, usually in the company of a horse or a dog.

The set opens with the wistful Something better to do, which sets the standard for what follows. There are several other great ballads, including Lovers (a Mickey Newbury song) and Slow down Jackson. Let it shine, a bright, upbeat song, was the main single. There are also excellent covers of He ain't heavy he's my brother (Hollies), Summertime blues (Eddie Cochran) and He's my rock (I don't know the original artist, but it was later recorded by George Jones as She's my rock).

While this album does not contain any of Olivia's really big hits, it is a really lovely album that all fans of Olivia's early music will treasure.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Olivia---I CLEARLY LOVE this album!.......2003-03-13

Olivia churned out album after album through out the 70's, but Clearly love stands out with its simple catchy melodies and Olivia's pure voice. The songs on this album are great to sing along to and, while they all represent her 70's style, they do so by covering a wide range of genres, such as the jazzy, blues-like Something Better to Do, the optimistic anthem Let it Shine, the poppy Slow Down Jackson, and the emotional cover of He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. By far, the most moving performance on the album is the somber Just a Lot of Folk--this song displays her ability to filter emotions into lyrics. How many singers can take lyrics that include the word "marshmallow" and still move the listener to tears? On that note, however, I could have done without the cover of Summertime Blues. That being said...this album is CLEARLY one of her best---put it in on a rainy day and simply "Let it Shine."

Jaci Rae - Singer, Writer...Renaissance Woman Award Winning Singer, No. 1 Best Selling Author, Indie Crusader and Top Radio Show Host. No wonder they call her a renaissance woman! It would have been enough - more than enough - for anyone with a great voice and a dream. Win the Golden Music Awards "Female Vocalist of the Year"...earn the prestigious Levi Strauss award...garner a bunch of other industry awards...release some fantastic CDs as Jaci has and the average person could have died then with a great, big smile on their face. Jaci Rae is not your average person. Far from it, in fact. She is that rare woman in command of a range of creative skills, thoroughly able to impact the world with each one. A Singer...Like a River When Jaci started out in the music business, she was the greenest of greenies. An outsider's outsider. Faced with those kinds of impossible odds, the hopes of hundreds of thousands of other would-be singing stars have withered on the vine and died. It only made Jaci all the more determined. She had little idea how to launch her own singing career. There were, after all, no manuals on the subject. So she learned. Several years of trial and error later - of learning what made music execs and their unusual industry tick - yielded success. Great success in fact. To date, Jaci has achieved four number one singles on various stations across the country such as KOFI, KATX, KFTX and B105 to name a few, in her brand of heartfelt country...plus a top 15 spot on the ECMA charts in Europe. Her latest CD, Can't Push a River, is a critical and commercial success. Said DJ, Chris Allen, from Big Kat 98.9 in Minnesota: "There is so much heart and soul in Jaci's music! Incredible CD!" More praise followed. "This is a great CD. The first 2 songs are especially Terrific. All in all it's a great CD and should do well for her," said Grand Ole Opry Star, Ernie Ashworth. And from across the pond, Raymond Phillips from Country Harvest Radio in

I had never heard of Rosa Russ until a friend of mine gave me the CD. All I can say is "Wow!" Her music speaks to me in ways that's uncanny. Every track tells a story that I can relate to. She has that old school, soulful, sultry, sexy sound that's missing in today's R&B music. She has a beautiful voice that you can never get tired of. From "Beautiful Start" to "Clouds" (my favorite), to "Hold On" to last but not least, "Not Going Anywhere", Ms. Russ is definitely not going anywhere. She is here to stay and I look forward to her next project. If you miss original, unfooled around with, real music, then this is the CD to add to your collection.

            Peace and love...

I have waited a long time for a cd of this quality. Ms. Russ has a voice that needs to be heard. Her songs are not only soul provoking, they take you back to a time where music was actually music, not this cookie cutter stuff that clogs the airwaves today. Her versatility and true vocal ability is unmatched by few on the market today. The only thing better than this cd is actually hearing that angelic voice in person! The wonderful thing about great music is that it inspires all of us, and I thank you Rosa Russ for inspiring me and sharing your beautiful gift with us. I cannot wait until your next project. Don't sit on this one folks, if you love quality music, you will want this one!

I have had the privilege of seeing Marilyn Taylor live, and the sound of her voice on recording is every bit as expressive and entrancing as her face and acting in person.
One senses that Taylor's voice effortlessly negotiates Frazelle's music, which has the quality of folk music set in a classical genre. Taylor instinctively adopts the vernacular and inflection of the characters and makes a (refreshing) departure from traditional lines. As she said about these songs, "My voice sat down in this music. It kicked its shoes off and felt cold bare earth and said, `This is home.'" Taylor indeed brings this "classical" music home to the listener.
Taylor further shows her gifts for stylistic flexibility and interpretive nuance as she brings to life Vardell's and Ward's more traditional music. One can almost see the far off look in her eyes as she whispers love's memories. The strength in her mid-range makes her all the more qualified to communicate such tender poetry. A listener is wrapped around her finger as she sings these stories.

            5 out of 5 stars A Splendid Recording.......2003-08-06

RETURN: ART SONGS FROM NORTH CAROLINA is a splendid recording representing works by three well-respected composers long associated with the state of North Carolina and its musical heritage. Soprano, Marilyn Taylor, brings forth a renewing and highly musical interpretation to each work. Accompanied by first-rate pianist, Robert Brewer, Taylor sings with conviction, warmth, and sensitivity, placing herself and her voice in character for the work she is performing. This recording would serve as an excellent addition to any personal collection or music library.
