Bought it for "Lean". Got what I paid for........2006-05-13

I will admit, "Lean" is one of the most infectious songs I've heard in a while. The chorus gets in my head and I end up singing it all day - which isn't necessarily a bad thing. "Lean" is a very good song and the main reason I bought the disc in the first place. I was hoping "Lean" would be more of an indication of the album's overall strength. Unfortunately, it's not.

This does not mean that the rest of the disc is a flop, because it isn't. There are some quality tunes worth repeated listens (Anything Real, Brown, Resolve, etc.) It simply means that it starts off with the best song and goes downhill from there. I will give it this, there isn't much out there that I've heard just like it. I can't think of anybody Intangible might have "ripped off".

Interesting, not amazing.......2006-05-01

I believe the comparisons to AiC are somewhat valid but only in the vocal atmospherics. There are definitely some similarities between these harmonies and Cantrell/Staley's.

What it really reminds me of is the Meat Puppets sans mind-altering substances. It's chill, it's pretty, it's fluid. Someone said previously that the music feels unforced; I agree with that. It's mellow. The lyrics are more coherent than a song by the brothers Meat Puppet, but that is essentially what Intangible reminds me of.

It's a decent record but don't expect it to burn a hole in your iPod.

Great Music !.......2006-01-15

This is one of the very few CDs that I can leave in my car and listen to it for weeks at a clip and not tire of it. Every song is good here...standout tracks are Search, Release, Blame, Hollow, Those Around You, Lean, and Resolve. If you liked AIC's Jar of Flies and DOTN 1 you'll love this. This CD certainly draws from them, but is also orginal enough to stand on its own merit. Highly recommended...

I own roughly 1,500 CD's. I have all kinds of music, but mostly rock and metal from every genre. Every now and then a CD comes along that I can't get enough of and must share with as many of my friends as possible. I also love it when at first listen I think that it is just good, but then the more I listen, the more it grows on me to the point that I think it's great. That is just how this CD is for me. I can't get enough of it.

I also love it when there is not one bad song and I can just put it in and listen to it from start to finish, or just hit random every time I put it in. And I also love it when it's just fresh enough to be hard to compare it to somebody else. Again this CD fits the bill of everything I mentioned above. This is temporarily my new favorite CD.

I am going to try my best to describe who they sound like, but like my review title says, this is only my opinion. I'd say a little bit of Staind mixed with a little bit of Alice In Chains mixed with a little bit of Saigon Kick. This is very melodic rock with some great vocal harmonies that remind me of some of AIC vocals the way Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell sounded so great and unique together.

It's not quite as heavy as Staind or AIC for the most part but still a great modern melodic rock band. In fact, it's more along the lines of AIC's Jar Of Flies than any of their heavy stuff. Like I said, this is not a very heavy rocker, most of it is more along the mellow side but not so much to be considered an acoustic record.

To the new rockers: Don't worry, it does not sound like Saigon Kick. I just think I can hear a little bit of influence in there from them in certain places. I think most people woudn't even notice it or agree with me.

To the old rockers. I don't feel that it sounds too much like all the new stuff to turn you off of it. I feel that most of the new stuff sounds too much alike and I feel these guys have just enough of a fresh sound to seperate them from the rest.

A Very Moving CD.......2006-09-18

I love this CD! I've been listening to it to get my spirit ready for the high holy days and even shared the music with my cantor who wants to incorporate some of the melodies into our services. My favorites are V'Al Kulam and La Yehudim.

Inspiring.......2006-06-08

Craig's voice is so perfect on the tracks here. My personal favorite is V'Al Kulam, although Im Ain Ani Li certainly gets points for originality. Really uplifting songs and gorgeous melodies from start to finish. The back-up instrumentals ae uniformly strong. Altogether, a deeply powerful and moving album.

seriously. i wish they sampled the songs here... all you need is a few seconds. #5 and #11 is amazing... i've played the guitar for 10 years and i couldn't imagine playing a riff on this album.

Awesome, Upbeat, Fast Moving Album...WELL WORTH your time and money.......2006-02-01

I enjoy listening to quality acoustic guitar music and this album is by far one of the best on the market to date. Collins has the ability to fly through complicated chords and musical lines that would leave other artists with bruised, cramped fingers reaching for asprin. However, at the same time there is a depth and soul to his music that will immediately welcome you into his world as he quietly and unassumingly asks to be a part of yours.

The album starts off slow with "rediscover" as Collins showcases his ear for complex tones and eerie tunings. The pace quickens with "water under the river", one of my favorites. The rest of the CD follows a similar dance with tempo and pace; quick and upbeat to slower and melodic.

My other favorite is track 9 "on the way down", which has received the most repeat performances on my MP3 player. The song bounces back and forth and reminds me of an easy-going summer day; this one especially speaks to me of how great Collins is as a guitar player. He mixes a couple different musical styles; takes you right to the edge at one point and then returns you home, glad that he invited you along on this journey.

I first heard of Collins in November 2005 while poking around in the Music section on the website of the CD label, Selfless Records at http://www.selfless-records.org/ Check it out for a free download of one of songs on the CD. I am a huge fan of try before you buy.

Also, after digging around on the web, I found the artist's site at http://www.randycollinsmusic.com/ Collins has a couple other FREE songs available for download that you WON'T find on the CD. All are worth your time to check out.

If you are looking for a new, fresh musical style that will lift your spirits and keep you pressing the play button again and again, then Buy This CD! Enjoy!

Great Chants, Confusing Packaging.......2003-11-24

Like the previous reviewers, I agree that the music on this album is well done. But like the last reviewer, I find it confusing to discern what I am listening to at times. There are 21 tracks listed on the album, but only 15 register. However, the album clocks in at just over an hour(the album claims to be 58:11 minutes), so my guess is that all the tracks listed are on the album, but are recorded as 15 tracks. I would have gladly paid more for this album if it was packaged better, with lyrics and footnotes, and if it was clearer which track you are listening to. Maybe the original reviewer of this album has some insight into this album that she will share at some time. Other than that, a fine album of traditional Advent music that will assist you to slow down, and meditate on the Spirit of the Season of Advent in preparation for the Coming of Christmas.

CONFUSED!!!!.......2003-11-19

First of all Iam no writing a bad review, since I like the CD very much, however...there are some very MAJOR discrepacies with this recording. First there are onl 15 chants on the album, when there are supposed to be 21 chants. The numbers and track titles on the back of the case do not correspond with the actual chants that are recorded...for example...it says that the "Magnificat" is trak number 6 on the rear of the case, however its another chant all together. also Trcks 16-21 do not even appear on th CD itself, however according to the package there are 21 tracks....half of the chants that I bought this CD for on not even on it!

WHERE IS THE CHANT

Companion volume to Gregorian Christmas.......2000-09-03

Advent Gregorian Chants is a companion volume to Gregorian Christmas. The latter has a same descrepancy in who recorded these - the listing says: "Performed by Schola Hungarica Conducted by László Dobszay" while the cd itself simply says "Capella Gregoriana". This, too, is attributed to Capella Gregoriana but given the quality I suspect it also is Schola Hungarica. The recording has voices clearly used to chant with careful unisons that keeps the words understandable. Occasionally the high ranges of the women's voices as a fragility in sound I doubt is intentional but that is a small flaw.

The collection includes the "O" antiphons which introduce the Magnificat during the last bit of Advent. These antiphons are the basis of the carol "O come, o come Emmanuel".

This is definately an acceptable version of very traditional Advent music.
