Album Description
Neuropa is Australia's top modern synthpop act, combining catchy songs with top-notch vocals and synthetic instrumentation which makes use of both modern synthpop techniques and classic sounds (think Erasure).
Customer Reviews:
True Love Wars.......2007-04-14
I didn't think a newer band could pull off a remake of a/an Erasure's song.Neuropa did it and did it well.I love the chime-like sounds and the rythm of this song. There's others that deserve attention too and like Lifeline,Beyond Here and Now,and True Believer. All the songs on this cd is definately upbeat and worthwhile. If you ever collected Erasure's music and want to have someone new to listen to give Neuropa a shot.I have all of Neuropa's c.d.s except The Blitz and can say i'm never disappointed to listen to them over and over.
Great Album but unbalanced somehow........2006-02-25
Well, out of all the types of music that I generally collect, synthpop is my favorite. After Erasure and DM started to fizzle in their last few records, I started hunting for new groups to listen too. I live in America and I guess I feel like so much music at least here is very bland and one song sounds like the other. I guess I just like something different. This album just fits my tastes somehow.
"Bound" reminds me a bit of Red Flag but it is still an awsome fast-paced track. "True Love War's" was a great song and Neuropa did a great job of re-creating it. "Lifeline" somehow ended up becoming my favorite track on this album though. I love the bass and the catchyness of this song and it has a feel all it's own. This song just ends up on repeat somehow and is great to wake up to in the morning. Other favorites on this album are tracks 5-9. "Soul Mirror" is probably the darkest sounding song on the album and it is a great song about reflection and something that everyone can relate too.
I would have loved to have rated this a five star but it has only a couple of small faults. I felt that the album should have ended at Still Life. A great outro. I like a good album that somehow keeps a certain flow and feeling to it and I prefer a good short album over an album that feels drawn out. "In Need" simply doesn't flow with the rest of the album at all. "Beyond Here and Now" was an ok track and a good starting point for the album but it didn't stand out as much as the other tracks. I suppose the album could have also used something slower in-between the other faster tracks. Most of the tracks on this album are fast, upbeat tracks. Which is great, but I like an album that is more balanced. It just needed something slower-paced somewhere mid-album. Great album though and it holds it's own in my CD player!
Derivative and original at the same time? YES!.......2005-12-30
Look, I can't really explain this. It goes against all logic. Neuropa is Erasure reincarnated and something else completely in the same instant. You hear this and think ERASURE ERASURE ERASURE. Yet there is no Andy Bell, no Vince Clarke. You instinctively know that this is not Erasure. The connection is clear but in a transparent fashion. You hear it but you can't see it. You know it but without understanding. It is AND it is not.
So that doesn't help does it? Let it be put this way: If you love Erasure, you will love Neuropa. If you hate Erasure, you will hate Neuropa. For the lovers- you've heard this before but not like this!
sweet synth.......2005-10-22
One of the most melodic synth acts out there. This album is right in there with almost any erasure album.
A Polished Sound.......2003-02-28
This is the band's best CD to date! Neuropa has produced a CD filled with a polished sound of great songs in the genre of syth-pop music. Highlights on the CD are "Bound", "Lifeline", and "In Need". They also do a great cover version of Erasure's "True Love Wars".

Customer Reviews:
If You Love.......2007-04-14
If you love Dance Music similar, but not exact like groups of the 80's like Erasure,Cetu Javu,Celebrate the Nun,Vince Clarke, etc.then you'll fall in love with Neuropa. This band has great vocals and tunes you'll definately get hooked to and wanna dance.Mortality is a great intro song and the rest of the songs follow through until the end. It's also an excellent c.d.
very catchy music.......2005-10-31
If you like eresure omd pet shop boys. Im a die hard fan of that kind of music and this holds up.
like erasure and pet shop boys?.......2003-02-28
Basically this is a modern synthpop band that sounds like a mix between erasure and Pet shop boys. Now that these groups are hit and miss why not check this group out? think of it as paying 1.00 per song that sounds like erasure and PSB. If someone said pay one dollar for a song that sounds like classic DM from violator era, I wouldn't even skip a heart beat. The best song is Mortality, so download that song somewhere is you're reluctant. Neuropa does synthpop very well, combining melodies with catchy hooks. highly recomended.
analogic sounds and magic voices.......2003-02-28
this is the release of the first 2 albums of this australian synthpop band, long time expected. The tracks goes in the line of bands like Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Blue October... Can find disco influencies in tracks like 'Love Will Find A Way' and typical Erasure sounds in 'Waiting For A Sign', 'Rules To Break'(one of the best tracks I listened to in the last 2 years) or 'When Daylight Falls'. Highly recommended.
Excellent synthpop band!.......2003-02-26
First of all, I was VERY happy to find that they were re-releasing New Faith -- I missed out on it the first time it was released, and was very disappointed to find that it wasn't available anywhere. Too bad I already had Sins of the Heart (this release is the first two full length albums, sold together), but it was worth getting again to get that first album with it. I really like this band -- their music is really fun, upbeat synthpop. My favorites from these two albums are Regrets, Again, Edge of Now, When Daylight Falls, and Live High.

Wonderful set.......2007-01-12
Wonderful but to set matters straight the complete Command Performance 2 LP set is NOT on these 6 CDS ; it appears the entire 2nd LP is missing (songs by Arditi, Tosti, Bishop, Balfe and Wallace among others) and also the Pagliacci aria from LP 1 of the LP set is missing as well. The Command Performance set should be reissued.
FABULOUS Christmas album!.......2006-09-18
This is quite good. My favorites are "O Holy Night" (listen to that high c#!), "Twelve Days of Christmas", "O Divine Redeemer", and "Deck the Hall".
To "OPERAMAN!", the "Command Performance" is complete as part of "The Art of Joan Sutherland" box set. It is definitely worth buying; it contains some incredibly fresh singing of baroque arias on the first of 6 discs.
One of the Best Operatic Christmas Collections Available.......2005-09-19
Joan Sutherland's JOY TO THE WORLD, a Decca re-release that was recorded in the 1960's is one of the greatest operatic Christmas collections available. Sutherland is in her vocal glory and this collection has wonderful examples of her vocal talents. In my opinion, her "O Holy Night" is one of the greatest recordings of this carol available. Her feeling in "What Child is this?" is moving. She shows off her embellishments in "The Twelve Days of Christmas" (what prima donna does not do the same?) and she handles "O Divine Redeemer" beautifully. What I appreciate most about this collection is that it is not about Joan Sutherland. Sutherland, like her contemporaries Loentyne Price and Renata Tebaldi presents a beautiful collection of Christmas carols and musical gems that demonstrate her many gifts but allow the music to take center stage. The New Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Sutherland's husband Richard Bonynge accompanies Sutherland beautifully and the Ambrosian Singers add variety to the collection as well.
Buy this recording as a gift and you'll find the recipient will consider you a friend for life that is if you can resist parting with it.
Enjoy!
JUBILANT JOAN DOES CHRISTMAS!.......2004-11-18
A record reviewer once noted that they should play Joan Sutherland's Christmas album from the church belfries instead of ringing the chimes on Christmas morning. How true! The much used (now) Douglas Gamley orchestral arrangements are used here - syrupy and excessive to purists but absolutely gorgeous to me - and they go hand in glove with Dame Joan's glorious vocalism. Oh, sure, don't look for pristine diction here (this WAS an early record after all) but where else can you hear trills like this? Decca was right to reissue this one (and for the second time on CD). Now Decca, how about a COMPLETE reissue of the COMMAND PERFORMANCES on CD? That set is better than drugs!

Album Description
Australia's classy synthpop band Neuropa released two albums which have become hard-to-find collectables amoung fans of the contemporary synthpop/new wave scene. Now, this third release puts together new remixes, extended versions, and new material to spotlight all of their work and present their best side to the public in preparation for future albums.
Customer Reviews:
Neuropa = danceable synthpop!.......2003-02-27
"Alternate Faith - The Mixes" contains remixes of tracks from Neuropa's first two albums. I had the pleasure of seeing Neuropa perform in New York City a few years ago in a two night event sponsored by their label, A Different Drum. For me, Neuropa was one of the highlights of the show in a lineup that included label mates Iris, The Echoing Green, Cosmicity and B! Machine. I immediately purchased their "Sins of the Heart" CD and "Alternate Faith - The Mixes". Fans of Erasure and The Pet Shop Boys will love the synthpop programming and vocals on these songs. Think "Chorus" by Erasure meets "Behavior" by The Pet Shop Boys and you have Neuropa. Highlights of this collection include "Heaven's Descent (Earthbound Mix)", "When Daylight Falls (Extended Version)", "Rules to Break (United Mix)" and "Near To Me (Infinitely Closer Mix)".

Customer Reviews:
A must for Neuropa fans.......2006-07-16
I was only recently introduced to the music of Neuropa. In my search for new titles I came across this inexpensive maxi-single of "Bound" and am very glad that I did. In addition to the single, extended, and hotel n mix versions of "Bound," you get the two tracks that make this CD so special.
The Iris mix of "Bound", by Matt Morris (who has since left Iris), takes an already fine song and elevates it to another level entirely. The arrangement is superb and the intensity and emotional level of the song is raised accordingly.
And finally the excellent "After the Rain" completes the track selection. The song owes much to Depeche Mode, but is a fine melody and arrangement nonetheless. It has taken root in my head and will not leave.
For Neuropa fans I can't recommend this maxi-single enough - a real pleasure.
Excellent single!.......2003-02-26
This CD stands as one of my favorite synthpop singles. "Bound" is a good song to begin with, but Iris did an excellent remix of the song (I've not heard an Iris remix yet that I did not like). The Hotel N Mix gives the song a unique twist, and is very good as well. The extra song, "After the Rain, is one of my favorite Neuropa songs. I highly recommend this CD to any fan of synthpop.

Customer Reviews:
Great.......2002-05-11
John Denver's last concert in Australia is a must for all JD fans. It is John at his best, relating to his audience as only he could do.
A Wonder From Down Under.......2002-04-10
As many people have asserted, John Denver sounded best when heard live in concert. I think this compilation, Sing Australia, is a fine example of that. Recorded in 1994 this CD offers a wide variety of John's most well loved songs. On this CD there are many superior renditions of his work. "Rocky Mountain High," is accentuated with a warm rich synthesizer, and the reverence and the majesty of the mountains is reflected in his voice. The song "For You" is sung with a slow heart felt poignancy, while "Poems, Prayers and Promises" wraps you in a comforting melodic blanket that reminds everyone what the truly meaningful things in life are. A favorite song of mine, "Rhymes and Reasons" is offered in prayer-like fashion with a timeless message of hope for these troubled times; "come and stand beside us, we can find a better way." John usually ended his performances with "Calypso" and the version offered here will create for the listener an experiential taste of being there at one of John's concerts. From beginning to end this entire CD offers you a glimpse into the excitement and connection, the joy and serenity, that you would feel at a John Denver concert.
Great Performance, Poor Production.......2001-11-22
After listening to "The Wildlife Concert" and "An Evening with John Denver," one might guess that recording a live performance is a snap. It isn't, and regrettably this CD proves just how difficult it is. In this 1994 performance, John sings with passion and energy. The song selection is a good mix of his hits. However, the audio is muddy and "echoey," as though the recording engineer drew from the sound going out to the audience as opposed to using a direct feed. Buy this CD only if you are a) not very sensitive to sound quality b) Such a huge JD fan that you must own everything he did, or c) planning on listening to this CD only on that cheap player in your car.
Farewell, Australia.......2001-11-04
Australian fans of John Denver expected him to tour there in November of 1997. Tragically, the tour never happened and they had to be satisfied with his 1994 tour. If *Sing, Australia* is any indication, they had a wonderful experience. I almost didn't buy this CD because there's nothing on it I didn't already have, or so I thought. Then I realized I didn't have "Sweet Surrender" in John's mature voice. For that reason, alone, I purchased it. It was worth it. This version is so rich and full and vibrant. Everything on the album is sung exceptionally, of course, but I could do without yet another version of the tired old "Back Home Again" and the other usual suspects. "In a Faraway Land," though, makes up for the others.
It's definitely worth the money.
OK - If you're a fan who wants everything by JD.......2001-10-17
If you are looking for "live" John Denver, this is alright. Nothing to write home about. You'd be better off sticking to the re release of "An Evening With" or "The Wildlife Concert" or even "Greatest Hits Live." This is good, but I've heard better..all of the songs with a few exceptions have been released live one way or another. As good as this could have been, it feels like a soundboard mixing tape that was put to CD to take advantage of sales. You want a great "new" live recording, get his new Christmas Concert CD. Again, this one's OK, not great.
