Album Details

Be Bop Deluxe's Second Full Length Album. Nelson Sacked the Band after the Recording of the First Album "Axe Victim" and Enlisted a New Line-up (Including Long Lasting Member Simon Fox on Drums) for the Recording of Futurama in 1975. Production Duties were Handled by Roy Thomas Baker, Fresh from Success with the Early Queen Albums. The Sound Here is Much More Layered and Powerful Than the Debut, a Perfect Bed for Nelson's Incredibly Mellifluous Virtuoso Guitar Solos. "Futurama" is Mostly Guitar Driven and features the Hit Single "Maid in Heaven" and the FM Favorites "Music in Dreamland" and "Stage Whispers".

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Best !!.......2007-04-07

I have most of the Be Bop Deluxe material. Personaly speaking my favorite is the "Live" CD, but Im a musician and can appreciate the flawless performance that is the "Live" CD. Futurama is another excellent CD full of Very Good Songs. I dont buy a CD unless I know that Im going to enjoy most/all of the songs.(that means I buy my good stuff well after the release of the CD). All of the songs recorded by BeBop is recommended listening for the "Rock" fan. Bill Nelson is the "Best" guitarist Ive ever heard, and while singing lead vocals to boot !!! I have to admit that you probably really like BeBop, or dont care for them. For those that like, this CD is a must. For those that haven't heard, I recommend the "Live" CD. (Live in the Air Age).

5 out of 5 stars Simply their BEST.......2006-06-26

Having been a BeBOP fan since "Axe Fictim" ,I would agree "Futurama" is the band's most accomplished work.Great guitar songs abound, the stunning "Sister Seagull", the mellow acoustic "Jean Cocteau", the rocking "Maid in Heaven" ,"Swan Song"-awesome. I never tire hearing the stirring fade-out of Soundtrack. This album got knocked for being "over-produced" and Roy Thomas Baker can get outa hand(see Queen), but this record is a full realization of Bill Nelson's vision and remarkable song writing and guitar playing talents-A lost rock Masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars This guitar does not lie..........2005-04-26

After 'Axe Victim', Bill Nelson returns with a new band and new ideas based on dreams about his wife Jan. The result is probably the best Be Bop Deluxe release of their career. The songs are classic: Sister Seagull, Maid in heaven, Stage Whispers, Between the Worlds and Speed of the wind. These tracks have real staying power when other tracks from later releases were quickly forgotten. There are three bonus tracks with a total of 12 tracks. 'Futurama' is the best disc in the Be Bop Deluxe catalog. The booklet contains all the song lyrics as well as photos in this anniversary edition. EMI continues their high quality remastering with this title. Sound quality is superb. A must have for the serious fan. 12 tracks/45.49.

5 out of 5 stars Futurama . . . FINALLY !!!.......2005-04-20

Can't believe I'm actually listening to this. Again. Haven't heard this collection of songs since I was a teenager in the mid '70's (a great time to be a teenager, too ;-)

Enough nostalgia. Futurama is one of the most beautiful and poetic records *ever* made by anyone. Words cannot due it justice. It also rocks from beginning to end (not to mention the 3 bonus tracks which are a real treat).

Thank you, Bill Nelson, for making this music.

Science Park is the songwriting and recording vehicle for Myke Weiskopf. Futurama, Weiskopf's second album, is full of synthesizer and programmed bass and drum tracks and begs to be categorized as a synthpop-dance album. But don't be fooled--this is pure pop à la XTC and Squeeze, with its melodic, sing-along tunefulness, although it also makes a definite nod toward a more angular Soft Cell and Gary Numan style of new wave. With all the attendant bells, whistles, and sound affects on Futurama, Weiskopf's tasteful use of the studio environment is reminiscent of the early-'80s work of engineering wizard Thomas Dolby. A more swinging but otherwise carbon-copy cover of the Magnetic Fields' melancholic "Lonely Highway" reveals one of Weiskopf's more obscure influences and associates him with a vital, lo-fi pop underground. --Michael Wells

Album Description

Second album from Bostonian avant-synthpop project.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars perfect pop.......1999-10-19

this is possibly the best synthpop music i've ever heard. the fact that it was recorded by a 22 year old in his own space on his own terms only makes it infinately cooler. this one is a gem, and myke weiskopf truly deserves to be applauded. it reminds of the hypothetical turkeybaster baby of elvis costello, rufus wainwright, stephin merritt, and the pet shop boys. this album plays well even for those who aren't 'into' synthpop.

This is one of the musical epic poetory. All of the tracks composed within melodious and magnificient wave. Basically the sound on the techno and electoronica, but they are not artifical bad feeling. As I mentioned it like epic poetory, this album really in the natural and comfortable mode. Besides this, the words are also poetic and making rhyme rhythmically. Futurama is the one of the monumental achivement in the Japanese underground sound scene. I really wanted you to listen this greatest epic.

5 out of 5 stars Best Band Ever.......2004-11-11

I paid an exorbatant amount to have this CD and it was worth it. The melodic compositions are in line with the Eels, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins. Supercar has been rightfully dubbed a would-be British band, in line with the good, edgy qualities of their music. They have great melodies, are generally upbeat, and just so wonderfully awesome that I wonder what other Japanese music I could be missing out on. It is a very solid album, with only a few mediocre songs and no bad ones. As far as I can tell, it's their best album. They sing in Japanese and in English, though sometimes their accent is a little muddled and I cannot tell which language they are singing in. I have passed the album along to friends and they have loved it. Supercar's music is featured in the Japanese movie "Ping Pong," another cultural experience we should be importing into the West.

            5 out of 5 stars Great album!.......2003-08-01

If I had to make comparisons, I would compare this album to the works of Amon Tobin or the Boom Boom Satellites. Well worth the extra money spent on an import album. Light, upbeat electronica with whispery vocals.
