Customer Reviews:
A Great Collection of Live Epics.......2004-12-10
I wouldn't have called it an anthology (as they did on the cover) as it is basically a live album. This, however, is a great album for Yes fans who are familiar with the epic pieces from the studio albums and want the live versions. After having just seen Yes in Sydney (awesome concert) the live pieces on this album give that same energy and great musicianship.
Highlights of the album: "Close to the Edge", "Gates of Delerium" and "Awaken". Of interest are "Excerpts From Topographic Oceans" (a 9 minute live, solo, accoustic effort by Steve Howe with his own solo vocals), and "Owner of a Lonely Heart" featuring Steve Howe (Steve didn't play any Trevor Rabin pieces on the concert).
If you already have all the Yes studio albums then you will get another copy of 3 songs here.
Summary: Great album, along with: Fragile, Close to the Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans, Relayer & Going for the One.
A cool compilation.......2004-06-29
Well, I don't actually own this, but this is for the person who asked what this cd is all about. First off, remember that Yes can't control all the compilation/best ofs out there. Most of them are released through different record labels in different countries without the bands knowledge. And they are mostly geared for people who don't have access to their other albums (because they aren't available in those countries), so they get different best ofs. This is one of them. The cover is not by Roger Dean (he doesn't do computer graphics), but inspired by him. As for the song selection, it appears to be more of a fan's picks than a proper greatest hits. Having said all that, I don't think I need to pick this up, since I have all those songs already on the albums they were taken from. Now, if you don't have anything by Yes, then this isn't a bad place to start. There are better, such as the new Ultimate Yes, but this isn't bad. It just appears that this is mostly newer versions, taken from the Keys To Ascension, House Of Yes albums, as well as new studio tracks off of Magnification. As for saying this is why you go to napster, that's just silly. You don't have to buy every album out there. And why would a new best of make you want to download? This isn't even an American release. Amazon clearly states this is an import. Silly person. Download if you want, but don't blame the band for it, it's your decision, they have nothing to do with it.
