A great album... 4.66 stars. These three are helping to bring fusion into the next millennium. They play very well together. Tim Alexander is an amazing drummer. Manring also is a master. In fact I like his bass on this album more so than on At War with Self (which is also a great album). There are two reasons why I do not give it 5 stars... 1) It seems as if more time could have been spent composing the songs, rather than the project being a great jam session. 2)I would not have minded Alex showing off more so. A couple of times he settled for playing minimal sounds. Great music! Highly recommend!

what an album, complex arramgements, superb playing, this is what more instrumental music should sound like. These three musicians are tops in their respective fields of music and it all comes together in a marvelous way. Sit back with your favorite indulgance and enjoy. This is really a musicians album, after 2 or 3 listens you start to get what is really going on here and it is phenominal!!!! Jazzy rock fusion at it's absolute best. Trust me, this is something to behold!!!!!

This is an incredible display of musicianship on all levels. I like this album better than the first (although that one has it's moments too) because the material is a little more organized and planned out. This is a monster trio that takes Fusion to new frontiers. Don't be left behind - order it today...!

EXCELLENT! MUST HAVE IF U LOVE FRETLESS BASS!.......2003-03-01

I own more bass driven cds than you could fit in your closet!, and I'm telling you this one is a definate keeper! On many of the cd's I own, I have to hear through some serious "cheese", wether it be pitiful vocals, weak synthesizers, or horrid drum programming; just for the love of hearing incredible bass playing. HERE THAT IS NOT THE CASE! I can honestly say I enjoy this complete album in every aspect! The fretless tones throughout are some of the greatest tones I've ever heard,the drums sound crisp and tight(I'm huge on the drums too!) and the guitar work really mixes it all together.
Excellent work, instrumental-rock/fusion with a few helpings of funk. Monster ear candy folks!, and if you've wondered where that original butt kickin' drummer from Primus went, here's one place he's been.

Last words: Fretless bass tones are some of the sweetest sounds I've ever heard, and I've heard ALOT!

What a major disappointment ! ! !.......2002-11-11

Look elsewhere if you're searching for high quality fusion/progressive (go for any Niacin CD or Uncle Moe's Space Ranch with Garsed/Helmerich/Willis/Kinsey/Chambers for example). The music on this CD lacks badly of good ideas and it feels way to composed and structured overall. I really had high hopes on this one...... :(

"Nice Elevator Music"?!.......2001-04-24

I accidentally learned about this wonderful CD while browsing through Amazon.com.

Le Concert Impromptu & Rossini play Frank Zappa. From a classical perspective, they interpret a wide range of Zappa's work. They include 16 cuts and go back to ABSOLUTELY FREE where they present their interpretation of THE DUKE OF PRUNES. I've heard other classical presentations of THE DUKE OF PRUNES and am fond of their version. This is particularly interesting because Le Concert Impromptu employs NO percussion. They present THE DUKE OF PRUNES with a flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon, which seem contrary to the original message. However, the musicians do an excellent job. I found all the selections quite striking with a fine job of sound engineering.

As a side note, I was playing the CD on my office computer. A colleague entered my office and commented, "Nice elevator music." I had to laugh. As I reflected on my history of listening to Zappa, I could never imagine someone describing his work as elevator music.

I strongly recommend this CD to all Zappa fans.

These are wonderful arrangements, and the music on this CD is quite accessible - even my 5 year old daughter likes it. While you have to be a pretty devoted fan of experimental music to get into many of the tracks on 'The Yellow Shark', this one is a great way to introduce Serious Music People to the Frank Zappa we know and love.

Reccomended for all Zappa fans and chamber music types.

Stuck in a classical rut? This will get you moving in the right direction. Excellent arrangement and execution.

Old twist to newer sound. I like it, but prefer the original master himself.
