Say the words "change of sound" to a fan in regard to their favorite band's latest release and check for a reaction. In the case of the Suicide Machines, a lot of folks who enjoyed Destruction by Definition and Battle Hymns will likely use the s word when referring to the Detroit-based band's third effort: sellout. Instead of high-octane ska and punk, the Suicide Machines have ventured into Green Day-Blink 182 territory. The opening track "Sometimes I Don't Mind" (a salute to bassist Royce Nunley's dog) is inoffensive at worst, catchy as hell at best. When the band rears back and blasts out more gristle-laced heavings like "I Hate Everybody," it almost sounds forced. The band's future may be in sunshiny, upbeat power pop--the hooks on "Perfect Day" and "Too Many Words" are not for the jaded. This disc fits the cliché "short but sweet" perfectly. --Jason Josephes

Though the Suicide Machines are far more punk (and pop) than ska, they nonetheless manage to fit in some infectious ska rhythms. They're a Detroit quartet with piercings in all the right places (pretty much all over their faces), big baggy clothes, and a knack for writing fun-filled, power-packed ditties. They're also a hell of a lot of fun. At a Seattle gig (at Eckstein Middle School, of all places), they invited about half the crowd to join them on stage and performed the entire gig surrounded by (mostly) teenage boys skanking up a storm. Truly a spectacle to behold. Their debut record on the Hollywood label has much of that same wackiness. The songs are totally adrenalized, manic spasms of poppy punk, jazzed up with some deliriously danceable ska. The best line of the entire album comes in the fashion-tip-laden "The Vans Song", which advises, "Worship Jeff Spicoli, not Chris Cornell." Get the picture? --Adem Tepedelen

5 out of 5 stars THE Punk Ska Album of the 90's.......2007-01-10

I remember first listening to this album just as the 3rd wave ska craze came about in the mid 90's. Ten years later I caught them play for the last time in Cleveland, they still had that "energy". Countless albums, music genres, later it still remains one of my favorite records. Heres why: its got everything definitive of the ska/punk albums with none of the cheesy baggage. Good thumping basslines throughout which you can actually hear on without a good set of subs, tight horns, keyboards, furious drumming, and of course the upbeat ska guitar on most of the tracks.
Somewhat similar to: Operation Ivy, Rancid, might mighty bosstones. You wont go wrong here.

5 out of 5 stars RIP Suicide Machines.......2006-08-24

I am kicking myself for just now getting into this album. It has honestly been around me since it first came out, but I am just now realizing the brilliance within. I recently heard the title track off of their latest album, war profiteering..., and was amazed. It was it this time I decided to revisit the back catalog. Well in the process of a couple weeks I have discovered this album to be so much more than I ever imagined. As a previous reviewer stated they have such a great and seemless mix of straight ahead punk blended with ska, and the catchy choruses and great sing alongs that could have come from a classic Misfits album. It's almost like the greatest mix tape of punk ever made. If you enjoy anything from ska, to hardcore, to classic punk you have to give this late, great band your hard earned cash. Even if it takes awhile to absorb you will one day get it. I know I will be buying anything I can get my hands on, these guys will be remembered as legends.

4 out of 5 stars to me, all suicide machines albums are equal.......2006-08-08

well i see people saying this is their best all the time, but to me, i just cannot decide. they all have superb and amazing moments and others that just blend together. i havent listened to a single suicide machines album that i could listen to all the way through.(i have all except self titled) i mean yes, they are a great band and id definately say that they are an essential to any punk revival fan, but the thing is, is that they never had a cd that was 100% masterpiece..to me at least.

the songs break the glass, SOS, our time, hey, and no face all warrant an easy 4 star "great" rating! the rest, just couldnt grow on me...just yet at least...and ive had this for about a year and half now.

actually, this band really surprised me and put me in awe since i picked this album up on a closing clearance sale in a local cd store!

5 out of 5 stars TSM's first and best........2006-06-16

Let me begin by saying that The Suicide Machines were my favorite band, even though they broke up not too long ago. This, however, is not the album that turned me on to these guys. But it sure is one hell of a CD. Out of its 16 songs, I enjoy all of them thoroughly, because they are all different. Of course, this CD may just all be about teenagers having fun early in their career, but The Suicide Machines make great music out of it, not to mention the organ thrown in. I often try to highlight my favorites of the disc at hand, but this is another one of those cases where it would just be too difficult, every track is killer! Regardless of its genre, this is just music at its finest. So go out and get it, pop it in your stereo, and please your ears with the fun party of an album that it is. Thank you for your time.

5 out of 5 stars Remarkable sound - Crosses generations.......2006-02-08

I'm not as young as I used to be - Duh. But this CD came to me through a younger colleague who was into the punk scene. Most of the new punk music doesn't do anything for me. Most of it is too angry to be believable. But this CD blew me away.

Very creative sound. Changes tempo and styles with raw energy yet a subtle grace.

Some say the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are similar, but they can't compare to TSM.

5 out of 5 stars Another great band disproves the title 'sophomore slump'........2006-06-16

With their second album, The Sucide Machines take a much more punk type approach rather than the blended ska/punk/revival 3rd wave type of style on DBD. However, no complaints emerging from here. Also unlike "Destruction by Definition's" 'fun' idea of the CD, "Battle Hymns" gives me more of an 'in your face' vibe, which has been mentioned be for. Although the tracks on this disc may be short, they will keep you wanting more until you reach the end of the CD. Sadly, this is the band's last album with drummer, Derek Grant, who had a very exciting and blazing-fast touch ( he is now with the Alkaline Trio, hahahaha! ). Ryan, the new drummer, is almost too fundamental at times, not having what Derek brought to the table as a Suicide Machine. This would also be the bands last album, for a while anyway, with the ska/punk type of feel throughout. I, personally, still love the other albums, but some people seem to think the next two albums, the self-titled and "Steal this Record", are out of place. WARNING - when played loud this CD may result in broken windows. Thank you for your time.

3 out of 5 stars Punk+Ska aren't always a good combonation.......2003-05-31

Don't get me wrong, I mean I like this cd and all. In fact, it's probably one of my favorite Suicide Machines cd. But, I just don't think "ska-punk" is a good combo. Maybe it's just my opinion...Burn it from a friend or borrow/steal it or something. It's not really worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars An in-your-face, angry album, with a positive message........2003-02-14

This album is not for everyone. Each SM CD has been so different from the last, so, this one may not appeal to those who liked the self titled album (I didn't). However, this album exemplifies what punk rock SHOULD be, but isn't. While I may be alone in this, when I hear this CD, I am taken back 15 or so years. While, yes, this disk, has a very political message, it is one that is positive. The message is about unity and breaking down racial walls. Songs like "black and white world" or "hating hate" adequately send this message, and it's loud and clear to these ears.

5 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece from the gods of ska/punk.......2001-08-29

On this album, the Suicide Machines went political, with very positive results in my humble opinion. Most of the songs have very positive, intellgient political lyrics, which is a big plus for any album. On some tracks the Machines keep the sytle that everyone loves from Destruction by Definition. But then they go into fast, hard, balls-out punk rawk. Great stuff, especially when they blend the two different styles. My favorite tracks have got to be Pins and Needles, Someone, Black and White World, and DDT. But they are all great, fun, energetic ska-core songs, signature Suicide Machines. Most ska-punk or ska-core lovers will enjoy this album, as will a lot of political hardcore punks.

5 out of 5 stars Skacore! Jah!.......2001-07-13

I'm mostly a hardcore/metal fan, but this is one of the few punk/ska albums that I like. Its full of catchy rhythms and insightful lyrics. They'll have an upbeat ska rhythm one minute and completely change to a heavy, hardcore section with screaming and everything. 22 tracks, mostly around 1-2 minutes long (except for Punck and Jah) and all of them are a pleasure to listen to. My favorites are "Someone", "Confused" and "Black And White World". Buy this now.

4 out of 5 stars Ignorance!!!.......2006-05-08

I usually read reviews just to see how good an album is because you're only as good as the fan base you carry. But once in a while you run into reviews that just puzzle you. The best way to describe this cd however without any bull about sellout is diversifying. The Suicide machines have put out a cd where they show how versatile and talented they are as musicians and as long as they don't permanently change to this style, which they haven't, then this cd can be considered a great change of pace and a reccomended buy. I guess i can see how people could consider this kinda a more pop sound but for anyone who actually knows ska you'll realize this is more of an early 90's ska that lots of bands used to play like Cousin Oliver, Jeffries fan club, Less than jake etc. Bottom line is BUY THIS CD you wont be dissapointed and you can always buy there other cd's if you want to hear vintage suicide machines. O and here's a thought, a lot of times when your favorite bands try something different you don't like them but try thinking of it like this... if they were a completely new band you've never heard would you like there music? this'll help you get rid of any expectations you may have about that band and help you enjoy the different style they are playing

5 out of 5 stars Different but good.......2006-02-27

As has been said a hundred times already, this is about 180 degrees from what these guys had done previously. But that isn't a bad thing. This album falls more into the emo category than the punk/ska category. It is full of songs with catchy riffs and obvious lyrics. I personally like this CD more than their other releases. It is more Blink 182 and less Rancid. If you like the "sissy punk" stuff like Blink or Hidden in Plain View, then you will enjoy this.

3 out of 5 stars i like tsm.......2006-02-15

i like the tsm i have never heard this cd. but i listened to the clips and they suck.
but i just wanted to say to the person that said this

"Ska is a type of punk with reggae influences."

you are an idiot, ska came before reggae and reggae was influenced by ska, do some research

5 out of 5 stars Diversification.......2005-11-09

Allow me to preface this review by saying that tsm was my favorite band back when all I knew of them was Destruction by definition and Battle hymns, but this album did not change my feelings at all. This cd has proven that they can do almost any style they want to and do it well. In fact, next to destruction by definition this is my favorite cd, despite the lack of intense energy. Even though the band's style has changed for the time being, I don't know if they would be as solid a band if they never changed at all, and the fact that they made the change so well only speaks highly of their abilities. Maybe in the future they'll bring back some of the old elements they had, but whatever they do, they'll always retain that same suicide machines quality that's so indescribably awesome. Besides, this album is simply amazing to chill with.

4 out of 5 stars TSMs show they can play just about anything........2005-06-14

While it may not be legendary, as most of the other Suicide Machines albums are to me, it sure proves to a lot of people that The Suicide Machines aren't just a bunch of working class kids from Detroit that whine and complain about today's politics with heavy music. This is the defining point in every band's career, where they show if they will be successful, or just jump into the mainstream pile like so many other bands do. This quartet wanted to show everybody that they can write and play more than what they are known for, and I think they do it very well on this album. My favorites include :

2. Permanent Holiday - An up-beat thriller that is just a quick, great song.
3. The Fade Away - This track slows things down a bit. I'd have to say my favorite part of this one is the bridge.
8. I Hate Everything - Almost sounding a little rap-core on this one, such as P.O.D. or Linkin Park, The Suicide Machines will have you punching holes in walls with 'I Hate Everything'.
12. Reasons - TSMs go back to their roots with this track. It may be short, but it sounds like it just came off "Battle Hymns". My personal favorite.
14. I Never Promised You A Rose Garden - A remake of a droopy, slow classic. The cut time in this track is really what makes it sound full.

Altough it came at kind of a bad point in their career, considering that a band's third album is its defining line, it's still music to my ears. And while it may not be for everyone, I'm a big fan of this CD, and if you like the Suicide Machines, you should really consider it. Thank you for your time.

4 out of 5 stars The Last Creative Suicide Machines Album.......2006-09-27

Let me just start out by saying that I've been a huge Suicide Machines fan since Destruction first came out in '96 I think it was. On their fourth release here, it is starting to become obvious that they are losing their creative edge; not completely though. There are 4 or 5 really good songs on the cd but the rest are mainly mediocre.

Once A Match and Some Gasoline came out it became obvious that they were trying to please the fans by reverting to their old ska/punk roots but they failed miserably. None of those songs could hold a candle to even the worst song on Destruction; and War Profiteering was just an embarrasement. They sounded like they were trying to be hardcore to relate to the younger crowd which by now, are the only fans they have left. Anyway, I'm not writing this to rag on them; it's just disappointing that this is their last album that I can enjoy at all.

4 out of 5 stars great album! probally gets the most playtime of all my SM albums!.......2006-08-10

destruction by definition was my first SM album...i played it so much until i bought war profiteering and pretty much got equal play...and then went on to buy battle hymns, this one, and match and gasoline.

long after the other albums grow old and are reduced to sitting around in boxes with other cds i haven't listened to in a while, this one keeps me coming back for more. this was released in 2001...a time when most punk/ska bands were turning ultra poppy and selling out and what not. this one is a great one to build the bridge between the overly poppy self titled cd and the return to form, a match some gasoline.

yeah, nows its out of print. sad since this one is their most diverse by far.

4 out of 5 stars You do know it exists right? ( 4.5 stars ).......2006-06-16

It seems as if nobody knows about this album. That's a shame, because this CD has the biggest selection of diverse music by the Suicide Machines. It starts out with "The Killing Blow" and the title track, which have sort of an epic feel. It then moves on to "Honor among Thieves" and "It's the End of the World as we Know It ( And I Feel Fine )" which are more alternative rock. "Bleeding Heart" and "The Air we Breathe" could probably be described as light grunge/punk. The next three track, "Stand Up", "Off the Cuff", and "Middle Way" all have their own individual vibes. Finally, the album ends with the last four tracks slowly fading off into "Leap of Faith" 's very last notes. Straight up, just get it, you will be listening to it for years to come. Thank you for your time.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2004-03-18

This CD kicks ass. No Ska. Here's a song by song description
1. The Killing Blow(10/10) Great opening song. Punk, Dark verses. Very catchy chorus
2. Steal This Record(8/10): This Song is hardcore/punk. Very fast, and screaming.
3. Honor Among Thieves(10/10) This is more like something you'd find on their s/t CD. Pop-punk, very catchy
4. It's the End of the World(9/10): Great cover of the REM classic.
5. Bleeding Heart(10/10): Catchy pop-punk like Honor Among Thieves
6. The Air we Breathe(10/10): More hardcore/punk. Not like Steal this Record
7. Stand Up(10/10): Cool Regae song
8. Off this Cliff(10/10): All screaming. Verses sound like a Blink riff combined with hardcore vocals.
9. Middle Way(10/10): Another catchy pop-punk song
10. Scars(10/10): catchy pop-punk
11. All My People(10/10): Pop-punk, very fast
12. Unbreakable(10/10): Starts off a little dark, then gets more pop punkish
13. Stay(10/10): More pop-punk
14. Leap of Faith(10/10): Sounds more like something a pop/rock band would make in the beginning, but it gets more pop-punk later

I hope this was helpful. I would highly reccomend this CD.

4 out of 5 stars A return to form.......2003-07-22

Whether you loved or hated the upbeat pop-punk of the Suicide Machines' 3rd release, all memory of the sunniness of that CD will fade from memory as soon as "Steal This Record" kicks in. The menacing opening chords of "The Killing Blow" removes any notions of these guys being sellouts and firmly re-establishes them as forerunners on the aggressive punk scene.

One of their more ideal albums, Steal This Record finds the Machines taking on the record industry ("Steal This Record,") capitalism ("The Air We Breathe,") and racism ("All My People.") They even do a fiery cover of R.E.M's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" and the result is enough to make any punk unashamed to shout "Leonard Bernstein!" without a trace of irony.

Strangely enough, in the midst of all this hostility, the album shines brightest when the tempo drops. The two best songs of all are the album-closing soul searcher "Leap Of Faith" and the socio-political reggae number "Stand Up," on which the Machines relate their views on everything from race relations to abortion.

So, steal this record if you want to, but keep in mind that this one is worth shelling out the dollars for.

The Suicide Machines are back with their sixth studio album. These are some of the heaviest, loudest, and most politically charged songs that the Detroit four piece has ever recorded. Produced by Bill Stevenson (Black Flag, Descendents, Rise Against).

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars great at first, but slowly loses effect.......2006-10-12

i own all of the SM albums except the self-titled, and i must say that this one grows oldest the fast out of all of those albums i own. obviously, destruction by definition and battle hymns do the ska-core thing much better. steal this record was more of an experimental album, slower and breath of fresh air..match and some gasoline was a great hardcore album with dashes of ska, but this one is best described as a watered down version of the previous album save for a few gems(capitalist suicide and like 3 others at most)...or maybe ska and screaming just dont sound as good as they used to. anyways, theres much better out there and unless you breath suicide machines, stick with their old stuff.

4 out of 5 stars GOOD, BUT NOT QUITE GREAT (BUT STILL PRETTY GOOD).......2006-07-07

Yeah yeah, it is a little suspicious that all of a sudden the Suicide Machines got hardcore, but I actually applaud them. This album will alienate any teeny boppers wanna be rudies who have been clinging to TSM since their self-entitled album. Really its refreshing to see a band flatly turn down pop-punk commercial success when they could have easily achieved it.

All in all this album is pretty good, but not exactly great. The very hardcore punk "War Profiteering" opens the album on a really good note. "Capitalist Suicide" up next is the best song on the album, really blends the hardcore punk and ska sound perfectly. The next two songs are great upbeat skaish songs, although I disapprove of the anti-drug message in "Junk". "17% 18 to 25" is a good song but the lyrics are a little confusing. The next two songs "Capsule" and "All Systems Fail" are more hardcore but not that great. "Red Flag" has some success jumping around from skaish to more hardcore sound as does "Nuclear Generators". "Bottomed Out" and "Hands Tied" are great lighter ska bits while "Revolution is on the clearance rack" and "I went on tour blah blah blah" are both wastes of time. The final Bonus Track is really incredible ska/spoken word masterpiece.

I liked this album a lot but I wish the lyrics were a bit more extreme or original. Really the political songs are like Anti-Flag, just spouting the Democrat's platform and preaching to the choir. What I mean is nothing on here is going to make you stop and think, and that sucks. Other than that, great buy.

4 out of 5 stars It is something new which is nice........2006-04-09

Ah, The Suicide Machines....

Well, this CD is unlike the rest of the them. If you were a fan from the start you will have noticed that with every single new CD they seem to get harder, more political, and faster. Destruction By Definition was the first CD which had a light ska/skate-punk thing going... then it got a bit deeper with Battle Hymns (Such tracks as Strike stick out in my mind), and now the next step is this.

Is this a good or bad thing? Personally, I love the new change. Just like the Bouncing Souls, The Suicide Machines are now a band which doesn't talk about girls, skateboards, and van sneakers anymore, instead they now talk about war and politics. While the lyrics are not the most brilliant or insightful political lyrics (They ain't no propagandhi) they do a pretty decent job, and have lyrics quite better then most punk rock records out these days.

Here is a look at each track quickly:
1. War Profiteering Is Killing Us All: Great starting track. Energitic quickness, with a great beat to it. 5/5

2. Capitalist Suicide: My favorite track on the CD. It is a slow down from the first track, but adds a light ska/punk tune with very catchy lyrics. The only problem with this song, like most, is that it is too short. 5/5

3. Ghosts On Sunset Blvd: Meh, a nice rock song, but nothing special. I think the chorus is over used as well... kind of bland. 2/5

4. Junk: Sounds quite long one of the old Suicide Machines happy tracks. Light ska beat breaks, with some energetic guitar parts. Nothing new, but old fans of the band will open up quickly to this track. 4/5.

5. 17% 18 To 25: I don't know about this song. Honestly, the guitar is grand, but the lyrics are blah and the chorus is over used once again. The end of the song is quite grand, but the start... ugh... It does have quite a bit of energy, but I think most people will just hit the skip button on this. 2/5

6. Capsule: Just like track number 5. Boring start, except the end leads into a ska/punk heavy political jumble. 1/5

7. All Systems Fail: Actually, I like this song. I am sure this would be the either "Love it or hate it" track of the CD. It is a typical punk song, has a... interesting chorus, and ends on a fast note. 3/5.

8. The Red Flag: I have no idea what they were trying here. When you first play this you think "Oh... lovely, a nice ska song!" but it quickly changes once again into a hardcore guitar break in it. The chorus is pretty catchy. It is hard to switch between "Yay! Ska!" to "FIGHT THE POWER DEATH METAL!" back and forth. Still pretty catchy though. 4/5.

9. Nuclear Generators: Pretty catchy, reminds me of old Suicide Machines songs. Sounds like something of which should have been of the Battle Hymns. You get the ska/punk classic thing working here. 4/5.

10. Bottomed Out: Once again, just like track nine, except more punk and less ska. It reminds you of the older work of which they had did, and delivers happy punk goodness. 3/5.

11. Rebellion Is On The Clearance Rack (And I Think I Like It): Mmm... well, this track is interesting. REPEAT THE CHORUS TEN THOUSAND TIMES!!!! I really didn't like this song, it is just kind of boring. 1/5.

12.Hands Tied: Something for the very old Suicide Machines fans. Reminds me of the A match and some Gasoline ska songs. The best ska song on this CD, if you like the lighter stuff you will love this. 5/5.

13. I Went On Tour For 10 Years... And All I Got Was This Lousy T-shirt: Oh look, it is Sublime! No wait, it is the Suicide Machines. Blah... this may be a biased review on this track, because I hate Sublime. The whole "Dark-ska-rock" moody thing is so bland and boring to me. The track is very slow, and very bland. 1/5.

14. 95% of the World is Third World: The prime political track on here. This is where those like I who love punk political rock will smile. Very catchy, and a decent combo of ska/punk. I like you will like it. 5/5.

4 out of 5 stars Good ass hXc Punk.......2006-02-16

I've listened to TSM since 2000, picked up DBD after 2 years of wanting it and it ruled. Next I got Battle Hyms, which also ruled. When I check out their newer albums online I was disapointed to see a good punk band go comercial (again). But they came back with A Match, would've bought it but I was broke. When War Profiteering came out I had to get it (thank god I had a job by then). Picked it up @ Rasputin with Exodus' Shovel Headed Kill Machine and Lamb of God's Killadelphia.

I may be a metal head but hXc Punk/ska is where I started. Black Flag, Minor Threaat, TSOL, and The DKs are still appart of my everyday listening. I can confidently say that this album is verry much Hardcore Punk with some Ska. If all punk bands were this heavy (or heavier) nowadays I'd be happy. Even so I know REAL punk will never make the Billboards, but this is still a kick ass album.

2 out of 5 stars Quite Suspicious.......2006-01-25

Suicide Machines have always been more of a ska band...thats not an opinion thats a fact...its weird how back in the day ska was pretty popular when Destruction by Definition came out...and now harder music is popular and then all of a sudden Suicide Machines came out with a harder album...its almost like selling out in my opinion..but thats not why I am writing this I am warning you kids to go listen to their stuff off this album because you may like it...personally I liked the lyrics hated the music...the song War Profiteering is Killing Us All is good and Red Flag was good but all in all if you like ska and you're looking for ska STAY AWAY FROM THIS ALBUM! go buy Destruction by Definition, thats an album you can shake your tailfeather to...this one is if you want to be a miserable negative angry kid...I know it seems pretty "punk" to be angry but its not the right thing to be thinking about...all in all this album is only good if you want harder music with political idealogical thinking about the war in Iraq and Bush...if you want some music to get you crunked up with still a little basic punk thinking music in it then I suggest Destruction by Definition...

5 out of 5 stars The Suicide Machines return to form........2005-06-14

With their 5th studio album, TSM return to their ska-core roots we all came to love them for. By all means, I'm not saying that the previous two albums were bad, because they showed great variety, but "A Match and Some Gasoline" was exactly what I expected out of The Suicide Machines at this point in their wonderful career. As all TSM CDs are, this is a very short album, so it is very easy to sit down and listen to it all together. The Suicide Machines still throw a little bit of experimental tracks on the album, such as "One more Time", whcih is really groovy and catchy, and "The Change", which sounds kind of poppy. However, this is mainly classic Suicide Machines, and I've been playing it ever since I bought it two years ago. Here are some of my favorite tracks on the CD :

1. Burning In The Aftermath - Very provocative lyrics, but even more provocative music. This song is probably the heaviest on the CD, but I love it. A great opener.
4. High Anxiety - A majorly catchy tune. This song will be stuck in your head for days. My favorite part about this song would have to be the bridge.
5. Your Silence - Not only my favorite song on the CD, but one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME. The introduction of this song is awesome, with Ryan banging on his toms, then the cymbals kick in with Dan. The drum break is pretty cool, along with the section where Jay screams at the top of his lungs, "The world is spinning out of control!!!"
8. One More Time - As i mentioned earlier, an experimental track, but it's one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard. It talks about child abuse, and how the nation is doing nothing about it.
9. Beat My Head Against The Wall - This song just may have you beating your head against the wall. The first time I heard this track I felt like going out and running 10 miles. A Non-stop, in-your-face trashing of a song.

So, if you were disappointed in the good old Suicide Machines because of the previous two albums, set aside your differences with your head and pick this one up. Simply put, it's great music, with a kick! Thank you for your time.

5 out of 5 stars Must Have CD!.......2005-04-24

The Machines have done it again; this CD rocks and if you don't own a copy you need to buy one. Easily one of the finest works by these Detroit, MI based rockers.

3 out of 5 stars A decent break from the ordinary.......2005-04-05

I am not one to listen to alot of punk rock, so it was definately something different when I decided to buy this CD, but their songs on Tony Hawk's Underground 2 had me hooked. I have to say, besides being really short, this album is really good. I love how unlike some bands, The Suicide Machines vary their songs from track to track so they all don't sound the same.

1.Burning in the Aftermath: A good opening song, one of the many fast and hard ones. 8/10
2.Did you ever get the Feeling of Dread?: Instantly fell in love with this song, it's so catchy and has amazing lyrics. 9/10
3.Keep it a Crime: Meh... not my favorite, it's so short and maybe actually a little too fast, since I have no idea what they're saying unless I have the lyrics next to me. 6/10
4.High Anxiety: The first song I heard on Tony Hawk's Underground 2, great melodic catchy punk song. 8/10
5.Your Silence: The other song I heard before I bought the CD, love the fast verses and the vocals are awesome. 9/10
6.The Change: Not a bad song, it's catchy, more on the punk side. I'm not sure why you'd wanna make a son about change, but whatever works for them. 7/10
7.Invisible Government: Probably my least favorite track, it's got the vocals but they sorta drag on until the chorus, which isn't that good either, plus the song's not even a minute long. 5/10
8.One More Time: I've heard this song called poppy alot, but to be it doesn't seem any more poppy than High Anxiety, I actually like it. 8/10
9.Beat my Head Against the Wall: AWESOME song, probably second best on the CD. 10/10
10.Seized Up: Best song on the CD, it stands out so much from the other tracks in my opinion, but it's still fast and catchy and Suicide Machines, an amazing track. 10/10
11.Split the Time: Pretty good song, faster but on the softer side, which is good because the CD wouldn't be too good if it had all screaming songs like 5 and 9. 7/10
12.Koleidascope: Not a bad song, nothing too special about it though, nothing to really stand out. 6/10
13.Politics of Humanity: A strange track, probably because it had the worst verses, but the best chorus, so it evens out in the end. It could have been alot better if they actually sang the verses instead of just... said them. 6/10
14.Acoustic Track: I love the bonus song, I've had times where I've listened to it three or four times, it's just so good. 9/10

So that's it, and since this is my first album from the band, I dunno how they've changed and what not, but I would reccomend the CD anyway to anyone who listens to punk or even people that don't, I mean this is my first punk CD, and I love it.

4 out of 5 stars Something Good For Everyone!.......2004-11-29

I'm a casual fan of the Suicide Machines. I have this album along with Battle Hyms but I'm going to get DBD as soon as possible. Battle Hyms is superior to this album but this cd is still great. Basically this cd is good if you like ska punk or hardcore. It is a great mix of different types of music but it is only about a half hour long, still a great album for anyone.

Burning In The Aftermath- surprising, punk at its best. 9/10
Did You Every Get The Feeling Of Dread- Great ska feel. 7/10
Keep It A Crime- Best lyrics ever!! This song is furius. 9/10
High Anxiety- The catchies song on the cd, a softer song. 6/10
Your Silence- Best on the album, Pumps you up really good! 10/10
The Change- A decent ska-pop song. 6/10
Invisible Goverment- Fast,Furios, and hardcore. Brilliant! 8/10
One More Time- Another pop song, doesn't fit the cd. 4/10
Beat My Head Against The Wall- Great vocals! Blew me away. 8/10
Seized Up- A long song but very good, more of a punk song. 7/10
Split The Time- I liked it but hard to describe. 6/10
Kaliedescope- 2nd best on the cd, punk and a cool feel. 10/10
Politics Of Humanity- Good way to rap up a great album! 8/10

There are no real bad songs on this album but when I listen to this some songs just don't feel like they fit in. A decent effert and I'm looking forward to buying more albums for the Suicide Machines.

5 out of 5 stars Good Stuff!.......2003-12-25

The Suicide Machines kick some major ass, but their last two cds were not too good. Not many cds can live up to ska-punk goodness of destruction by definition, but this is probably their second best cd. Battle Hymns was good, but on this cd, they come out with a new style they haven't really tried before: hardcore. Listen to Burning in the Aftermath and Your Silence to see what I mean. Probably the most notable change is that the ska is back! The cd mostly switches off between hardcore punk tracks like Beat My Head Against The Wall and ska tracks like Split The Time. The ska may not be as good as it was in the past, but it is still a relief to have it back. Pretty much everything here is good, but you wanna skip track #8. It blows. Other than that, slip on your skankin shoes, cause thats what you'll be doing when you listen to this album.

5 out of 5 stars The begining of the timeline..........2006-08-08

Ok, first off, I'm not a kid, but I don't have an account on here.

The Suicide Machines' On the Eve of Destruction is different than most of their other releases. It has a lot more punkier songs, like their newer efforts, and a little ska, which you could see on their older albums. It has different versions of some older songs put on Destruction By Definition (their best album by far), but most of it is from their older EPs, and unreleased stuff. The sound quality isn't that great, especially on the song 'Vans Dub' (the words are hardly able to be heard at all), but I like that, as it gives the feeling that the band is playing right in front of you.

As for when to get this, I would definitly say do not get this one first. Get DBD or Battle Hymns first. Overall, this is a great way to see how this great band started, and any Suicide Machines fan should not pass this up at all.
