Like its predecessors, Kenny G's latest album, Breathless, is a collection of tuneful, easy-listening instrumentals baited with a couple of pop-soul vocal numbers. This album is built on Kenny G's most obvious strengths: his knack for writing hummable pop hooks and his ability to play those radio-friendly melodies in a breathy, fluid style that invites the listener to lie back and relax. When it comes to background music that's slightly catchier and peppier than most new age music, Kenny G is a master of his genre. The titles of Kenny G's instrumentals on are a good clue to his approach: "Sentimental," "The Joy of Life," "Forever in Love" and "The Wedding Song." Sentimental, in the sense of simplifying life to a set of comfortable feelings, is a good adjective for Kenny G's music, for even his wordless instrumentals push the listener's warm glow buttons while ignoring anything more complicated. The saxophonist himself programmed many of the drum, bass and keyboard parts on Breathless, contributing to the sense that everything's running on autopilot. --Jeffrey Himes

3 out of 5 stars sweetness with a side of sultry.......2007-07-26

A delightful blend of the most soothing music you can buy - only problem - you need someone to share it with. What I'm trying to say is you need a loving companion to get to the heart of the matter - even if, even if, she doesn't love you anymore. So do it right and make sure you have company for the evening! Good luck and best wishes.

5 out of 5 stars My Wedding Music.......2007-07-12

I walked down the aisle to "Forever in Love" instead of the traditional wedding march and used many other songs on the "tape" at the time - I bought the Cd so we would have a better copy for our upcoming 12th anniversary - this collection will always be a treasured memory and timeless selections of wonderful romantic and peaceful music. Always treasured, Kenny G

This is trance muzak for those who don't care to hear anything remotely resembling creative art. If you need something to sleep to - highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Best Of The Weather Channel.......2006-08-02

I first heard this music on The Weather Channel, and it was one of the sole reasons I watched TWC almost religiously...AS A 10 YEAR OLD!

I found it at a neighbor's yard sale, thinking it was a cheap bargain, and the minute I popped it in, all the memories came back to me.

I'm not a fan of Kenny G, but I love this CD, particularly "End Of The Night," my favorite Kenny G track of all time.

3 out of 5 stars Eh.......2007-04-10

Madonna's 1990 album "I'm Breathless" is often considered her worst (for good and bad reasons), but there are a few gems on here. For example, "Now I'm Following You (Part 2)", which is a dancified version of the previous track. It's more than a little weird and VERY dated-sounding, but I like it. Other notable songs are "Hanky Panky", a somewhat bizarre song about spanking, and the obvious choice, "Vogue". However, the rest of the songs range from okay to just plain horrendous, particularly "I'm Going Bananas", in which Madonna sings in a high, nasal, Betty Boop-esque tone which is just painful to listen to.

My advice is to buy this only if you are a Maddy completist; if not, skip it.

4 out of 5 stars Madonna goes jazz!.......2006-10-04

One year after the 1989 release of LIKE A PRAYER,Madonna goes into the style of jazz with many of these tracks that were inspired by the Buena Vista film DICK TRACY,in which she co-starred with Warren Beatty. Beatty is the guy in the cover photo. The only Top 20 hits are VOGUE and the lounge jazz piece HANKY PANKY. VOGUE,ideal for nightclub play, became a part of THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION,released in November 1990. SOMETHING TO REMEMBER is not to be confused with a later recording of Madonna's of the same title(from 1995). The cover photo is a promotional photo for DT,theatrically released in June or July 1990. The other songs are great.

3 out of 5 stars Even the Best of Artists Makes Mistakes.......2006-09-22

Madonna has always been that kind of artist that never was afraid to try new things, she's done musicals, new wave dance, babyface ballads, so it's not really surprising that she decided to record an album with jazzy big band-pop. Credit for her for having the guts to do that, after releasing the fantastic "Like a Prayer" just one year prior most people would think that she'll continue following a trend that worked. But on top of her success miss Ciccone wanted to do someting completely diffrent (recording the soundtrack for the film Dick Tracy), unfortunately this task proved to be almighty ever for Madonna. While Madonna's voice was never the best, she's actually not as bad as you could have imagined and songs like the meliodic "Vogue" with the addictive house groove are truly fantastic, hence even jazzy "Hanky Panky" is decent and the ballad "Something To Remember", but the production is uneven and some songs just aren't top notch. "I'm Going Bananas" for example and "Cry Baby" that just isn't suited for a modern pop crowd even if Madonna put a great affort in it. Many songs tends to be be forgettable or just not good enough, "Vogue" however is among her all time best. Now, if you're a big Madonna fan, this album could be quite fun. You'll find one of your favorite singers swinging with the big bands and jazzy 40's music, but if you're looking for some good old pop music with catchy melodies and good hooks, look elsewhere. Having said that, "I'm Breathless" isn't the disaster some people want to make of it, but it isn't one of Madonna's most remarkable efforts.

5 out of 5 stars A unique, terrific addition to Madonna's body of work........2006-09-05

Lost among the hype and drama behind the "Dick Tracy" film, the tabloid fodder of the Warren Beatty affair, and Madonna's own self-generated hoopla, is this pretty terrific record.

"I'm Breathless" incorporates songs from the film as well as pastiches and novelties she created based on her "character" of Breathless Mahoney.

The thing you will notice first is a definite maturation of Madonna's singing ability. She had clearly been taking lessons, and she hits notes here with a stability and clarity she never managed before. In the album's opener, "He's A Man", it is clear she's trying to do something a bit different than what we have come to expect from Miss Ciccone.

With "Sooner or Later", she for the most part pulls off a great Broadway-like ballad (there are one or two wobbly notes). Having somebody like Stephen Sondheim helps out with some songs only hedges her bets at making a successful attempt in this arena.

Just so you remember who we're dealing with here, she follows up with "Hanky Panky", a bouncy, sassy, naughty barrel roll of a song...this would have NO place on any other Madonna record, buts fits just fine here.

The same goes for "I'm Going Bananas" and "Cry Baby." The former, a silly romp with exquisite Latin instruments and beats (although sung in an accent as if she's impersonating her housekeeper), the latter a Betty Boop retro piece with all the substance of whipped cream.

"Something To Remember" gives us a radio-friendly slow song, which actually sounds out of place on THIS record, but would probably be a highlight of any of her other subsequent ones.

"Back in Business" is an uptempo, show-bizzy, Broadway-ish lark.

"More" is a spectacular twist on Gershwin's "I Got Rhythm"...fans of Tin Pan Alley and Broadway shows will eat this one up.

"What Can You Lose" is a slow, minimalist duet with Mandy Patinkin. I'm a big Patinkin fan, so I'm biased, and she manages NOT to get blown out of the water here, so that's saying something.

"Now I'm Following You", parts 1 & 2...is a strange little creation. First of all, there's Warren Beatty "singing." It's kinda weird, but not totally awful. Then there's the tempo shift halfway through, which turns an old-fashioned ballad into a scratchy, hip-hop-ish dance song. Again, weird, but not totally awful. I actually like it, in the same way I like cherry Slurpees at 7-11. I probably shouldn't like 'em, but if I'm being honest, I really do.

And then there's "Vogue", a masterful dance track, a killer single. Paired with an iconic video and popularizing a club trend of the time, it arrived at a perfect time to be another monster hit...yet it's appearance here is strictly as an added track. It could have been on ANY Madonna record, but the majority of the rest of these songs could ONLY have been on "I'm Breathless".

This CD desperately needs remastering...but it still sounds as good as CDs from that era could possibly be, which is pretty darn fine.

A personal favorite of mine...but then again, there's the whole cherry Slurpee thing.

4 out of 5 stars The Captain rocks!.......2007-04-10

If you don't have the first album than by all means buy that now. If you like it, which you will, than you may consider buying the second and third. They all have a different feel and production but are all excellent in their own right. The first Captain Beyond album is one of the best hard rock albums ever made so check it out. Sufficiently Breathless is very, very good just not as hard as the first. Creative song writing and talented musicianship throughout. You won't be disapointed.

5 out of 5 stars A joy to hear.......2007-01-29

I purchased the first Captain Beyond Album when I was about 16 I guess.
At the time they did not have digital cd's and sometimes albums this old could be hard to find. When I was about 25 I found a japanese copy of this album in an import sale bin for @ 10.00. I was surprised because I had never seen another Captain Beyond album.
I still have this sam Japanese copy. I'm 39. I have kept this album all these years in mint condition for one reason. I's great! I think it's one of rock's best unknown moments. There's not a bad song on it. True it is different from the first one. But all in all I think it outways the first in creativety and even music ability. It is a fine work with fine playing. I would recomend this album to any fan of 70's acid rock.
It does have what you need and more.

4 out of 5 stars Ultra-luscent Magnetism !.......2006-03-22

A lot of fans dislike Sufficiently Breathless for the wrong reasons. Original drummer Bobby Caldwell is one of the most underrated drummers in rock. He had the chops of Ginger Baker and the precision of a metronome. When he quit after the first album, the band replaced him with a subpar drummer. Consequently, the second album sounded like what Disreali Gears would have sounded like if Ginger Baker had quit the Cream and been replaced by Nick Mason or Buddy Miles (not that they are incompetant drummers, merely unsuited to a high energy power trio). In late 1973, the original quartet reformed and toured, performing some of the Sufficiently Breathless material. With Caldwell back in the drummer's seat, the second album material really cooked (as evidenced on the excellent quality audience recorded bootleg It's Our Lives).
That said, the music on Sufficiently Breathless is, in some ways, better than that on the legendary first album, which was mostly a catalog of heavy rock riffs strung together into a sort of hard rock suite. The down side of this is that it has a certain sterile, mechanical, repititous quality to it, while the second album actually has songs on it. The band also spiced up it's sound with Latin rhythms and jazz, while maintaining it's psychedelic space rock theme. If you're a tie-dyed in the wool hippie, ya hadda love these guys for refusing to douse the incense and black light in the era of navel-gazing singer-songwriters and camp 50s nostalgia!
To clarify some misconceptions about this album, I read somewhere that the music was composed by Dorman, Rhino, and Evans, but Lee Dorman was given exclusive songwriting credit because Rhino and Evans were still in respective litigation with the managments of Iron Butterfly and Deep Purple. Also, I heard that Rod Evans quit the band in the midst of recording and had to be coaxed back into the studio to complete the album, which is why it's running time is so short.

4 out of 5 stars Should be judged on its own merits.......2005-11-11

I'm amazed by the people who were disappointed with this album because its not the same as the first one; they're usually the first to criticize a band for repeating themselves.

Anyway, this is not as proggy as their first album, but that doesn't mean its not one of the best albums of the early seventies. It does have a slight Santana quality to it, which considering the timeframe in which it was recorded, is not a bad thing. Where the debut album found these guys stretching themselves musically, showing off their prowess as musicians, with good results. This album is more a paen to the times; its a much more lyrical, song oriented album, showing off their writting abillity. And these guys had a keen ear for melody. Songs like 'Everything's Circle', 'Bright Blue Tango', 'Starglow Energy', and 'Sufficiently Breathless' are superbly written and beauitfully performed and were probably incredible heard live (if that ever happened, I don't know).

A vastly underappreciated album, even by fans of the band. Its a must have for classic rock fans who love those undiscovered gems. This album is an ode for just 'chillin out'.

1978 album for British progressive rock act.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars This is actually not bad at all.......2007-04-14

I have to confess that this 1978 album is not nearly as bad as people have made it out to be - (the reviews of the album on ProgArchives are particularly merciless and vicious). In fact, while Breathless may not necessarily present the band at their finest hour (especially in contrast with albums like The Snow Goose (1975) and Moonmadness (1976)), there is some good material to be found. Then again, Camel was no different from the other English prog bands active at the time and suffered from the same confusion with respect to what musical direction they were supposed to head in. Furthermore,(without naming names) Breathless is certainly no worse than other albums floating around in 1978.

The lineup at this point included Andrew Latimer (acoustic and electric guitars, Yamaha CS80/50, Vocals); Peter Bardens (electric piano, acoustic piano, synthesizers, Hammond organ, Vocals); Mel Collins (Flute, Saxophones); Richard Sinclair (Bass guitar, Vocals); Andy Ward (Drums, Percussion); and Dave Sinclair (Keyboards (uncredited)). In general the playing by all members is very good, with Andy Latimer contributing some fine playing. I have always been a fan of Richard Sinclair's vocals and bass playing, so his presence on the album works for me. Following this album, Peter and Richard left the band. Apparently Peter and Andy Latimer were having problems (creative differences), which precipitated his leaving the band, and he was replaced by two keyboardists for the Breathless tour including Dave Sinclair and Jan Schelhaas. For the I Can See Your House from Here album (1979), the two keyboardist approach was maintained, yet with Jan and ex-Happy the Man player Kit Watkins.

The tracks on the album range in length from 2'59" to 7'17". In general the music on Breathless is considerably different from previous albums and includes a greater percentage of mainstream styles, including a sizeable chunk of disco (Summer Lightning, You Make me Smile). The inclusion of Richard's whimsical Canterbury track `Down on the Farm", while entirely appropriate for a Caravan album, seems a bit out of place on a Camel album - although his vocal part is very interesting. Wing and a Prayer is not completely awful, and is actually just a very nice and well-written pop song, with great woodwind parts.

Although this may all sound very unappealing, there are however some nice "Camel-ish" pieces on the album that are actually very good including the highly melodic title track, the vigorous progger Echoes, the delicate Starlight Ride, another atmospheric/proggy track The Sleeper, and the synthesizer heavy and gloomy closing track Rainbow's End. I am of the opinion that the album is worth picking up just for those five tracks alone, albeit at a "used copy" price.

Well there you have it. While Breathless may not represent Camel at their finest hour, there is still some good material here. For those of you that are new to the band, start out with any of these albums: Camel (1973); Mirage (1974); The Snow Goose (1975); Moonmadness (1976); and Rain Dances (1977). Of these albums, The Snow Goose is a fan favorite (mine too).

5 out of 5 stars melodies all over it.......2007-04-14

Breathless is a bit different from the previous Camel albums. This one seems to be all about pretty vocal melodies, instead of instrumental jams. While I'd call myself more of a jam person, I would NEVER knock this album. The melodies are really good. "wing and a prayer" is a pleasant upbeat song that takes me back to my childhood, and "rainbow's end" is SUCH a sad song and great way to end the album. "down on the farm" is a great example of interesting and flawless vocal work. Great album overall. I love the album cover too. A closeup of a camel!

4 out of 5 stars Breathless Camel.......2007-01-21

Good Album, easy to listen to but not inconsequential, I have also the original LP...

4 out of 5 stars Come into the warmth.......2006-05-07

UK's Camel were contenders on the progressive scene, but had to take second place behind bands like Genesis, Jethro Tull and Yes in the popularity stakes. This doesn't mean their music is any way inferior - Camel simply lacked the sheer audacity of pretension and scale of ambition that made works such as Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Songs from the Wood or Close to the Edge set texts in the 70s progressive canon. Camel chose to plough their own furrow, offering up a smooth blend of - mainly instrumental - rock with jazzy and classical overtones. And herein lies the secret of their failure - Camel were happiest doing long, meandering pieces and suites, letting Andrew Latimer's eloquent guitar do the talking while Pete Bardens' dreamy keyboards filled in the gaps. This worked well on records like Snowgoose and Mirage, but record company only wanted to release records with real singing, so Camel had to start writing tunes with lyrics. Breathless was the result of this new direction. More singing, broader appeal. But Camel never sold out the way Genesis did, and were never interested in courting chart success or blagging a slot on Top of the Pops. Breathless therefore remains refreshingly uncommercial, with the towering 7-minute magnum opus Echoes (Latimer's guitar playing on fire here), the jaunty goings on Down on the Farm (with some lovely flute work from Mel Collins); the poppy, infectious You Make Me Smile (and it does); the funky, danceable Summer Lightning and the joyous opening salvo of Breathless - all wonderful stuff. There's even a lengthy jam, The Sleeper, that sounds like an outtake from Moonmadness, but still a highlight. There are some weaknesses - on Starlight Ride, there`s a dire cod-baroque twiddling (now you realise why punk rock came along), on Wing and a Prayer Andy Latimer's shortcomings as a lyricist rear their collective heads. The sleevework and packaging is poor (compare this to Moonmadness) and the liner notes are unispired. So, not a coherent album concept, then, but more of a treasure grove of goodies to sooth our tired ears. Although less meditative than Moonmadness, and while lacking the artistic coherency of that album, these are still some of Camel's best, warmest tunes to date.

5 out of 5 stars An extremely entertaining mix of pop and prog rock.......2006-03-20

This is a great CD. It isn't as exerimental as previous Camel albums in terms of creating new sound scapes or innovative melodies. But it is a very pleasing mix of prog rock, pop, jazz and even disco elements. This is so much better than pop music released by Yes in the 80's. Even thought this is a poppy album it has a strong Camel feeling that captures a listener immediately. There are some pearls that make this album essential for any Camel fan. I mean Echoes(Great melody and some jazz influences too), Sleeper(jazziest tune on the album) and Summer ligtning (Very danceable and has a great guitar solo too).

This album is so full of hooks. The rhythm section is tight and the album is very well played. Wing on a prayer almost makes me wanna sing. Breathless has one of the most beatifull melodies I have ever heard and a slow section in the middle separates it from a normal pop love song. I don't understand why so many people hate Down on the farm. I was so happy when I first heard it and this album, because I noticed that this band can change their style and not just make rip offs of past glories. You have to understand two facts. Camel was under pressure to make a hit album and they wanted to evolve and expand their musical influences. In my opinion Camel succeeded and made their most entertaining album ever.

Album Description

Comus' first album contains an imaginative if elusive brand of experimental folk-rock, with a tense and sometimes distressed vibe. At times, this straddles the border between folk-rock and the kind of songs you'd expect to be sung at a witches' brew fest, the haunting supernatural atmosphere enhanced by bursts of what sound like a theramin-like violin, hand drums, flute, oboe, ghostly female backup vocals, and detours into almost tribal rhythms.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars More People must rate this.......2007-07-22

This album is about 25 years ahead of its time if not more. In fact, I can't really think of any band that is really similar to Comus. Until today, I had no idea that Comus was from the early 1970s... I just knew that they made some bizarre and insane sounds.

First, album cover. Really cool looking. Buy the LP just so you can frame it and throw it on your wall, then stare at for about 20 minutes.

Next, put the record on. It sounds like nothing else. Insane acoustic music, with vocals that sometimes sound like Fairport Convention and sometimes sound like Devin Townsend. I can't really pick apart the lyrics, but apparently they are about insanity, rape, violence, and whatever else. Pretty crazy for a band of that time. No flower power folk here.

After that, the songs, well I don't know if I am going to call them songs... all blend together to form the album. Many songs go through so many changes that it seems as if they are different songs within the same track. So at the end of the day, the songs don't really matter, only the album does.

That is all. Buy this album and tell your friends and rich relatives to buy multiple copies.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best album of all time........2007-03-02

You owe it to yourself to buy this right away. It is a masterpiece, better than anything else in the 60s folk-rock music. If you like Fairport, Pentangle, Vashti, Spirogyra, or the ISB, you'll fall head over heels in love with this album.

4 out of 5 stars wonderfully strange folk-rock........2007-02-16

this album, recorded at the end of 1970, grows on me with each listen. avante-garde prog-folk-rock, call it what you will. at times when listening to this i imagined that this is what frank zappa (circa "hot rats") would have sounded like if he had made celtic folk-rock. acoustic guitars (6 & 12 string), electric guitar, slide guitar, bass, slide bass, violin, viola, flute, oboe, drums and other miscellaneous percussion all appear on this recording, creating plenty of moods, various degrees of noise, and a variety of texture. fans of "the incredible string band" should find much to love here. 3 bonus tracks from a 1971 EP are tacked on at the end, and that's good and fine, as well. all in all, a wonderfully strange recording that i recommend to the adventurous.

4 out of 5 stars Sue Raney Leaves Me "Breathless".......2005-07-28

While not greater familiar with Miss Raney and her voice over the last several years, I recently have heard a lot of her recordings on one of my cable TV channels. As a result I purchased "Breathless" and am well satisfied with the recording and the selections (tracks) on the CD,

Sincerely,
Gary J. Huhn

5 out of 5 stars This Girl Can Sing!.......2005-03-29

Truly Wonderful Album! I never knew of Sue Raney until just recently. She has such a great voice. This album is highly recommended! Did You Know that the song "Breezin' Along with the Breeze" Was from the movie "The Long,Long Trailer" With Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz? They both sang this song as they were breezin down the highway after buying the Trailer! When I heard Sue Raneys' version, I just knew I'd heard that song! It took about a week of thinking about it before it finally came to me. I grabbed my copy of the Long,Long Trailer and watched it and there it was! Just this one song makes the whole album worth buying all by itself, However, the rest of the album is wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars A Must For Songbird Devotees.......2004-08-30

Perfect voice. Perfect intonation. Masterful interpretation of lyrics. Impeccable musical taste. AND she swings! Buy everything by Sue Raney you can find! Then listen to the zillion-selling poseurs - you know who I mean - and marvel at how they are household words while Sue Raney is a cult artist at best. But then, if most Americans had taste and/or intelligence, Bush would never have made it past the 2000 primaries, would he?

5 out of 5 stars vocal perfection.......2003-03-11

Wow...I can't remember how I happened upon this disc, but this is one of the most enjoyable vocal jazz discs in my collection.

Many singers excel in one or two qualities, but Sue's got it all with perfect pitch, phrasing, placement and lots of range with perfect control.

The most recent session included here is from ca.1969, including a beautiful ballad of Bobby Troup, along with some great up-tempo pieces backed up by Shelley Manne. And as perfect as the voice was in 1961, it was pluperfect in 1969!

But what is the Voice like now? I wait, like Simeon, for the collaboration with Alan Broadbent.

5 out of 5 stars A pure delight!!.......2002-06-10

Thank you to the folks at Studio West for unearthing this marvelous collection of songs (mostly recorded in the early 1960's) by this lovely singer whose superb jazz-oriented vocal stylings are rarely heard on record these days.

I happen to own some of Ms. Raney's albums (including the three she made with Bob Florence), and I have always been amazed at her talent over the years. The liner notes are very informative also.

3 out of 5 stars Grandmother of Spoken Word.......2007-01-24

Wanda was hot in her day. With Black Ivory as her back up band on some pieces Wanda was fresh, new, calmly innovative with all the social, political and racial insight from a conscious African American woman who had lived through the uproar of the sixties. While some of her writing is cliche in "Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow" (as I eased out of the door like a thief in the night), other parts are wonderfully metaphorical. (I tucked my last bit of hope in my back pocket.) If only for historical recognition, this is a must buy for anyone involved in the Spoken Word movement. Her delivery is natural and conversational.

Personnel: Wanda Robinson (spoken vocals); Garry Langston (guitar); Steve Turner (flute, alto saxophone); Jim Wilson (trumpet); Julius Brockington (piano, organ, ARP synthesizer); Marcell Turner (bass, tambourine); Ralph Fisher (drums). Producer: Anthony S. Davis. Recorded at Accent Sound Studios, Baltimore, Maryland.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece for its genre!.......2003-12-04

This group has released several albums over the years. None of them come close to this gem released in 1991. If you are looking for an introduction to this group, this is the one to get. The tracks on the CD are dark, brooding, but melodic with actual song structure. On several of their other albums, the listener gets lost in mostly unstructured noise. This one will not disappoint!

    Album Description

The first single from the brand new third studio album by this sensational Irish pop quartet comprised of siblings Andrea (vocals), Caroline (drums), Sharon (violin) and Jim Corr (guitars, keyboards). The group has become a multiplatinum success all over the world in the nine years they've been together and their new record 'In Blue' (already available in Canada & due in September here in the States), should finally break them proper in the U.S. as it was produced by the legendary Mutt Lange (the man that broke Def Leppard in the '80s and helped sell millions & millions of his wife Shania Twain's albums in the '90s). 'Breathless' is backed here with two previously unreleased non-album tracks, 'Head In The Air' & 'Judy'. Trivia note: vocalist Andrea Corr had small acting roles in Alan Parker's hit 1991 musical comedy 'The Commitments' and his 1996 remake of 'Evita' with Madonna & Antonio Banderas; she also lent her singing talents to Frederick Du

    5 out of 5 stars A must Have.......2004-01-28

Besides that fact that i am madly in love with the song Breathless i think this is a must have single. The bonus tracks on this cd are heavenly. When you hear Head In The Air you'll feel as though your in a dream. Andrea has a voice of an angel and whether your a corr fan or not (or whether you like breathless or not) This is a must have! The bonus tracks make it all worth it.

5 out of 5 stars A CD single as should always be!.......2003-12-02

Even though I don't like the song "Breathless" and critized it several times, the other two sons made the single excellent so I rate it 5 stars and here is a shourt description of those special bonus-tracks:

Judy - a ballad sounding a bit like Hurt Before about a girl named Judy who has tragically fallen in love. By the way, did you know that The Corrs used to have a doggie whose name was Judy? I think that the songs was named after her;-)

Head In The Air - this song reminds me Give Me A Reason, but this doesn't matter. It is excellent. When I decide to go on a long, long way by car one day, I'll make a CD compilation and this song won't be missed for sure ;)

5 out of 5 stars The 5 Star Rating is For the B-Sides.......2003-05-29

The 2 B-sides on this single are 5 star brilliant. "Head in the Air" and "Judy" are everything a Corrs' songs should be--a wonderful melding of pop and traditional Irish influences. So, for those 2 songs you should buy the single.

By contrast, "Breathless" is a dreadful song that deserves zero stars. The lyrics are horrid and the music is a synthentic mess. How this song became popular I'll never know.

5 out of 5 stars Go On, Leave Me Breathless!.......2002-03-18

The single that introduced most of us here in the States to alternative quartet The Corrs was most likely "Breathless." It has one of those melodies that is simply irresistible! From the fresh and funky intro to the sweet and sassy lyrics, who could resist it?

Being a fan of this band for a very long time prior to that, I had high hopes that once and for all they would be able to make a lasting impression here.

With the release of "Give Me A Reason," I found myself bitterly disappointed as their fan base seemed to deminish as quickly as it had started, give or take a few die-hards here and there.

This single is so expressive, poetic and beautiful! Also included are the marvelous tracks "Judy" and "Head In The Air," both nice compliments to "Breathless."

While they might have fallen from the public eye (temporarily or otherwise), I would recommend owning this or at least their CDs Forgiven, Forgotten and In Blue (my two Corrs favorites). Regardless of your age, Irish lineage, or taste in music, I think you will find this CD-Single essential to your pop/rock/folk/alternative/world music (the list could go on) collection.
