Short, nippy, and to the point, "Beelzebub" was the first tune I wrote for my first album in 1977, and is given a new and acoustic lease of life here. "Beelzebub" (from the old Hebrew meaning Lord of the Flies, prince of the evil spirits, a form of the Devil) is particularly knotty to play, and Tim Garland’s bass clarinet gives it exactly the right colour – dark, brooding, and intense. Earthworks is a one-take sort of band, and we don’t worry too much about the sort of antiseptic cleanliness associated with too much Pro-Tooling. Four musicians played it in the same room at the same time, a novel idea indeed. And I’m thrilled to have it included alongside the efforts of other, infinitely more distinguished, players than I, on this rich and diverse CD, dedicated to the art of the drummer. - Bill Bruford

Awesome Drumming CD.......2005-01-20

It took me a while to pick this one up, but I'm glad I did. All of the tracks are worthy to be on this collection. There is a diverse grouping of drummers so the listener won't be dissapointed. Vets like Steve Smith, Simon Phillips, Rod Morganstein, Bill Bruford and Terry Bozzio all shine. Other drummers like Stanton Moore, Chad Wackerman, Josh Freese, etc. all have contributed great tracks as well. This is a great compilation, and I look forward to the next.

VOLUME 1, BRING ON VOLUME 2.......2004-08-31

Being a drummer, this little gem caught my eye a couple of weeks ago while out shopping. I spied it again a week later and just had to have it. Being familiar with over half of the 14 featured drummers, I figured I'd like at least half of this CD's 12 tracks. How wrong I was. Every time I listen to it I find a different cut that prompts me to hit replay. I can't wait for Volume 2.

From a drummers point of view..........2004-01-22

I found this on a fluke! I own a CD called burning for Buddy, which has a lot of these same players. The only exception is they are playing Buddy Rich charts with his orchestra. This disc contains original songs by these drummers with there own band. I'm 51 and grew up basically with Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich; great drummers in thier own right. But, I must say these drummers will and do blow Rich and Krupa away. A must for any drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
