Editorial Reviews
Most fans thought it would never happen. But Guy Evans, David Jackson, Hugh Banton and Peter Hammill have reunited as Van der Graaf Generator. This is not a nostalgic reunion to relive past glories, but a coming together of new experiences and fresh perspectives for the creation of new music as well as new live performances, the rebirth of a phoenix! During the studio sessions the muse was so generous that the result was 16 new Van der Graaf works spread out over a double CD. Present is being released by Virgin/EMI who have resurrected the Charisma label for the occasion. ''One CD consists of the songs/structured pieces which we consciously rehearsed - 'Every Bloody Emperor,' 'Boleas Panic,' 'Nutter Alert,' 'Abandon Ship!,' 'In Babelsberg' and 'On the Beach.' The second CD features an hour's worth of improvisations. These have always been a feature of Van der Graaf playing and are quite whacky.... I recommend taking these at about a half an hour at a time-it's really like being locked in the room with us.' - PH. EMI. 2005.

HIStory's 2 CDs (one hits, the other new) were Jackson's attempt to connect his glorious past to a dodgy present and--given it's commercial and artistic performance--cast a shadow on his future. Conceived as his formal coronation as the "King of Pop," HIStory's second disc instead presents Jackson as an epauletted, single-gloved Richard III. By turns paranoid, angry, bitter, sentimental, and, in one instance, possibly anti-Semitic, HIStory was less a collection of songs than a case history. A few tracks--mostly those produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--are sleek, modern pop/soul, but too much of HIStory has the overblown vacuousness of a musician who knows his time is past, but is unsure as to how to react to the situation. --Steven MirkinCustomer Reviews:

I liked They Don't Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow, Earth Song, You Are Not Alone, Come Together, and Little Susie. They are all excellent tracks and I enjoyed them greatly. Scream, This Time Around, History, 2 Bad, and Smile are all average songs acceptable as filler
D.S., Money, Childhood , and Tabloid Junkie are very much junk.
Please Michael we all know you need privacy and tabloids are not treating you right and you had a "bad" childhood. I am sick and tired of hearing these type of songs over and over which are similar to old ones. So please stop nagging and make unique music

This album mixes anger for injustice, racial equality, saving the planet and love. It is a truly wonderful album & Mike expands his musical abilities by producing the whole album and playing most of the instruments on the album.

Great New Songs!.......2006-06-25
-.......2006-04-16
I'll be over you is an example of a toto song with good vocal, lyric, music and barrels of emotion. I think this is a truly beautiful track and once you develop enough to listen to these songs for what they are (love songs in the truest sense - could be about your dead mum!) you will see that toto are a great band on the whole. This cd is 1990 so obviously it suffers a bit from the digital of then. Ironically the songs like Rosanna that loads who buy this seem to love are the kind that suffer most compared to the vinyl releases which is only a credit to what decent tracks they are. Ones like I'll be over you translate perfectly to cd and remain as beautiful on this cd as they are on the 45 12' single.
I mean really though, generic? Of all things you could call toto how could you call them generic. Do you listen to the musicianship. The human energy put into the keyboarding, the drumming by the least generic and possibly best drummer to ever walk the face of earth. Solo's by lukather? I think you should listen again.
My thoughts on this disc are that its not perfect no, it is `artistic' as an album is and not designed/may not satisfy `best of' customers/ fast forward happy listeners (that's maybe why it's not called best of- or greatest hits.
While understandably 'past to present' means greatest hits to a lot of you, to other's it means a `vision' of what's gone on. A reflection on toto `from back then till now'
Get the essential toto if you are hoping to find a personal fav track you aren't sure is here, or if you are one of those hungry people, you like big big cd's that contain lots of avenues. This is album art. I think it is a great start and a great cd I highly recommend to anybody.
Toto. Studioperfection to the smallest fingertip........2006-02-14
it a good listen. Track 2 Africa with it`s ethnical drum beat in the beginning, and the cool "low key" vocal set`s the standard for this 80 ths hit song from Toto. Overcool studioperction this one. Track 3 Hold the Line has it all, from the beginning with the hammering on the keyboard to the last drumbeat, it lift`s you up. One of the few tracks with "fuzz" on the guitar`s which makes a glimmer touch with a small breezee of "light heavy metal" for a change. Track 4 Out of Love, sorry to say is a let down. A big one too. When this Cd came out in 1990, this track was unrelased. This ballad is a stream of cliches. Anyway with Track 5 Georgy Porgy we are back in business again with this funky song, with fresh rythmic drum beat for a change. Track 6 I`ll be over you is a nice ballad for but has much of the same problems that Track 4 has, some boring perfection elements that drag`s it down, but other wise fine.
Track 6. Can you hear what i`m saying is also a previously unreleased track, but this one shine`s for a change. It` has a certain "jazzy funk rock rythm "beat which lift`s it up. Track 8 Rosanna is a classic. Classic Toto at his best. It`s a well composed gem, which shines on every beat. Track 9 I wont hold you back is anyway a stream of cliches, when it comes to ballad sing/song writing. It`s slow ok,but this is to much "sugar cake" to spark a shimmer. Track 10 Stop Loving You, has a great instrumental synth beginning, but then it`s suddenly change`s into an ok funky beat song, with some great instrumental elements included. Track 11 99, is an early ok funky song, which sparks here and there, but it`s easily forgotten. Track 12 Pamela is a likeable song which hold`s the standard, execpt for the overkilled synth sound from the 80 ths which pop`s up here and there. Track 13 Animal is total out of t line. This sound`s like poor man`s "disco funk". The theme goes around and around, and doesn`t kick off. But anyway. Toto shines most of the time and is a great introduction to the band for beginners. Toto is anyway studioperfection to the smallest fingertip, either you like it or not.

"The innocence of my life releases the God I love everywhere." These are the words of Rumi, 13th-century poet and founder of the Whirling Dervishes of Sufism, as spoken by the mature and melodious voice of Rosa Parks. Her voice, American history, those words, intense longing: Power. In celebration of the human spirit, The Gift of Love is a recitation of the love poems of Rumi by Dr. Chopra and celebrity friends, including Madonna, Goldie Hawn, and Robert A.F. Thurman. Sensual Middle Eastern-influenced music backs the reading and provides breaks between sections such as "Love Drunk" and "The Light of Love." The Gift of Love is sincere and potent stuff, unafraid of the deep physical, spiritual, and mental hunger that Rumi's words not only taste, but roll about the tongue and swallow whole. --Paige La GroneCustomer Reviews:

This time though, a wonderful email suggested that I should look for Dr. Chopra's "A Gift of Love" for guidance. Dr. Chopra and his friend enhance the message of Rumi through this compilation.
Packaging: It is an added bonus that the packaging of this product is quite appealing as well. There are two CDs included. CD 1: 35 poems recited by Chopra and his coterie of wonderful readers. CD 2: includes Chopra narrating the story of Rumi and Shams and his examination of the seven spiritual laws of love. (attraction, infatuation, communion, intimacy, surrender, passion, ecstacy).
To all those who wish to tread the path of Rumi's world, start here.
A Gift Of Love!.......2003-12-21
Usually I buy a CD, listen to it a few times and then it sits and collects dust. But this one is different. If I have a stressful day or whatever, I come home and listen to this and in only minutes I feel the stresses of the day leave me. I feel more grounded and as a friend said, it has the ability to put you in a deep meditative state.
I would rarely give any CD 5 stars, but this one rates it easily and if you are at are familiar with Rumi - you know his words are profoundly deep and touching to the human soul.

Following their ascension from the Atlanta music scene in 1994, Outkast have spent the greater part of a decade creating innovative and challenging music that disproves the persistent rumor of hip-hop's imminent demise. That's because Andre 3000 and Big Boi are artists of the first order. Coming off a run of four critically acclaimed albums, plus a successful collaboration with their extended clan, the Dungeon Family, Big Boi and Dre present a collection of their greatest hits, which includes three previously unreleased tracks. Highlights among the older material include the original (non-album) version of their first-ever single, "Playa's Ball"; ATLiens' "Elevators"; the spoken-word dub-funk of Aquemini's "Spottieottiedopalicious"; and "B.O.B", the song that caused Stankonia to enter mainstream territory. The new songs are of the same high caliber and should be a good enough reason for die-hard fans to pick this CD up--there's no such thing as too much Outkast in your collection. --Rebecca LevineCustomer Reviews:
Your best bet.......2006-06-22
If you're lukewarm, more casual or just getting into 'Kast, this really is the LP you should start with because you truly get a "Greatest Hits Pre-2003" sampling of this group's many styles and flavors.
Do you like party music to jam to? It's here.
Do you prefer something funky & out of the ordinary? It's here.
Do you like above average lyrics and something that makes you think? There are songs on this CD that will fulfill that need as well.
Probably what makes OutKast so beloved, so respected and so watched is the fact they always find ways to be unique, innovative and more creative than what's out there in the world of music when they drop.
I honestly believe since they've been out for so long ('92, '93) and changed so much, every OutKast fan has a favorite OutKast sound or era.
The good news is that "Big Boi and Dre Present ..." has something for everybody!
'Kast's earlier work is a happy medium between funky but G'ed Up hip hop that's straight from the Gangsta Rap scene that dominated the better part of the '90s.
Songs like "Git Up, Git Out (and Get Something)," "Player's Ball," and "Ain't No Thang" kind of exemplify a time gone by. Big Boi 2 this day laughs about that material and where his head was -- yet this isn't a dis, but more of an artistic reflection. All of these tracks remain relevant and classic!
If Funk is more your thing, listen to "Crumblin' Erb," "Spottieottiedopaliscious" and to "Southernplayalisticadilacmuzik". These are tracks ladies I know always feel.
OutKast crossed over in a big way and while considered highly commercial by many standards, signature 'Kast songs like "Ms. Jackson," "Bombs Over Baghdad" (which is NOT a war song, btw), "So Fresh, So Clean" and "The Whole World" are hits that rightfully made this LP.
Perhaps 'Kast's most creative, innovative and thought-provoking jams like the highly political "Rosa Parks" and "Aquemini" are also among favorites on this LP. This group has always had messages in the overwhelming majority of their songs (even the party ones) and these tracks are indicative of their intelligence and talent.
The only knock against this CD is the fact that perhaps the greatest OutKast song of all-time, a track from the 1998 LP Aquemini called "Liberation" didn't make the final product.
That's a song all of you need to hear.
At any rate, OutKast is easily among the greatest of all hip hop duos -- if not the greatest -- on the level of Eric B & Rakim, EPMD, Redman & Method Man (aka da Blunt Brothers) and UGK.
Highly recommended purchase for any music fan of distinguished taste, male or female, gay or straight, young or old, black, white, brown, red or yellow.
Hey man, this is cool.......2006-05-23
Good collection.......2006-04-30
I don't know what else you expected to get, it's Outkast, one of the most innovative hip-hop groups around now.
The Term Greatest Hits Needs To Be Redefined [4 stars].......2006-01-19
This is what I expect a greatest hits album to be:
From Southernplayaisicmuzik (1994):
1. Southernplayaisicmuzik
2. Git Up, Git Out (I don't mind it being the radio edit)
3. Player's Ball (the video reprise, the beat sounds so much better than the origonal)
4. Aint No Thang
From ATLiens (1996):
1. ATLiens
2. Elevators (Me & You)
3. Jazzy Belle (remix with the sung hook)
From Aquemini (1998):
1. Rosa Parks
2. Spottieottiedopalicious
3. Skew It On The Bar B
4. The Art Of Storytellin' (Part 3 with Slick Rick)
From Stankonia (2000):
1. So Fresh, So Clean
2. Ms. Jackson
3. B.O.B.
From some soundtracks:
1. Benz Or Beemer (NJ Drive Sndtrk)
2. Neck Ov Da Woods (The Wood Sndtrk)
As for the new tracks, I don't mind "Funkin' Around" and "The Whole World" to be on here, but the album could have done without "Moovin Cool" for could have been saved for "The Love Below" album.
Basically what I'm saying is that if people are going to make a greatest hits album, they need to put all of them on here, not just some here and there. But I recommend this to ALL Outkast fans, despite the shortcommings.
Lyrics: A
Production: A-
Musical Vibes: A
Overall: A (5 stars for the songs they are; 3.5 stars for it to be a "greatest hits" album, so 4 stars total)

Great second half.......2006-12-19
Released in 1974, this is Al Stewart's fifth album, depending on how you are counting. It is 42 minutes long and the transition to CD is very good.
This album had two killer tracks, the 8 minute Roads To Moscow and the 9 minute Nostradamus. In between those 2 songs was the very good 3 minute Terminal Eyes, which reminds of the Beatles Come Together or I Am the Walrus, but not quite as wierd.
The first side of the album consisted of some boring, tedious songs. It seems like Al Stewart is at his worst when he sings about the Navy (just like Lord Granville on the Year of the Cat).
This was one of those LP's where you played only one side. You listened to the other once, and would never play it again. There were many like that in rock history, like Iron Butterfly's In-A-Godda-Da-Vida or Rare Earth's Get Ready.
"Roads to Moscow" is a masterpiece, but Bruce K. got it wrong!.......2006-09-12
How can a guy get it so very wrong? One listen to this exceptional track clearly clues the listener into the time period and circumstance of the story. I cannot believe that you ever listened to this record Bruce, and if you did you should be ashamed of yourself for writing a review as wreckless as this. It is clear that you simply "made this up", perhaps after listening to the first 30 seconds of the song, or more likely, bought your information from some college term paper web site, the kind that cause their customers to flunk out of school. Sadly, people including myself have relied on your reviews to make buying decisions. This shows us that you are nothing but a fraud and should not be allowed to participate in this forum ever again.
An Overlooked Musical Gem.......2006-08-07
The best known tracks are "Roads To Moscow" and "Nostradamus" which both got some FM air play in the 70s and established Al Stewart's name among a small cult following before his 1976 album "Year Of The Cat" earned him a Top 10 spot.
Al Stewart is a great songwriter who always comes up with great lyrics. He also has a strong interest in historical subjects and that interest often finds its way into his songs.
"Nostradamus" is about the 16th French seer whose visions of the future have been the subject of countless books, articles and documentaries.
"Roads To Moscow" is about a nameless Russian soldier in WWII who is captured by the Germans, escapes, makes his way back to Russian lines and is treated as a spy and/or a traitor because he was captured and survived. The Soviet political commissars send him to a prison camp in Siberia. It's a great song; read your own interpretations into the story.
Bottom line: this album is a musical gem which never achieved the recognition it deserved. It deserves your attention; buy it.

A Fine Early Eighties Effort.......2007-06-30
My favorite tracks are Meet Me Halfway-- a great Hayward/Lodge contribution, Going Nowhere, Running Water and the two Thomas' tunes I Am and Sorry. Sorry sounds like something written by a man on the verge of divorce and I AM has the retro-mysticism that made the Moodies famous. The Lodge section Hole in the World and Under My Feet are nice additions to this album as well. The only down side to this album is the Hayward song "It's Cold Outside of Your Heart." I'm a huge Justin Hayward fan- I have all his solo albums, including some bootleg stuff, but there are times when he'll write a tune that just doesn't have it. Not that it isn't presented well.
My understanding is that the group boycots all these songs from their concerts because of production issues- things being added and/or subtracted without their consent or knowledge. Which is too bad-- it would be nice to hear the brilliant harmonies of Hayward/Lodge on Meet Me Half Way live.
The average music fan out there may not appreciate this album, but Moodies fans will be quite fond of this. I know I certainly am.
Let Me Present 'The Present'.......2007-06-08
1 Blue World- NO. I have honestly tried to like it. It just doesn't touch me, something very rare in a Justin Hayward song.
2 Meet Me Halfway- YES. Vintage Hayward & Lodge harmony- sooo good.
3 Sitting At The Wheel- YES. Rockin' Johnny in a feel-good song.
4 Going Nowhere- YES. Great vocal by the fabulous Ray Thomas- 'nuff said.
5 Hole In The World- YES. Lovely and clever instrumental by Lodge.
6 Under My Feet- YES. Very good, "under"-appreciated song by John Lodge.
7 It's Cold Outside Of Your Heart- YES. Hayward got to me real good.
8 Running Water- YES. J. Hayward struck again- hard this time.
9 I Am- YES. Ray's glorious voice again. Lovely song w/ Messianic theme.
10 Sorry- YES. I'm "sorry" it had to end as Ray Thomas was magnificent!
The Present is truly a great piece of work from The Moody Blues, that for some reason was either disliked or simply ignored. Only God knows why.

Sacred Moment focuses on finding present moment awareness. It starts with basic guidance and flows into a wonderful description on how to bring your focus to the present moment and keep it there when thoughts arise. She guides you to think about each moment as being sacred and how to feel still, calm and free.
Quiet Thoughts focuses on learning how to slow down your thinking. It starts with basic guidance and flows into how to be present with what you are doing and your surroundings and how to quiet your mind and keep it at ease. She guides you on how to relax your entire body. As she speaks, she pauses just long enough for you to digest what's she's said and then moves on.
Non-Thinking focuses on learning the freedom of non-thinking. Pakvilai varies her introduction and guidance enough so that each CD is different and refreshing. In this CD she focuses on your mind and how to follow your thoughts at they arrive and leave, then how to focus on non-thinking - by focusing on breathing, your body feelings and the present moment. She guides you on how to detach from your thoughts during meditation, just by letting your thoughts gently flow in and out of your mind as you observe them arriving and leaving.
Sleep Ease is all about getting you so relaxed you fall asleep. The introduction is different in that you are instructed to lay on your back. This CD focuses t getting you to relax your entire body. Pakvilai gets you to the point of feeling like you are as light as a feather and floating on a cloud. She slowly guides you to focus on your entire body, part-by-part, from head to toe. I've found this particular CD invaluable on those days when I'm under a lot of stress and can't easily fall asleep or sometimes when waking up in the middle of the night with a monkey mind, I listen to it to put me back to sleep.
