Album Description
Produced by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Social Distortion, Silverstein ,Tenacious D) and the band, Broadcast to the World proves it was worth waiting for with smart, razor-sharp rockers like "Rated U for Ugly," "Karma Flavored Whisky" and "Broadcast to the World."Against a big, buoyant backdrop painted by guitarist Greg Bergdorf, drummer Ed Udhus and bassist Ben Osmundson, Lewis and rapper Ali Tabatabaee detail scenarios of betrayal ("Here's to You"), domestic troubles ("Your New Girlsfriend Wears Girlpants") and soured relationships ("Back to Normal"). With new addition to zebrahead Matty Lewis on this album you can tell the band means business.
Broadcast to the World is the successor to zebrahead's critically acclaimed third release, MFZB. MFZB had the highest testing alternative song for months running with "Rescue Me". MFZB also went gold in Japan! Playmate of the Year, released in 2000 to rave reviews, the album's infectious title track received over 4000 spins on Modern Rock and Rock radio, garnering airplay on some of the nation's biggest alternative stations. Meanwhile, its provocative companion video, which co-starred a harem of curvy Playboy playmates and was shot at the Playboy mansion, was steaming up television screens across the country. Broadcast to the World has all the electrifying energy of a live zebrahead show, blending raging tempos and ringing guitar lines into surging, insistent choruses that stick after a single listen.

This is one of the best albums i've ever heard........2007-04-19
What makes this album so great is the rocking choruses (these guys know how to write a good hook!) and simple but rocking riffs filled with tons of energy. You can these guys are really comfortable with their instruments, as they are technically solid.
Not only is this CD good and lighthearted, but also it may be the best CD you have ever purchased.
This band has become so much more and I can't wait to here more from them.
Zebrahead has changed? *Gasp* No way!.......2007-04-01
But it was a phenominal album. It was labeled as being 'Pop Punk,' and whatever the hell that is, they one-uped all the other Blink ripoffs easily. Then their singer Justin left, and Matty came in. Matty sounds like Justin... but doesn't seem to have that powerful, booming depth that Justin displayed at times. Despite that, 'Broadcast' delivers the same delightfully ear friendly tunes that MFZB so beautifully displayed. As if yearning to be the band they once were, you can still see the funk influences in BTTW, however only in one song, "Back to Normal."
The title song and "Karma Flavored Whiskey" are hard hitting songs with an almost metal edge to them. "Here's To You" is one of the catchiest songs Zebrahead has ever written. The first single, "Anthem" is amazing to sing along to.
But heres the catch: MFZB was a downright jawdropping album. Their were no "bad" songs. BTTW continued the new, faster paced, angstier Zebrahead flow, however, it argueably does have a few "bad" songs. The last 2 tracks are snoozers. "Enemy" tries to mix things up, with Zebrahead setting a darker atmosphere, but it fails.
Bottom line? If you LOVED MFZB, you'll thoroughly enjoy BTTW. But MFZB still is the better of the two.
Zebrahead used to be good before this.......2007-03-01

Asia Redux? Not Quite........2006-11-29
Whenever these two musicians come together, you have to take notice. Icon is everything you'd expect from two of the four founders of Asia, but at the same time not what you'd expect. With Icon, Wetton and Downes leave behind much of the early Asia albums' pop sensibility in favor of a more progressive approach. It's not as catchy, but there is a more complex, more emotional feel to the music that brings to mind recent albums by Dare and Marillion. The fact that the pair is supported on this album by members of modern progressive rock bands like Jadis and Kino adds to this overall feeling. There are still moments that sound like vintage Asia, but Icon is definitely not a case of "business as usual".
It goes without saying that Icon will please long time Asia fans, but it's far more than just a throwback album. Icon is a remarkably strong album that most fans of modern progressive rock (as well as AOR and melodic rock) are almost certain to enjoy.
Their work on Icon appears to be a factor behind the recent reformation of the original Asia lineup earlier this year. I'm not exactly happy about the unceremonious dumping of John Payne (whose fine debut with GPS picks up right where Asia's Silent Nation left off), but at the same time I have to wonder what the classic lineup has in store.
PS - Am I the only one who thinks the verses to "I Stand Alone" sound uncannily similar to Ozzy Osbourne's "I Just Want You"? I won't tell Sharon if you won't!
NOTE: The 2006 reissue of Icon features two bonus tracks - new versions of the Asia staples "the Smile Has Left Your Eyes" and "Heat of the Moment". They're neat to hear, but with countless recordings of these songs on the market, there's no real reason to run out and replace your 2005 version of Icon.

Album Description
Canadian deathcore darlings drop their sophomore after a two and a half year wait. Just another deathcore album.......2007-03-10
Brutally heavy major label debut.......2006-09-19
The Healing Process is Despised Icon's sophomore release, their debut being Consumed By Your Poison. They also released an EP and a split release thereafter before signing to Century Media for The Healing Process. In many ways, the material presented on this disc harks back to their earlier work, except that it has stronger sonics and musical precision. The songs are quite short, all under four minutes except one. The band loses no time to make their point: they start out with a relentless slab of agression underscored by mighty double bass drums and unbreakable bass grooves. On top of that, there is Jarrin and St-Amand's crushing guitar riffery to back the duel vocals of Alexandre Erian and Steve Marois. The singing is right up there with the likes of Dying Fetus, especially during the growled parts, but the band also sticks to their more metalcore-inspired screaming style. One song where this combination works perfectly is the brutally heavy "Bulletproof Scales", alternating between blood-curdling screams and deep, throat-ripping growls, and giving way to intricate riff and lead work along with rumbling bass and drum battery. Almost like a Dillinger Escape Plan song, it segues into "Silver Plated Advocate". Replete with lightning fast drums, mind-bending chord progressions, and rapid-fire riffery, the song briefly slows down at the end for a sludgy outro. Thus, the character of the album is introduced.
Confident they've made a strong impression, the band follow up their material with slightly more interesting compositions, "Immaculate" being one of them. Though the overdone screaming and heavy metalcore intro may turn some off, the band plows through great breaks and muted riffs only to put forth a nice acoustic section and some spoken clean vocals during the middle. However, to make up for it, they finish the song off with their heaviest playing yet. The cool grooves and primal rhythm work of "Warm Blooded" and the almost grindcore drive of "Retina" form the backbone of the album before the six-piece opts for a few more technical numbers like "The Sunset Will Never Charm Us", full of choppy riffs; and "Harvesting the Deceased", noteworthy for its stunning sweeping and picking.
It would be unfair to lump Despised Icon into the metalcore category based on their short songs fueled by slightly technical riffs and aggressive vocals, but they would certainly impress a good many of the genre's fans not to mention listeners of Strapping Young Lad, Dying Fetus, and Dillinger Escape Plan. That said, Despised Icon doesn't quite sound like any of them. They have their own thing going for sure.
The production is excellent. The album was mixed by Dagenais (Kataklysm) and mastered by Alan Douches (Dillinger Escape Plan).

Sterling stuff, a solid CD from start to finish, I find it difficult to make special note of any one song. I'd hate to have to pick a flash single, any one of the first nine would do, wow. If this guy doesn't get big time airplay the world has gone mad.
I should mention that because it's MOR pop, that I hate it. But just because it's not my style doesn't mean it isn't fantastic stuff, I have about five of the chorus hooks currently lodged in my head . . . "Letter box love sooonng . . . " Arggh.

Amazon.com essential recording
Critics may contend that Barry White passed his hit-making peak in the late '70s, but the man with the righteously real, deep-down-in-the-vocal-basement tones shocked all the nonbelievers in 1994. Thanks to "Practice What You Preach," the major hit single from this collection, White proved that he was far from being down with the count. Written and produced by White with Gerald Levert and his musical partner Tony Nicholas, the song not only found favor with White's existing audience, it had enough contemporary appeal to win the pop and soul legend some new fans, giving White's recording career a much-needed jolt. White also used the services of other current musical hit makers for the project: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis cowrote "I Only Want to Be with You" and "Come On," a pair of strong tunes for the album. However, White is at his bedroom best on "Baby's Home" and "Whatever We Had, We Had," most definitely a throwback to his earlier work as a '70s chartbuster. --David NathanCustomer Reviews:

The best one of his '90s albums.......2005-10-28
The Icon is BACK!!.......2004-05-28
A cameo in the Simpsons not only lined his pockets but introduced him to a whole new generation. Plus with the 70s revival the time was right & everything came together for Barry. He hooked up with guys like Gerald Albright and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and put together 'The Icon Is Love', an album of fun good time jams and some slowed numbers. The singles 'Practice What You Preach' and 'Come On' are classic Barry, and the rest of the material has his distinctive style written all over it, booming bass vocals, cool monologues and wit, but now with updated bass & bump beneath it all. This was a cool comeback for Barry and the album while not as good as his 70s material is a nice effort.
Barry White will always be the icon.......2004-04-18
Practice What You Preach opens this album in grand style. This track begins with a sultry rap spoken to the accompaniment of a sensuous bass line, after which Barry launches right into lyrics of great energy and appeal. The chorus is fantastic, so catchy you will carry this tune around in your head for days at a time. Practice What You Preach spent 30 weeks on the Billboard R&B charts, three of them at number one, and helped reenergize White's career. Two other singles from this album, Come On and There It Is also made the charts. Come On oozes with sensual power, as White pleads with his partner to come on and play; satisfaction is guaranteed in this up-tempo track. There It Is, however, is much less entrancing; this is actually my least favorite song on the album. Two other tracks merit special mention: Baby's Home and Whatever We Had, We Had. These are vintage White classics that belong right alongside so many of his earlier standout recordings. Oozing with that unquantifiable magic White's voice conveys, the singer gives the words and music all the time and attention they deserve. Baby's Home runs over eight minutes, while What We Had, We Had runs for over ten and a half minutes - neither song is too long. The latter has to do with breaking up and remaining friends, while Baby's Home expresses all of the magic of a love still burning with passion.
Sexy Undercover picks up the tempo a little bit, as Barry tells his lady that he's shy on the outside but full of surprises behind closed doors; he's got the mojo working hard in this dance-worthy track. I Only Want To Be With You, in which Barry sings that love is so much more than a physical thing, lays down a smooth, toe-tapping groove with just a touch of good old-fashioned funk; I wish this song had been released as a single because I think it would have been a huge hit. Don't You Want to Know is slow and sensual, really a beautiful little song. Love Is the Icon and The Time Is Right are great tracks, as well.
With a nice mixture of up-tempo tracks and mesmerizing ballads, this 1994 album returned Barry White to the spotlight and, in so doing, gave the world ten more Barry White classics to enjoy forevermore. Barry White may have mellowed a little bit by 1994, but the magic was still there for all to hear and enjoy. He was and always will be the icon.
The ICON is White...Barry White!.......2003-07-14
White stalwart Jack Perry was joined in producing duties with the likes of Jam & Lewis ("I Only Want to Be With You", "Come On"), Chuckii Booker ("The Time is Right", "Sexy Undercover"), and Gerald Levert ("Practice What You Preach", "There It Is"), and the resulting collaborations provide White with a well-balanced offering featuring a little old with the new.
The last cut, "Whatever We Had, We Had" is a reflection on the end of his marriage to Glodean. White knew how to begin AND end a relationship.
With his recent passing, one can be grateful that his unique musical style will live on.

Album Description
Why a tribute to artists still very much alive, well, and making records? The immediate cynical reply is commercialism, and let's be honest, what artist or record label wouldn't want to capitalize on the fan base and rich song catalogue of a band like The Pet Shop Boys? It seems almost inconceivable that this hasn't been done before, especially with the number of Depeche Mode tribute CDs in the double digits and climbing. But with so many tribute CDs on the market - some paying homage to artists who barely have three albums under their belts - there is a growing consumer backlash against them. Too, it's hard for artists to know how best to approach these tributes. A faithful cover risks critical allegations that the artist has simply copied the song with no real vision employed, while a radical re-working will have fans clamoring that a musical classic has been butchered. It's a difficult tightrope to tread.
Still, everyone involved in this project has opted to walk that tightrope, and we're hopeful and confident that you in the audience will be entertained by the performance. Rest assured that this is not a thrown-together assembly line tribute, but something lovingly compiled over the better part of a year by a longtime PSB fan. We've even had the disc mastered at the same studio that mastered Nightlife as well as the recent re-issues to ensure the best sound quality.

Stick to the Originals.......2002-04-15
1) They provide worthwhile new interpretations of existing songs.
2) They confirm that the original singers were not merely fine songwriters, but also very good singers and/or arrangers.
Like the tribute album to Elton John, this definitely falls in the latter category.
Two Thumbs Up but only 4 stars because it's not PSB.......2002-04-05
It has about the same hits on it as discography with a version of NYC Boy that is actually better on this CD than the original IMHO.
If you're a PSB Fan like we are, buy it, because we think it has been a nice way to be exposed to some talent we have not heard before; but through songs we know and love.
Just don't expect any of the songs to be sung in the same octave as the PSB..these are all baritones and tenors on this one.
