5 out of 5 stars Vienna Teng- Waking Hour.......2007-05-30

Great music. Saw her on tv and bought the cd because of that show. Excellent quality cd.

5 out of 5 stars Good times........2007-03-26

This music is beautiful and relaxing, but complex enough that it never becomes boring. I can fall asleep to it, and also listen to it all day at work. I'll definitely be buying her other albums when I have a chance.

5 out of 5 stars Vienna .......2007-02-14

If you miss Vienna Teng the onus is upon you. Check out her latest. If lyrics which include more than three repeated words drag you down, then avoid her.

3 out of 5 stars Vienna Teng...Walkng Hour........2007-01-03

It's a good cd. Worth owning. Her best is Warm Strangers, I highly recommend that one.

3 out of 5 stars Nice piano work.......2006-11-04

Nice sound on the piano. Lyrics a little too melodramatic for my taste. I do look forward to hearing more from her in the future.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Mick Karn, yeah!.......2007-06-09

I purchased this album strictly because of the bass playing on it.
The albums sound is hard to describe. The only "real" instrument is the fretless bass. Everything else is synth and drum machines.
Peter Murphy sounds like, well, Peter Murphy.

Bottom Line: If you are a bass player, you need this album in your collection.

3 out of 5 stars Waking.......2007-02-16

A decent album with a different sound. If you are a Bauhaus fan, this might not be for you.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Quirky 80's Art-Rock Gem.......2006-07-09

I have to admit, having heard this years after it's initial release, it holds some kind of odd fascination for me that I didn't get the first time around. I have to admit, I was not a fan of Peter Murphy at all back in those days.

After very recently hearing this in, of all places, a pub and ona local college radio station, I was floored by what unfolded.

The combining of Mick Karn and Peter Murphy's muses for a time worked really well, at least long enough to put out "The Waking Hour". Freed from the constraints of their respective bands, Karn (ex-Japan) and Murphy (ex-Bauhaus) constructed a set of mysterious, hypnotic and oddly alluring art-rock songs.

Here, Murphy begins to find his legs as a vocal artist, eschewing the over-the-top histrionics and caterwauling of Bauhaus in favor of darkly melodic (owing to his on the cusp of tenor and baritone vocal range)and more textured/nuanced ideas that a studio environment allowed him to explore. Of course, he writes the usual variety of mysterious and cryptic lyrics to go along with it.

Mick Karn really carries this album as its resident multi-instrumentalist. The songs are driven by a combination of slithery, snaky and angular unpredictable fretless bass lines propelled along by steady yet very interesting rhythmic patterns generated by drum machines (with some live percussion mixed in). If I have to give it minus points for anything, it's the now extrenely dated nature of the drum machines on here. But that gripe aside, MIck Karn weaves surreal soundscapes with not only his serpentine bass but also a dizzying variety of warm and unique synth/keyboard textures with a heavy emphasis on Middle Eastern/Turkish/Arabic sonic flavors (Karn was originally born on Cyprus and was exposed to much of these types of musics growing up).

The songs aren't overly long, just long enough to be interesting.

Give it five stars for uniqueness and originality, with just one star off for some dated production things. Overall, VERY enjoyable and hypnotic!

5 out of 5 stars Murphys and Ash Never Ending Alchemy .......2006-02-10

Dalis Car is another of that rare pieces into Ash and Murphys catalog they have togheter and by themselves explored a bunch of musical proposals all for an insatiable sense of perfection and avant garde that have provided England and Europe the solid reputation known by real connosieurs, among several projects such as Tons Of Tail, Love And Rockets, Bauhaus, etcetera. were dark, rock , techno, alternative and every imaginable proposal converge Dalis Car is an appealing oddity more oriented into artificial flavored sounds (sinthetizers) many years before FSOL time or Massive Attack age, Murphys fascination for art and poetry and literary songwritting is evident and Ash musical creativity and experimentation combined complete this rare piece known by a few fans of any of the before projects named in this review because perhaps Dalis Car never had the fame that Bauhaus or Love and Rockets had but it has its own charm by own rigth

3 out of 5 stars One of a Kind.......2005-10-11

Bauhaus was gone. Dave and Pete didn't like each other anymore. Pete met Mick and had a one album stand.
This is a very unique album. Pete had just come off of Bauhaus and Mick from Japan and Numan. They pulled those two major musical forces together to bring us Dali's Car. Soft spoken and spooky, it is a short album and each of the songs is distinctive and will get stuck in your head for years. I bought this album when it came out. It was stolen and I didn't buy it again for many years. The reason I bought it after more than a decade was that I would still sing the songs to myself and I needed to hear them again.

Album Description

This is two-time JUNO Winner David Francey's most recent album and it also was nominated for a JUNO (Canadian Grammy) as Roots and Traditional Album of the Year in the solo category.

The stunning collection of songs was recorded in Nashville with acclaimed performers Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch and Fats Kaplin. This CD shares the simple recording style of David's first three albums but adds a driving rhythm provided by these amazing Nashville artists. Canada is legendary for producing incredible singer/songwriters who vividly describe the human condition (Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Stan Rogers) and David Francey is the latest in that great tradition.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Revelation, of sorts!.......2005-07-02

David Francey was coming to a nearby venue with James Keelaghan, and I was lucky to get a listen to this CD before its release.

There is a good feeling you get when you can sit back and have a nice, open conversation with a friend. You also feel that way when you listen to this CD, because that is how Francey sings.

With an everyman voice, a little bit of everywhere accent, and a delivery that is right from the heart, his songs are just simple life stories, smoke rings that circle around before drifting away. From the first line, you can feel the real life in these songs. And in the singer's soul.

On the stage, that is exactly the person who showed up to perform. Francey described himself as "instrumentally challenged." He just sang! But the songs and the stories came at you without disguise. He is no young turk, and his songs plainly show a maturity that can be hard to find.

You will really enjoy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars instant classic.......2005-03-13

This is a GREAT album. The songs feel so right from the first hearing and soon it feels like you've known them all your life--they are so honest and true. The lyrics are both simple and profound and Francey singing is intense and passionate. Buy this, you won't regret it.
