Hailing from Louisville, KY, The Velcro Pygmies have set their sights on being nothing less than the saviors of Rock and Roll! Loud Guitars, pounding drums and an energetic front man have been the tools used to blaze a fan frenzied trail from one end of the US to the other.
Having grown tired of seeing "cookie cutter" bands staring at their shoes and boring audiences, guitarist Blake Baumeier and vocalist Cameron Flener decided to bring back the performance elements of rock music that seemed to have been so sadly forgotten.
"The Velcro Pygmies are the old Van Halen for a new generation" states Flener, the charismatic son of a Baptist minister. Prowling the stage with a "six-pack" stomach, Flener invokes the spirits of a bygone era of Rock. Controlling the crowd like a demented Aerobics instructor, Cameron never fails to bring the audience to a boil!
"When I go see a band, I don't want to be disappointed", adds Baumeier, "I want to see a show, and that's what we want to give people!" The lanky guitarist serves as the group's main songwriter and musical director. "Someone's got to be sane..." deadpans the musician affectionately referred to by his fans as "The Blazeman". "Standing on the Pygmie's stage is no easy task", claims Blake, "There's a lot going on...if you're not confident, you'll get lost in the shuffle!"
Finding the right members to fill out this lineup was no easy task, however drummer Chris Eddins proved to be the perfect man for the job. It's impossible to describe the onstage antics of the Pygmie percussionist: balancing sticks on his nose, kicking cymbals, and spinning drumsticks in every direction. His "you've got to see it to believe it" ability has made Chris a crowd favorite. Being one of the world's most influential drummers has also landed Chris endorsement deals with DW Drums and Sabian Cymbals...as well as his own signature razor!
Bassist Jimmy Mullin rounds out the group with handsome features, great vocals and no nonsense rock and roll low end. Always smiling, Jimmy has firmly set his feet on a stage that would eat most players alive. "I enjoy being a part of the show as much as the audience does", quips Jimmy!
With the experience of over a thousand shows under their belts, the Velcro Pygmies are conquering the world like a Rock and Roll army. Cam's ability to bring a crowd to life, Blake's straight ahead guitar and sense of humor, Chris' circus-like skills, and Jimmy's powerful bass playing have molded this act into one of the most sought-after bands in the country! The Velcro Pygmies combination of four-part harmonies, catchy songs, and expert playing ability could make them the next Rock and Roll Legend to grow from the Heartland of America!
Product Description
Velcro Pygmies are the epitome of what Southern Rock is all about. Guitar, bass, drums and vocals, four part harmonies, blues/rock flavor, darlings of the critics and hell raisers alike. Larger than life, the South East's most powerful rock band, who bring the largest PA and light systems and the most exciting stage shows. This is the first CD released through retail distribution. During the past 12 months, they have sold 20,000 units of their last CD off the stage! 'Mona Lisa' hit the charts on many of the South East's radio stations and stood head to head with major label artists it shared rotation. Velcro Pygmies have written soundtracks for the motion picture 'The Babysitter' starring Alicia Silverstone. Global Entertainment used the song 'Undeniable', as the theme song for one of their pay-per-view events.

Despite its title, the first nationally released album by this Texas maverick establishes Robison as considerably more than a good-time Charlie. From the sardonic bite of "Sunset Boulevard" and "You're Not the Best" to the alcohol-fueled, nursery-rhyme whimsy of "Barlight," Robison provides a compelling blend of roadhouse swagger, whiplash humor, and an ornery streak that stretches from Austin to San Antonio. Label-mate brother Bruce Robison and Bruce's wife Kelly Willis provide vocal support, and the smoky balladry of the album-closing "Molly's Blues" would do John Prine or Steve Earle proud. Amid a musical landscape littered with alt-country wannabes and tinhorn rebels, Charlie Robison is the real deal, an artist who sticks to his guns. --Don McLeeseCustomer Reviews:

He gets better with age. If you're only going to buy one Robison CD, hold out for "Live" (four stars) or "Live Unchained" (five stars).
This one is an early work and of interest to Robisonophiles, but the rest of us can hear the same songs played better on his more mature albums.

Its muscular aura of international intrigue informed by smart characters, sharp writing, and a sleek cinematic sense, the episodes of the hit Alias often seem more like a chapters of a successful movie spy franchise than mere network television series. Key to achieving that masterful illusion is young composer Michael Giacchino, whose soundtracks range across a dizzying range of musical styles and dramatic undercurrents. This anthology of cues from the show's first season incorporates shrewd, techno-savvy club beats, sweeping orchestral sequences of pounding action, brooding suspense worthy of Bond, and inventive indigenous music of indeterminate nationality. Firmly grounded in rich Hollywood traditions, yet hip enough to keep an ear cocked to pulsing, contemporary styles, Giacchino's TV scores often outshine those of the pricier, big budget Hollywood boilerplate he's competing with. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Perfect soundtrack to a nearly perfect TV show.......2005-03-17
My favorite pieces on the CD are "SD-6 Dance Party," "Red Hair is Better," and "Spanish Heist." I've no idea who the guitarist is on the latter two cuts, but he's quite good!
I recommend this first and foremost to anyone who fears that soundtracks are a dead medium; Giacchino's a challenging composer and takes some real risks. Alias fans will snatch this up (although it doesn't include any soundbites from the TV series), as will anyone willing to play both techno and retro lounge on their CD players. Completists may not be happy with this CD as none of the popular music heard in the show is reproduced here, nor is the torch song Jennifer Garner sang in one episode. But that's what future installments of Alias soundtrack CDs are for!

Album Description
Spirited new sounds from across the sea to the shores of the New Land. From the first colonists to the American Revolution and the birth of our republic Hesperus Early Music Ensemble's music reflects a time of new ideas, freedom and vitality. In town and village, parlor and ballroom, from the Appalachians to the great concert halls hear the musical pulse of early American music performed on a wide variety of folk and early music instruments. Includes: lively country-dance tunes, evocative Shape Note Hymns, old time Appalachian fiddle tunes, graceful European parlor music, French cotillions, divisions and improvisations. Introduction -The English Colonies in America were a patchwork-not just of territories whose boundaries became state lines, but of people from different places and classes with widely different values and experiences. This recording presents music from that patchwork; from England, the Colonial homeland; Scotland and Ireland, the homes of the largest groups of immigrants outside England; and France, the ally of the Patriots, and music written in the United States. More recordings by HESPERUS from Maggie's Music are Celtic Roots featuring Scottish fiddler, Bonnie Rideout and Early American Roots. Hesperus Ensemble is THE sought after musical group for period music that is both authentic, and most important fun, lively and spirited. They are frequent performers at the Smithsonian's Institute of American Music and can be heard on the soundtrack or the Paramount film with Johnny Depp entitled Sleepy Hollow! Excerpts from liner notes:2.A Set of English Country Dance Tunes: Maiden Lane, Jack O'Lent, Chestnut, Bonny Broom - The visionary London music publisher John Playford first published his English Dancing Master in 1651. It was reprinted 18 times over the next 77 years and is still popular today. 3. Parting Friends/Primrose - These tunes have come down to us in choral arrangements called shape-note hymns .Customer Reviews:

What's the Fubu record label's inaugural release about? Says FB Entertainment artist Amazin': "Money. Cool. Girls. Cool. Diamonds. Cool. Cars. Cool." Demonstrating the album's superficiality, track one consists of celebrities such as Michael Jordan and Ice-T leaving messages on the "Good Life Party" RSVP line; the album henceforth maintains its mercilessly ghetto-fabulous pace. The title song displays Nas and Nate Dogg's remarkable ability to rhyme about nothing, R&B journeyman Joe croons about his love for the "Ghetto Girl," and "50 N****s Deep" showcases Detroit newcomer Drunken Master. Songs by Beenie Man and Supercat mix in a bit of dancehall flavor, while Dawn Robinson's contribution, "Set It Off," adds some needed style and finesse. The Good Life is a millennium thug party for those who live to floss. --Rebecca LevineCustomer Reviews:

I told him yes , and then he litterary threw this cd in my face.
He said: "This is the bombdiggity... Yes?" I said I don't know haven't heard it...
Anyways he somehow convinced me to buy the cd for 7 dollars, I went home put the stereo on and felt robbed.
Although there are a few cool cuts on it most is so so stuff.
After this expeience I will never take any advice from an old chinese guy with yellow glasses about what albums to buy.
Could Be Better.......2002-07-16
A very interesting appearence happens from hip hop newcomer Mr. Cheeks on his own hit single "Lights, Camera, Action" and other hip hop superweights like Erick Sermon, India_Arie, and Joe show up later in the album.
I would highly recommend "The Goodlife" to someone who loves cash, bling, and booty. If your someone, however, who enjoys more commercial rap like Jay-Z and Nelly, you'll probably wanna buy one of their albums instead.
So, in all, the FB Entertainment "Good Life" Album is an OK blend of rap, soul, and hip hop that deserves a listen, but, here's a little note to FUBU: Stick To Making Great Clothes Instead Of Great Music.

As fans of musical theater, we're used to offbeat projects, but this long-forgotten show takes the cake--and it's completely entrancing. The opening number alone makes nasty fun of the then-popular beatniks and is immediately followed by "New York," a list song enumerating all the awful things about the city. Rarely has so much bile been spilled on the New York stage--but perhaps that's because the show originated in St. Louis. Tommy Wolf's finger-snapping score and Fran Landesman's biting lyrics are very compelling, especially because it's hard to tell when they're serious and when they're drily sarcastic. The energetic cast, which includes Larry Hagman (best known as JR in Dallas), is backed by a jazz quartet, and the result often sounds strangely contemporary. And then you have some numbers, such as "Night People," that are almost Sondheimian. What a strange, wonderful little show this is. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

Standup comedian, actress, and singer Lea DeLaria presents a less confrontational image here than she did on 1994's Bulldyke in a China Shop, adopting the role of seductive, witty, confident, and heterosexual jazz chanteuse to perfection. Her voice ranges from little-girl-lost innocence to harder-edged tones, both suited to the opening "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd." With stylings from Billie Holiday to Judy Garland, "I've Got Your Number" heads straight for the heart of 1950s big-band balladry, improvised scat vocals proving DeLaria can swing with the best. "Cool" is anything but, the accompaniment understated, that voice dripping with the promise of sex. In "With Every Breath I Take," we get to imagine every late night smoky bar in every old Hollywood film we've ever seen--while it is pastiche, the characterization is startlingly evocative.DeLaria sums it up with "All That Jazz," confidently suggesting, following her recent twin roles in the lavishly acclaimed 2000 Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show, that this girl just wants to have fun playing bad. When she sings "Life Has Been Good to Me," she has such an upbeat twinkle, you suspect she means every word. --Gary S. Dalkin

When my partner and I saw Lea perform her routine in P-town, she wowed us with a stunning version of one of my all-time favorites, "The Ballad of Sweeny Todd." We bought her CD on the spot and it stayed in my car's CD player for weeks on end (and then I only took it out because I had to switch cars).
I enjoyed the whole album, but I found myself playing the first track over and over, and even singing it in the shower. I must disagree with the "Cigar" review on all counts, at least regarding this track. The song lends itself so beautifully to swingin' jazz I can't believe nobody thought of it before. But I'm glad no one has, because Lea DeLaria knocks it out of the park. The smooth delivery is perfect for the dry humor of the lyrics, her belts are such a perfect blend of head and chest it sends chills up my spine, and the arrangement is spot-on. The best part - it stands up beautifully to repeat listenings; I just can't grow tired of this rendition. The opening track alone is worth twice the price of this CD.

Album Description
The popular "Synthpop Club Anthems" series continues, with another yearly installment. This CD highlights some of the ultra-club-friendly synthpop anthems from the 2003-2004 releases, including some of the most popular acts in the scene like De/Vision, Cosmicity, Real Life, and T.O.Y.The "Synthpop Club Anthems" series appeals to some fans of classic synthpop along the lines of New Order, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, etc. but also intends to show the genre's forward-looking trends, fusing together different electronic dance elements from futurepop to trance. This is synthpop that can appeal to dance club fans in pretty much any scene, blending pounding electronics with catchy melodies and memorable, meaningful lyrics (a key ingredient to modern synthpop).
Synthpop is by no means a stale, stagnant sound that does nothing but re-live the sounds of the 80's, but instead moves forward, always expanding, evolving, and reaching out to new fans. "Synthpop Club Anthems 3" continues to extend that reach. Old fans will love it, and new listeners will pay attention!
Customer Reviews:
Better Than Volume 1.......2005-02-20
Where the first volume really was specifically synthpop that might be played at a synthpop or 80s retro flavored club many of the tracks on this volume could be played in any mainstream club and be enjoyed. They are focused on the beats and rhythm: the stuff that makes you want to get up and dance (or go running or whatever you feel like doing whenever you feel that extra energy from the music).
The disc starts off very well with a new track from Real Life (an 80s favorite back with an updated sound for the new millennium) that is just as good as the album track but with more of a club flavor. It's a nice way to start off the CD but my favorite track is track number two. Syrian's "Space Overdrive" is a new favorite. It has a hint of the true synthpop/80s bent but definitely geared up for the club.
The album stays strong from there (other favorites are from T.O.Y and Daybehavior) with the exception of the Alien#Six13 track which sounded a bit flat to me. The final track from Intuition is good but not as good as the original, in my opinion.
Despite a little falter towards the end this album is definitely worth picking up.
Superb Dance Mix Compilation.......2005-01-26
1) Real Life - Oblivion (Nevarakka Mix) - Back to the 80's. Real Life were famous for the superb Send Me an Angel. They are still going strong, and here is a remix from their latest CD. The style is definitely 80's but more mature.
2) Syrian - Space Overdrive (Extended) - Great Synths and thumping beats. Vocals have plenty of echo to create a very trancey feel. The chorus is great and will have you singing along waving your hands in the air (or is that just me).
3) Daybehaviour - Close Your Eyes (Activated Mix) - Great female vocals, and progressive synths. Definitely Trance orientated beat, again with a superb chorus. Lots of variety in the synths with a good melody.
4) Neuropa - Every Second (Extended Mix) - this is great. I have bought all of Neuropas CDs based on this song and the free downloads here at Amazon. Neuropa deserve to be big, as their songs are very catchy, and well produced. Great melody and vocals. Check out their album Born, which is my favourite CD of 2004.
5) Cosmicity - Abort (DJ RAM Mix) - Cosmicity are great, but alas no more. The vision of Mark Nicholas, who has reinvented himself and dropped the name Cosmicity. Abort is probably one of my least favourite songs by Cosmicity, but DJ Ram does an excellent dance remix. There is plenty of bass and a variety of great synth sounds throughout.
6) T.O.Y - Another Lovesong (Trance Mix by Massiv in Mensch) - This song is superb. As the remix says it is a Trance mix, but the original song is quite trancey anyway. This song has a very catchy tune and chorus. The vocals and the lyrics, along with the catchy tune are what makes this song stand out. This is my favourite song by T.O.Y, and this is also my favourite mix. A thumping beat with great melodic synths, and soaring vocals singing lines like : The Moon is my Galactic Spy.
7) The Dignity of Labour - XRV (Nevarakka Mix) - Great 80's style vocals (reminiscent of Real Life). Nevarakka again with a great soaring Club remix.
8) Droom - Stay (Delobbo Mix) - Slightly different in that this remix starts off simple and then gradually builds up. This song would not be out of place in any Club. The vocals are great, very different, again with an 80's feel. The remix is great, very up to date.
9) De/Vision - Digital Dream (Analogue at 46hz by Icon of Coil) - Another great remix. Feels slightly different to the original version, because this definitely feels like an Icon of Coil mix. The vocals are very simple but great (De/Vision a great band that have been around for a few years often compared to Depeche Mode).
10) Neuroactive - New Sensation - No remix needed here, as Neuroactive produce very dancey songs anyway. Great thumping beat, with minimal synth effect vocals.
11) AlienSix13 - Highway to the Sun - Again no remix, plenty of BPM. Almost an instumental as just occasional vocals. In the middle and at then end the song breaks down, and this is my favourite part. Piano style synths play out a great melody, and then the beat kicks back in. Plenty of variety in the song.
12) Intuition - Staring Off at Nothing (Beatfreq Mix) - I like Intuition, they have produced some great songs, and I have bought their previous CDs. This song is from their forthcoming CD, but quite dissapointing. Check out the free downloads here at Amazon, and see what you think of their previous material. The remix is very simple. The chorus shows what Intuition are capable of, but unfortunately it is not long enough, and the rest of the song just washes over you. Nice and pleasant, but nothing special.
Conclusion: Another superb collection from a Different Drum. Not just thrown together, but every song has been cherry picked to make up this CD. Buy this, and you are sure to want to by most of the artists individual CDs.
Best Alternative-Electronic Compilation CD from 2004!.......2005-01-25
Too good for words.......2005-01-24
An impressive Synthpop delight.......2005-01-23
This isn't your average cookie cutter slapped together compialation. This is a very well crafted collection of rare remix editions of great songs from some of the premier artists of the genre. And when I say this I don't mean a few great songs and a bunch of filler. All the artists featured on this CD definitely deserve to be here.
Although I am fairly literate in the world of synthpop and had at least heard of most of the featured bands on here, I was fairly surprised at the quality of the songs and how great they all are. The title is self explanatory: Dancable, club friendly beats in the classic synthpop tradition of combining catchy beats and well written melodic songs together. Synthpop is more than just dance music; you don't have to be in a club to want to hear it because the songs themself are very catchy and addictive.
The synthpop featured here in my opinion is in the tradition of New Order and Depeche Mode, dark and mysterious.
Definitely worth the money. I've already made the discovery that Neuropa and Syrian are bands that I should not have overlooked, and wont anymore, and also that I really need to purchase some of those Cosmicity items on my wish list. It doesn't matter how much you know or don't know about synthpop, this is a quality collection that will definitely help you discover some great bands, which is what A Different Drum had in mind all along. It has certainly helped me =)
