T'Pau is the perfect example of a group that caught on in Europe but never made much of an impression in the U.S., which is a real shame. This would easily have to be the greatest pop music that I didn't discover until after its time had passed. This greatest hits package in particular is just loaded with wonderful songs that never got any sort of attention in America.

A Place In My Heart is downright delicious from start to finish. Of the many brilliant songs that I've ever stumbled across by accident, this one is quite possibly my favorite. It reminds me of Roxette's "Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave)," except the hooks are even more amazing here. (In fact, Roxette's use of guitar in that song is very similar to many of the songs on this album.)

Rating each of the songs on a scale from 1 to 10, over half of them get either a 9 or a 10 from me:

10/10: Heart And Soul, Bridge Of Spies, Whenever You Need Me, The Promise, and A Place In My Heart

9/10: I Will Be With You, Road To Our Dream, Only The Lonely, Secret Garden, Hold On To Love

8/10: Valentine, Sex Talk, Only A Heartbeat, Strange Place

7/10: No Sense Of Pride

This collection was reissued in 2005 with the exact same songs, a different cover, and a shorter title (Hits). If you missed out on this group the first time around, either of these collections will be a worthwhile investment.

T'Pau - in America at least, was a one hit wonder in 1987 with the song, "Heart and Soul." I loved it! Still do. Additionally, the song, "China is Your Hand" is great. In my opinion, these are the two stand-out songs on the cd.

Not your best choice..........2007-02-24

This compilation is something of a curiosity. While the listing says Greatest Hits: Heart & Soul, the cover clearly reads The Very Best Of T'Pau -- a minor discrepancy, but one that helps to illustrate my lack of enthusiasm for this particular collection. Most of the songs here were indeed hit singles in Europe, but the careless omission of some of their overlooked songs easily disqualifies it from being labeled as the band's very best work.

T'Pau's third album, The Promise, had its best material largely ignored. The title song, as well as A Place In My Heart, Hold On To Love, and Strange Place could have done well on the charts had they been released as singles and would be ideal choices for a compilation such as this. The fact that they are not included here only compounds the injustice of not receiving the attention they deserve.

The best and most comprehensive collection of music by T'Pau is the 17-track disc that is simply titled Greatest Hits. It includes everything on this disc plus the four songs I mentioned and is about as good of an overview of the band as you could ask for. In 2005 it was reissued with the same 17 songs, a different cover, and an even shorter title (Hits), and either one of them would make for a more satisfying investment.

Interesting.......2005-02-01

I just got nostalgic recenlty and went looking for artist and song I remembered from high school. I remember Heart & Soul by T'Pau and look it up and found this. It's interesting because I never heard anything by them after Heart & Soul. I bought this and figure what they heck. It's pretty good. China In Your Hands should have charted in the U.S. it's great and the rest of these songs are pretty good but nothing spectacular. The singer has a great voice. I'd recommend it.

I like this album. It contains 17 tracks with a total playing time of over 70 minutes. I don't have any of T'Pau's other albums, so I don't know if these songs are their best. But I know most of them are good and some are fantastic. I love the "China In Your Hand", "Whenever You Need Me" and "Bridge Of Spies". This is a very good album that I think you will like if you like any of the T'Pau songs you've heard.
