Dude...what were you thinking?.......2006-12-17
Just what was wrong with being the bass player for one of the greatest classic rock bands? Was it Cher? Dude, snap out of it! What would your mother say?
sappy love songs.......2006-09-14
The compositions, Rhythms and singin-style of Peter Cetera sound always the same. He is a typical sappy love song - singer who prefers the love ballads and cheesy love adventures.
it might have been a bit tedious and boring.
The problem is everywhere: If you are a Hardrock fan like bands Uriah Heep, Stevie Ray Vaughan, AC/DC, Rory Gallagher, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, your ears can't be familar with all these silly love songs. My ears cannot work like that.
there are two alternatives:

- if you are a sappy love song fan then please buy this cd !!!
Glory of Cetera........2006-06-19
I recently went through another Chicago phase, and picked-up their "Very Best Of". As I listened to that I realized how much more I liked the Cetera-sung songs, and that two of my favorites were missing. Those were of course "Glory Of Love" and "Next Time I Fall", and not Chicago songs. Hence I got this and got my full Peter Cetera fix. Those are the best songs I'd say, but others do hold up also. I really like "Queen Of The Masquerade Ball", the title track, and the great ballad "Only Love Knows Why". Overall this might not be as great as his former band, but it is good enough for me to own on vinyl, cassette, and CD.
quality music.......2006-02-23
My dad has all of the Peter Cetera cd's and I grew up listening to them in the car- now that I am 18 I really love this music. It has a certain nostalgia to it and reminds me of the good ole 80's and 90's (which is a nice change from current music). Every song is unique, with a different pace and feel. Peter sings great ballads but also has great energetic songs. My favorites include Daddy's girl, They don't make em like they used to, queen of the masquerade ball, and Next time I fall. Honestly I cannot think of a musician to compare Peter Cetera to because his unique voice and style put him in a category of his own.
There are only two songs worth listening to over and over again.......2006-01-05
What's the 4-1-1?
Peter Cetera joined the Chicago Transit Authority (later named Chicago) in 1967 as a bass player. He soon became one of the major songwriters and vocalist for the group, penning a majority of their hits throughout the seventies and eighties. Chicago hit a low point in the late seventies which prompted Cetera to consider a solo career. It was the video music-era that kept Chicago together (for a few more albums at least). Cetera was getting more and more exposure due to the music videos and was becoming a break out star. He released his first solo album in 1981, but stayed with Chicago in 1985. It was the following year that he released the highly successful Solitude/Solitaire.
"Big Mistake" pretty much sums up the pop-rock musical landscape at the time with its bouncing keyboard tones, melodic vocals, and powerful choruses. The guitars have that liquid sound that everyone was looking for to compliment their synths. "They Don't Make `Em Like They Used To" compares a special woman to a one-of-a-kind automobile. I can see Cetera's point here, but the sentiment seems a little corny. The addition of synthesized brass adds great texture to the track. It's more likely than not that you bought this album for "Glory of Love." Who can deny this touching and emotional ballad that was the theme for The Karate Kid: Part II? It fit the movie perfectly, and probably every wedding and prom that occurred that year.
"Daddy's Girl" has one of those keyboard and bass build-ups that lead into a driving chorus section. It was another ballad that helped catapult this album up the charts; "The Next Time I Fall." Amy Grant's (virtually unknown in the pop circle at the time) soft tones complimented Cetera's high-pitched melodic delivery perfectly. On "Solitude/Solitaire," Peter struggles with thoughts of running away from the world where he could never be found. The track is commanded by a strong synthesizer presence.
Cetera went on to release a handful of solo albums, but eventually fell off the face of the Earth. Cetera's vocal talent and musicianship certainly could not be to blame for his trip into obscurity. You can't deny the guy's good. I think it boiled down to two things; his sound had gotten old and dated, and people would rather see him back with Chicago. Cetera wouldn't even talk about the group or allow for his songs to be played during VH1's Behind the Music special on Chicago a few years ago, so I don't think there's a chance of a reunion there.
The Verdict
I've always enjoyed Peter's work in Chicago, but Solitude/Solitaire is a far cry from that (except for the ballads). It's a different sound, a different feel, and not as polished as his later work with Chicago. I'm sure that's what he was going for, but I don't think it was a good choice. Although the album's nine songs are decent, they're only two songs worth listening to over and over again; "Glory of Love" and "The Next Time I Fall."

Wonderful Singer.......2007-07-21
Surely Darlene Koldenhoven has one of the most beautiful female voices in the world. The song selections, the accompanying music and the quality of recording are supurb.
Calming beauty.......2007-05-28
Infinite Voice is one of my favorite albums to pop into the player after a long and difficult day at work. Its soothing lightly classical pieces with Koldenhoven's angelic vocals do much to sooth an agitated spirit and sing peace to the soul. Wonderful Darlene! We need more like this.
A beautiful voice.......2007-04-23
A classically trained vocalist with a Master's Degree in music from the Chicago Conservatory College, the golden voiced Darlene Koldenhoven has participated in a number of high profile pop culture products. In the 1980's she appeared on jazz composer Clare Fisher's Brazilian jazz vocal project, Freefall, which was awarded a Grammy in 1986 for Best Jazz Vocal Performance by a Group. In the 90's she appeared in and served as choir director for both Sister Act films, and in 1994 sung with Yanni Live at the Acropolis, a concert film reportedly seen by nearly 500 million people worldwide. She has also sung on recordings with Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Pink Floyd, Rod Stewart, David Byrne, and Ramsey Lewis, among others, and has authored a set of musical instruction books and CDs entitled Train Your Voice.
In the late 90's Koldenhoven began writing and producing her own solo recordings, including the adult contemporary Keys to the World, a gospel album called Free to Serve, and the Christmas album Heavenly Peace. This year she's back with an all new recording, entitled Infinite Voice, a collection of classically inspired compositions and new age arrangements of classics. Ms Koldenhoven's 5-ocatve voice is the only one featured on this recording, in some places layered to give a choral effect. Most of the instrumentation is synthetic, though several songs include acoustic instrumental performances from guitar, English Horn, oboe, flue, didgeridoo, and percussion.
Infinite Voice is a delicate and beautiful recording that will appeal to fans of light classical vocals from the voices of equally talented singers such as Filippa Giordano, Hayley Westerna, or Sissel.

These songs are instantly recognisable, be it in a different format. This, however, does not detract from the quality or enjoyment of each song. In fact, dare I say it, better than the original recordings!
Not to be missed!
marvelous CD.......2005-10-19
Yes, this CD is a marvelous truly jewel.
Buy it. It worth till the last penny.
The best fan of Peter Cetera.......2002-02-28
Peter Cetera is absolutely the best singer of the world.
Good old stuff, good new stuff.......2000-10-12
This CD is basically a compillation of old and new. The new version of "You're the Inspiration" is great. A little too twangy, though. Peter C. trying to sound country? I thought he was from Chicago. The new "Baby, What a Big Surprise" is also good, but only if you're open to a country-type sound.
I was excited for the new versions of these two songs because I thought they would be very similar to their original Chicago recordings. This is not the case, but the new versions grew on me and I dig them. There are a couple more new tracks that are classic Peter C. All in all, this CD is a good buy.

One of Peter Cetera's Very Best.......2007-06-08
I don't think there is another voice like Mr. Cetera's. This is an absolutely wonderful CD. I love it and I know, if you are a PC fan, you're gonna love it too.
Peter's tenure at Warner Bros. falling down.......2007-02-06
This 1992 release is Peter Cetera's fourth solo album and his final on the Warner Bros. label. He first signed with the label in or around 1981 when he recorded his solo debut followed by his former band Chicago's WB debut CHICAGO 16 the following year. This soft-rocking crooner brings the Top 10 hit RESTLESS HEART and the Top 20 hit ONLY A FOOL CAN SEE. The other songs are good. Cetera's other WB albums include CHICAGO 17(1984),SOLITUDE SOLITAIRE(1986) and ONE MORE STORY(1988). Chicago,a Columbia veteran, continued to record on WB after Cetera left the band in or around 1985.
Have had this on cassette for some time, but wanted to update.......2006-07-14
I have had this album on cassette tape for some time, and decided to update to CD format.
Needless to say, if it wasn't a fine album, I wouldn't have pursued this title CD.
Fabulous as ever!
One of Cetera's best!.......2006-03-25
One of Peter Cetera's best albums! His voice on Last Place God Made and Have You Ever been in Love give me chills every time I play them!
"World Falling Down" is Creative, Innovative and Heartfelt.......2006-02-19
"World Falling Down" cuts right into the depths of human emotion, letting us know just what it means to be human. Peter wrote and recorded this album during an obvious time of personal strife, and all of the ten songs express the pain and despair that is part of human existence. Each song in itself portrays a different version of his pain and sadness, as each song is unique as they are creative. It was hard to choose an all-time favorite on this album, but I seem to have connected with "Where There's No Tomorrow" the most with "Have you Ever Been In Love" running a close second. Having experienced heartbreak and loss within my own personal life, the line "You go your way, I go mine" is probably, to me, the hardest thing to say when it comes to breaking up with someone. Nonetheless, I actually have repeated this line when it was time to part ways with someone, and it was all I needed to say. "Have you Ever Been in Love" has a very deep and reflective tone to it, as Peter tries to come to terms with picking up the pieces after a broken relationship. The line "Have there been times to laugh, and times you really wanted to cry" represent the duality and the irony of love. Love can be both joyful and painful, and one cannot exist without the other. Peter strikes a cord with that line, and it still makes me flush today as it did when I purchased it.
I have owned this CD since its release, and it continues to move me and instill within me that there is light at the end of the tunnel. In my own opinion, Peter seems to be some type of mourning period, but does not seem to be overly-depressed, and he retains the optimism that life (and love) indeed goes on. Nonetheless, I could comment on all of the other songs (which are also fantastic), but I would prefer anyone reading this review (if it is in any way helpful) to judge for themselves just what Peter is expressing here. So sit back, relax, turn up the volume, and listen, for Peter reminds us what it means to be human and just what the beauty (and irony) of what "love" is.

What a big surprise!.......2005-09-21
I was browsing in Walmart's CD section and found this gem at the unbelievable price of $5.88. I saw the track list and inmediately knew for sure that this was going to be a great CD as I know Peter Cetera quality. The CD is just what I expected, his biggest hits updated in an unplugged version backed up with an non obtrusive symphony orchestra. Peter's voice sounds as warm and hearty as it gets and the female guest voice in the duets is great also very respectful of the original female voices in the album's versions. All the hits are here, the guitars sound is polished and while the songs hasn't been changed a lot (that is a very good thing) there are some guitar intros that set you up in the mood to start listening Cetera's voice. Overall, this CD feels like if someone told Cetera to please sing his favorite songs (more with more than 20 years of their release) and he did it with a most surprising excellence, showing both his mature and his still excellent (like the first days) incredible voice and feeling. Ohhh, and with that price, there is absolutely nothing that could go wrong with buying it. You'll be glad you did.
I Can't believe how good this CD sounds!!!!.......2005-03-30
As a fair weather fan of both Chicago and Peter Cetera, I think I can comment with some authority on this CD. I also spent some time during the late 1980's and early 1990's in rock and top 40 radio. Both Cetera and Chicago were still thriving on the charts, with Chicago starting to lose steam. Peter Cetera on the other hand kept chugging away on AC radio. As a guy who grew up on rock radio, I always thought Cetera wanted to be a rocker. His first solo album (Peter Cetera) contains one of the best rock radio songs ever-"Living In The Limelight". A song that has been long forgotten. Cetera also later teamed up with David Gilmore (Pink Floyd guitarist, composer) to create the eery "You Never Listen to Me" from Cetera's album "One More Story". Chicago on the other hand was still hot, but cooling off from the last Cetera project, Chicago 17. Jason Scheff took over for Cetera on vocals, and did some nice work on "Will You Still Love Me?" and "What Kind Of Man Would I Be" from Chicago 18 and the subsequent best of '82-'89 disc. But that would essentially be it for Chicago. They made one last gasp in 1990 with "Chasin' The Wind" with Bill Champlin on vocals. But Chicago was heavily relying on "hot" songwriters to keep them going. Many would say that their post Chicago 17 stuff sounded more reminiscient of Heart or Night Ranger, thanks to the chunky production work of Ron Nevison. Peter Cetera kept on doing what he does best-sing and write great songs. From the Oscar nominated "Glory Of Love" to the haunting, yet optimistic "Restless Heart", Cetera continued to find a home on AC radio. In fact, even when Cetera didn't write the song, he managed to choose well. "Feels Like Heaven" and "After All", both duets, were perfect AC radio fare, and put Cetera's ready made soft rock vocals back to work. Chicago's studio efforts falied to produce much. "Here In My Heart", another Champlin song, became a minor hit from the 30th anniversery greatest hits CD. To Chicago's credit, they continue to tour and sell out most of their shows. In fact last year's pairing with Earth, Wind and Fire was a stroke of brilliance. Both bands have so much in common-and what a catalogue to play from!
But of all the CD's to be released, The Best Of Peter Cetera Live, could be better than anything from Chicago or Cetera to this point. The recording itself is stunning. A combination of Cetera's unplugged band (who are these great guitar players anyway?) and the Salt Lake City Symphony Orchestra-and 5.1 surround sound make this CD glisten. The material here is all good-no fillers. In fact, a Cher impersonation begins "After All", but she is hardly missed as the mystery guest female singer blows the roof off the auditorium. Every song is re-done with more depth than the original. After hearing Jason Scheff sing the older Chicago classics, it was refreshing to hear Cetera's original takes on "Baby What A Big Surprise" and "If You Leave Me Now", 2 Cetera penned classics that both garnered grammies in the late '70's. "25 or 6 to 4" may have been the most ambitious re-working of the show. Cetera and band completely re-arrange this late 60's guitar and horn fest and turn it into pure drama. The result is comparable to what Eric Clapton did to "Layla" on his unplugged CD. But this is better. Robert Lamm's psychodelic lyrics, sung to a full orchestra, and slowed down with shiny acoustics, make for a most memorable song. And that's how this abridged concert offering ends. Probably one of the best CD's I've ever listened to from start to finish. Peter Cetera not only proves he's still relevant, he shows his arranging prowess, as well as his ability to choose the perfect material for an unforgettable and truly wonderful CD. Sure beats singing "Howdy doody", eh Peter?

Truly "The Inspiration!".......2004-05-27
For fans of Peter Cetera, this collection is the hidden gem of his solo career. It includes two excellent tracks that weren't released prior to this album; "Do You Love Me That Much" and "She Doesn't Need Me Anymore." The former received halfway decent airplay, while the latter never got the radio attention it deserved.
This is definitely NOT a "Greatest Hits" collection nor was it intended to be. But, there are some nice remix versions of old favorites. "Baby What a Big Surprise" is particularly good. Also on board is a hard-to-find duet; the haunting "I Wasn't The One Who Said Goodbye" with Agnetha Faltskog.
Bottom Line: This compilation is a must-have for dedicated fans to round out their Cetera collections. The soft, slow theme of the music is especially well-suited for a long drive, or for a spin inside on a rainy day
Missing some classics.......2002-07-03
One of the most distinctive and powerful voices in the music industry, it's a shame that this is the only collection of his solo work so far (not counting the "Greatest Hits" import, which is basically the same songs with a few added on that this version ommitted). I guess I was looking for more of a greatest hits or something, than a B-sides overview that this should be considered as, which is probably why I'm being a bit harsh.
The remakes of the songs he performed with Chicago are OK, but would have been better to have put them in a box set or something, not using up the space of three tracks on an eleven-track disc. The age-old wisdom holds true here, "you don't mess with the classics." I don't fault him for trying to update the sound, it just didn't really fit with what he's been doing as a solo artist.
I enjoyed the duets: "Next Time I Fall" w/Amy Grant; "Feels Like Heaven" w/Chaka Khan; "(I Wanna Take) Forever Tonight" w/Crystal Bernhard--although his voice really overpowers hers; but especially the inclusion of "After All" w/Cher--very happy to see this here. And the new songs were pretty good, too, with "Do You Love Me That Much" grabbing my attention the most.
For a stronger collection, that would brought more satisfaction to his listeners (and probably bigger sales), they should have included "Glory of Love", "Big Mistake", "Daddy's Girl", "Only Love Knows Why", "One Good Woman", "Heaven Help This Lonely Man", "Restless Heart", "Even a Fool Can See", etc. To avoid having to hit the SKIP button you pretty much have to pick up his other cd's and burn your own compilation of favorites.
Some bright spots here--completists will need it for the new songs and "After All" (unless you have the Cher greatest hits cd). Otherwise hope for a future "Best of..." release from Mr. Cetera.
Peter Cetera's Collection.......2002-03-31
Simply a great collection on songs that highlights his talent and a composer and singer.
Ceteras Inspiration.......2002-02-24
I have been a Cetera fan ever since the early days with ChicagoGreat CD the remakes have modern sound with sweet Chicago touch.
CETERAS INSPIRATION.......2002-02-24
A great CD by a great singer. I have been a Cetera fan ever since his early days with Chicago. Even though I missed him from Chicago it is nice to see that his solo career has blossomed into something so great.I think the remakes of the Chicago songs have a modern sound to them but still have'nt lost that sweet CHICAGO touch.

Boy is He Faithful! .......2005-07-04
I remember when Saturday Night Live did a spoof of Irene Cara from Fame singing the theme song from the movie as "Same:" "Same! I sing the same song forever." Maybe Peter should have gone that route instead of this album. I just got through listening to it, and have decided he should never have left Chicago. Sure, it's a nice, slick adult contemporary recording, but it's also the same exact song with different lyrics eleven times in a row. Sometimes he duets with two females who sound exactly alike--Crystal Bernard (Hee-hee-hee, gimmie a break!) and Ronna Reeves, whose unique vocal style even manages to get the authenticity sucked out of it here. Even his remake of the beautiful "Happy Man" from his Chicago days is reduced to an extremely unattractive entrail of itself.
So why 2 stars instead of one? Production quality is key here, and it's nice wallpaper music for wallpapering by. Beside that, it's Peter, and at least his voice is good. Other than that, this is a lackluster piece of offal that I wasted under ten bucks on. My second and last solo Cetera album, I suggest you steer clear of this album unless you find 11 versions of one song entertaining.
faithully.......2005-04-18
just like the other reviewer noted..this is just a reissue of one clear voice this is a super cd i love it..while i was not to thrilled of the remake of "happy man" that wasnt enought to destroy the cd..well i mean it wasnt bad but it doesnt hold a candle to how he orginally did it with chicago back in 1974 but like i said this is an awesome cd get it if you dont have one clear voice
ONE CLEAR VOICE reissued.......2005-04-15
Although the cover says "Recent Recordings by the Original Artist", FAITHFULLY is a budget reissue of the ONE CLEAR VOICE CD, the original issue on River North Records being out of print. It has different artwork than the original and the songs have been reordered. It is a must for fans of Chicago and Peter Cetera, but true fans will already have the original.

Peter Cetera is the BEST modern romantist of our time!.......2004-10-05
This album made me cry! Classic Peter all the way......he was the best during Chicago and still is. As someone else mentioned, in a 100 years, along with Sinatra, they will be playing his love balads. Bravo, PC...Keep up the good work!
Love you always....Terry
PS yes I am over 13 years old, I am 50 tears old
AN ENGLISH GENTLEMANS VIEW.......2003-10-30
Feels like Rain is simply the best song I have ever heard Peter sing it is so him. In 100 years time they will be still playing it. Peter has the best voice in the world. All the tracks lead straight to his broken heart, by God someone hurt him bad! Keep sad Peter, the sadder the better, as you are without doubt the maestro a genius who grew out of the shadows of darkness into the light. God Bless you.
Peter Cetera's Finest Solo Work.......2003-04-19
Peter was on hiatus from recording for a few years before releasing "Another Perfect World". This disc was certainly worth the wait. From beginning to end this recording emerges as his most listenable solo work since leaving the legendary group Chicago.
The opening track "Perfect World" is just terrific, with Peter's golden tenor presenting another trademark infectious melody over a bouncy country-based rhythm section. Some warm horn parts, reminiscent of Chicago, round this tune out nicely.
Peter's obvious Beatles influence is apparent on this CD and jumps right out on the disc's second tune, "Rain Love". By the sixth song, Peter is actually covering a Beatles classic, "It's Only Love", and does the song more than adequate justice.
Other highlights include, "I'm Coming Home", a beautifully-textured ballad and "Have a Little Faith", the finest song on the disc. This is an impeccably crafted tune, with Peter's vocal soaring over lush rhythmic textures, interesting and soulful background vocal sections and again, tasteful, yet subtle, horn charts.
Every song on this disc is a winner.
Welcome Back Peter.......2003-02-09
Too long away, Peter Cetera has delivered a cd which will certainly please his devoted and long-time fans. The horn parts are fabulous, and the inclusion of Lennon's "It's Only Love" benefits from Peter's voice and a great arrangement. If you like contemporary/adult pop or already know of Cetera's music, you won't go wrong with this record. Thanks Peter for the many years of wonderful sounds, both with, and after Chicago.
Glad I Didn't Listen To Some Of You.......2003-01-01
I am so glad that I did not listen to a few of you that did not like this cd. This cd is fantastic and agree with the rest of my fellow Chicago/Cetera fans on that. I went on a gut feeling and went out and bought it. I have never, ever listened to a cd 4 times on the first day bringing it home. Way to go Peter! "Another Perfect World" is now my favorite Peter Cetera cd. I usually count on 1 to 3 songs as being a little weak on any cd, but this is not the case here. Every song is great! I really like Peter's version of the Beatle's classic "It's Only Love". I really do hope that Peter is working on another masterpiece like this one. For those that did not like this one, I am sorry. You probably are not true Chicago/Cetera fans. Now if we could get Chicago back with a new album..................

Customer Reviews:
Great album!.......2004-06-22
It's hard to imagine that a 17-year-old like me at that time actually went out and bought this album--seeing I was really into Alanis Morissette, Green Day and "Hootie"---but I did!
Peter Cetera, in my opinion, is one of the greatest songwriters/singers in the adult comtemporary world these days! Almost a month before my boyfriend and I broke up, we played the song "I Wanna Take Forever Tonight" over and over again!!! We kept talking about how great that song was. Now that we no longer see or talk to each other, this song has a different meaning in my life.
Some of the other songs that Peter Cetera has on this album are just emotional--especially Apple Of My Daddy's Eye. Although it's upbeat in tempo, it's still a great song! I was battling junioritis/senioritis at the time, and had all these fears of leaving high school, going off to college, and being away from my family and friends. And the fact that I'm growing up and moving on with my life really struck a chord on me.
It's still one of my favorites. There are other great ones too! And I am still moved everytime I listen to some tracks off this album!
A few good tracks but mostly formulaic and lacking hooks.......2004-06-18
As big a Peter Cetera fan as I am, this is one album I easily live without. Tracks 1,2,3, and 5 are passable but don't compare favorably to World Falling Down, One More Story, or Solitude/Solitaire. The rest of the album all blends together, lacks any memorable hooks, and is at times unlistenable. It may not be entirely Peter's fault; the production here is consistently uninspired. There are so many wonderful albums in the world. Don't succumb to completism! You don't need this!
Infused with emotion.......2004-01-27
I only recently sat down and LISTENED to this CD. The emotion evoked in so many of these songs is remarkable. The naked longing in "I Wanna Be There" gives me chills. I read in another forum that this album was created at or about the same time as Mr. Cetera's marriage was breaking up... and his music shows it. "And I Think of You," "Faithfully" and "Still Getting Over You" are beautiful and his spin on "Happy Man" is heartbreaking.
Wawazat?.......2002-10-19
Did I read correctly? Did someone say that this is not Peter Cetera's best work? Then how can you explain the fact that 6 of the 11 songs here are featured on his "Greatest Hits" compilation? This release showcases Peter at the height of his creativity. The song-writing and production work here is solid. It's a very mature effort with a great combination of pop-hooks, pulsating rythms, and vibrant emotion. "End of Camelot" and Faithfully" are stand-outs. If there is one Cetera album that will live in your CD player, it's this one!
Very good, but not his best.......1998-11-23
I listen to ONE CLEAR VOICE often. His version of SOS cracks me up as I reminisce about ABBA! I do like the song FOREVER TONITE, and to be honest, if Crystal Bernard was in the room with me, I'd take FOREVER TONITE also!!! Seriously though, as with all of Cetera's work, it's mellow, easy to listen to, and has substance. I do suggest ONE CLEAR VOICE! It's a winner!

Collectible item for Madonna fans.......2006-03-23
Peter Cetera is a good singer. This album reveals all his wonderful singer art, with his favourite sounds and expressful verses ever heard before. Besides this album contains a special appearance in a song called "Scheherazade". The female singer that partecipates to choir is Madonna, even if she appears with a nickname. Collectible item for Madonna fans
Cool album!.......2004-11-30
This album only spawned one Top 20 hit,ONE GOOD WOMAN. Peter Cetera's solo debut SOLITUDE SOLITAIRE sold 4 million copies in the first year since its 1986 release. The follow-up WORLD FALLING DOWN,released in 1992 was more successful than this. Cetera has done very well as a solo artist since leaving Chicago in 1984 or '85.
Peter Cetera's experimental album, of sorts........2004-09-25
As a longtime vocalist in Chicago, then with his own debut solo album - 1986's SOLITUDE/SOLITAIRE - Peter Cetera had a running streak of mainstream pop hits.
Though there was more variation that it may have appeared in his music, most of his big hits were prom-type 80's pop ballads, such as "You're the Inspiration" (which, although I'm a big fan of, many people are not) and the occasional uptempo, rock-influenced number like "Along Came a Woman," "What You're Missing" or "Big Mistake."
On 1988's ONE MORE STORY, however, he attempts to stretch out a bit, teaming up with Madonna producer Patrick Leonard.
1. Best of Times -- This opener is a catchy, mid tempo pop song, with background guitar and a very late 80's production, making it vary a bit from his usual sound. If this wasn't a hit, it should have been.
2. One Good Woman -- The only notable hit to come off here is also the closest in style with Pete's typical sound, but a little more uptempo and rocking. With background piano and guitar, it alternates between a slightly balladic sound, and a catchy 80's pop/rocker dealing with love, a usual topic for him.
3. Peace of Mind -- This is also hit worthy, with a sorta jazzy pop sound mixed in with a mid tempo Cetera track, somewhat in line with, say, "Wake Up to Love".
4. Heaven Help this Lonely Man -- The album begins to detour from his typical sound here. This is a sad, post-breakup ballad with some background orchestration and guitar that manages to be unique.
5. Save Me -- A very uncharacteristic song for him is presented with this slightly hard-edged mid tempo track - sounding almost like an 80's synth version of classic rock - featuring Bonnie Raitt on guitar.
6. Holding Out -- Though this ballad is a bit more what you'd expect to hear from him, it's superior to even some of his past hits of this style. It's a quiet and melodic, slightly upbeat pop song that creates the feeling of a rainy night.
7. Body Language (There in the Dark) -- This is the first of two somewhat similar songs that really begin to vary from Peter's style. This one is the more uptempo of the two, featuring an almost dance club type beat and background guitaring from Pink Floyd's David Gilmour.
8. You Never Listen to Me -- The more ominous of the two songs starts out brooding and dark, with just a piano, a haunting bassline, and Peter's vocals. It soon picks up in tempo a little bit with drumming, but remains the unusually dark vibe throughout. Later on, Gilmour gives an easy listening type of hard rock guitar solo.
9. Scheherazade -- Yet another huge stylistic departure is featured in this eastern sounding (even using sitars and chants) melodic and atmospheric semi ballad, telling the tale of a powerful king who finally falls in love. Madonna herself provides vocals on the song's title.
10. The title track is a sparse and pretty ballad, only featuring background piano and Peter's voice, it's a dedication track to his daughter, which he did on a few of his albums.
In short, I think this album could find fans with a much wider audience than you'd think. Artists like Peter Cetera are much more varied than their current AC image would lead you to believe. The first three tracks, and #6 would probably find favor among his core audience, while the rest may appeal to jazz, classic rock, and even world music fans (i.e. "Scheherazade").
A must for Baywatch-fans! .......2004-08-12
Also for Baywatch-fans this CD from Peter Cetera is
a worth recommendation to their collection.
The CD contains the song "Save Me" that was
the main song in the first Baywatch series (1989/1990).
If you are interested in songs that featured
on Baywatch, you can buy here on Amazon.com the Book: "Baywatch - Rescued from Prime Time".
This book contains all credits from songs/artists
(like Peter Cetera), that you can buy here on Amazon.com
I have added only 4 stars because the sound quality
could have been recorded a little louder.
One of Peter Cetera's Last Great Albums.............2002-10-17
The year 1988 was a very good year and a tough year for me. I was graduating high school that May and starting college that August. That's a lot going on in the life of a 19 year old. But what helped me get thru it was the fantastic music that year had produced. One of my favorite songs of the year was "One Good Woman" by Peter Cetera. I was a freshman in college in Northeastern Oklahoma and I remember hearing that song in the Student Union at the college bookstore. WOW! I automatically knew the voice belonged to Peter Cetera. The melody of this song just takes you away on a journey. It really lets a girl know what the love of "One Good Woman" will do for a man. There are several other good songs on this cd, but this song is still the best yet. Cetera also does a good job on the video of "One Good Woman", with the fade ins and outs the beautiful red rose that starts the video is rather cool and of course the clock tower that fades in and out of the background give it a very European wintery feel. The video kind of reminds you of "Next Time I Fall", with Cetera and Amy Grant. One More Story is a very good album, not as great as "Solitude Solitaire", but hey it's still Cetera's last great music of the 80's. If your a true Peter Cetera fan, you must own this classic cd!
