Just two albums in, and Further Seems Forever seems destined to be known as the band that launched Chris Carrabba’s solo career. Too bad. The Dashboard Confessional frontman may have provided the vocals for the band’s debut, The Moon Is Down, but with newly recruited singer Jason Gleason, the Florida band has developed into a dynamic unit, imbuing its hardcore roots with thoughtful lyrics and incredibly elaborate song structures. How to Start a Fire showcases a set of well crafted, expertly played rock tunes, particularly the inspirational title track, "Pride War," and "Insincerity as an Art Form." The band would probably shudder at the thought of being labeled the emo Genesis, but it’s honestly a compliment to Further Seems Forever’s precision guitar work and dramatic flair. --Aidin Vaziri

5 out of 5 stars Melodically enhanced emo influenced pop.......2006-07-06

Compared to all the various cookie cutter emo/posthardcore/alt rock bands, this is superior in almost every way. Some of the best melodic layered guitar playing you'll here, and the vocals are very powerful. I can't say that I prefer this to the Moon is Down (Hide Nothing doesn't count, even though the guitars were top notch as usual) because they are both great albums. FSF has always been one of my favorite summer bands, and I'm pissed that they broke up (despite the new vocalist). I still find comfort and great pleasure in blasting this cd while driving. Try I AM, AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT, PRIDE WAR, THE SOUND

5 out of 5 stars Incredible - not emo - not any genre - just AMAZING.......2005-12-13

This is by far the most underrated album ever created in modern rock. It is highly experimental, using a lot of distortion, the bass, the twanging layered guitars, the beautiful melodic screaming interchanged with singing (NOT ECHO SCREAMING, this is a MUCH better method, think glassjaw). Think sunny day real estate fused with glassjaw.

The lyrics. Oh my god. These lyrics are HIGHLY poetic, they are beautiful, they will inspire you, and they will ignite you, incite you. I am not kidding. Let me repeat. This is by far the most underrated album in all of modern rock.

The musicianship is incredible. The bass, the guitars, the drums, and the VOCALS are by far the standout here. Jason Gleason has one of the most beautiful screams in rock. Check him out, he sings for ActionReaction now, but this stuff is by far him at his very prime.

If you are a lover of rock at all, of beautiful lyrics, and just overall good music, I cannot through words express how good this album is. Pick it up. Every song is highly experimental, and just plain amazing.

5 out of 5 stars oh the mood.......2005-07-19

I personally liked this album much better than The Moon is Down. You can clearly see the over all tone of the band changing and the new lead singer compliments this very nicely. What I loved about this album is the over all mood that it creates. The flow of the songs on the album is near flawless. The songs however well they may flow still have a unique sound. My favorites being How to Start a Fire and Pride War.

Also I hope that you're not turned off by the fact that this is a Christian rock band. I had owned the CD for about a month before one of my friends told me (hey they swear in one of their songs). I say that if you liked The Moon is Down, or Dashboard pick this album up you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2005-04-06

I'm not really a big emo fan, but God I love this cd. The new cd Hide Nothing isn't really all that great to me and the first cd with Chris Carraba is good, but I definitely give this one the top honors. The lyrics, musicianship and all around emotion on this album is incredible. The singer, Jason, I think is his name puts so much into each song and the emotion in his voice is what really makes it. I honestly can't believe they got rid of this guy. Anyways my personal Favorites are Pride War, On Legendary, How To Start A Fire, and The Sound, which has one of the best chorus' of any song I can think of. A great add for your Cd collection if you can appreciate good music and aren't ingorant to a particualar type of music. Most people who either can't play an instrument or create their own music fall into that category and can't stand anything that's not their genre of music, so for all of the people out there who actually know talent firsthand then you'll love the cd.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favorite overall cds.......2005-04-01

each song is done with so much passion. the lead singer is definitely the best of the three. he ushers in so much energy. this cd is defintely underappreciated. productionwise, it is a lot better touched-up than the first cd. the electric guitars are so crunchy and the bass/drums are so thick.

a majority of people like the first one best. i like it a lot but i would put this one slightly above. musically it is probably the best of FSF's career, mixing together creative musicianship and very well-done production. also, this one's lyrics are so heartwrenching and honest, and so deep. the guy is an excellent lyricist. some border on eccentric.. like "sharks keep moving never stopping"... but some are utterly beautiful. On Legendary is my favorite.. Against My Better Judgment is driving and catchy. Pride War plays a lot with meter, switching into weird random meters of 7 that make it interesting. Insincerity as an Artform musically is intense and passionate.

you will love this cd unless you have no heart.
