After years of playing with the Allman Brothers Band, guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody left the ensemble to focus on Gov't Mule. On their third album, Gov't Mule broaden their direction and expand the sonic possibilities of a power trio. Echoing threesomes like the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream, Gov't Mule play modern blues-rock with exuberance and style. Haynes's proficiency on the guitar allows for exploration in a variety of musical idioms. He plays with fiery precision and his soulful voice is gruff and expressive. Besides original material, the band covers the country-blues classic "John the Revelator," written by Son House, and rework The Beatles' "She Said She Said."

Album Description
The Daily Dose CD is recommended as a great beginning to every morning whether listened to at home or first thing in the office. The objective is to target and focus one's thoughts to create the reality one would like to manifest. By tuning in to this meditation for 20-minutes each day, Freston contends productivity can be increased. She says: "By taking 20-minutes each day to focus on your desires you will not only reduce stress in your life, but increase creativity and improve your communication skills and productivity." Through gentle, step-by-step voice instruction and the powerful tool of creative visualization, Kathy brings the listener to a place of security and openess from which change can occur, transforming our reality by first creating a shift in our internal energy. Bill Laswell's music is featured in the background as Freston's soothing voice narrates.

Not Really Relaxing..........2007-02-21
I really enjoyed some of Kathy Freston's other CDs and thought I would feel the same about this one, but I have to say it is not of the same quality.
She talks really fast and in a very monotone voice which is not at all condusive to meditation. Maybe the producers thought the fast pace would sound more motivational, but it's just annoying.
There is good material here (which is why I rated 2 stars) but the delivery is very poor.
No Magic Here - Save Your Money.......2006-12-21
I bought this CD based on the stellar reviews (and despite the fact that it is HUGELY overpriced - a 20 minute CD should cost no more than $7-8 dollars. Or there better be bonus material!) and was very disappointed for many reasons. Kathy Freston writes a great book, but she doesn't know how to make a meditation CD. I've been listening to meditations for over 10 years now (back when they were on tape!) and so feel that I can comment on what usually works. Firstly, Freston has a lovely voice, but she 1) talks like she's reading from a script - very quickly - and with little or no intonation. Her near monotone is hard to take - especially when she says: "Prepare for a a Miracle" in a very deadpan manner and then rushes into the next idea so you can't take that in. I just couldn't get over the monotone - it was almost rushed, with no enthusiasm. A real surprise. And talking too fast is NOT relaxing; it forces the listener to work harder to keep up. It provides no opportunity for the listener to absorb what's being said and allow their own images and feelings to appear. 2) she also talks through 99% of the CD, which, again, leaves little or no room for silent reflection or for answers to the questions she asks to pop into one's mind. She jumps right in and offers answers of her own, as well as expository information that is best left for the introduction to the meditation, not the meditation itself. The constant chatter stands in for our own Monkey Mind, which we're supposed to be getting away from! In her defense, I'll say that this seems to be a trend these days - those leading the meditations seem to love the sound of their own voice and talk constantly, leaving no gaps for silence, which is very important to have in meditation. Those guiding the meditation seem to forget there is a listener who, as in any 'conversation,' deserves their time to 'speak.' In our case we, as the one being guided, should be given regular pauses to silently fill in our side of the conversation with whatever rises up into our minds to be processed or to inspire us. Otherwise, it's very much one-sided. 3) the music is often SO loud, it starts to eclipse her voice and I had to struggle to pick out what she was saying. Again, not very relaxing. It's too bad, because she has some great ideas and visuals in this meditation, but she doesn't create a quiet, restful, relaxing environment in which to process and experience them. If you want a good meditation, try those by Mary Maddux, who also does ALOT of talking, but has a soothing, quiet voice - she speaks slowly, with inflection, and the music is very much in the background. Otherwise, save your money, or use this as merely an informational CD. Perhaps rerecord the meditation in your own voice, at your own speed, and listen to it that way.
Message keeps you focused.......2005-05-23
Kathy's voice, the music and the script blend together to make a wonderful meditation tape. She speaks throughtout the tape which I have learned to love. This helps keep my ADD mind focused and gives the meditation an intent. Other Meditations attempt to train you to empty your mind. Kathy guides you to relax and then foucs on your spirt and what you truly want and then encourages images that intensify your intention. I feel her method keeps me very focused and it stays with me all day.
Best Meditation CD.......2004-07-27
I've tried quite a few, and though all have something good to offer (any attempt at meditation is a good start), I find Kathy's CDs to be most productive. I don't know what it is ~ her voice, the music mix, carefully chosen words ~ but I respond to Kathy quickly and easily, making the time I set aside for meditation more efficient. She comes across like a spiritual friend, gently guiding your intention to work in your favor. Once you learn to stop sabotaging yourself, you discover how powerful intent truly is.
I try others, yet always come back to Kathy's CDs. That says something.
this keeps me honest.......2002-06-05
I did work from the other cd meditations and keep it fresh with a meditation every day. I think this cd is an excellent way to remain consistent with the important breakthroughs you can achieve with the others. It makes me feel like beginning each day with a smile!

Album Description
K'naan, former refugee, now based in Toronto makes music that is a mixture of hip hop, African beats and world music intertwined - combining African drums, chants, handclaps, guitars and organic instrumentation sets this album outside the hip hop herd. K'naan creates music with a message. Leaving Somalia at the age of thirteen on what turned out to be the last commercial flight ever to do so, amidst a crumbling society and the end to this day of any form of central government K'naan carried with him a very strong sense of purpose as well as his amazing lyrical gift, which has made him a beacon for other artists a well as those dedicated to global change. Canada only release! With his unique voice and truly authentic style, K'naan brings an enormous dose of realness and urgency to the hip-hop world in a time when people are desperate for it. From a personal and cultural history rooted in poetry (being the grandson of one of Somalia's most famous poets), K'naan widens the traditional hip-hop perspective. Discovered and produced by Track & Field, same producers that discovered and produced Nelly Furtado, Dusty Foot Philosopher is comprised of 18 total tracks including 'Smile', 'My Old Home', 'In The Beginning', 'Voices In My Head', 'Wash It Down', 'Hoobaale', 'Rap Gets Jealous' and more. BMG. 2005.
Album Details
Negotiating his Way Forcefully Through a Gritty Sandstorm of Spoken-word and African Instrumental Interludes, K'naan Brings Us a Collection of Funky, Original Backgrounds Nearly as Weighty as the Cautionary Words that Float above Them. In his Liner Notes, K'naan Recounts a Nearly Fatal Incident Involving a Live Grenade which He and a Couple of his School Friends Discovered in their Classroom in Mogadishu, Somalia. While Playing with the Mysterious Object, which Initially Looked Like a Potato, the Grenade's Pin Slipped. Throwing it as Fast and as Far as He Could, the Destructive Object Lay to Ruin Much of the Empty Building. Thankfully, No One was Hurt. Then Only Ten Years Old, K'naan (Whose Name Means "The Traveller" in Somalian) Credits that Event as the Watershed Moment which Led Him to Become a Writer.

Addictive and thought-provoking.......2007-07-07
Everyone will have their own opinion, but in my opinion (which is the best! : * ) this is the best CD I've purchased in a long time. If you like Arrested Development, Donnie, Stevie Wonder, India Arie or anybody who's not just singing or rapping for the sake of filling airtime, you'll love it. In The Beginning makes me dance, Hoobaale makes my think and sing at the same time, and What's Hardcore makes me laugh at the stupidity of mainstream hip-hop "gangstas". I love it.
Phenominal.......2006-12-16
I generally listen to reggae and have recently gotten into more Hip-hop and Rap. So, while I may not have the best perspective on this type of music, I will put it simply: this album blew me away. I really can't put my finger on it, but K'naan is fantastic. He is clever, angry, poetic, lyrical, and contemplative all at the same time. Besides the rythims, beats, etc., which are great, K'naan is able to give the listener a picture of whatever he's rhyming about, literally a picture in your mind. And, this is fundementally positive rap, hard to find no doubt, and it also makes you want to stand up a move around. I recommend this album to any fan of music, and I anxiously await K'naan's sophmore attempt.
Refreshing, innovative, dynamic.......2006-11-27
I normally don't go for hip hop and I hardly ever give 5 stars, but quality trumps genre any day, and this is some great stuff. Musically influenced by hip hop beats and his native Somalia, he manages to keep them successfully distinct. When he does merge them, it is with skill and style and wit. Too often merged styles end up sounding muddy, but not here.
The lyrics are poetic. He deals with some very serious subjects, but manages to inject humour and pragmatism without cheapening the message.
Finally, the album works well as a whole, not just a collection of songs, though you'll probably want to add some singles to your playlists.
Enjoy!
Masterfull.......2006-10-19
I had a chance to see K'naan at the Breedlove Tour with Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharaoh Monche and Jean Grey and let me tell you he rocked the show. I had the chance to meet him after the show as he was selling his beautiful album at the back of the Fillmore in Denver and what a guy. Humble, kind, very down to earth. His music expresses the hardships of leaving his homeland and the unimaginable pain of living in modern day Somalia. His music expresses the frustration and anger about his homeland but also brings hope about the future, as well as awareness as most people especially in the U.S. have no idea what is going on over there because CNN and other corporate media just cover it as a rogue state. K'naan puts the human element in his music and expresses it beautifully. Great all around CD, original beats, lyrics, and well put together. Keep on fighting K'naan wherever you are.
Overwhelmingly Beautiful and Poetic!.......2006-10-04
I'm an East African who grew up right over the border from Somalia and even then, I've never heard anyone say anything about Somalia other than rehashing CNN's point of view. It was always just a "messed up" place and nothing else. Finally this young brother speaks with such passion about the life and people that LIVE there...despite the turmoil and everything else there is LIFE and LOVE and K'Naan does such a phenomenal job getting that across. Listening to his tracks you can feel the pain, the frusteration, the hope...everything. He also acknowledges that just because he's no longer in a war-torn country doesn't automatically mean that life is great, a thought rarely discussed when it comes to refugees. It's often assumed and believed that we've done them all a great huge favor by removing them from their country...and while it's obviously better not to live under the fear of death, there's also the fact that generally people prefer to live in their home surroundings with the people they love and are familiar with. Migration, even to the lands of milk and honey in the west, is a HUGE sacrifice. Bravo K'Naan! This CD is a major contribution to Africa's history and to the masses whose thoughts and feelings are rarely acknowledged in an affirming an unbiased manner. An ESSENTIAL piece to anyone's library!

GOV'T MULE - 70% ROCK + 10% METAL + 10% BLUES + 5% JAZZ + 5% SOUL = INCOMPARABLE ORIGINALITY.......2007-02-03
What do you get when you combine a living legend of a guitar player, with a supremely talented bass player respected among the world's best bass players, and a flat-out awesome drummer? Possibly the best power trio of all time, and one hell of an *$$ kickin' "Mule"! Think this praise is unfounded and just my personal opinion? Think again!
Warren Haynes, a living legend, has rightly been proclaimed one of the best guitar players of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine. Warren is the premier Blues/Rock guitarist and has played guitar on dozens of albums, not only as a solo artist and for Gov't Mule, but also for other legendary bands and artists.
Matt Abts is a Grammy Nominated drummer and has received multiple first place drumming awards from respected drumming publications. His drumming on this album can only be described as spectacular.
Allen Woody - Unfortunately Gov't Mule's next studio album was the last album bassist Allen Woody performed on. In August of 2000 Allen Woody unexpectedly passed away. As a fitting tribute and show of respect about two dozen of the world's best bass players assumed Allen's duties on Gov't Mule's following two albums. These bass players included Les Claypool, Jason Newstead, Flea, Roger Glover, John Entwistle, Bootsy Collins, Phil Lesh and Dave Schools. Gov't Mule's first two albums are their hardest/heaviest, and in my opinion their best. They have yet to put out an album as outstanding as when Woody was with the band. Woody was an irreplaceable piece of the Mule, and is certainly missed by all. RIP Woody.
Now, Gov't Mule has been one of my favorite bands for years, but I was surprised to learn that Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently stated that Gov't Mule IS his favorite band. I would have guessed that James would have named a classic band from the 70's, or possibly one of his contemporaries as his favorite band. But it's obvious James has an understanding of what exceptional Rock is, and appreciates listening to music from seasoned and truly talented musicians, not some cr*p from a "flavor of the month" band. If you are a fan of Rock/Metal and listen to Gov't Mules first two albums and fail to understand how good they are, either you are pretty young and should probably not stray to far from listening to your Linkin Park and Godsmack, or you simply have no true grasp of what excellent Rock music performed by talented musicians is. This fact is not arguable.
GOV'T MULE'S BEST...........2006-09-01
WITH THIS THEIR SECOND STUDIO RELEASE, GOV'T MULE TAKES IT'S HEAVY BLUES ROCK TO A NEW LEVEL. WHILE MULE'S FIRST RELEASE HAD A LIVE FEEL TO IT, THIS ONE IS MORE OF A STUDIO ALBUM THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO TAKE CHANCES WITH. GREAT SONGS AND GREAT PLAYERS. WARREN HAYNES, ALLEN WOODY AND MATT ABTS ARE IN TOP FORM ON THIS ALBUM. IF YOU WANT GREAT BLUES ROCK WITH TOP NOTCH PLAYING, THIS IS THE CD TO GET.
Good Three Piece Jam Band!.......2006-02-16
I enjoyed this jam band Gov't Mule, with their third album under way they split the airway for pre-existing three piece bands such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Cream. This is a blues rock jam band that really symbolizes good music, which is really live music in the studio. All of the songs carry on to some extent from the beggining notes to Blind Man in the Dark, to I Shall Return this is considered to be one of the least favorite Gov't Mule albums. This is the first Gov't Mule album I bought so I was not sure what to expect but from what I heard I believe this deserves 4 stars none more none the less. If you really want to dig deep into the band Gov't Mule check out their entire catalog and then you can be the judge on the band since im not the most experienced on this band!
A Yawn and a Shaking of the Head.......2005-07-26
This is one of the most bland and boring blues/rock CDs I have ever heard. There's nothing here that hasn't been done better by a hundred other bands. Power trio? You've got to be kidding! There are way too many holes in the music. I was playing music by Cream, Hendrix, and Mountain back in 1970. I know what a power trio is. I just don't understand the fascination with this CD or this band. Pass this one by.
troyez.......2005-06-01
Ever since I first heard "Blind Man in the Dark," on the radio in 1998 I knew this Mule thing would be great. I knew Warren and Woody from the Allman Brothers and knew they were great, but when they stepped out with Gov't Mule it was like a breath of fresh air for me. This album was the first Mule album I bought (and wore out) and it rocked my musical foundations. It is a must buy in my opinoin. I have seen Mule three times now, met them once (before Woody died), and would kill to see them again - my point is that this album changed the musical landscape for me. Go and see the Mule live (if you haven't yet) and support the boys in person.

Great CD.......2007-04-07
I remember when I 1st got this cd a loooooong time ago. I was upset how I thought it sucked, I really didn't care for it besides like three tracks. One day...well night I had nothing to do so I took my iPod and got the lyrics out and just listen to the whole cd through while reading the lyrics. That I think just helped me made me understand the album even more then when I 1st listen to it and just skimed the lyrics a few times and just listening to it whileplaying video games, reading, or whatever. This is a great solid cd. If your a fan of heavy metal then you really need to check out this cd. I highly recomend getting this cd.
Some Sympathy.......2006-09-22
As an album it's very repettitive kinda punkish metal, but also compared to Use Once and Destroy it's even worse. I was skeptical when Phil made a new band, but with the release of Use Once and Destroy I had no need to worry until now. I really don't think this band'll go anywhere compared to Down and Pantera. I love Phil as a metal vocalist and hey with these guys he sounds even heavier, but everything's just to basic.
Good stuff........2006-02-15
1,2,1,2,3,4.
This CD is my favorite Sesame Street recording. Phil Anselmo counts off songs like he's Count Dragula.
Never mind that.
This album is the greatest thing to come out of New Orleans since exposing yourself in public.
I give this CD 5 stars, but who's counting.
Good hardcore.......2006-02-09
Many music fans are quick to dismiss Phil Anselmo's side projects because they hastened Pantera's break-up. But once you really give Superjoint Ritual a shot, and realize that this band's sound is quite different from Phil's other bands (like Pantera), you will probably come to enjoy "A Lethal Dose of American Hatred" quite a bit. This is a good hardcore album; it's full of meaty, Sabbath-y, doom-y riffs, pounding drums, and howling vocals. Several of these tracks (i.e. the blistering and ultra-heavy "Permanently") crush anything on "St. Anger," and are easily among the best metal songs of 2003. Songs like "Dress Like A Target" and "Stealing A Page Or Two From Armed & Radical Pagans" (catchy title!) feature lurching riffs which sound tailor-made for headbanging, thumping drums, and Phil's constipated grunting. Other highlights include the heavy, grooving guitars and strangulated howl on the album opener, "Sickness," the almost buzzsaw riffs on "Personal Insult," and "Never To Sit Or Stand Again" (which has a few really long, tortured yells and a pounding rhythm). The album, as a whole, is too short, and many of the songs begin the same way (with Phil counting "One, two, three..."), but all in all, it's a very solid release. And if you're craving a dose of Phil, and you don't yet own this album...what are you waiting for?!
Are you kidding me.......2005-09-22
I read these reviews first then I listened. In no way can I take seriously a discussion of musical style or lyric content concerning this disc. Vocal quality ... there is no quality no talent needed to produce that gutteral nonsensical sound. Musicianship, none is present here. Lyric ... simplistic deluded are the only words to describe.

For the "Burning Shark" idiot.......2006-09-12
The music here is classic Great White, as only Great White has the balls (or the talent) to cover the majority of these songs, without a straggling member of Led Zep present. Nothing more to say; here, the music does all the talking.
As for the cover art, it is a classic play on Led Zeppelin I, where the Hindenburg is seen striking the aerial tower, igniting into a ball of flame. Since this is Great White covering Led Zeppelin, it is a clear mixture of a great white shark, combusting the same as the lead zeppelin aircraft did... idiot!
Study your history, and your classic albums.
Disc one is Amazing !.......2006-05-05
Disc one gets the led out in a big way even though such classics as Black Dog, The Ocean, Misty Mountain Hop and Rock N' Roll are missing. Even though those tracks aren't here, I still can't get enough of this Zeppelin tribute from a great band in their own right. Basically, disc one is amazing.
Disc two, I could have gone forever and never missed hearing this. The song selection is odd and the band doesn't seem to be putting their own signature on any of these tracks. That approach is fine if you're covering Led Zeppelin. But, when you are determined to bring to light an entire batch of material that isn't as strong as what is found on disc one, then it really disappoints.
Not A Bad Collection.......2006-04-08
In a previous review of this album, a reviewer claimed the album cover features a burning shark. That is bollocks. I have the cd, and the cover isn't anything special. Just a shark in the water.
The music is great. They did a good tribute to Zeppelin as well as many other bands on the second disc. This is essentially two Great White releases packaged together. The first being Great White's live tribute to Zeppelin titled "Great Zeppelin". The second disc is their covers cd called "Recover".
For the price, you can't beat it.
Good songs, bad package........2005-03-28
Great White is a great rock n'roll band and their covers of Zep and others ARE worth checking out, but these tracks are available on two seperate discs already making this release needless, as well as in bad taste with the cover (which Amazon says is not an available image), and questionable. The band, and those who lost their lives in Rhode Island deserve better. There are other questionable releases the band is fighting against, so check out their official website before purchasing anything.
Well worth it for a great bunch of covers.......2005-01-07
There is no orignial tracks from Great White on this 2 disc set, but it is probably the best covers cd around. The First disc is a live concert of all Led Zeppeiln material recorded in 1996. The sound is incredable! Some tracks are better than the the mighty Zep themselves. The conclussion is much of the same with cuts that cover The Cult, Bob Dylan, Badfinger, Bad Company, and much more. I love this collection because of the variety of the music and it is all done by one great band(no pun)

A LETHAL DOSE OF HARD PSYCH.......2000-07-24
A very good compilation of obscure american psych groups of the mid 60s and early 70s.Every song has a fuzz guitar sound to it and the usual garage/psych ramblings of the faceless groups featured on this collection. Each song featured has informative notes on it even though some have only a couple of lines, the covers quite colorful but the only thing that lets it down is the black and white photo on the front, but I bought this collection due to the obscurity of the acts featured and to add to my collection of obscure psych.

Why are these guys still playing the bar circuit?.......2003-02-18
I just saw these guys open for Ratt in Mpls. and I can't explain why they are still playing for an independent label. This CD along with their follow-up In Flagrante' Delecto are two of the best CD's I own and I've only been a fan for going on 3 days now. They have a strong metal sound that will bring you back to metal's glory days of the late 80's early 90's, and vocals that you have to hear to believe. Unlike a lot of metal bands who play with distortion pedals to cover up the shoddy guitar work, these guys can actually play, and it comes across on every track.
My Recommendation... Buy this CD, You won't regret it!
The whole CD is excellent!!!.......1999-10-12
This CD is one of the best CD's I have purchased in a long time and I buy a lot of music. To everyone out there, you have to check this one out.
an awesome cd, a must for any rockers collection........1999-08-21
I have seen this band about a dozen times locally, all i can say is they have great talent, and actually sound better live. I love the CD, but feel that it does not bring enough justice to the real talent of this band. If you think Ricks vocals are great on the cd, you must see him live...he has a remarkable voice, and reminds me a lot of Geoff Tate of Queensryche...This cd has it all, from hard rock to ballads...Fathers Eyes is a masterpiece both in lyric and musical content and trust and betrayal just plain old rocks...pick up this cd, you will not be dissapointed....
These guys really know to rock in the 90's - Metal Is Back.......1999-05-13
Every song on here is top notch. Its metal from the 1990's with an 80's metal sound. Trust and betrayal is one of my personal favs but its so hard to choose just one or two because the cd never stops rockin you get songs like if we try, deep inside, fathers eyes to name a few but the cd as a whole is just totally awsome (5 stars all the way) This cd is a must for the typical head banger to the most serious headbanger. Believe me this cd will be played alot when you buy it.
This CD Rocks. Kent and Rick are Awesome........1999-04-23
Pavlov's Dogs is a kick-ass, rocking CD that anyone who calls themself a rock fan should own. Buy it today.

Customer Reviews:
Great psych comp.......2002-09-19
This is quality product for those interested in obscure late 60's psychedelic music -- great packaging, informative liner notes, and (most importantly) uniformly good material from the various groups. Some highlights: a proto-techno rethinking of the blues classic "Baby please don't go" by Ballroom, Chris Carpenter's insane "This world is closing in on me," JK & Co.'s achingly beautiful "Fly," wanna-Beatles Wildflowers' "More than me," and The Fourth Way's "The far side of your mind," which was described by someone as sounding like soundtrack music from Barbarella. Cool.
A solid collection, as good as any.......2002-01-28
I have about ten CDs of rare psych compilations and a system of rating each track. This compilation is excellent. Like such compilations, don't expect to be immediately tripped out by each track. However, there are almost no truly weak tracks here. Some aren't stereotypically "psychedelic", but they are all enjoyably packed full of distinctive character, whether melancholy, haunting, odd, or offbeat. Also get the more stereotypically heavy-psych companion: "An Overdose of Heavy Psych". I strongly and confidently recommend both.
