5 out of 5 stars KICK'S FU*KIN" ASS.......2007-02-28

This is on of the best new cd's I've heard in a long time!!! Rock with humor a true rock classic. You can play it all day long and never get tired of it!!!!

4 out of 5 stars The Next G 'n R? Try The Next Turbonegro.......2006-12-14

Don't know much about this band other than they're from Vancouver, BC and they have the only cool MySpace page I've ever seen. They look pretty goth metal but they're more punk than metal. Like my title says, Crystal Pistol's a lot like Turbonegro or the Hellacopters, which is great in my book. Most of their songs are fast, explosive and short, like the best punk rock.
Best songs: All The Freaks, Live Fast, Rockstar, Shake, Locomotive.
Only beef I have about the record is that it docked at 36 minutes. That would be skimpy even by old school vinyl album standards.

1 out of 5 stars damn!.......2006-11-04

i had high hopes for this cd. coolest cover i've seen in ages and great name. cant say that i enjoyed one song though. i bet they are awesome live but this recording did not capture that. the only thing that stuck in my head was their name which i love.

5 out of 5 stars raunch.......2006-06-03

Miks voice is raunch, and the riffs are addictive. Amazing songs live and on CD. Best rock album of 2005. I'm not in the band, as the guy below assumes other reviewers are. These guys have a ravenous following in some parts of Canada and Europe - the five star reviews are not a surprise. I don't think any of the guys know how to turn on a computer...

2 out of 5 stars Now that the band members have spoken a REAL review.......2006-04-20

Its obvious the band has been writing the other reviews.

Let me say up front I'm not here to trash the band and the album is good enough but its not great. The sound, the playing, its all your standard and passable product. However this band is pretty dated and insincere. It sounds to me like they are putting on a big front, trying to be cool, trying to be Motley Crue. What we end up with is a well produced collection of "heard it all before".

This band did create a buzz for themselves and hats off to them for that. However they wear thin after 3 songs as the "homage" to Motley crue wears thin. From the lyrics to the licks just about everything has been taken from one 80's song or another. The band members are all about 40 and noticably so (I've seen them live, yikes) I guess that explains the 80's over, under and in the middle tones. This band read "The Dirt" then tried to be Motley Crue. However they just arent as cool or real as Motley Crue were in their beginnings.

That said the 80's were fun and this band can be fun for a little while. Nothing really memorable and no emotion whatsoever. A 2006 version of say Tuff, Black and Blue, etc in the 80's. Decent songs but you can predict whats coming next and each song is very formula standard. Nothing got me emotionally hooked on the whole disc. The production is the best part of the album.

Amazon couples this with Kill Chearleader which is a way better album but with poor production. If only Kill Cheerleader got the Crystal Pistol production. Then we'd have something.

Product Description

Blasts of melodic energy, swaggered with distortion and noise, thrashed out at top speed. An intense tremor of the hardcore punk explosion, crash landing into a Tulsa, Oklahoma Cowboy bar in 1983 on "Punk Night". No nonsense, straight-forward hardcore punk rock, soaked and steeped in enough rock and '77 catchy punk to surface hooks, choruses and melody amisdst the blur. Recorded live in 1983, this was originally released as NONE OF THE ABOVE ( N.O.T.A.)'s demo tape.

5 out of 5 stars brings back fond memories.......2002-11-16

Never mind the garbage that the Corporate Media tries passing for Punk Rock! This CD brings back fond memories when Punk was Not on MTV! This music is "old school" and 20 years later it can still get your toe tapping!
A time when we didn't refer to the Pit as a "mosh Pit"!

5 out of 5 stars A Tulsa Tradition.......2001-07-11

NOTA was the one. I saw them multiple times during the early 80's and they OWNED the scene. Everyone who saw them knew what a phenomenon they were. This album gives you the opportunity to hear them at their top level. There are very few copies of their early records (toy soldiers, moscow) but this cd offers even more, a glipse of their live show.

4 out of 5 stars NOTA-Punk Gods from Oklahoma!.......2001-04-05

I saw these guys live several times in the early 80's and they typically stole the show from numerous headliner acts. NOTA had an extremely fresh sound for 1982 and several of the songs still sound original today, especially tunes like Night Stick Justice, Moscow, Toy Soldiers, and Propaganda Control. Some of the other tracks sound a little played simply because the genre has run its course. NOTA was very critically acclaimed in their day. I remember one of the progressive record labels released an international compilation of punk bands from around the world and NOTA was selected with the Crucifux to represent the US. This was quite an honor because there were over 100 bands in contention.

This is a must have record for any true hardcore punk fan. The songs are fast, furious, and full of the hate that could only be supplied by a few out cast punks living in Bible Belt Oklahoma during the Reagan years.

The bass and guitar lines are great. The recording quality is poor-but that is how true punk is supposed to sound. The band did tack on 2 studio tracks at the end of the regular record and these are probably the weakest tracks on the album.

It was great to hear NOTA again. If you like any of the classics of true hardcore such as D.R.I., MDC, The Offenders, Raw Power, etc. then you will need this for your collection.
