On his first album of new material since 1996, Phil Collins's crisp voice returns to the forefront, as does the booming rhythmic grooves and rich melodies. After taking time out to record his big-band tribute, A Hot Night in Paris, and the Tarzan original soundtrack, the former Genesis drummer-turned-frontman seek out more familiar territory on Testify. Collins successfully updates his soft rock sound with discreet electronic embellishments and spartan arrangements. It's simple stuff, but it's what Collins does best. Most intriguing is his silky cover of Billy Nicholls's "Can't Stop Loving You" (originally recorded by Leo Sayer on his 1978 self-titled album), but even originals like the effervescent "Wake Up Call" and the shadowy "Swing Low" echo the ambitious reach of his most popular work. --Aidin Vaziri

The Perfect Summary of Avalon's First Seven Years..........2007-05-04
That sentence has probably been said by a lot of people regarding the arrival of one of Christian music's biggest phenomenons: AVALON. The vocal quartet, known for their smooth harmonies, has received:
Twenty-five Dove Award Nominations
Three Dove Awards
Three GRAMMY nominations
An American Music Award
Two RIAA-certified Gold albums
Over 3.5 million albums sold
Twenty #1 hit singles (Sixteen of which are featured on this album)
Several television appearances
and more.
Although Avalon has been lavished with success throughout the past 12 years, they are definitely familiar with sorrow and misfortune. (They've had more success than misfortune!) They've had several member changes, as Nikki Hassman-Anders, Cherie Adams, and Michael Passons have all left the group. That's not including Jody McBrayer, who just recently announced that he will be leaving the group as well in January of 2008 due to heart disease.
However, seven years after they began, Avalon released in 2003 "Testify To Love: The Very Best of Avalon" a collection of sixteen of their #1 hits. Smashes include:
"Give It Up" - the first we heard from Avalon
"Testify To Love" - the longest running #1 song of the 1990s
"Adonai" - 1998 Dove Award (Most Inspirational Recorded Song)
"The Glory" - huge #1 hit
"Wonder Why" - another #1
Also includes a special bonus cut from their Christmas record, the spine-tingling "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" (also done by Celine Dion).
Overall, this collection of songs summarizes the first seven years of AVALON...however, don't stop there!!
AMAZING COLLECTION by BJ.......2007-03-03
AWESOME! .......2006-06-19
MY FAVORITE TRACK IS #4 "EVERYTHING TO ME", ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS WHAT MY LORD IS TO ME!
Good Sound, Very Good Lyrics.......2006-04-23
The songs have solid Christian lyrics. The sound is a lighter pop sound. It is very upbeat and some of the songs are pretty catchy.
Some of the one that I particularly like are as follows: 'Everything To Me', 'Testify To Love', 'Adonai', 'Always Have, Always Will', and 'The Glory'.
This is definitely worth a listen.

Five albums into its career P.O.D. stands at a critical juncture. The youthful nation that made this band of California Christians into what it is today has grown older and its tastes have grown more refined, meaning that P.O.D. may have to follow suite. Testify's first act suggests that the band has moved in that direction--there's enough heaviness throughout to please those who've joined the P.O.D. posse within the last two years while the group's appreciation for both hip-hop and reggae--deepens. Hasidic MC Matisyahu guests on two tracks ("Roots In Stereo," "Strength Of My Life"), while "Sounds Like War" and "On The Grind" are noble attempts at attracting more diverse audiences. Although the material remains accessible throughout, both the listener and band both grow weary just after the album's halfway point; the final tracks prove largely indistinguishable from each other, even when tempos and attitudes appear to shift. Testify will please the faithful but despite its best intentions P.O.D. may have some trouble finding new converts.--Jedd BeaudoinAlbum Description
Since their release of their first Atlantic album just six years ago, P.O.D. has earned global acclaim and multi-platinum sales for their trademark brand of uplifting power rock. The aptly titled Testify displays the band at their fiery best. Longtime followers of P.O.D.-aka "the Warriors"-will rejoice in many of the band's trademark sonics, from the full-on energy of "This Time" to the "Boom"-esque refrain of the ferocious "Lights Out" and "Say Hello" to the ulitmately inspiring message of the poignant first single, "Goodbye for Now."Customer Reviews:
Dissapointing.......2007-02-12
Flawed but Solid.......2006-10-19
After giving it a few more tries, I changed my mind somewhat and decided it's a good effort, with several redeeming points. While their attempt at diversifying was not entirely successful, in my opinion, the new sound does have some appeal.
---
Song by song:
Roots in Stereo- A good track to start the album. Matisyahu brings a fresh sound to the vocals which works very well.
Lights Out- Similar to Boom. Loud, catchy, and definitely fun, but due to the style, emphasizes self-promoting lyrics in favor of the more meaningful ones found in some other tracks.
If You Could See Me Now- A melodic, inspiring song that helps display how POD's artistry has grown and changed.
Goodbye for Now- This is the kind of song that got POD where they are and keeps them there. They do this very well. Solid lyrics and good melody.
Sounds like War- Another throw-down track like Lights Out, but with more meaningful lyrics.
On the Grind- Forgive me, but I hated this song.
"..you think that I'm a rapper your way off I'm a killer that be murderin' these tracks, so stay off." Do I really have to say anything else?
This Time- A solid track, showing off their evolving style but staying true to type.
Mistakes & Glories- I love the intro, music, and verses of this song, but the chorus feels repetitive and doesn't quite measure up.
Let You Down- A decent second-half-of-the-album track for POD. Solid music and lyrics, contributes to the overall value of the album without standing out.
Teachers- Similar, but a little heavier and aimed towards the "Warriors".
Strength of my Life- Another Matisyahu collaboration. There is definitely potential in this style, although whether it would work with artist is another question. Great almost Psalmic lyrics. Is this the birth of a new genre? Hassidic Rap/Reggae/Praise/Metal?
Say Hello- I was glad to hear another hard-hitting song this late on the album, which helps prevent the second half from blurring together as some have complained.
Mark my Words- Another song that shows the stylistic changes the band is undergoing. The lyrics were strange, though, possibly influenced by The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe? ("white witch", etc)
---
Overall, another solid album, with just a few glitches.
A couple standout songs, some noteworthy attempts at diversification, some which worked very well, others less so. Also, the varying styles of the tracks helped keep the second half of the album from running together.
Not P.O.D's best, but a refreshing return to form in some ways, while continuing to experiment with new styles, and all the while keeping the signature sound that we all love.
Mmm comercialized hip-hop w/ reggea? O_O.......2006-10-17
BEST CD OF POD.......2006-10-17

best songs if you could see me now, roots in the stereo, mark my words
Sometimes, I just don't get it.......2006-09-24
This one is different, but please, Jedd Beaudoin, you should stick with your progressive rock reviews, because if you know what you're talking about, you wouldn't be reviewing this album.
POD looks refreshed, yes, Marcos Curiel was a better guitarist, but the sound they acomplished here, rivals the tight musicianship Curiel showed back in the day. It's a shame they don't get the credit they deserve, but if you're interested in hearing a new P.O.D. sound get this... And you thought you would never see a "nu metal" band evolve... But P.O.D. fans know they're beyond labels and genres right?

Better then People Say.......2005-11-05
"Wake Up Call" is a midtempo song, also about relationships. It's rock influented with some decent riffs. One of the best songs here. "Come with Me" is a ballad, beautiful with many diffrent nice instruments used. The title track "Testify" is also a slow paced song with backup choirs, once again the music is better then the chorus. "Don't Get me Started" is one of the faster songs here with a good chorus. "Swing it Low" is slow paced with a jazzy feeeling, rather forgettable since it lacks a good melody and chorus. "It's Not Too Late" is a melancholy ballad with a decent hook.
"This Love, This Heart" is powerballad with alot of emotion in. "Driving Me Crazy" is the odd song out here, one of a few uptempo songs with some catchy flute(?) sounds. "The Least you do" follows the path of slow ballads here and it's forgettable. "Can't Stop Loving You" was a hit single and it is a emotional midtempo song with a good hook. "Through My Eyes" is a midtempo song, it got some very nice instruments but the chorus and melody are so so. "You Touch My Heart" is another ballad, I love the music that also used horns but not the chorus. The chorus reminds me of "True Colours".
Overall, Don't be to fast to judge this album, listen to it all before you make up your mind. There's alot of hidden musical gems here. "Justify" is far from as bad as some reviwers say, it's a very beautiful album with great instrumnets used in almost every song, what this album lacks may be good lyrics and good choruses. It didn't give many single hits but as a album it's not bad, especially if you're a old fan of him you should apreciate. If you're a new fan, don't start here!
