5 out of 5 stars Great Music Great Value.......2006-07-15

This is a double CD, with tracks from two separate CD's--The "Larsen Feiten Band" which is about $40 as a Japanese Import) and "Full Moon" another pricey and unavailable CD. So this particular CD is a huge bargain.

The music style is jazz and pop. The instrumentals feature a haunting melody line shadowed by guitar, usually syched with the organ or synthesizer, or in some cases, a few miliseconds after the lead notes. The instrumentals also feature a musical chorus, which I find unusual, and some terrific guitar work.

I will never understand why they did not enjoy the musical success they deserved.

For those of you who don't much about the band, I'll offer some history.

Buzz Feiten was a studio guitarist for among other bands, Stevie Wonder. In the mid 1970's he joined forces with Neil Larsen and formed a band called "Full Moon" who recorded an incredibly classic and great album of the same name, with some personnel of Paul Butterfield Blues Band (after his untimely death). The album was critically acclaimed but did not enjoy commercial success, and was jazzy, rocky and poppy. All in all, a terrific sound.

Neil and Buzz recorded a series of albums together with Neil Larsen being the name artist, and after that played out, recorded these two CD within a year of each other.

The sound has something for everyone. It is jazzy, has pop vocals, and some great rock guitar licks.

This particular CD has some great highlights including:

FULL MOON

"Phantom of the Footlights," a pop jazzy song with some great licks and hooks.

"The Visitor" an instrumental featuring the multi-talents of Neil Larsen on organ and synthesizer.

"Hero's Welcome" Another Neil Larsen haunting instrumental.

LARSEN FEITEN BAND

"Who'll Be the Fool Tonight" A pop vocal song with a terrific melody and some catchy hooks. Great guitar work by Buzz.

"Danger Zone" Another pop song, with a jazz matrix.

"Further Notice" A Neil Larsen melody/instrumental which, as usual, as a haunting melody and chorus.

"Aztec Legend" Yet another Neil Larsen melody.

The music is great and this is a bargain of a CD.

5 out of 5 stars Great 2 on 1.......2005-08-10

This one features both the Larsen/Feiten Band from 1980 and Full Moon with the duo from 1982. Plenty of great jazz rock with good songs and musicianship.

4 out of 5 stars Damn Good but Hard to Find.......2004-03-18

After many many years, I've been searching for this album from my hometown in the Philippines even up to my overseas assignments in Indonesia, Guam and Singapore. Up to NOW, I haven't been lucky to get hold of this album...like a Phantom of the Footlight!

This is really a very good rock jazz fusion albums I've enjoyed exclusively only over Manila's DZRJ radio station's heydays in the late 70's or early 1980s.

Is there a way you can find this rare album around the Asia Pacific region?

Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars Spectacular Talents-Neil Larsen and Buzz Feiten.......2003-04-29

If you have ever aspired to play guitar, you must have this CD! Buzz Feiten is the stuff! Lightning-fast! Razor-sharp! Steve Lukather, Jeff Baxter, Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton, Michael Sembello all got some stuff goin' on but the "Buzzard" plays like a wizard! His voice has a haunting emotion that takes you on a flight through harmonic Heaven-especially "Phantom of the Footlights" and "Twilight Moon"-great voice! Neil Larsen plays all keyboards on this and every other Larsen-Feiten CD and is also the pinnacle of his craft-ask any one in the music business! Larsen's organ solo on "The Visitor" is so sweet and saavy you'll find yourself replaying the track over and over as you drift off to breezy beaches in your mind! David Sanborn rips an alto solo right behind Neil's that is only outdone by Buzz takin' you home with the finest solo ever at the end of "The Visitor"! "Sierra" is my favorite track though-spectacular synth solo by Neil only to lead you into another breathtaking example of Feiten's stellar talent on guitar! This is a must have for anyone who loves music and admires gifted musicians who really are quite humble when you meet them in person! Enjoy!

All I can say is that I love this album. If you like great musicians doing their thing, this is it. Neil Larsen, keyboards and Buzz Feiten, guitar are at the height of what they do best on this album. Buzz Feiten especially shines. I cannot get through this album without picking up my guitar and trying to play along. It is so inspiring. The rhythm, the solo's....this is a must. We have to support music like this.
