Hogyssey [Explicit Lyrics]

Hogyssey [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

The poorly titled and executed Hogyssey builds on Spacehog's reputation of anonymous alterna-pop, à la Third Eye Blind and Superdrag. This release does not surprise, and therefore does not disappoint. It's something of a concept album as the band claims that the track sequence is "loosely based on the sequence of events in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey." This does not explain the second-to-last cut, "At Least I Got Laid." (By a monolith? Explain, please.) Actually, to be fair, the band does offer up a surprisingly catchy cut on the third track, "I Want to Live." This sudden explosion of competency startles and snaps before the band continues their Hogyssey towards the middle of the road. --Jason Josephes

5 out of 5 stars One of the best I own.......2004-07-05

And I own well over 700 cds.

This disc is simply amazing. From the initial jangle of "Jupiter's Moon" to the finale "The Horror", this album never fails to deliver.

Some other critics have given this CD a low review because the song "At Least I Got Laid" doesn't fit with the 2001 theme. To them I say: have you ever seen 2001? Because aside from the fact that the first song is call "Jupiter's Moon", the CD has nothing to do with Kubrik's masterpiece. It's called a parody, people. Oh, well. These are the same guys who are going to be confused and disappointed that Micheal Moore's film Fahrenheit 9/11 has nothing to do with Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451.

If you're looking for a concept album, pick up some Pink Floyd. If you're looking for some awesome alt. rock, then grab this CD. It doesn't get much better than this, especially if you've listened to the radio any time in the last five years.

1 out of 5 stars Hog Eat Hog.......2004-06-30

Man this album sucks.

Seems like Spacehog is a victim of their own success. The first track on their first CD was one of the greatest songs of all time. After that, they just went downhill. A lot of people who wanted to like them are musicians, but that's also the problem. The more you listen to spacehog, the more you hear them ripping off other groups and re-using ideas. And then the put out this crapola. When I hit the lyric "at least I got paid, at least I got laid," I realized that this band just ISN'T VERY GOOD.

I don't know how they came up with Meantime. Maybe every musician has one really good song in them. It's the ones that have more than one good song that make you want to buy the CD. As for this CD? It has zero good songs. :( What a bummer.

1 out of 5 stars Out of ideas and tired........2003-02-15

What a HUGE disappointment. After a first album that belongs on "All time great albums" lists, and a folow-up that showed that they weren't a fluke, this things outright "is bad." Maybe worth more than one star from a mediocre band, but Spacehog is not mediocre. They should give fans better than this. Maybe stardom and Liv Tyler has clouded main songwriter Royston Langdon's creativity (and who can blame him) but if so they should've just taken a break. The only really good, fun song on here is "At Least I Got Laid", and as stated by others, it makes no sense with the rest of the CD. At least it had one good song.

5 out of 5 stars Spacehog's finest hour.......2003-01-10

What a wonderful and sadly overlooked album. After The underrated Chinese Album,It was 3 years until Spacehog returned with their third album. In that time they were dumped by their Major label after their second album didnt sell as well as Resident Alien
Chinese was a milder affair but this album is a heavy effort, particulary This is America and Eathquake.Other standouts are At least I got laid,The first single I want to live and their best track ever,The David Bowie ish And it is.
That this album and Spacehog are not longer a force in todays music industry is baffling.Their is a lot more to Spacehog than the classic In the meantime but sadly most people dont even realise they are still going.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the earlier albums!.......2002-04-01

I've always been a moderate fan of Spacehog, and I own all three albums. Although each album has it's plusses, my own personal opinion is that this album surpasses the others. I find myself listening to it more than the other two (and not just because it's newer). Songs like "Jupiter's Moon" and "I Want to Live" make the CD definitely worth a spin!
