Product Description
With a career that spans nearly 25 years, IQ remain one of the biggest names in the world of Progressive Rock. Getting their start in Southhampton, England back in 1981, IQ was often compared to two other great Prog bands from the UK: Marillion and Genesis. For years the band struggled to create their own identity and they did so by outlasting the glory days of Fishs Marillion and Gabriels Genesis. Here again is IQ with their classic line-up of Peter Nicholls, Martin Orford, Mike Holmes, John Jowitt and Paul Cook.
The Seventh House begins melodically, lulling the listener into a dreamlike state before the notes are transformed into pumping progressive rock rhythms with strange, grumbling bass lines. IQ are masters of the soft tones, conveying their content differently than their heavier colleagues but always carefully crafted, progressively arranged and with equal intensity.

UnRetro Disco.......2007-05-30
This one is way more upbeat than "Cloud Nine". And as a result it's somewhat discoish but not too nostolgic. That said, this is a fine package, that in my opinion has only one negligable track. Highly recommended.
Note: The -1 star is strictly a measure of personal preferance, I prefer a more chilled vibe as is found on Cielo: Cloud Nine.
Deep House at it`s finest.......2007-04-21
Along with Ben Watt`s Buzzin Fly, the fellow from the ultra cool, NYC Cielo Has put together again the best of real and good taste Deep house,,, wish you guys could make a compilation like this at least twice a year
great slightly deep spherical tribal and ibiza sound.......2007-04-11
everything superb. my friends are keen on the discs and were heading for ituning them. this double pack is even better than the cloud 9. it is more profiled and really gets the sun down on the beach like the picture on the cover. astonishingly european dj-sets from the heart of nyc.

IQ - Often Overlooked Album Contains Some Of The Band's Strongest Work.......2007-05-30
When people discuss the great IQ albums, this one is not necessarily one that always comes to mind. After the 2 disc concept album "Subterranea" the single disc, more focused, "Seventh House" sometimes seems to be overlooked. This is a more subtle IQ album, but it really grew on me with repeated listens, and I think it is an excellent piece of work. The album contains two bona fide IQ classics. The album closer "Guiding Light" is a great way to finish out the disc. The rhythm section of dummer Paul Cook and bass player John Jowitt really shine on this one, and Peter Nichols has composed some of his best lyrics here. The other really strong track is the title cut "The Seventh House". The song almost seems to serve as a sequel to the song "Common Ground" from the "Nomzamo" album. "Common Ground" was written by Paul Menel, but "Seventh House" covers similar subject matter of old soldiers and enemies meeting up years after the conflict. It is truly a moving piece of music and as good as any single composition that IQ has done. The rest of the album is also strong; "The Wrong Side Of Weird", "Erosion", and "Zero Hour" are all patented IQ. The weakest track on the disc "Shooting Angels" is still a good one. Overall I think that this album appears to be somewhat looked over in the IQ catalogue, but it is well worth picking up if you like the band at all.
Pleasantly Surprised.......2007-04-02
I took a chance with this after hearing this band on XM satelite Radio channel 51 (XM Music Lab), They are quite talented, Somewhat like a mixture of mid seventies Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull, and Pink Floyd. If you like Genesis or Yes, or any of the other countless progressive bands of the late sixties to the mid to late 80's you should think of this Band when Selecting your next music Purchase.
Two words...Buy It!.......2007-03-24
I am a long-term IQ fan and finally own almost everything they have made to-date. I recommend this CD for anyone who wants to experience what IQ is like. This CD shows IQ at their finest and, at only six songs, is less daunting than the two-disk Subterranea. One word of caution, you have to want to hear a progressive rock band if you buy this CD; there are no catchy, three minute pop songs...the shortest track is 5:44. The Wrong Side of Weird, The Seventh House, and Guiding Light are classic 10 minute plus tracks with lots of rythm and tempo changes. Even the track I consider the weakest, Shooting Angels, is not a bad listen. The musicianship in IQ is always good, and this CD really shows them with their own identity now that they have moved beyond trying to emulate the Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. If you like progressive rock and want to experience IQ, buy this CD.
Only one song keeps this from being a 5 star album.......2007-01-19
I'm not the biggest fan of what is commonly referred to as "neo-prog", but IQ is the best band in this genre, and "The Seventh House" is their best album. Somehow this Genesis-caliber band has stayed together through the years, and they consistently put out very good music, played well, with interesting lyrics (and album covers!). There's a "Lamb Lies Down" feel to the opening of "Wrong Side of Weird" before it morphs into a "Song Remains the Same" riff. Some great moments on this opener, but it seems to lose its way halfway along. Not so with the title track; IQ's BEST composition ever with great lyrics, a soaring chorus, and great song development all the way through. I also love the fast section of "Guiding Light" with some showcase drumming. But what were they thinking with the sappy "Shooting Angels"? - the only thing that keeps me from giving this album 5 stars overall.
I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:
Music quality = 8.3/10; Performance = 9/10; Production = 10/10; CD length = 10/10.
Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 8.9 ("4-1/2 stars")
Great album to discover.......2007-01-14
I have enjoyed this album very much, very good musicians and signer.
No filler, only good neo-prog with great sound and production.
Two thumbs up for IQ for this one.

Symphonic Sousa!.......2007-05-12
This recording is unique. I've heard lots of march recordings, and the Dallas Wind Symphony takes a different approach. This is real music. Sousa was a great composer and this recording gets him out of the oom-pah crash-crash rut. There's subtlety here, variations, detail, and the recording itself shows it all with great dynamic range. It's as if Beethoven met Sousa in Dallas.
Superb Sousa - Strictly Speaking.......2007-02-16
Absolutely love this CD! A great collection of my favorite marches and it is well done by this orchestra. My only issue with it is that I was expecting better sound dynamics. The whole CD seems quiet to me. When I used to play marches in the school band I was used to the thunderous, booming crescendos! Eh, I just turn it up louder! Also, my 8-month old son loves this CD. He perks right up and claps when I put it on.
More Than Spectacular!!.......2001-07-24
When I purchased this CD, I did not know what to expect (this is the first CD I purchased with only marches on it). But, I knew if it was from Reference Recordings, the sound would be spectacular! Spectacular marches from a spectacular bandmaster from a spectacular recording label equals something much more than spectacular, to say nothing of the spectacular performances of the Dallas Wind Symphony! To describe this HDCD as a toe-tapper is setting the bar far too low. Listening to just a few of these marches can change a gloomy day to sunny - and I mean it! These marches are impeccably played with such verve and gusto that you are transported right to Main Street USA. And all this marching emotion is captured as faithfully as possible by the "Professor" Keith O. Johnson of Reference Recordings.
If this CD does not get your heart pumping, better call 911!
A GREAT CD not to be missed!

Another hard hitting techno mix in this now prolific series........2007-02-08
Other mix series usually swap DJ's for every other mix, or sometimes it's the same DJ on the first disc, and then a different one for every disc 2. However, Sven Väth has taken upon himself to contiually mix his own 2 disc set in his now long running Sound of the Season mix series. With number 7, he comes out with his trademark, heavy hitting techno for disc 1, then lightens it up slightly with some tech house on disc 2. He lets a lot of tracks play very long, like Audion's Mouth to Mouth (which is itself an epic track to begin with), and culminating disc 2 with the stunning Middle Eastern vibe track India in Me by Cobblestone Jazz.
If you're looking for more jarring techno from Sven, this is another weighty installment in his mix series. By the way, the cover on Amazon is wrong, and the back cover artwork shown here is really what the cover looks like. Also, Amazon lists Konstantin Raudive as the artist on track 4, but it's actually by an artist named Oliver Ho, who goes by the name Raudive, and has nothing to do with Konstantin. This is actually my least favorite track on either disc, as the distorted child's voice just makes for one annoying track, even though the musical portion of the track is strong. One last note, the CD has an error in that it lists the Trentemøller track as Nam Nam, when it's actually Killer Kat.

one of the best in the busness today .......2005-09-09
One of the many great things about dean is he doesn't emerse himself in the business* side of music he is a live player, but not to denote his recordings which are astonishing. I have seen him live several times and to say that he is the best in the business is a understatement. He is fact better than any musician whose motivation is split between music and money, Deans purely a musician and a really good one at that. If Hendrix was reincarnated as a white man Dean has to be him.
A new touch to guitar music.......2000-11-15
That guy really knows how to get people addicted to his music. After seeing him live, I thought why not get a CD and it was worth. Each song on there is of the same great class but still all different. PCIL is one great song (PCIL is the name of the band Dean Magraw used to play in) and the 7th One, which is dedicated to his nephew also gets me grooving on a kind of music that I have just now discovered. Thanks to Dean for that great album and thanks for being such a nice and also funny guy. Buy that CD, you won'rt regret it, that's for sure.
What's around the next corner?.......2000-08-13
I felt myself being drawn through a wild range of joyful emotion when I first heard this cd in a little restaurant in Foggy Bottom, DC. I made the very busy waiter go find out who it was. Listening to the excerpts over the computer does it NO justice. Close your eyes and the band is live in front of you. PCIL is my favorite on the album, but as another reviewer said, each is unique and wonderful. It's a delight to be able to hear each of the instruments so clearly! Great acoustic, great bass especially.
The best one yet!.......1999-11-16
Once again, another superb recording from Dean Magraw. Impossible to categorize, impressive in execution and conception, delightful to listen to. And all-acoustic!
Why isn't this guy a national star?
Amazing guitarist. Dean Magraw at his best.......1998-08-31
Liquid guitar , is the best decription of Dean Magraw,s style. I belive him to be one of the best in the busness today and this album proves it. He transends all music styles and is hard to place in any catigory. A must for any music lover

NEO PROG AT ITS FINEST. DARK MATTER, EVER AND THE WAKE ARE ESSENTIAL AS WELL. ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY? WELL STOP!! GET UP AND BUY THIS!!!
Very powerful and passionate.......2004-05-04
Though this album did not touch me as much as Subterranea, it certainly grew on me. If the "weak" tracks on this album are "The Wrong Side of Weird" and "Shooting Angels", then one of the most powerful have the be the very powerful epic, "The Seventh House", a tale of a man who comes back to the place where all his friends and comrades were killed in World War I. This has fast become one of my favorite IQ tracks so far. The mood that is created by Orford's lush keyboards and Mike Holme's passionate guitar is perfectly matched by Peter Nicholl's eloquent and poetic lyrics. I tend to listen this this one twice before I can go on to the next song. I also very much like "Erosion", "Zero Hour" and I adore "Guiding Light", though for us here in the US, this really beautiful and lush song about unrequited love and a moment lost forever in time, does bear the moniker of a very cheesy soap opera. Okay, so, "The Seventh House" is not another "Lamb" as was "Subterranea" but it's a solid album and the two shining stars are "The Seventh House" and "Guiding Light".
IQ Brings It All Home On The Seventh House.......2004-01-25
Starting out almost as a Genesis tribute band in the early '80s, and after two major label flops with a different lead singer, IQ finally found their own artistic "voice" on the masterful "Ever" album in '93. That was followed by the epic, two-CD concept album "Subterranea" in '97. Their latest, "The Seventh House," harkens back to "Ever" in form and feel. This is, without a doubt, one of the finest progressive rock albums I've ever heard. Based on a concept of reincarnation, IQ have filtered the obvious Genesis influences through their own unique vision...with absolutely dramatic results. If for no other reason, you must buy this CD for the stunningly beautiful, 15-minute title track. Peter Nicholls' vocals are less shrill and much more refined then on earlier IQ material (think Peter Gabriel, only in a higher register). There is a subtle sense of hope and spirituality in the lyrics, and the lush, dramatic music leads you through breathtaking twists and turns. My only complaint about "The Seventh House" CD? It's too short and leaves you craving more of this excellent music (unlike "Subterranea, which was a bit too much of a good thing). Here's hoping this great band has returned to the studio, and will treat us to a new album soon!
Hard to follow-up Subterranea.......2004-01-19
My first IQ album was the incredible "Subterranea," so perhaps its hard to imagine any other IQ album could match that high standard. "Seventh House" is just "okay." Didn't bowl me over like Subterranea. Two fabulous tunes (the title track, and Guiding Light) and four average tunes. While their music isn't overly challenging or complex like other prog bands, they have a very appealing sound and a smart use of drama and contrast. Since I like their sound, I will continue to explore their other albums and hope for more greatness.
IQ are on top form !.......2003-12-31
This record is a one of the best albums ever recorded in the neo-prog world, but the sound is closer to prog metal. Nevertheless, ingredients that made IQ fame are still there : dramatic vocals (a cross between Peter Gabriel's and Jon Anderson's voices), melodic sections and frequent rhythm changes. The record was produced by the drummer, so it's no wonder that drums sound so violent on this LP. On this record, clear passages alternate with darker passages, as was the case on previous albums such as 'Subterranea' and 'The Wake'. All in all, this record is great and there are no weak songs on it. Play it loud and enjoy it !
