4 out of 5 stars UnRetro Disco.......2007-05-30

This one is way more upbeat than "Cloud Nine". And as a result it's somewhat discoish but not too nostolgic. That said, this is a fine package, that in my opinion has only one negligable track. Highly recommended.

Note: The -1 star is strictly a measure of personal preferance, I prefer a more chilled vibe as is found on Cielo: Cloud Nine.

Tame even by Govi's standards, Seventh Heaven is a pleasant dinner-party assortment of lightweight, flamenco-tinged instrumentals for acoustic guitar and small ensemble. A capable player and an agreeable composer, Govi has always resided at the softer end of the nouveau (read: smooth) flamenco continuum, only occasionally striking the sort of sparks associated with more ambitious players such as Jesse Cook, Oscar Lopez, or Ottmar Liebert. Instead, Govi targets the easy-listening crowd, and, in that context, serves up a fitting assortment of light-on-the-ear tunes that feature modest Latin and Spanish accents. Polite and cleanly played, Seventh Heaven may be a bit too gentle for some listeners, though others will find it goes very nicely with a good book and a Chardonnay. If pretty, Anglicized guitar music with a more pronounced flamenco influence is your preference, you would do well to investigate the Johannes Linstead album, Kiss the Earth. --Terry Wood

4 out of 5 stars Very Good -- if Not Quite Heavenly.......2006-05-14

The music on Seventh Heaven is unmistakenly Govi and again very well recorded; clean, full, and with great detail. Two cuts are fast moving, one is medium paced, and the rest are slow and soft, of which two are solo guitar. As the editorial reviewer reports, this music on this CD goes well with a glass (or two)of nice wine. I recommend that Govi fans purchase this CD. However, if you do not already own any of Govi's previous releases, I suggest that you first buy "Passion & Grace" and "Guitar Odyssey". These are truly outstanding --- Govi at his absolute best. George M -- Phoenix, AZ

5 out of 5 stars Quality.......2005-10-10

Govi has a style and talent that anyone can like. This one and Guitar Odyssey are my favorites although I have not heard every Govi album. Govi is great to have on while studying, reading, or just relaxing after hard work. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful guitar music from the heart!.......2001-12-16

This is one awesome guitar CD to listen to! The better your system, the more incredible it sounds (this disc is an HDCD release, and sounds 'like buttah' on an HDCD player... check out hdcd.com)! Listening to this on my pair of high-end audiophile MAGNEPLANAR speakers transports me to nylon string heaven! The arrangements here are very accomplished and satisfying, and very melodic and passionate. The level of musicianship is very apparent also given the synergy with other musicians that play on this disc. If you like Govi, you must also listen to the artists 'Strunz & Farah'. Govi and Strunz & Farah are my favorite bands in this great genre. I truly hope Govi continues to release music that is similar to 'Seventh Heaven', for he has reached his stride with this one!

5 out of 5 stars What beautiful and soulful guitars !.......2001-09-21

Had a hard time looking for Govi's CD's here in Kuala Lumpur. I was introduced to govi when i purchased the Guitar Greats - Best Of New Flamenco. Finally caught hold of two Govi CDs (this and "Adalusian Nights")

Govi's music is outstandingly intoxicating, with the beautifully written and played melodies. A totally refreshing breeze of fresh air when i listen to Seventh Heaven. Haaaaa ! (Seventh Heaven is too short though, just a near the 3/4hr. mark! 65 minutes shud be more like it.

"Disappearing Into You" + "Havana Sunset" are my most loved tracks. Simply delicious! GREAT CD. Grab it today.

5 out of 5 stars Demonstrates a total mastery.......2001-02-17

In Seventh Heaven, acoustical guitarist Govi once again demonstrates a total mastery of his music which blends Latin passion, Spanish romance, Gypsy energy, and the fragrant melodies of Hawaii. The ten individual pieces comprising Seventh Heaven include: Rising in Love (4:12); Disappearing into You (4:52); Mediterrano (4:44); Havana Sunset (6:48); Walking on Clouds (4:30); Language of the Heart (1:40); Gypsy Heaven (5:21); Jacaranda (5:26); Garden of Eden (2:55); and Wings of Love (5:10).

5 out of 5 stars T.M. Revolution's Seventh Heaven Album Really IS Heaven.......2005-11-24

I've had this CD for about two months now and it's still the one I listen to more than any others in my possession. All of the songs are absolutley wonderful and, when I bought it, it came with a lyrics booklet which included pictures of the singer throughout it. The music is catchy and upbeat and makes the listener want to dance around to it. Some of the songs would even be good to DDR to!

I admit, it did take a little while for two of the songs (numbers 7, GUNJOH, and 10, Tears Macerate Reason) to grow on me because they were slower and a bit more lazily-paced but the more you listen to them the better they start sounding. GUNJOH is particularly beautiful in the fact that, while it begins almost a capella with one voice, it ends with instruments backing the singer as well as a secondary voice that allows for a truly stunning and lovely harmony.

The lyrics are easy enough to memorize if you hear it a few times, which explains why I came close to begging my choral teacher to let us sing one of the songs in a concert, and the rhythm is also easy to learn.

This CD is definitely worth the money spent. Although the vast majority of it is in Japanese (what could one expect from a Japanese band? Don't get me wrong; I love TM Revolution), there are bits of English spread through the songs such as in number 5, Arterial Fear, and number 9, Engraved on the Moon. It adds a little flavour to an already delicious selection of Japanese music created by the same singer to bring the world songs like High Pressure, Heat Capacity, Burning XMas, and Yoake Mae (Heart of Sword from Rurouni Kenshin's ending theme). The songs on this album are as follows:

1. Key to Seventh Heaven (instrumental)
2. Albireo (the album version)
3. Zips
4. Destined For...
5. Arterial Fear
6. Graceful World
7. GUNJOH
8. Get Over the Rain
9. Engraved on the Moon
10. Tears Macerate Reason
11. Wheel of Fortune

Not only are the songs on this album great to listen to and get energized by, but they're also fun to use to judge your knowledge of the Japanese language in pronunciation and the Japanese to English translation of words by basing them on context of the words you know and those around it. Personally, I think TM Revolution is definitely at the top of the best music list with Rammstein following closely in second place. If there's any advice I can give you on this CD, it's get the album because you'll absolutely love it.

4 out of 5 stars Adorable techno-pop!.......2005-10-27

Like alot of people, I first became a fan of T.M. Revolution by hearing his songs played as anime themes (Heart of Sword from Rurouni Kenshin; INVOKE from Gundam Seed). But despite being a fan for a while, this is the first of his albums that I've actually owned. I recently ordered it and was absolutely thrilled! It was everything I hoped and expected it to be.

The music itself is extremely catchy, extremely cute techno-pop. Most of the tracks are very upbeat, but a few take the time to slow it down, so you can wave your lighter around. ^_^ His vocals are great throughout the entire album- I don't think there's one song where he sounds much better than the others; he's very consistent. I personally prefer the faster songs- my two favorites being Albireo and Wheel Of Fortune.

One negative thing I could say about the album (and alot of his music in general) is that many of the songs start to sound the same. Of course, if you're like me and absolutely love the music, then that's no problem. If you are a more casual listener, however, I would suggest not going out of your way to fill out your TMR collection; you might be a little disappointed.

I also would like to mention the liner notes and art. Because this CD is being put out through Tofu records, the lyrics are spelled out phonetically, so dorks like myself can try and memorize them. The art is nice, featuring pictures of Takanori in both goregous light and dark costumes. And, for all my fangirls out there, he's quite a lovely man. ^___^

All in all, it's a great album, whether you are a new listener or a big fan. It's just poppy enough to give you your saccharin fix (with far fewer calories than candy!), but still good enough to actually sit down and listen to.

(PS- Takanori Nishikawa is a great live performer, so I recommend his Summer Crush DVD, as well. The music, his costumes, and the candid video are to die for, even though I don't understand the Japanese!)

5 out of 5 stars Nishikawa-san does it again!.......2005-07-29

Again, T.M.R. has put out another awesome album. this one has some really upbeat/techno-ish songs like Albeiro and Zips. He has great vocals once again and doesn't fail to deliver his best. I am truly one of his biggest fans here in the states and this cd is sure to get you hooked onto him. I'd reccomend Coordinate first, and then this one. This is a great cd any T.M.R. fan should own. 5 stars baby 5 stars! Holla!

5 out of 5 stars T.M. Revolution one of the Best in J-pop.......2005-05-15

I got this CD a while back. I loved it since the first time I played it. This is a great album, everything flows. With T.M. Revolution you get emotion mixed with beautiful lyrics and great backing music. This CD has something for everyone. There is slow sad songs and fast up tempo dance bits too.
Even if your not a j-pop\rock fan you should pick up this great album it is worth a listen!

5 out of 5 stars If you enjoyed Gravitation's Kotani Kinya..........2005-03-14

There is not a single song on this cd that I dislike, including Track One, which doesn't have any vocals but leads nicely into Track Two. For fans of Gravitation music who aim to find JPop equal to the quality of Kotani Kinya and Iceman's work, look no further. K.K.'s manager and former Iceman member, Daisuke Asakura produces and works with TM Revolution, who is also the vocalist of "Heart of Sword", the Ruroni Kenshin anime ending theme.

The greatest tracks on this disk are perhaps 2, 4, and 9, the worst being track 1, because as I stated earlier, there is no real singing; it's more of a techno intro to the whole cd that blends very nicely with track 2. The best way to experience this cd is perhaps to listen to it the whole way through, without skipping from track to track.

5 out of 5 stars Heavenly.......2006-08-10

Sweet god, what a great record. The music and the way it was recorded in the studio is just AMAZING. Love and Rockets here give us one of the most solid records I've heard from the 1980's. The songs are fresh sounding solid rock (injected with a sense of grandeur and not a trace of sugar coated fakeness - yet it has huge mainstream appeal they play L&R on the radio a lot), you could tell it was a new direction for Daniel Ash & Co. Just a fantastic record from the 80's amazing blend of rock, synthesizer, drums and good lyrics! Take a dash of Beatles, throw in some Jesus & Mary Chain, some Bluesy Rock, Dylan and finally a nice thick layer of gothic roots - then you have Love and Rockets.

"Live a life you love, use the God you trust and don't take it all too seriously."

This is the repackaged edition - the whole album is remixed and sounds perfect also the album art is different. Included is a little booklet about the band's origin.

5 out of 5 stars better than best.......2006-07-10

this albumn has been compared to abbey road. that's generous, but not excedingly. it is my favorite record from the 80's. highly recommend purchasing this issue. has singles and mixes and stuff. good great better than best.

5 out of 5 stars The Classic L&R release. Done right.......2006-02-28

When this record first arrived, I was hooked. I was already a big Tones On Tail fan and the Ball Of Confusion 12" had me ready for the LP. I thought I knew what to expect. Boy, was I mistaken. This album far exceeds any expectation I could have ever had. A true 80's psychedelic masterpiece. The only problem? The CD reissues never were the same version as the album. Several different mixes on different releases, always diluting the stew. Until now. Here it is the original mix, in the original running order AND all of the various mixes (well, most of them due to time constraints) and B-sides too!
As Jack Kirby once said:"Don't ask, just buy!"

5 out of 5 stars 7th DREAM a triumph - trippy, pretty, intensely gorgeous!.......2004-04-29

Someone in the Love and Rockets camp has a habit of fine-tuning their albums and adding new songs after the initial album release date. This is cheating, but no matter. I've fine tuned my own version of what the album should sound like. At least this current release has the original line-up of songs, followed by the bonus material. The following is MY running order for the album:

"If There's A Heaven Above" - "Throw the world off your shoulders tonight Mr. Smith . . ." This joyously hopeful song dives right into the main themes of the album, namely - youth, the mystery of religion, the nature of human existence and the progression of time. *****

"A Private Future" - Starts off as a pretty, idyllic song that progresses into a more ominous exploration of religious beliefs. Culminates in the line "Live the life you love/ Use a god you trust/ And don't take it all too seriously" which instantly brings their sermonizing back down to earth. ****

("Snuff out the ") -- "Dog-end Of A Day Gone By" - A steady rock workout drenched in omnipresent guitars, organ and rumbling drums. ****

"The Game" - This one sounds like being caught in some Twilight Zone timewarp. Ticks along at a deliberate pace like a clock that intensifies as the song progresses. ****1/2

"Inside The Outside" - This one's a cool rocker. Dominated by drums that tumble all over the place and tortured single-note shreds of fury on guitar. ****

"God And Mr. Smith" - a wigged-out remix of "If There's A Heaven Above" sans words. Strange Middle Eastern vocal distortions and other effects swirl around to trippy effect. *****

"Seventh Dream Of Teenage Heaven" - The word "hypnotic" gets thrown around a lot, but this song definitely qualifies for that description. Like entering an alternate reality. Intense - especially at one particular point in the middle! *****

"Haunted When The Minutes Drag" - Also hypnotic and intense, but in a much different way. This is a great guitar-driven song featuring more of the terrific electronic percussion found all over this album. *****

"Saudade" - gorgeous acoustic guitar displaying an expert combination of picking and strumming (an L&R trademark) as a spacey drum gently knocks away. Builds to a gentle yet sweeping climax. A beauty! *****

To me "Ball Of Confusion" belongs on < > where it originally appeared (in album form at least) and I prefer the extended version because it's awesome and worth hearing as much of it as possible. I haven't heard all the other mixes included on this CD, so I'll probably break down and get it at some point.

4 out of 5 stars Great Debut? by a Great Band.......2004-02-13

Well it isn't really a debut, it's just the first one under the L&R name. The sound on this album didn't change that much from Tones on Tail or Bauhaus.

Anyway this really is a great album with lots of good stuff. "Dog End of a Day Gone By", "If There's a Heaven Above" and "God and Mr. Smith" are all excellent downbeat pop songs. "The Game" is more dark and strange, feeling like it could have come straight from a Bauhaus session; you can hear this song's main hook sampled on Snog's "Reigning Terror". "Saudade" is a wonderful instrumental piece. "Private Future" is excellent as well.

There is a slight issue though... the album is very slow overall. With the exception of the up-tempo "Inside the Outisde" the entire CD runs at about the same pace. (Note: "Ball of Confusion" is faster too, but it wasn't on this album originally and I don't know why it's here now - it was released with "Express"). I love the album but I think this lack of differentiation hurts the way the album is remembered and maybe even is part of the reason this band's legacy is not a powerful as it deserves to be. My guess is that had these great songs been sprinkled in throughout the L&R collection, placed side-by-side with the upbeat, catchy songs that not only would these songs be more remembered but the band as well. Hey, maybe that's why they threw "Ball of Confusion" in - still not appropriate to revise history like that.

Love and Rockets ought to be in the pantheon of great 80's/alternative/post-punk (pick your cliche) bands with the likes of The Cure, The Smiths or whomever. For some reason they are overlooked a bit.

First off, I'd like to point out that this is a single not a full length album. I'd hate for you to be disapointed when there are only four songs on it and two of them are just repeats of the other two.

As always, L'arc en ciel is a blast to listen too. They are always fun and in this song, Seventh Heaven, really up beat and definetly something you could dance to. No clue what their saying myself, but I know good music when I hear it and Hydes voice only improves on the always great sound Tetsu, Ken and Yuki play so well. Can't wait for the full album

      5 out of 5 stars Worth having.......2004-05-08

The failure of this show broke Victor Young's heart. Based on a classic silent film from the late '20s starring Janet Gaynor and Chalres Farrell, the show tried to float a story which by the '50s was out of time and place. Fresh-faced and apple-pie-personality Gloria DeHaven was miscast in the role of a street waif who'd seen the seamy side of life, though she drew on her considerable show biz experience to do the best she could with the material. The score includes numerous highlights but failed to make an impression. That all could have changed had the recording of "Where Is That Someone For Me" by Joni James on M-G-M Records been a big hit. James took the song and transformed it entirely into a production ballad with a fabulous orchestration. But as so often happened with Joni James records she put an equally terrific recording on the flip side ("The Moment I Saw You," written for her by the writers of "My One and Only Love," which she also recorded at the session for "Where Is That Someone For Me" but which did not get released as a single though an earlier version is on her album "When I Fall in Love") and that is the side the disc jockeys began playing. Had James' record gone top 10 "Seventh Heaven" probably would have survived at the box office. James' version of "Someone" is still available on her C.D. "Little Girl Blue." DeHaven's pretty original cast and single versions are on this C.D. and the song gets a great moment in the overture.
There's some great pastiche numbers here and some noteworthy cast members. But it ain't heaven. The show is a misfire but far from dismal. It's a dream that didn't come true.

3 out of 5 stars average score, average recording.......2004-03-03

SEVENTH HEAVEN was a Broadway musical flop which shuttered after 44 performances at the ANTA Theatre. The score by Victor Young and Stella Unger is average at best. The show is really only noteworthy for being the big debut for a dancer called Chita Rivera...

Chita Rivera played one of the three streetwalkers in the show (the others were played by Gerrianne Raphael and Patricia Hammerlee). The main romantic couple was played by Gloria De Haven and Ricardo Montalban, with fine support from Kurt Kasznar.

Standout numbers in the score include the streetwalkers' anthem "Camille, Collette, Fifi", as well as "If It's a Dream" and "Where Is That Someone For Me", two lovely ballads for Gloria De Haven.

Sound quality is quite tinny. Decca Broadway has reissued the cast album complete with 2 bonus tracks - "Blessings", cut from the score during tryouts (performed by Marian Caruso), and a studio cut of "Where Is That Someone For Me" again performed by Gloria De Haven, accompanied by Victor Young's orchestra.
