Stop Walking on Gilded Splinters. You gotta hear this one!.......2007-07-25
Woah! One of the BEST live albums of all time. I wore out the cassette I bought in college when it first came out after stumbling on a bootleg tape of Humble Pie AND falling in "like" with them in '69. Patched that live tape up so many times there were gaps in the songs and mangled parts garbling the sound. I thought I had died and went to heaven when I saw this in the CD store about 15 years ago. All the good memories came flooding back with the improved sound of the CD. Peter Framptom! Steve Marriott! God! Could those guys pump out the rockers together! This live set has been one of my most favorite albums for over 37 years now! That is a LONG time to like something. You will like this too. I WANNA BE BURIED WITH THIS ALBUM.
Only "The Best" live album EVER!!.......2007-06-28
I'm 53. I love the "classics", and this group's live effort ranks as one of the best I have ever heard. And it places you right there in the audience as if you were on the first row. And by the end, with I Don't Need No Doctor, you've felt the weight of 4 master performers just smack you all over the stage, your're wet from sweat, tired from dancing, clapping, and screaming your lungs out. Gilded Splinter and Rolling Stone (which each took up one side of vinyl) are great. The first song, which challenges you to ask yourself...Are You Ready?, sets the stage for an excellent concert ride.
When given the chance to discuss classic rock with someone much younger than me, I always say....buy Performance, Rockin' the Filmore, and be a witness to what 4 guys on stage can do, and that is play some of the best live music you will ever hear on this planet....but, that's just my opinon, along with the other 50 plus reviewers on this site. BUY IT!!

Ahh,The lovely sound of CRANKED AMPS!!!.......2007-06-16
I bought this release as a 2 record set in the fall of '72 and it has remained a favorite ever since. The tones and performances are totally in a league of their own especially the late, great Steve Marriott. From the first notes of "Four Day Creep" to his singing, playing and arranging skills of "I Don't Need No Doctor" you know this was a man on a mission. And about those amps;no frazzy "Brown Sound" BS here.No complex signal chains of wah>od/dist>chorus>delay>reverb here.Just majestic non-master Marshalls running at near red-line with the eq's set for maximum impact, again especially Steve. His intro to "Roling Stone" gives a clinic on grind.Just unbelievable.Peter Frampton is also amazing throughout.Dig his early lead on "Rolling Stone".Man, the notes just explode from the speakers. The overall band sound is awesome as well with the drums and bass filling out the mix perfectly.Steve's vocals are to me unparalled though.I don't think I have any other cds or albums where I listen to the vocals with the same intensity as the playing. His banter with the audience on "Rolling Stone" is great as well.I love how he calls the audience out-"You want to sing it,come on and sing it!!!!YEAAAHHH!!!" What a showman!Jamming faves for me are "I'm Ready" and "Stone Cold Fever".I love Peter's melodic style on these tracks. From what I read years ago he made a concious effort not to sound like Clapton and I think it paid off as his leads are as unique as they are awesome.I love how the band wraps up "I Don't Need No Doctor" with Peter playing over the ascending chord figure.Man.I damn near tear-up just thinking about it.(what can I say,I GET IT!)If you haven't already you should get it ,too.A must have for any rock fan.
live rock at its best.......2007-05-16
After reading one extremely positive review for this album after another, I thought it would be a wise idea to buy the thing...
and I'm glad I did.
All the reviews are correct- simply put, this album cooks. This is actually my first exposure to Humble Pie, and I think owning this album was a good choice because it's about as consistently pleasing as live rock music can get in the early 70's. Lots of heavy guitar jams, solid bass work, and drumming that blows my mind. Oh, and the sound quality is about as good as it gets too.
The only minor complaints I might have are that "I'm Ready" is one or two minutes overlong, and "Rolling Stone" isn't a song I feel like giving a listen to everyday (because of the talk-singing that occurs during most of it) but other than that, yeah, all the reviews are exactly accurate. You must buy this album if you like your classic rock loud and heavy.
Oh, and I also want to point out, for those of you who might be familiar with the band Black Sabbath and the Sabotage album, that the song "Hole in the Sky" features drumming and cymbal-bashing *exactly* the same as the opening track on this Humble Pie album. Coincidence?
Get ready for over 70 minutes of classic rock jamming at its very finest. Rockin' the Fillmore is a must have for sure.
Lightning in a Bottle.......2007-04-05
I'm listening to this album (that's what we used to call 'em, albums)and reading these reviews warmed by memory. Back in the day, every time we listened to this mainstay of a record, my friend Joe would have to remind us that his buddy was at the Fillmore that night, one of those "people behind the glass plate at the back of the hall." If you asked 100 people on the street today if they ever heard of Humble Pie, 98 would be clueless and the 2 that had would be over 45 years old. Nevertheless kids, every review that calls this one of the "greatest live rock albums of all time" (which appears to be every review) is 110% on the money. It's right there with "Live at Leeds" or anything you else you care to drag up. I've never been a huge fan of Humble Pie's studio records, probably because I became most familiar with "Live" first. The studio stuff's OK, but if you're a rock fan this MUST be in your collection. You don't need to know the band or the songs, if you're 18 or 80 and you love 70's era rock music, you will love this record. It's loud, long, raw and absolutely relentless. Folks, spend your hard earned money wisely. Don't buy junk. Buy this.

One Of Humble Pie's Best.......2007-04-03
SMOKIN' is one of Humble Pie's best CDs ever. Although new guitarist Dave "Clem" Clempson lacks the finesse of his predecessor, Peter Frampton, as well as Frampton's vocal ability, he proves himself to be a great straight-ahead, no-nonsense blues-rock player, with a rawness that Frampton lacked. His urgency turns "30 Days In The Hole" from a mere good-time party tune into a cautionary warning about what happens when you take good times too far, and as a result, the song has inspired me to hang up pictures of pretty actresses as an inspiration to "put on the brakes" when I need to. This CD belongs in any serious rock collection.
Smokin' Indeed !.......2006-11-10
The title says it all. Twist one up and let it roll. A quintessential slice of the Pie, displaying all the sassy balls and swagger of a great 70's British blues-rock band, with a touch of soul. Smokin' brings the listener back to a musical era before click tracks and digital sterility became the standard. The groove is organic. The feel is infectious. No stems or seeds that you don't need.
Tastiest Pie.......2005-10-01
Despite having lost Frampton, this is the best studio album that Steve Marriott and his merrymen ever did. 30 Days is the quintessential rock single. The heaviness of The Fixers is counterd by So Good, which was so good that the Stones ripped it off for Till the Next Goodbye. To quote Greg Kihn, they just don't write em like this any more.
5 stars is not enuf. .......2005-06-22
The fact that there are not 1000's of reviews praising this cd is a shame. Its hard to imagine how this band was written off(somewhat) after Frampton left. This is maybe my favorite cd/album of all time. If you have ears, a brain and a heart, you have to be moved by this mix of soul & rock so perfectly blended. Marriot-the voice, Ridley-the bass, Shirley-heaviest drums(that crash/ride symobl), Clem-made me go out and buy a wah-pedal. Nothing better. Bands like Jet are bascically a 2000's version of this band. Buy it. Love it. Live it. I dont think their in that so called "Hall of Fame", which proves how useless it is.
BUY IT!
BYPASS THIS HORRIBLE-SOUNDING RELIC FOR THE 2007 JAPANESE REMASTER!.......2005-03-05
This domestic "Smokin'" CD, along with the rest of the domestic Pie discs, are still the same crappy, 35+ year old, vinyl-EQ'd masters, which all sound like music emanating from an AM radio: No bottom, no definition, no soundstage, nothing.
*** HOWEVER ***
On 2/14/07, Universal Japan released the entire Humble Pie A&M catalog, plus the "Marriott" solo album, in remastered, mini-sleeve packaging.
These remasters are GLORIOUS. It's so great to finally hear all the great Smokin' tracks the way the band recorded them.
You will not believe the transformation of the sound of the Pie rhythm section in the new mastering. Jerry Shirley's drums rock the house and Greg Ridley THUNDERS, but you can hear every bass note so distinctly, it sounds like you're standing right next to his cabinet... Man, this is how it's SUPPOSED to sound!
The initial production run of the five central Pie titles (Humble Pie, Rock On, Performance, Smokin' & Eat It) have already sold out in Japan, so don't delay in getting yours!
Four of the five Japanese remasters are now the audio benchmarks for these titles: The 2006 UK Repertoire version of the third album, "Humble Pie", definitely has more clarity than the Japanese version, especially in the drums.
Perhaps now, Universal U.S. will get up off its lazy collective a** and make these fabulous remasters available.
Until that day, grab the Japanese CD's before they're gone, as all mini-sleeve CD's are limited edition.

Humble Pie.......2007-05-12
This has rock you may have forgotten about but its worth the memories
Higher Standards.......2007-05-08
Ramsay's standard of excellence in his kitchens is the epitome of what we should all expect in our own lives.
Why is this not available in the US?.......2007-04-16
Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that this album has finally been reissued on cd, and Repetoire records out of Germany has done a fine job, but can somebody please tell me why no US label has put this out yet? The combination of Steve Marriott's vocals and Peter Frampton's lead guitar never sounded better than on this, and the rhythm section of Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley is probably one of the most underrated in all of rock and roll. No obvious radio hits, just an entire disc full of great, hard-hitting songs. (as an aside, those that mistakenly think Peter Frampton is good for nothing but cheesy 70's pop-rock should check out his lead guitar on songs like "Red Light Mama..." and "I'm Ready.")
Hard to Beat.......2007-03-09
Years ago I had this album and listened to it over and over again. It was like I stepped into a time machine when I heard this again after 30 odd years. This thing has been remastered beautifully! My band is often compared to Humble Pie and I consider that a huge compliment.
BETTER REMASTER THAN THE 2007 JAPANESE MINI-SLEEVE.......2007-02-17
I just received a set of the 2007 Humble Pie Japanese mini-sleeves today.
The remastered audio on all of the new Japanese CD's easily exceed the horrid-sounding, 35+ year-old, LP-EQ'd masters of the entire domestic Pie A&M CD catalog.
However, upon an A/B comparison, the new Japanese CD did not stand up to this UK Repertoire remaster.
In the Repertoire, there is definitely more clarity to the entire recording, especially in the percussion.
If you already own the Repertoire disc, don't feel panicked to get the Japanese edition, although, the Japanese sleeve, which replicates the gatefold and woven-textured finish of the original HP LP-album cover, is decidely very cool.

One of The Best Rock Albums of All Time.......2007-03-09
If I had to list the top 10 rock albums of all time this one would be there. Few albums define a 'band' the way this album defines the Humble Pie sound. I love this album!
Humble Pie - 'Rock On' (Universal).......2007-02-11
Originally released in 1971,as I'm not exactly sure if this was their second or fourth album.Tracks here that had me playing this CD over several times were "Shine On" (didn't this cut later become a Peter Frampton song?),the fantastic soul rocker "Sour Grain","Stone Cold Forever",the ballad "A Song For Jenny" and "Red Neck Jump".Basically, good damn GOOD heavy blues-rock.Recommemded.
Huge at the time, little known now.......2006-12-22
After the first two English-country tinged import albums, Humble Pie went under contract with A&M and delivered two knockout albums before Frampton went solo. It may sound unbelievable, but in its time this band was competing with the likes of the Rolling Stones for rock supremacy, and really had some of what it took to do that. Marriott and Frampton had a dual vocal and guitar attack thing going, and the backbone was solid (ex-Spooky Tooth bassist Greg Ridley and a kid named Jerry Shirley on drums). They were arena big, and crunched huge, "Stone Cold Fever" is a tank.
Frampton really dashed the band, because while Marriott was a star in his own light, like any NBA fan knows, you need two stars to win championships. And this is really as far as they got, Marriott's follow-ups were kind of sludgy without Frampton's ringing guitar work, and eventually the band faded away. But if you go through the trouble of getting your hands on the first two imports and the first two US releases, you'll have four albums of some really hot music, for the day at least. And while you're at it, pick up Frampton's first four albums as well . . . before his hair went pink.
Forgotten Rock n Roll.......2006-08-22
This album from the early 70s,is sadley unknown now in the UK. Steve Mariot, formaly of the Small Faces put together a great band in Humble Pie. The music speaks for Itself.
This album Rocks On.......2006-07-10
This is a classic. A must have to any classic rock collection.

On 2/14/07, Universal Japan released the entire Humble Pie A&M catalog, plus the "Marriott" solo album, in remastered, mini-sleeve packaging.
These remasters are GLORIOUS. This 2006 jewel-case re-release does not have the 2007 mini-sleeve's mastering.

EATIN' LOT'S OF PIE.......2006-11-29
This 1973 Release hit Record Stores at the Peak of " PIEMANNIA ". With their three Biggest Records Behind them, "Rock On"'. "Performance, Rockin' the Filmore", and "Smokin" gaining big sales and now Topping the bill (in the USA) as a Headliner, Humble Pie like The Faces were really enjoying their life's as Real Rock N' Roll stars. Led by Ex-Small Face, Steve Marriot, with Guitarist Clem Clemson, and the Fantastic Bass Guitar of Greg Ridley and the young Drummer Jerry Shirley, these Guy's had seen it all since forming (with Peter Frampton who left for a Solo Career after Recording the Amazing "Live at the Filmore" in 1971}.
This Two Record Set was Broken down into Four Parts, Side One was the "Rock" side, Side Two was the "Soul" side, Side Three was the "Acoustic / Quiet" side and Side Four was the "Concert" side, and it all fits nicely on this single CD.
The Opener "Get Down To It" sets the tone to the Rock Numbers, with Backing Vocals by the Blackberries, Steve had set his Music much closer to "Soul" Music than ever before, and as the "Sound" of The Pie had Evolved, we should have all saw it coming, But for the Fan's that jumped on with "Rock On" & "Smokin" it was all kind of a Shock to see a Soul review added to a "Hard Rock" Show. For my ears it DOES work much better on this Record than it did on Stage, where much of the Show was about the Back-Up singers and not about the Guitars like it SHOULD have been. The Second Number "Good Booze and Bad Women" was a Kick-A## Number that would have been Perfect for The Live Show, But, Alas Steve didn't play it Live and stuck more the "Soul Numbers" like "Black Coffee", "I Believe to my Soul" & "Shut Up and Don't Interrupt Me" and that "The Finest Rock N' Roll Band in the Land" was now a Soul/Gospel Act was a Loss to Many a Teenage Boy {Myself, included}.
The Tracks (Black Coffee thru That's How Strong My Love Is) are fine Songs, But they are NOT HUMBLE PIE SONGS, if I wan't the Temptations, I'll buy the Temptations, NUFF SAID.
The Acoustic Tunes: "Say No More" thru "Summer Song" harken back to Frampton Day's of the 1st & 2nd Records "As Safe As Yesterday" & "Town & Country" they are Pretty and Steve sing's Em' from the heart... Side Three was always my favorite part of "Eat It" and the Best Song on this Record is Right here and it's called "Beckton Dumps", it's about a Squat that Steve once lived in, and it's a Mighty Rocker...Pie at their BEST!
The Last Three numbers come from the 1972-73 Stage Show, "Up Our Sleeve" was the Show Opener, it ROCKS and it ROCKS HARD, Classic Pie, Just the Way you like em'. The great Stone's Ditty "Honky Tonk Woman" was the Encore at Winterland, May 73 and "Road Runner was also featured. The Pie Headlined that night with Steely Dan and Slade. We Didn't mind the Back-up singers (they were Sexy)... We didn't mind the Ray Charles Song... We didn't mind Steve playing the Organ INSTEAD of his Gibson Les Paul for about HALF the tunes... We got to see HUMBLE PIE !!! AND THEY ROCKED !!!
I MISS THEM...

A Good Slice O' Pie!!!.......2003-10-13
With the release of both anthologies Millennium and Hot 'N Nasty, music fans should be able to restore Humble Pie to their rightful niche in rock history as one of the founding fathers of seventies hard rock. The tragedy is that Steve Marriott, until the day he died, wanted to be an r and b/soul singer instead. This explains the presence of the Blackberries; though they are luscious background singers (especially on "Black Coffee" their one cut included here), their straight rhythm and blues vocals often clashed with the Pie's harder rocking sound. Thankfully, the band's hard rock material, not the later blue-eyed soul Pie, is featured here: "Four Day Creep," "Hot 'N Nasty," the underrated "Big Black Dog," and "30 Days in the Hole" (complete with memorable rehearsal introduction) are all included here, plus a fantastic cover of the Muddy Waters classic "Rollin' Stone" that proves that hard rock and blues can and do indeed mix to perfection. "Shine On" is a great Peter Frampton cut, but his best number is of course "I Don't Need No Doctor," still a staple of his live performances today. It really rocks the Fillmore and proves that he and Steve enjoyed a special chemistry together that neither could fully replicate alone. Enjoy this tasty slice of pie with a cup of strong, fresh-brewed black coffee! Bottoms up!!!
Stingy collection of songs.......2003-05-13
All of the songs on this collection are great--not a lemon in the bunch. But with only 52 minutes of music, it's an inadequate offering. There is so much else that could have been added including: Get Down To It, Honky Tonk Woman, I Can't Stand the Rain, 99 Pounds, Road Runner, Good Booze and Bad Women, Every Single Day, The Fixer, Anna and many others. Also, the 20 second introduction to I Don't Need No Doctor was chopped off.
Sounds better, rocks hard.......2002-07-29
First: Even though the Pie was just redone a couple years ago for the "Hot 'N Nasty" collection, this CD sounds even better. I don't know who's doing all the remastering now, but the Pie [and recent James Gang remasters] sound better than they have in years!
Even the selction was made with some care, including the "probably not best of" songs 'Four Day Creep' and 'Big Black Dog' alongside Pie classics like 'Hot N Nasty', '30 Days in the Hole', 'Stone Cold Fever' and the powerful live take of 'I Don't Need No Doctor' just reinforces how strong this band was. This is a CD you can just groove right along with all day long. Lots of air guitar predicted.
My gripes are only the inclusion of 'C'Mon Everybody' (just never did it for me) and 'Rollin' Stone.' I would have liked liked 'Buttermilk Boy' and maybe one more track from "Eat It" or "Rock On." But that's just MY 2 cents worth.
Great starting point for beginers, great for reintroducing yourself to one of the 'lost' English blues/soul bands (Re: influence on the Black Crowes) or a great gift for an uncle (or your Dad) for raiding his record collection back in the day.
Heavy Metal classic band.......2002-07-14
This is a good sample of the classic metal group Humble Pie.
If you like this there are some other heavy groups similer to this with their own Millenium collection: Wishbone Ash, Savoy Brown, Cream, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple. If you enjoy heavy metal from the late 60's and early 70's, you will love these compilations. Humble Pie was a British band that tried to play as loud and hard as possible. They were very good and when the group featured Peter Frampton on lead guitar, they could give any heavy group of the time a run for their money (including Led Zeppelin).
Timeless Classic Rock.............2001-12-15
That's some kick-A** Classic CD of Humble Pie just one jam going into another good jam. This Classic Album is so good that when you listen to it it's already done.....They left some timeless masterpiece...

Excellent Collection From Humble Pie!.......2006-10-03
Seeing as though A&M Records here in the United States has pretty much ignored Humble Pie's catalog (most are availble from Japan as expensive imports) this collection is way long overdo. Founded by ex-Small faces Stevie Marriott and who's lineup included one highly talented guitarist/songwriter named Peter Frampton who originally was a member of The Herd, a British pop rock act, Humble Pie are best compared to Led Zeppelin in that they played soul combined with rock n' roll with lots of grunt. This collection includes seventeen tracks spanning the band's seventies career. The standouts are many including several songs from the band's excellent "Performance: Rockin' The Fillmore" album with "I Don't Need No Doctor" and "Four Day Creep". Other superb tracks include "Natural Born Woman", "Big Black Dog", "Live With Me", "Shine On", "Stone Cold Fever", "Hot N' Nasty", "30 Days In The Hole" and "Black Coffee". Frampton would leave after three years with the band to pursue what would become a highly successful solo career. Humble Pie continued to record several excellent albums following Frampton's departure such as "Smokin" and "Eat It" but unfortunately the followup albums "Thunderbox" and "Street Rats" were unsuccessful for the most part and when Marriott reformed Humble Pie in the eighties the few albums released then were hardly noticed. In 1991 talks of a reunion with Peter Frampton would unfortunately never materialize due to Marriott's death that year and the world lost an extremely talented singer/songwriter. The remastering on this "Definitve Collection" is excellent with crisp highs, increased midrange and extended output levels. A must have for classic rock fans worldwide.

I'm glad !.......2007-02-20
I was looking for this CD for a long time, now I have it. Perfect !
A fun blast from The Pie's bluesy past.......2006-08-06
With the exception of a lackluster version of "Drift Away" -- to describe it as "plaintive" does it too much justice -- this is a fine import CD from Japan. (I expected a U.K. import.) The late Steve Marriott is in fine form belting out some heartfelt blues and tunes that hold up extremely well.
It's a shame the CD package doesn't capture the lost art of the clever original album cover.
The music more than makes up for that lost nostalgia.
I'd waited for this release and my patience was rewarded.

Customer Reviews:
I WAS THERE !!!.......2007-06-21
Yes, it's True, I was at Winterland that night and it was indeed Quite a SHOW. The Doors Opened right on Time at 6:30 and of course we headed for the Floor, This was Humble Pie !!! So, we were gonna be Down Front, Outta the Way, Hipsters. This ain't no Quicksilver Show, this was Mighty English Rock at it's Finest and we were STOKED, and very STONED.
First band on Stage: STEELY DAN, The Original Band with Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter on Guitar & David Palmer on Vocals. The Dan ROCKED !!! They Played almost everything from their Classic first Record, and "Do it Again" featured a Mean Solo of 'Plastic Organ' as Donald Fagen, called it. We all knew these guys would be Headliners the next time they came to Town, {They DIDN'T Tour again for over 20 YEARS!}.
The Middle Group was the: "Glam Band of the Week...SLADE. I had never heard of this Lot, BUT, they had had a Number One Hit in England, So here they be in all their Glory and Glitter, The Lead Guitar Player looked like a Martian and he had "ODD GOB" written on his Silver Suit. The Band KISS stole lot's of Ideas from these Boys, I never met a soul who actually Bought one of their Records, Ever.
Well, after almost an hour...TA DAAAA....HUMBLE PIE !!! And Loudly, they cranked out; "Up Our Sleeve", there is only One word to describe this assualt on our senses, POWER !!! The second Tune? What else, could it be but "4 Day Creep" from the "Live at the Filmore Record", When the Crowd heard the First Notes of this, We all went NUTS. Next Steve introduced the Back-Up Singers: The Blackberries, and sat at a White Hammond organ, and launched into "Black Coffee" with a Dirty Rap Directed Right at the Girls and what he had planned to do to them after the Show, this is not on the King Biscuit Master because of the Subject Matter {it's R Rated).
There were a few more 'Soul Numbers' performed, and just in time Steve jumped up from behind his Big Organ {His Pun, Not Mine} and Got back to Serious Rock Business once again with a KILLER: "Stone Cold Fever" that went on & on, it was Plenty longer than the "Filmore" version, It was Majestic and had some really pretty playing in the Middle section, the Guitar Leads by Clem and Steve were Amazing! This one Needs to see the light of Day again, and alas, it ISN'T on this CD...$#!*
Also, not included is the Long, long version of "Rollin' Stone" they played that Night, again this would be due to the Lyric Content as they are very sexual, BUT, this version was way different from the other live Version and is also merits an Official Release.
I am glad "30 Days" made it to the Record, BUT, again there is an EDIT here as Steve introduced it with a long funny Rap, that is Not here as well as ANOTHER Rap right in the middle of this Crowd pleaser. It isn't included as well, This Song could be from Another Night, and Not the May 6 Winterland show, if it IS Winterland, it's a great Edit.
Some of the best Stuff IS here: "Halleluah, I Love her So" and "Hot N' Nasty" were SMOKIN'...these are the Best versions of these Pie Classics, out there. The Show closed with "Doctor", and again this was a great version. The encore on this night was "Honky Tonk Woman" and then "Roadrunner". It was all over by 2AM {The Official Winterland Closing Time}, if a show ran later than that they Closed the doors and became a "Private Party" until dawn.
I do wish we had the ENTIRE SHOW here, (it would take 2 CD's) because there is less than half of The Pie's set included here. But, I doubt that will ever happen. This was a GREAT NIGHT at Winterland, and I will always Remember just How GREAT it was to see this Band Up-Close.
FOUR STARS...
Humble Pie - 'King Biscuit Flower Hour: In Concert' (King Biscuit).......2007-02-20
This is one King Biscuit Flower Hour CD that until here recently, I avoided because Peter Frampton had already left the band. Foolish me! 'King Biscuit' is a must-have archive recording. If you've ever been a true Humble Pie fan, you're sure to dig this ten track S-M-O-K-I-N' disc as much as I did, if not more. Frampton's replacement, guitarist Dave Clempson did a great job of filling in. This gig took place on May 6, 1973 at the Winterland Theater in San Francisco. Sound quality is great, I thought. Couldn't ask for more. Tunes that'll have me listening to my radio a bit less are "Four Day Creep", "C'Mon Everybody", their Stones cover "Honky Tonk Woman", Humble Pie's staple "30 Days In The Hole", the blues rock standard "Roadrunner" (wish I had a dime for every band that's played this tune), and the rousing "I Don't Need No Doctor". Question: does British blues rock get much better than this? I say, no it doesn't.
The Real Rock N Roll Goods!.......2007-01-21
You know, I like the Black Crowes. Really, I do. But every time I listen to them I get the feeling that something's missing, especially in regards to their live cds. So, when it's time scratch a serious rock n roll itch, this is where I turn!
Comparing this or Rockin' The Filmore to any of the live Crowe releases makes it clear that the Pie was the real deal!! Steve Marriott was an incredible vocalist/showman and the band as a whole just rocks!
IMHO this KBFH release is so good (Hot And Nasty is worth the price alone!) that it's even better than Rockin' The Filmore - which is a stone classic in it's own right. The track listings are distinct enough that you should own both of them.
wish it was here.......2006-07-10
I have heard this LP before. I am buying it for an 18 year old Finlander female that never heard of Humble Pie nor Steve Marriott. The only bad thing is I have been waiting for over a month and it was for her birthday in June. Aside from the long time for delivery I was well aware of the way better recording on the Biscuit as opposed to the Filmore.
Steve freakin Marriott.......2005-11-18
This album is absolutely amazing. It is quite possibly my favorite live recording, and always blows my mind when i hear it. I shouldn't even waste your time by reviewing this for you, it just isnt necessary. Buy this then watch it burn your cd player.
