Hamlet sound track - Patrick Doyle.......2006-03-10

I spent a lot of time trying to get hold of this CD but I must say I am mildly disappointed. I thought Patrick Doyle's music for Branagh's Henry V was brilliant and that was why I was determined to obtain this sound track as well. Henry V is not Hamlet in terms of theme and plot but I think the music here tends to be too low key and lacking in drive, unlike Henry V. It is still very good in places and clearly the work of an excellent composer, but not quite up to Doyle's previous standard.

Patrick Doyle has truly composed an awesome piece of work. The score is so well done that you can feel the emotion coming through the music alone. This is by far my favorite soundtrack and I listen to it quite often.

Fantastic collaborations.......2001-06-12

Doyle fans are aware that he collaborates regularly with actor/director, Kenneth Brannagh. With the Hamlet score, he again writes powerful complementary music which also stands alone as worthy to be performed in concert. I would be interested to hear lengthier tracks such as accompanied the lengthy, but indeed beautiful and patient, movie. (The only mistake was Billy Crystal in the movie. I thought Robin Williams did fine work.) Although, I confess, this is my least listened to in my soundtrack collection, I do enjoy it, and believe it deserves accolades.

Patrick Doyle's finest score.......2000-06-26

This is certainly one of my top 3 Patrick Doyle scores and a towering achievement. The score unfolds like a great romantic symphony encompassing several moods from serenity and inner peace ("In Pace"), to violence and lush gothic undertones ("The Ghost", "Now, could I drink hot blood"), and a finaly sense of joyous celebration ("Fanfare", "What Players are they?"). After listening constantly to Mr. Doyle's scores for "Henry V", "Much ado about nothing" and "Frankenstein", I thought he could never top such achievements and somehow he did: "Hamlet" is a masterpiece of thematic inventiveness and dramatic power. The playing is wonderful and the engineering is very clear, taking full advantage of Air Lyndhurst's glorious acoustics. If you are a fan of british classical music or a Shakespeare fan (or even better, a fan of Patrick Doyle), don't pass up this CD. Great film music. No: great music. Period!

Soldiers of Misfortune.......2006-06-02

It's the mid-80s and the Outlaws get swept up in synths and drums that sound like drum machines. The songs are so lackluster I doubt that the original lineup could have saved them. This may be the absolute nadir of the Florida Guitar Army; there must have been a thousand bar bands pumping out better stuff than this in 1986.

"Cold Harbor" is a decent track, but it sounds like it should be on a CSNY album.

This is probably the most solid effort by the Outlaws since their debut album. Ever since their first album, the Outlaws put out albums that were strong on side one and weak on side two.
"Soliders of Fortune" is solid throughout. The band remains true to their southern rock roots with songs such as "Whatcha Don't Do","Soliders of Fortune" and "Lady Luck." Songs such as "One Last Ride" and the "Night Cries" show the band expanding into ballads highlighted with keyboards and synthesizers. Henry Paul's "Cold Harbor" is the best song on the album. Paul provides a history lesson in this song. It took a long time for this album to become available on cd. It has been worth the wait.
If your an Outlaws fan, you probably have this one in your collection. If your not familiar with this band buy this disc, you won't be disapointed

Henry Paul's Return And A New Sound Mark This One.......2004-11-07

Henry Paul returned to the Outlaws for SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE, but the sound did not return to the long guitar jams of the early years. Instead, the Outlaws introduced new elements, like synthesizers and drum machines, to create a sound rooted in the Old South but suited for 1986. This album is not on the level of the band's 1975-1982 heyday, but it's still worth five stars for successfully compromising the 70s Southern boogie style with the new sounds that were then taking over the airwaves. Besides, even slicked-up Outlaws is more real and soulful than, say, the very best material by Duran Duran or Firefall.

Henry Paul Returns !!!.......2004-11-03

Henry Paul returns to the Outlaws . His sound and style helps bring the sound of this band back to the triumphant sounds of the early days of songs like Hurry Sundown and There Goes Another Love Song . Cold Harbor is a great tune that sends chills down your spine recalling this battle of the civil war . The title cut as well as Whatcha Don't Do showcase the bands rocking side as well . It's a shame that rock radio never gave this album the time of day . But sadly by the mid 80's , rock radio was not giving the time of day to southern rock anyway and killed record sales for this type of music . If you love this band's early stuff , then buy this CD .

The tunes in John Playford's The English Dancing Master have been recorded frequently and are a staple in English country dance circles. Jeremy Barlow and the Broadside Band present here some of the best renditions of these tunes that are currently available on CD. I strongly recommmed this CD for anyone interested in Renaissance music, country dance music, or just plain ole' fun music.

Hall of Justus taking of rap??.......2006-12-29

For those of you who dont know who any of these artists are in the Hall of Justus, u need to adjust the volume, cause like the title states, it sounds like HOJ is taking the rap game over. From the acclaimed trio of Little Brother, to L.E.G.A.C.Y., to Chaundon, to Joe Scudda, to their newest member Jozeemo, all these artists are straight lyricists. And on the production side of things, u got the infamous 9th Wonder and the "soon to be known as one of the best producers in the game", Khrysis. There are some really insane tracks on this cd and only maybe 1 or 2 throw-away tracks. So with 19 tracks on this cd, it shouldnt even be question on whether or not to buy this cd, cop it and drop it.
