If the producers of the movie Happy Feet had enough foresight, they would have dispatched a CD vendor with batches of this disc to every theater exit sign in America. Outside of Shrek and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, few kiddie flicks have fed a need to hear certain songs again as effectively. That's in part because of "Song of the Heart," a suitably frisky Prince number you won't find anywhere else. But it also has something to do with the efforts of some unlikely performers. Who knew Brittany Murphy could sing? "Boogie Wonderland," her cover of the '70s classic, crackles with big-voiced confidence, and "Somebody to Love," another classic cover, claws listeners in by the flipper-ful. Even Robin Williams's typically manic "My Way (a Mi Manera)" isn't without its charms. Nicole Kidman's "Kiss" mashed with Hugh Jackman's "Heartbreak Hotel" may be among the disc's weaker moments, but the grownups will like it that way--with their kind of star wattage, they're already stealing enough shows. And there's plenty to focus on besides them: standouts include Pink's untethered rendition of "Tell Me Something Good," k.d. lang's beautiful Beatles medley "Golden Slumbers/The End," and the Beach Boys' underappreciated gem, "Do It Again." --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Soundtrack to a comedy adventure--Happy Feet is set deep in Antarctica. Into the land of the Emperor Penguins where each needs a heart song to attract a sould mate, a penguin is born who cannot sing. Our hero Mumble, son of Memphis and Norma Jean, is the worst singer in the world...however, as it happens, he is a brilliant tap dancer!Customer Reviews:
only one song I play over and over.......2007-07-24
OK, the re-done songs by Brittany Murphy and Robin Williams are cool. I can even get with the fact that the only reason they re-did them was so their voices matched the voices in the movie.
I can't get enough of the song "Hit Me Up" by Gia Farrell. The CD sits in my car CD player on "1 song repeat" only on this song.
If you can download just this song onto your MP3 player or iPod, then just get the one song.
Otherwise, make sure you listen to samples of ALL the songs to make sure you really want to buy the entire CD.
I hope for a "reprise" too. HEY MOVIE PRODUCERS : Give us the music IN THE MOVIE!!!!!

Pure Money Grab.......2007-07-08
The superstar cast, the song selection, the musical performers, the dialogue...just what about this is for children? Is it the sassy remake of Prince's sex-you-up classic "Kiss"? The use of the word "flippin'" instead of the f-bomb? Robin Williams' reprise of his Good Morning Vietnam character? Somebody, feel free to share.
Is this soundtrack-disguised-as-a-movie for children, or an oldies CD that parents can get away with playing in the car? (Assuming, of course, the car doesn't have one of those handy DVD players in the backseat.)
To a nation obsessed with American Idol, this is considered "good stuff" -- once again, reminding us all that there is no accounting for taste. Especially in 2007.

Album Description
The Turtles are one of the most fondly remembered '60s pop actsquite an achievement considering that they came up in an era dominated by Motown, The Beatles and other musical giants. After releasing a series of chart-topping singles, including the #1 hit "Happy Together," the band broke up in 1970. Singers Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan continued as a duo under the name Flo & Eddie, recording albums, hosting their own syndicated radio show, and singing backup for T. Rex, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Blondie, and many others. In 1985, they reformed The Turtles as a very successful touring outfit.Happy Together: The Very Best Of The Turtles collects the band's biggest hits, including the career-defining "Happy Together" and Top 20 smash hits "You Showed Me," "You Baby," and "Elenore." The album also features an early Warren Zevon-penned song, "Outside Chance," and Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe," as well as the classic protest anthem "Eve of Destruction."

wonderful.......2007-06-24
However, Happy Trails is just the opposite. The reviewer below is right- if you like the Grateful Dead's "Live/Dead" album or even some of the spookier Doors moments when they are letting loose and jamming out, this album won't disappoint. Throw in some melodic guitar jams with lots of delicious licks and really good and unpredictable bass work, and you got yourself a quality album.
Even if you don't care for the versions of "Who Do You Love" that you may have heard, you can ignore all those versions because this is a VERY different song. It takes the theme of that song and expands and builds on the melody in various ways. An album created to satisfy all the guitar jam fans out there. It's awesome. A must buy.
If you liked "Live Dead", You'll love this.......2007-05-15
These were musicians playing music for the music, not for major $$$s.
By the way, for those who like the dual lead format, Wishbone Ash was and still is dual lead - check out Argus for starters (from around the same era - esp the cuts "The King will Come" and "Warrior"). The re-issue CD has some bonus live tracks, with an extended version of Phoenix.
Also, back around that time, Fleetwood Mac was also dual lead - check out "Then Play On", esp the cuts "Rattlesnake Shake" and the two cuts about "Madge".
Also, regarding Dino V, I heard QMS live at the Ampitheator twice in Chicago, once pre-Dino and once after - definately liked them better With John C.
Hope this helps,
Scott
A musical experience like no other...........2007-04-22
The hard part was to get enough strength to get up and turn the record over to side 2! Then that whole 2nd side just took you on a completely different journey. All I know is, whenever we dropped, Happy Trails was ALWAYS played. A night wasn't complete without jamming out to this album (Hendrix's 'Axis: Bold As Love' was another favorite).
I saw John Cipollina perform with a group called The Dinosaurs in a small rock hall in Denver, back in 1983. It was probably one of the best performances I ever saw, completely blew me away. That's what turned me onto Quicksilver, later coming across this album. By the way....some of you may recall that the front cover art (depicting the man riding away on the horse) morphed into something completely different (as the artist intended it), while dropping. I mean this whole album - inside & out - was an experience in itself.

Amazon.com essential recording
Compared with the Broadway cast recording, the 1956 soundtrack to the film version of The King and I wins hands down. Yul Brynner is the king (literally and figuratively) in both formats (how could anyone else own such a role?), but the movie's score has better sonics, Brynner's voice is stronger, and the tunes are more memorable (thanks to Alfred Newman's conducting and Ken Darby's scoring) than on any of the various cast recordings. Marni Nixon sings the role of Anna (played onscreen by Deborah Kerr), Brynner delivers his hallmark performance, and the best-loved tunes--"Hello, Young Lovers," "Getting to Know You," and "I Whistle a Happy Tune" are the versions we'll always remember. A classic. --James HendricksonCustomer Reviews:

The King and I--a distinguished, beautiful score laced with tenderness and sorrow.......2007-04-08
The CD starts off with the music for the "main title" of the film; and this also serves as an appetizer to whet out appetites for what's to come. "I Whistle A Happy Tune" gives us Marni Nixon singing the vocals for Deborah Kerr; the melody is infectiously catchy; this song is one of the highlights of the CD. "My Lord And Master," performed by Leona Gordon who sang the vocals for Rita Moreno, is another masterpiece with a softness to it that belies the pain Rita's character Tuptim feels because she is separated from her one true love. "The March Of The Siamese Children" is performed by the 20th Century Fox Orchestra to perfection without a single superfluous note; the melody infuses this number with an Asian flavor as well.
Other gems on this CD--and that would, quite honestly, include every single track--include "Hello, Young Lovers" sung by Marni Nixon as Deborah Kerr's character Anna Leonowens laments a love gone awry back in England; the touching and heartrending "We Kiss In A Shadow;" Terry Saunders as Lady Thiang performing "Something Wonderful" with exceptional sensitivity and "Shall We Dance?" which is performed by Deborah Kerr, Marni Nixon and Yul Brynner. As you listen to numbers like "Shall We Dance?" that calls for Anna, played by Deborah Kerr, to speak and then sing, you will have a hard time discerning where Deborah Kerr leaves off speaking and Marni Nixon starts singing. It's THAT good.
As long as I include the words "Something Wonderful" when writing this review I must add that the extras you get are stupendous. As I stated above, the CD boasts much that the record album soundtrack never included. Indeed, we get music that didn't even make it to the final cut of the movie! I loved the beautiful and sensitive rendition of "The Small House Of Uncle Thomas" which was previously unreleased and "Shall I Tell You What I Think Of You" is a marvelous song--cut from the final edited edition of the film--that highlights Anna's contempt for the King's backward ways.
The CD package offers more still. Along with the CD comes a generous 32 page booklet with an extensive essay by Charles L. Granata that tells the history of both the stage play and the making of the stage play into a major motion picture at Fox. In addition, you get the song credits and there are rarely seen photographs as well.
The quality of the sound shines like solid gold. These performances reflect great sensitivity to the emotions each character felt. It is a special treat to listen to Yul Brynner's songs; he infuses each song and even every word with just the right emotions so that the listener experiences exactly what his character feels at every turn.
This CD is one of the very few that truly remind me of the old MGM logo which boasted of having "more stars than there are in the heavens." Indeed, five stars are nowhere near enough for this treasure. I highly recommend this CD for people who truly loved and appreciated The King And I both in its several onstage productions as well as on the big screen; and fans of show tunes will delight in this CD soundtrack with its' diamonds scattered broadly in all directions.
A fine King and I soundtrack reissue.......2007-02-10
I won't reiterate the critic-proof performances here. Other reviewers have covered them elsewhere. Nixon as a voice-dubber is in her element as Anna, and portrays her characterfully. Brynner is in his element as the King, as firm, commanding and authoritative as we've always known him to be. This performance shows him at his best, ripe, fresh and mature. Leona Gordon and Reuben Fuentes shine as the star-crossed lovers Tuptim and Lun Tha, bringing a melancholic quality to their brief numbers. It's really a treat to hear their renditions of the omitted songs My Lord and Master and I Have Dreamed. Rita Moreno as the real Tuptim acquits herself well when narrating the Uncle Tom's Cabin ballet sequence, presented for the first time on an official soundtrack recording. It's good to also hear Terry Saunders as Lady Thiang, in a heartfelt, humane and imploring rendition of Something Wonderful, and she is the icing on the cake of this superb soundtrack recording.
This EMI-Angel R&H soundtrack offers an extra benefit in addition to the extra musical sequences. Unlike the companion CDs of Oklahoma and Carousel, it presents the extra material from the original unmixed studio vault masters, except for the Prayer to Buddha and the Uncle Tom's Cabin ballet. This means that this reissue is blessedly free of the extraneous sound effects that plague the Oklahoma and Carousel CDs. I know that the sound effects and little snippets of dialogue drown out the music, but at least these reissues are a start in presenting comprehensive R&H soundtracks worthy of their films. What a pity that none of these R&H soundtrack reissues aren't 2-CD sets, otherwise we would have been able to hear the underscore.
In short, this is a superb presentation of a fine R&H film soundtrack.

It doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally kitsch burrows itself into the popular consciousness and stays put because it's timelessly, compellingly good. Such is the case with The Very Best of the Partridge Family, which at long last allows pop aficionados who have closeted their dirty-little-secret obsession with the fictitious TV group to come clean. Never mind the ruffles and dove-wing lapelsheartthrob hang-ups aside, David Cassidy can sing (skip "I Think I Love You" and check his soul chops on the raging "Roller Coaster" or his Elvis-like vocal nuances on "Point Me in the Direction of Albuquerque" instead.) And it doesn't hurt that the material he crooned was penned by some of the era's top songwriters. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill, for example, lent their graceful imagery to "Looking Through the Eyes of Love," and Gerry Goffin was behind "I'll Meet You Halfway." Add to that the band's layered-harmony-nailing background singers and a stash of sensational session players, and it can't be helped: You get happy. -Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:

On Happy This Way, Los Angeles- and New Orleans-dwelling Welsh singer-songwriter Judith Owen pays homage to her native Britain. The album is co-produced by Owen and John Fischbach, engineer of Stevie Wonder's classic 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life, and ranges in mood and style from the fun British Invasion pop-rock of "Painting by Numbers" to the wistful chamber-pop of the strings-laden "Conway Bay." The album features a number of Owen's compatriot friends, including her frequent collaborator Julia Fordham, jazz vocalist extraordinaire Ian Shaw, and others.Customer Reviews:
far too good to be a secret.......2007-07-11
And so I wondered: What kind of singer would this sharp-eared, hyper-critical guy marry?
Well, a very talented singer. And a kindred spirit.
Harry Shearer was a child actor. Judith Owen's father was, for 35 years, an opera singer who performed with many of the greats while his young daughter watched from the wings. Handel Owen --- what a name! --- had eclectic taste for a classical musician; Judith grew up listening to jazz and gospel. (Though the Owens lived in London, the Beatles were completely off her radar for this self-described "opera brat".)
When she was 15, her mother died. For refuge, Judith took to songwriting. She had an eccentric genius as a pianist: "I have a perfect ear and I can hear everything; I can't read or write music as I am symbol dyslexic." All she needed was the urge to perform. And once that came....
Judith Owen has spent years and years on the verge. James Brooks, the noted writer-director, heard her sing at a party and had her record "Hand On My Heart" for "As Good As It Gets". Her versions of "Eye of the Tiger" and "Smoke on the Water" --- as a ballad --- are cult classics. But she's hard to pigeonhole; she refuses to record a CD in any single genre. And so industry mavens don't quite know what to do with her.
Great musicians do. Richard Thompson, k.d. lang, Cassandra Wilson --- they happily record with Judith Owen. To them, she's Joni Mitchell, incarnated as a torch singer. Rickie Lee Jones singing scat. And, like her husband, a sharp-tongued ironist with a big sentimental streak.
All the sides of Judith Owen are on display in "Happy This Way." She begins with a song that evokes her Welch heritage, and soon finds herself paying homage to doomed English singer Nick Drake. She sounds like an LA hipster when she gives advice to the Paris Hilton set: "Your face in magazines/don't make it look like work." And like an old soul soon after: "I need some sympathy for myself." And, in a lovely song to her father on his 80th birthday, she's all modesty as she describes her friends' reaction to his singing:
I'm proud and I'm pleased
That through him, they must see me
I'm the acorn, he's the tree
I'm aware enough to know that jazz now favors female singers, and that, each year, we get a new one to marvel at. We never seem to get Judith Owen. Our loss. I'm correcting it a tiny bit here: You don't have to sit in a club nursing Jack Daniels to appreciate the deep sensitivity, the good taste and the exceptional voice of Judith Owen

Album Description
You probably know Joe Rogan as the host of the hit show FEAR FACTOR. Or it could be from his turn as Joe Garrelli on NEWS RADIO. Or as the host of the MAN SHOW. Or even more recently as the spokesperson for the UFC. What you may not know is that Joe Rogan is one of the top comedians in the country. He sells out big rooms from coast to coast on the strength of his fantastic comedy and this disc solidifies him as one of the most important voices in the country. Joe's hard-edged, uncensored, and, yes, smart view of the world shines through on his new album (his first, I'm Gonna Be Dead Someday (Warner Bros.) received critical acclaim and solid sales). With sharp insights on the Middle East, sex, religion, and a host of other topics, there are no taboos.Customer Reviews:

Rogan goes out of his way to be articulate and avoids stepping on anyones toes- Some subjects probably seem 'edgy', but he sticks to illustrating a point and doesnt try to score 'un-politically correct' points. The doofy looking CD cover might suggest otherwise.
The Terrence McKenna observation scores extra points in my book. McKenna is the second comming of Christ- Why wouldn't you cite Jesus II.
If he has more better material kicking around (like someone here suggested), I want it on a CD.

The Who's second album is a mite inconsistent, not least because all four members were encouraged by a business deal to churn out songs. A Quick One nonetheless manages several Who classics, notably "A Quick One While He's Away," Pete Townshend's first longform (10 minutes) piece, and John Entwistle's licensed-to-ill "Whiskey Man" and "Boris the Spider." The band's sense of humor, however, gives way on rote pop tunes like Roger Daltrey's "See My Way." But CD bonus tracks like the great "Disguises" (included in a murkier mix than that on the 30 Years of Maximum R&B boxed set) and the Beach Boys tributes "Bucket T" and "Barbara Ann" are a distinct help. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

So Sad About Us & A Quick One, While He's Away
for this record, but they are all classics and John writes 2 of his best ever, Whiskey Man and Boris the Spider. This album is very good and Roger's Don't Look Away is very good for someone who's not considered a songwriter.
A Botched One.......2006-12-07
The CD re-issue adds several bonus tracks of fitful quality. "Disguises", "In the City", "Man With the Money", and the characteristically amusing "Doctor, Doctor" by Entwistle - who may well be the star of the record - help make the disc worth listening to in it's entirety. But the real problem with A Quick One is that it simply never catches fire. At this point, The Who had shown that they were able to crank out decent singles, and that they had the ability and the inspiration to achieve greater things. However, they had yet to deliver a solid album of all original material. That would change in a big way the following year (1967) with The Who Sell Out. But in the wake of A Quick One, the band still had some work to do before its legendary status would be secured.
