Depending on your perspective, Rush's 1980s work either shows growth and maturity, or it lacks the grand craftsmanship, sheer force, and virtuosity of their peak efforts. In the early '80s, Geddy Lee began adding keyboards and synthesizers to the trio's progressive power sound and the results were rewarding: "Tom Sawyer," "Red Barchetta," "New World Man," "Subdivisions," and "Analog Kid" retain much of the magic. However, the departure of producer Terry Brown and the gaining prominence of the keyboards precipitated a noticeable decline from which the band never fully recovered. Despite some notable achievements on this volume, the 1970s companion volume truly captures Rush at its pinnacle. Great stuff !.......2007-04-15

As all "Greatest hits" there is some missing tracks, for instance, where's "YYZ" or "The Manhatan project" ? ...but it is a great cd.
You got the essential of the band for this period, which was the best as far as I am concerned.

Pretty much for the 'casual' Rush fan that doesn't have maybe the space, cash or time to go out to purchase all their CD's individually. On this compilation,you get a few tracks from each of their following albums: 'Moving Pictures' ('81), 'Signals'('82), 'Grace Under Pressure'('84), 'Power Windows' ('85) and 'Hold Your Fire'('87). Some say this wasn't exactly the band's best era. But,hey! Everyone has right to their own opinion.

Why are you putting down Rush and the Beatle's final album? You know who you are Enforcer (or enforcer of bad taste in music). He or she wrote a bad review on this Rush retrospective and gave it only one star. You have terrible taste in music!!!! Rush and the Beatles are two of the greatest bands in rock and roll history!!!! I saw your reviews and you like people like Britney Speers and Pink!!!! That should make you a teenage girl or a fruity guy!!!! Remarkable Retrospective.......2006-06-17

Indeed very remarkable! All the songs here are hits, no dull track every track is on the attack. I'm not much of a Geddy Lee fan apart from being a great musician his voice is annoying, his talent and skills saved the band. For this best of compilation I'm not complaining, moreover the songs here give me memories of my high school days and owning this cd transport me back in long lost lovable times. Only missing is "enemy within" I would have given this a 5 stars had they included that track.

Rush were arguably the best band from Canada and this is one fine compilation containing hits like TOM SAWYER,MISSION,RED SECTOR A and NEW WORLD MAN.Very highly recommended.FIVE STARS.

10 Original Decca Hits.......2003-09-20

A budget priced set with some hard to find sides. All of the music here sounds great except for the Chuck Berry song "Thirty days" and "Boogie Woogie Baby". These 2 songs are noticably taken from the original 78 rpm discs complete with surface noise. Aside from that it is still a good sampler from the Texas Troubadour.

Excellent Compilation.......2000-05-18

If you are looking for a quality introduction to intelligent drum & bass, or just drum & bass in general, then this is a very good place to start. It is clearly the best single volume out of the whole "Points in Time" collection, which is a series of albums featuring classic, largely out of print songs from LTJ Bukem's Good Looking and Looking Good labels. Every CD is worth buying, but this one is a killer. It start's off with Seba & Lotek's brain-numbing opus "Sonic Winds," a track with a beautiful 3 and a half minute intro. Right after this track comes what is in my opinion the best Bukem track, his 1992 anthem "Atlantis." In addition to this, this disc has monster cuts like The Bell and Piano tunes, as well as some absolutely lavish stuff form PFM and Intense. A must have.

If you liked Logical Progression...This is actually just Vol 2 of a 3 volume set...theres 1, 2, and 3, with 4, 5, and 6 about to come out soon. as always, quality drum and bass, great to listen to...these are alot of tracks that either have only been available on vinyl, in compilation mixes., or unreleased. Smooth strings, sharp breakbeats, make these tracks an aureal landscape for your mind. Jazzy, futuristic, and electronic...these guys...and i'll just have to say it again, are pushing musical boundaries..this is it folks - this is where music has progressed to.

Like the curate's egg - good in parts.......2001-03-18

The pianist Walter Gieseking is still very much a presence in CD listings and catalogues almost fifty years after his death. Several of his Debussy recordings remain at the top of the list of recommended versions and are still being regularly reissued.

Much of the material in this CD has had very limited circulation, and several items are published for the first time. There is some sprightly playing in the Bach Partita, but what is here is incomplete and was recorded in 1940 and 1934. Gieseking's way of making everything seem simple and clear has rarely endeared his Beethoven playing to me. It's appropriate for the Sonata No 20 perhaps, but this 15 minute performance of the Sonata No 30 is not a success. The Brahms and Chopin items are similarly run through at top speed, but here some of the magic comes across. Works by Faure and Scriabin occupy the last five tracks. Hitherto unpublished, they are amongst the best recordings here. Some of the source material in the early tracks betrays its slightly damaged 78 origin.

So this is like the curate's egg - good in parts. It forms the first of a three volume "retrospective", its duration is 78 minutes, and it includes authoritative notes by Allan Evans.
