The Best Compilation of the Man on 2 Discs! Great Sound Quality Too!.......2006-04-21
The title very aptly describes this great classical guitar album showcasing some of the best ever works of John Williams on 2 discs. The track selections are great as they span the centuries from the Baroque greats of Bach and Vivaldi to the modern day composers such as Stanley Myers and York. John even flirts with Blues and Jazz-style pieces and they actually sound very good. In addition, they did a much better mastering job on this version than on the single disc, "Classic John Williams" album that was released a few years earlier and so the sound quality is much better. John Williams' playing is without peer and his technique is superior to the vast majority of the exponents of classical guitar that are out there. I've heard recordings of many others who have tried to play "Cavatina" for example and they have never come close to the natural and flowing version that John plays. If you are a fan of this type of music or of John Williams' work, this is the best compilation that you can get that's out there. Highly recommended!
Relaxing and Enticing to the Ear.......2006-01-26
The first song on this set is why I bought the whole album. It blows you away listening to the precise picking and the gorgeous way it is done. Not robotic like some freaks out there. This is true beautiful music. Runs together like a long summer drive in the country. It is just a perfect album to listen to at home or on the go.
A little something for everybody.......2005-06-15
First, this is gorgeous guitar playing by someone who knows what he's doing. John Williams (not to be confused by the film score composer of the same name) is a superb classical guitarist. Many of these pieces are *classical* in nature, while a few are more *popular*. Many are solo, the rest in small chamber groups. Some will get your toes tapping, some will start you daydreaming, and some will make you cry with their beauty. All of it is magnificent.

Customer Reviews:
Elvis fresh from the Army with something to prove.......2007-06-20
Elvis was fresh out of the Army when he starred in "G.I. Blues". You can tell it isn't the 1950s Elvis anymore, but a more polished vocalist who has more mature sense of himself. The soundtrack is loaded with awesome vocals, starting with the ballads "Tonight Is So Right For Love", "Pocketful of Rainbows", "Doin' The Best I Can" and "Wooden Heart".
From there, you have the more up-tempo foot tappers in "G.I. Blues", "Frankfort Special", "Shoppin' Around" and "Didja Ever". Throw in a the little ditty of "Big Boots" -- a future theme of corny songs stuck in Elvis movies during the 1960s -- and the remake of "Blue Suede Shoes" -- not as rocky as the 1956 version -- and you have a very solid soundtrack from top to bottom.
Like I said, not the Elvis of the 1950s, where he was edgy and untouchable in the Rock world. This was now the new Dean Martin version of Elvis, which we would see throughout most of his 1960s movies and basically in most of his non-movie singing, too. A strong ballad singer with a few fast-paced songs, but nothing like the rebel image of the 1950s. He was a new man with a new image.
There's something about a man in uniform...especially ELVIS!.......2006-10-05
I play the CD daily....LOUD....VERY LOUD!!
Without a doubt, this is my favorite Elvis movie/CD for many reasons. Being the 1st movie made after his military stint, Elvis is very unpretentious and actually looks like he's having FUN. (We all know how much he disliked his own movies, which makes this one even extra special). When I play the CD...I can picture the scenes from the movie.
The "Special Edition" CD was also a bonus with tid-bits about the making of the movie and great pictures. Have even been thinking about getting another one because I'm wearing the original out!!
His best soundtrack from the 1960's.......2006-09-09
This was one of Elvis' biggest hit albums, staying at number 1 on the US album chart for 8 weeks. It did this despite not producing a big hit single in the US (although "Wooden Heart" was a huge hit internationally, it never charted in the US). In my opinion, it is his best 1960's movie soundtrack (though not quite as good as some of his groundbreaking 1950's soundtracks). "Shopping Around" is an underapreciated rocker and I also really liked "Pocket Full of Rainbows" and "GI Blues". It is a shame that this CD has to be imported. A superior collection of early 60's pop and rock!
Great "stage show" soundtrack.......2005-05-05
"GI Blues" has stayed in my CD changer for months, as my two year-old boy never tires of dancing to the lead track. And I never tire of the album as a whole. Elvis' voice is great, and you can tell from the outtakes that he really put his best effort into singing each song as he strove to re-establish himself post-Army.
For me (a big Elvis fan, but not someone who likes every song he made), there's not a dud on this album. Most of the songs were unknown to me before I bought this disc, as none get airplay on oldies stations or elsewhere. Great songs that I had never heard before include "Pocketful of Rainbows," a lovely, upbeat song with great vocals, recently featured in the film "The Five People You Meet in Heaven."
Unlike many cds with bonus tracks, most of the outtakes are also good. Some have completely different tempos than the originally published versions. For example, "Big Boots" is a sleepy lullaby on the soundtrack, but the fast bonus version is a lively little finger-snapper.
The overall tone of this cd is that of a "rocking" Broadway musical from the Rogers & Hammerstein era (I'm not an expert on Broadway, but that's what it makes me think of): Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl, and the corresponding combination of fast and slow songs that follow that script.
If that doesn't sound interesting, the title track and "Blue Suede Shoes" are basic must-haves for anyone who loves rockin' Elvis.
Summary: I love this album (as does my wife and little boy).
I'm doing the best I can, but it's not good enough.......2004-08-04
G.I. Blues was Elvis' first movie after he got out of the Army. The soundtrack is not as good as the soundtracks from his 1950s movies, but it's better than most of his later soundtracks. There are some good songs here, and there are also some silly novelties. But even on the goofier songs here, Elvis does a good job of singing them. The best know song here is "Wooden Heart", which was a #1 Hit in almost every country except America. It would have been a hit in America, too, except it wasn't released as a single here. This CD version includes several alternate takes, some of which are better than the "official" versions. Recommended to fans of the King.

Customer Reviews:
We'll Always Love Big Poppa {3.5 Stars}.......2006-12-09
But will we always love this album? Actually, this isn't really an album, it's more like a glorified maxi single. I say that because there are only three songs -- two of which have instrumentals included (I'll Be Missing You & We'll Always Love Big Poppa). This may have been a 4 star effort when it dropped back in '97, but after having the lead single run into the ground, I simply can't tolerate it anymore. "We'll Always Love Big Poppa" , produced by Grease (Ruff Ryders), is a great reflective track by The Lox. If I remember correctly, there was even a video for it. In my mind, this is the best track on the album because it seems more real and from the heart (especially Sheek's verse). I think the first track was more for Puff to put on a show with -- as if to say "Yeah, I'll use this moment to shine." "Cry On" is nice cut from 112, but nothing memorable. We all know they can sing, and it's good to hear them sing about something other than women, but it just didn't grab me. Others may like it though. When it's all said and done, I think this is a pretty good tribute album with some well thought out tracks on it. I recommend checking it out.
When Puffy was Great.......2004-04-08
This was an album by Puff when he was good not P.Diddy he has
had 1-2 Tight songs since he switched his name his latest one
with Mario Winans and Enya that samples Ready or Not by Fugees
This is the type of rapping he is good at great tribute album.
a ver y powerful song.......2004-04-05
This songs speaks out to those of us who have lost a loved one and can't seem to find the right words to express how we feel.
I love this song and i will always think of my relative every time i hear it and it always brings back fond memories of when he was alive.
Great tribute.......2003-11-23
I have to admit I know the name Notorious B.I.G, but have never heard any of his stuff. This song could be a tribute to anyone who's died, as the lyrics aren't particularly aimed at this rapper guy. Faith Evan's lyrics and voice are really terrific and I just feel so sad listening to the song. If you're in one of those moods, where you're missing someone, all you need to do is put on this song - and it makes you worse! No, I'm just kidding. I listen to the song all the time, and you could listen to it, and not realise its a tribute to a dead rapper. You can listen, and make the lyrics relate to anyone who's close. A great song, with loads of potential, but unfortunately, its not played much anymore. Plus, its not exactly available in the shops, as Notorious B.I.G died in 1997, so you'll find it hard to find.
Perfect tribute song.......2002-11-15
I cryed when i heard the entire song, so sad to see how much Biggie Smalls is missed. I can't see another tribute so good and well performed that this one, a great collectors items as well.

Got to like it.......2007-02-01
When I heard samples from this CD, I really wanted to get it. However, when I did and listened the full versions I did not seem to like them that much. There are several pices that I totally do not care for, a few I really like (especially, Bach's pieces), and some I got used to. Overall, I like the CD, but not as much as I though I would.
A gleaming vision of brass sound.......2005-10-18
The Canadian Brass have been a lively and fun force in music for decades, since being brought together in Toronto 'by a gleaming vision of brass sound'. They are now world famous, having delighted and dazzled people in concerts all over the globe. One of the problems for a group such as this is the lack of repertoire readily available, so the group has become expert at arranging pieces for other instruments for their ensemble. They have also commissioned a good number of pieces of their performance.
One such commission is found on this recording, entitled 'The Well-Tampered Bach', a take-off on the Bach work 'The Well-Tempered Clavier'. This is a setting of various pieces by J.S. Bach for brass quintet and drums, worked by Luther Henderson for the ensemble's 1985 appearance in Toronto. Henderson is a frequent arranger and composer for the Canadian Brass, having also put together the 'Tuba Tiger Rag', reminiscent of the World War I era, and jazz pieces like 'Beale Street Blues'.
More traditional composers are represented in arrangement for brass, such as a more standard arrangement for Bach's Fugue in G minor, Mozart's Turkish Rondon, and pieces from Gabrieli, Vivaldi, Strauss, Rossini, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Pachelbel.
The disc has a wonderful blend of pieces classical and modern, 'proper' composition and traditional/folk inspiration, and a very lively and powerful presentation of all the music.
wow.......2001-07-20
This CD is amazing. It's a shame more people don't know about this incredible group. I'm a brass player and I just learned of these guys a few months ago. If you like classical music or brass music, this is a must own!
Essential CD.......2000-12-12
If you like the sound of brass and if your tastes run the gamut from Gabrieli to Handy, with stops hither and yon, this CD is essential to your collection. In it, the Canadian Brass demonstrate their amazing ability to play the early Baroque masters right along side the early jazz masters -- and make it seem perfectly natural! In the process, a bit of Rimsky-Korsakov, Mozart and Lord knows what gets thrown in for good measure. Plus, they play a rousing rendition of Bach's "Little Fugue in G Minor." If the music on this CD doesn't get you going, you need to immediately go to the ER at the nearest hospital!
The Best "Best of" the Canadian Brass.......1999-10-26
If you buy one Canadian Brass CD, buy this one. It contains the widest variety of musical eras and styles. Our favorite CB song, Beale Street Blues is hard to find, but on this CD. There are serious, classical selections and fun songs such as the "Tuba Tiger Rag" and "Flight of the Tuba Bee". This is Brass Quintet music at its best!

Customer Reviews:
A very nice SACD.......2004-06-09
This is a very enjoyable album. The sound quality is absolutely amazing! The first time I heard the clarinet solo on track #2, my jaw dropped at the amazing sound quality.
The soloists on the album include John Pizzareli, and the Manhattan Transfer. They are great musicians that bring a bit of variety to this album.
There is only one bad thing that I could say about this album is pretty minor. The hybrid SACD is supposed to be able to play on all CD players. I have had problems playing this on regular CD players.

Amazon.com essential recording
The King of Brooklyn, Biggie Smalls, busted through with an instant hip-hop classic on his first album, Ready to Die, but he outdid even his standard on Life After Death, an audible, posthumous autobiography about the life of the former dope dealer. The 2 CD set revels in death, especially on "Niggaz Bleed," "Somebody's Gotta Die," and "You're Nobody ('Til Somebody Kills You)," but it's painfully clear that this chestnut-cheeked, fun-loving father of two wanted to see his kids grow up on "Sky Is the Limit" and "Miss U," both of which point to the future. The album also serves as a testament to Biggie's flexibility: he adopts Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's rapid rhyme flow and Midwestern beats when they guest on "Notorious Thugs," he positively bounces on both "Mo Money Mo Problems" and "Going Back to Cali" (guesting Eazy Mo Bee), and even kicks it Wu-Tang style when RZA shows up for "Long Kiss Goodnight." --Asondra R. More Good Stuff from a Big Man.......2007-07-20
With 2 discs, Life After Death gives the listener a lot of material by Biggie. Some reviewers criticize this as having some weaker stuff and annoying guest appearances, but I think that's just a function of having a bigger album. Some stuff inevitably will not be as good as the rest. And I think the guest appearances are fine. Lil Kim spews off a foul mouth on one track, but that's what she does in her own stuff. Anyway, there's lots of great raps on her. The album's a bit slicker and more produced, lacking some of the edge of Ready to Die, but I think things as a whole work very well. While maybe not quite as awesome, on a song by song basis, as Ready to Die, this album definitely has enough quality material for the 5 stars. The best raps:
Hypnotize
Kick in the Door
I Love the Dough
Mo Money Mo Problems
Another
Going Back to Cali
The World is Filled
Posthumous greatness .......2007-07-14
This album is Biggie at his best before his music got corrupted by a sniveling weasel named Sean P Giddy Combs. It has guest appearances like 112, Too Short, Jay-z, R. Kelly, The Lox etc but Biggie shines regardless of guest appearances. The album kicks of with vivid storytelling by Biggie on Somebody's Gotta Die but that's not the only track where Biggie tells a great story. N***** Bleed is another cinematic track and Story To Tell is Biggie telling a story of some chick he was messing with whose husband ends up coming home while he's still there. Miss U is a touching tale with some good vocals by 112 on the chorus. Big keeps it true to the MC side of him with tracks like Kick In The Door(Nas Diss), the sinister sounding What's Beef, the first single Hypnotize, My Downfall(feat DMC), Long Kiss Goodnight(obvious 2pac diss but the track could do without Puffy's bipolar ranting. We all know Diddy is a cupcake), Last Day(feat the Lox). I Love The Dough is another highlight which features Jay-z and Angela Winbush as both Jigga and Biggie drop some hot verses on the track. Bone Thugs N Harmony join in on the festivities on Notorious Thugs as everybody delivers some fast-paced verses on the track. Going Back To Cali is Big's ode California and Biggie teaches the rules to the game on Ten Crack Commandments. The album does have its flaws like Playa Hater which is awful and anybody who can tell you that track is tight is borderline insane. Last Day is suspect only because of lackluster verses by The Lox(Biggie killed it!). I never felt The World Is Filled(feat Too Short and Fluff Diddy) and thats another song, with guest appearances where Biggie had the only notable verse(case in point for Mo Money Mo Problems). After that this album is smooth sailing. Biggie has his songs for the ladies like Nasty Boy and F*** You Tonight(feat R. Kelly) which he makes work for him. Lil Kim joins in on the battle of the sexes record Another. 112 makes another appearance on the magnificent Sky's The Limit where Biggie recalls his past. The second disc ends with the gritty You're Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You) as Biggie brings it to you raw and uncut. Bottom Line: The Notorious Big's Life After Death is easily the best rap album of 1997 and is a necessary requirement for any rap fan's collection. Biggie excelled on every track(even when the guest spots didnt) and the production was the best that Bad Boy could get. Standout tracks on Disc 1: SOMEBODY'S GOTTA DIE, HYPNOTIZE, KICK IN THE DOOR, F*** YOU TONIGHT, I LOVE THE DOUGH, WHAT'S BEEF, N***** BLEED and I GOT A STORY TO TELL. Standout Tracks on Disc Two: NOTORIOUS THUGS, MISS U, ANOTHER, GOING BACK TO CALI, TEN CRACK COMMANDMENTS, NASTY BOY, SKY'S THE LIMIT, MY D0WNFALL, LONG KISS GOODNIGHT and YOU'RE NOBODY(Til Somebody Kills You). RIP to Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious Big. Gone But Never Forgotten. There you have it. The most earnest review you'll ever read without the silly arguments about who is the better MC out of Pac and Big. You guys who are still carrying on with this asinine dispute need to agree to disagree and GROW UP!!! You're fools are damn near 40 still carrying on like high school kids. SHAME ON YOU ALL!
Biggy at His Prime.......2007-07-11
The Notorious B.I.G. was a lyrical genius and he showed it on Life After Death. This is the greatest rap double album ever. Biggy mastered his flow and showed his versitility on this album. He told stories, gave us party records, got serious, clowned around, rapped over west coast beats, rhymed fast, and gave us hard core street records. This is the definition of a complete album. Ready to Die was a classic and Biggy took it to another level on this album.
He left the world with his best work before he passed. Biggy had a great ability to make his lyrics very visual. Stories like "Somebody Gots to Die", "Niggas Bleed" and "I Got A Story to Tell" are so good that you can visualize his every word. Biggy had the East Coast on lock and no one in the game could touch him in wordplay. I can not even sit here and start to name the best songs because there were too many.
Biggy dropped two classic albums and was killed while he was still on top. He never lost his spot. Life After Death raised the bar for the game. I would have loved to see B.I.G. grow as an artist and make new music after this record. Unfortunately, his time was cut short, but he left us with a gem that shows his amazing talent....
Biggie's best work!.......2007-07-05
The first album was pretty tight, but this title cd album is Biggie's best work. And even if he was still alive, i'm not so sure that he could really top this one. It's a collector's item.
The greatest album ever released by Biggie & BadBoy Records........2006-12-01
Life After shows Biggie's growth as an artist and man. The storytelling is very cinematic and compelling. This is really a movie on wax for real. The paranoia is also raised on here and for good reason since Biggie spent 1996 fending off Pac's accusations and insults. In short, Biggie was a naturally gifted, personable, smart dude that's greatly missed.

I love to listen to great rap music and this mans sibngle is a perfect example. A sad story and life that biggie lived and speaks about in this track which brought tears to my eyes when I heard it. So strang that he is gone, the music world lost a great talent.
Great Song.......1998-06-03
