5 out of 5 stars Pulling it Together Down Under.......2007-05-17

1. This is the best Silverchair ever still.
2. This is awesome.
3. This is heavier than "Frogstomp"
4. This is more rude than "Neon Ballroom"
5. This is less melodic than "Diarama" and "New Modern"
6. This is not inconsistent "Creed" or "Collective Soul"
7. This is edgy and angry and emotional.
8. This is singing entire breaths out well.
9. This is singing well and playing instruments well.
10. This is explosive guitar riffs awesome.
11. This is a must have for fans of hard rock in any way.

And...
12. (Yay For Aussie Rok).
13. Best of the type of music it is for an Australian-band's CD.
14. This is Silverchair (not ACDC, not Collective Soul, not....etc.)
15. "Freak" is ridiculous in its trashing/pulsating music.
16. "Cemetry"/"Door" are insane in their vocal-breathing long-sung words.
17. They brought the positives of record 1 together.
18. They had proper/better mixing, recording, editing, and just sound(>1).
19. >1
20. This is CD 2, though it is > CDs 3 and 4. I won't judge CD 5 yet.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely a stellar album........2007-04-11

This album shows Silverchair growing signifigantly, both musically and creatively. It's angry, pure, loud, but most of all, fun. The dinky windows 95 macromedia enhancement is really funny, too :D I enjoyed it.

4 out of 5 stars Seether=Wannabe Silverchair.......2006-07-13

I get the impression that the guys in Seether listened to this cd a decade ago and said to themseves, "my god, their OUR AGE! WE could do that!" And by the time Seether was a major act Silverchair had already come of age and run their course. In other words, Slverchair is good.

5 out of 5 stars ok..........2006-01-17

first off, silverchair obviously had a major influence via the works of kurt dave and krist. but other than that, hey person knocking nirvana, if you want to be listened to you should learn how to spell. other than that this is a superb album, every track where it should and sounding like it should. for a group of young fellas, they really knew how to make a record. best of record is learn to hate and the obvious songs like freak and abuse me, i mean who else but daniel johns could make "throw the saiyans overboard" mean so much more.

4 out of 5 stars I dig it........2005-11-19

With only hearing Anthem For The Year 2000 (Though not on this disc), I decided to go out on a limb and buy this cd. I wasn't disappointed at all. Being 17 when they Put out this cd, I was really amazed for the quality of it! I have heard countless teenagers say "Man, were 17... how come we dont sound that good?" First time listening to Nobody Came (Track 12) I was listening to the introduction waiting for Brian Johnson kick in with the lyrics to Hells Bells because the guitar line sounds like its been taken from Angus Young's idea book. But on the bright side, Tracks 1 (Slave) and 5 (No Association) make up for this.

"Welcome to the Freak Show"
by DcTalk
Reviewed by Logan Clements

This CD is called "Welcome to the Freak Show." The band playing it is DcTalk. They are pretty well known. There are no special features on this CD.
This CD was very good. The date it was released on was August 26, 1997. The current value is $16.98. The rating is 4.5 out of ten as of Monday 4/4/05. The chart rating as of Monday 4/4/05 is #47,539 in music. The label is a forefront/ emd.
This CD shows that evolution is not true. When I first listened to this CD, I thought it was cool because it was fast music and I like fast music. After listening thoroughly it somehow calms me down and kind of humbles me to what I have for a while.
There are 14 good tracks on this CD. The names of them are help, so help me go, love is a verb, and like it love it need it. Some others are colored people, Jesus is still all right, and what if I stumble?. A few others are In the light, mind's eye, It's the end of the world as we know it, Day by Day, walls, time is..., and Jesus Freak. My favorite tracks are Jesus Freak, Colored people, and love is a verb. I like these because they are fast and somehow calm me down.
There are two bad tracks on this CD. One is Alas my love. Another is Hardway. These songs are slow and kind of weird after all the fast ones.
There are some unusual parts, like when they introduce the band and have them play solos. There are no hidden tracks on this CD.
My rating is 4.5 out of 5. The people that would like this CD are christens who like rock music. The type of music is christen rock. The fans will be happy because it's the best of DcTalk.
That's what I think about this CD, "Welcome to the Freak Show'.

5 out of 5 stars dc Talk LIVE.......2005-03-03

This album is awesome. Welcome to the Freak Show combines a lot of dc Talk's greatest hits in a live recording. My favorite song on this album is "What if I Stumble." Most live albums crank up the volume on the crowd noises and it gets annoying after the first three songs. In this album the crowd noise adds to it. You actually get the full experience. If you enjoy this album I would check out Smalltown poets and Audio Adrenaline.

5 out of 5 stars Fittingly great as they're amazing live.......2005-03-02

I've seen many concerts from many different acts in various genres but none can hold a candle to dc Talk. When you take that stage performance and great songs you come up with this cd and the live video that is also sold. The stage presence comes across on the cd the same way a smile comes across on a telephone. You can't see the smile, but you can hear it in the voice. One of my favorite songs on this cd is a 'new' version of The Hardway. It's different than you've heard on an earlier studio album and I think much better. With live albums one of the fears is usually the sound quality and the crowd noise. This particular cd has great sound quality and only has crowd noise when applicable. If you're a fan of dc Talk buy this cd and the video of them live in concert - I guarantee you'll thoroughly enjoy them both.

5 out of 5 stars Great album.......2005-01-31

Welcome to the Freak Show is an awesome album. It has a variety of styles including rap, rock, and contemporary. It includes a great remake of The Beatles 'Help'. It is a must have for any DC Talk fan. I believe that even any non fan would enjoy this album. It is really sensational.

3 out of 5 stars Something Kevin said put me on hold........2004-10-04

First and foremost, I used to be totally obsessed (and yes, I say obsess with its negative connotation) with DC talks melodies. I used to listen to all the tracks on Jesus Freak not once, but 2 to 3 times a day. Not-too-surprizingly, my infatuation with DC Talk promopted me to purchase this album. I must say, it gave me a revelation. A dark one. A very, very dark one. When I heard Kevin proclaim "you only have 70 years of it anyway," referring to the span of every individual's earthly existence, I was literally quite shocked. Why, you ask? I think it would take less than common sense to agree to the fact that life should be lived to the fullest and that every second should considered a blessing. Kevin's words, I reiterate, "you only have 70 years of it anyway," blatantly implies that life is obviously ephemeral. The implication that bothers me is that these words don't sound like they came from a guy who's enjoying what he is doing in life very much. They are almost akin to saying "I'm doing it (in Kevin's case, attempting to please The Lord) because I have nothing better to do", if you will, which, I feel, is even worse than saying "do it ("serve The Almighty," or just plain "believe in Him")because you simply should". This is definitely not the attitude I wish to be preoccupied with in my life. Don't get me wrong, mind you, I still appreciate how DC Talk has profoundly influenced my life in the past, but doing life with Kevin's mindet? I must soberly decline.

5 out of 5 stars TWO UNHEARD GEMS ON ONE DISC!.......2005-11-30

I could go into some long-winded statements about what an iconoclastic band THE FREEZE are but if anyone doesn't know that by now then stop reading and immediately play any track off RABID REACTION. Once your finished then you're ready for these two classics. They reach far beyond and far within ones's own psyche. The lyrics paint pictures of paranoid, half-shot, human meltdowns. The music carries the lyrics to even further heights with Bill Close's masterful buzzsaw riffing. BUY THIS NOW and let Clif Hanger hold your hand while you explore the places inside youself you've always been afraid of!! The Freeze is Music as Therapy; tragedy as art; death as rejuvenation. Easily the best Punk Rock band to have ever come out of the Boston scene!

5 out of 5 stars Unravelling The End.......2004-11-23

Things have got to be pretty hard on Clif Hangers psyche. His world's burning up and though his skin and mind have charred he's still got that twitch of a fight left in him. What a pair him and Mr. Melody-Maker, Bill Close made in their heyday. The Freeze ARE Boston Punk rock-end of story. The others in their 80's scene either metaled themselves out in a laughable fashion or became an advertising logo for a beer company. No one lasted very long, at least no band with substance, and substance is what makes The Freeze. Driven to dangerous acts, drawn to dying shapes and movements, Clif Hanger's going to do bid things in the literary world if he wants to. My advice to Hanger is to WRITE THOSE THOUGHTS DOWN for publication!!! YOU'RE THAT GOOD!!!and BILL CLOSE! Get into a band that matters and write some more tunes that make me want to walk across hot coals to hear them better!! YOU KNOW YOU CAN- don't give up now!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best work we never really got to hear....until now!.......2004-07-22

Pioneers and one of the founding fathers of the original Boston hardcore/punk movement of the early 80's, The Freeze were praised and decorated along with fellow hardcore/punk bands such as Gang Green, Jerrys Kids, The FU's and many more. We got classic albums entitled "Land of the Lost", "Rabid Reaction" and the ultimate compilation of Boston hardcore/punk bands called "This is Boston, Not LA". After their excellent "Misery Loves Company" disc was released in '91, The Freeze signed a deal to record for a German label named Lost and Found Records in 1992. Unfortunately for us, the fans, their two best releases, "Crawling Blind" and "Freakshow" would be hard to find in the US and most times could only be obtained as imports, costing as high as $45 for each!! That is, until now. Dr. Strange Records and The Freeze have given all of us cause for celebration as they have combined both albums on one CD! Like last years combined disc of "Land of the Lost" and "Rabid Reaction", the disc of "Freakshow" and "Crawling Blind" blasts through 31 total songs (18 from "Freakshow" and 13 from "Crawling Blind") and, trust me, you will find no fillers here. Band leader and lead singer Clif Hanger sneers and snarls his way through classic tracks such as Freak Show, Paralyzed, Creeping Psychosis and Suspended Heaven (all from "Freakshow") to Terminal, Chemical Fed Compulsion, Crawling Blind and False Messiah (all from "Crawling Blind"). Hangers lyrics will come across as almost autobiographical because, basically speaking, they are. Complimenting Hanger on each album is long time collaborator and guitarist Bill Close. Close's nack for finding the riffs with a hook and melody is remarkable, especially for a power driven punk band. It should also be noted that drumming on "Crawling Blind" is Walter Gustafson, the drummer for Gang Green, who has also played with various other Boston based bands. The Freeze have given us plenty of great music over the years but as far as I am concerned, it doesn't get any better than this. Do yourself a favor and click on the "add to shopping cart" icon. This is one release by The Freeze that can't be missed...will not disappoint...and is a MUST HAVE!!
