The Chicago blues legend's recent divorce is weighing on his mind, if "Somebody's Been Sleeping in My Bed" and "Now You're Gone" are to be believed. That's bad for Buddy Guy, but good for his fans, who, on these contemplative, regretful numbers, get treated to some of Guy's most sweetly improvisational and melodic guitar since his '60s hallmark A Man and the Blues. There's slash 'n' burn, too, as he gunfights with Carlos Santana on "I Put a Spell on You" and squeezes pure heart from his strings teaming with John Mayer on "I've Got Dreams to Remember." Guy also plays prettily and trades vocals with Tracy Chapman on a rote but right "Ain't No Sunshine," although Robert Randolph and Keith Richards are slight on "Lay Lady Lay" and "The Price You Gotta Pay," respectively. Guy hasn't cut this many classics in a while, but he channels enough raw, emotional sensitivity to make the oldies sound like they're pumping fresh blood. --Ted Drozdowski

3 out of 5 stars Very Uneven-Not Enough Blues.......2007-06-20

I love the Blues and Buddy Guy, but not every song on here is a gem or even the blues.

My favorite song on here is the Tracy Chapman "Ain't No Sunshine" song, but it isn't exactly the blues.

The blues numbers I like are "Cheaper to Keep Her" and "Cut You Loose", but even those are not his best.

4 out of 5 stars Damn Right, He's Still the Best.......2007-06-19

The first six tracks off of Buddy Guy's "Bring 'Em In" explode out of your speakers like a rocket ship -- fitting for a guitarist who continues to soar at an age when most strummers tend to lower their volume.

If "Sweet Tea," Buddy's much-heralded previous album, was the raw, tortured sound of an ancient bluesman wrestling with the devil and evil women, his latest release finds him in sunnier spirits -- sort of.

He's still ruing lost loves, of course, both on the opening track, "Now You're Gone," and later on with the anxious "Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed." But then he's off like a hound dog, attacking Wilson Pickett's "Ninety Nine and One Half" and "What Kind of Woman Is This" with incredible fire. Both songs are filled with grooves from a bygone era and worth multiple listens.

Razor-sharp solos cut through most of the songs, including the rollicking "On A Saturday Night" and the Carlos Santana joint wah-wah fest that is "I Put A Spell On You."

The second half of the album regretfully meanders. A duet with Tracy Chapman on "Ain't No Sunshine" inexplicably fails to catch fire, and Buddy clearly stumbles on a mawkish cover of "Lay Lady Lay" and "I've Got Dreams to Remember." Minor quibbles, though. Buddy's inviting us in for a jam session, and it would foolish to turn him down.

5 out of 5 stars Smoother Guy Tells Us To "Bring 'Em In".......2007-06-04

Buddy Guy is so good at guitar shredding that it takes us aback when we hear him playing smooth, mellow, and laidback, which is what he does on "Bring 'Em In."

Guy does some interesting covers, and has some high-powered guest stars on this record. He covers "I Put A Spell On You," "Lay Lady Lay(Guy covers Dylan?)" "Cheaper To Keep Her," and " Do Your Thing." Joining him ove various cuts are Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, and John Mayer.

Guy's playing is a lot more subdued on this record, but it's no less compelling or thrilling. Guy always delivers the goods, and "Bring 'Em In" is no exception. This is definitely worth checking out.

3 out of 5 stars Not the best Buddy Guy out there..........2007-05-25

This CD has a great band, great production and a star studded cast, that's all the things that probably make it sell, but make me not enjoy it. Buddy is great and his solos are great, but I like him best when I can close my eyes and I'm transported to a little smokey club somewhere and I'm just listening to that raw guitar, way out in front, just peelin' the paint off the walls. I guess this is an attempt to make some dough and sell some records to the pseudo blues fans, but I'd go for Stone Crazy, Blues Singer, and Sweet Tea, those all rock in their own rights.

5 out of 5 stars Bring 'Em In.......2007-05-14

didn't know much about Buddy Guy before I got this CD - it's full-tilt blues-rock and sweet melodies with great lyrics and vocals - Buddy Guy is truly amazing - Eric Clapton credits him with being the musician he emulated - can see why - catch him live too - at 71 he looks 20 YR younger and as absolutely phenomenal

Bring 'Em In is a really great album, there's nothing else to say. I love it so you should go and get it!

5 out of 5 stars Helll Yes!.......2006-01-26

Mando Diao-Unbeknownst to the boys in the band, the name means something a bit inappropriate in chinese. However, who cares when after you hear Bring 'Em In the only thing you'll be hearing for a while is their absolutely fantastic sound??

Gustaf Noren is the perfect punk without being annoying while Bjorn Dixgard's soul oozes out of his voice.

These boys are the new saviours of rock and roll!

5 out of 5 stars It is just wonderful.......2005-06-24

This album is really a testament to the fact that if you look hard enough, you will find great music out there. In this case, you have to set your sights for Sweden. I bought this album June of 2004 after hearing Sheepdog somewhere, but after a few listens, it went to the wayside because I got a few Beatles and Rolling Stones albums. Now after a year of listening to great music, I decided I needed to hear something different and as I was browsing through my Media Player, I saw this CD. I started to play it and realized just why I bought it in the first place. In a way I feel lucky that I got to discover it, then after quite some time, I got to rediscover it. Those who are reading this review really should buy Bring Em In. I can see a few comparisons to the early Rolling Stones as well as Beatles in Mando Diao. In a room with the two aforementioned bands, Mando should be able to hold their heads high. I know before this month ends, I should own Hurricane Bar.

4 out of 5 stars Shake Your Moneymaker meets Stella Artois.......2004-11-16

Mando Diao, on their latest post-punk garage rock creation, drum up several great songs worth of slightly distorted guitars and crashy cymbals that make you feel like you've just downed several fizzy lagers at the local pub, where strangely, a lot of Swedes have taken residence. In fact, perhaps they've taken over the barstools, as they've made much more forward momentum with singles like the downbeat "Mr Moon" and the radio-ready "She's So." But no, that is not a completely apt description. These guys don't completely own the joint -- the sound Mando Diao are approaching is already better accomplished by that other Swedish rock foursome, The Hives, and The Hives already released a new CD this year. This is a good ride though.

5 out of 5 stars WOW, what an amazing CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-11-15

I've heard a lot of people compare Mando Diao to the Hives, but the only comparrison I really see is they're both Swedish and rock bands. I'm not much of a Hives fan, I never really liked any of their singles, but Mando Diao is awesome!!! I heard their single Sheepdog so I decided to buy the CD and give it a shot and it was amazing!! Their songs are so catchy and fresh and new and they all sound different and you can listen to it over and over again. I just can't quite tell you in words how good this CD is, you just need to buy it and listen for yourself and you'll soon be hooked.

If there was one problem that I had with this CD its that its a little too short. I can't wait for them to make a new one!!!!

Mike Scott was the lead singer, chief songwriter, and undisputed decision-maker for the Waterboys from the time the band came together in London in 1981 until it reconstituted with new personnel in Dublin in 1987, and finally fell apart in New York in 1991. Scott has a knack for thinking up pop melodies and evocative lyrics and singing them in a roughened, personal voice, but his musical skills are limited. He relied heavily on bandmates such as Anthony Thistlethwaite, Steve Wickham, and future World Party founder Karl Wallinger to flesh out his bare-bones songs with Celtic-folk and Celtic-rock textures. That's obvious from Bring 'Em All In, Scott's debut solo album, which is full of marvelous songs but which leaves them sounding like drab, undeveloped home demos--which is precisely what they are. Many of the album's songs were inspired by Scott's return to his homeland of Scotland. "Iona's Song" is a metaphoric description of crawling back "like a beggar at a feast," begging the ancient hills to "heal my black heart," while "Edinburgh Castle" is a more literal autobiography of visiting his old school and still feeling intimidated. Both are performed on acoustic guitar with background textures supplied by electric guitar washes, and both lack the authentic folk licks and expansive solos they seem to cry for.

Several other songs take the form of prayers as Scott offers acceptance to all of the world's creatures on the title track, begs for guidance for himself on "What Do You Want Me to Do?" and yearns to forgive himself on "Learning to Love Him." These numbers are built around quite attractive melodies, but the tunes are never expanded into the rich harmonies which were always a Waterboys trademark. One can only hope Scott will assemble a new, Waterboys-like band and re-record these songs, perhaps in a live setting, to realize their considerable potential. --Geoffrey Himes

5 out of 5 stars Terrific effort (Mike is great even w/o Waterboys).......2007-01-09

Mike Scott is truly a great musician. Even without his Waterboys he rocks. As usual, the songs are done in unmistakeably "Mike Scott"-vein - that makes any record by Mike (with or without Waterboys) seem a bit too homogeneous... but the strength of his naked persona should carry you thru it anyway. The title track is just terrific, "Building The City Of Light" rocks pretty hard; "She's So Beautiful" and "Wonderful Disguise" are great ballads. Go and buy it if you like this type of music.

5 out of 5 stars One of the great ones.......2006-05-24

I too was swept into being a Waterboys fan with This is the Sea and Fisherman's Blues. I would rate this right up there with those albums. Maybe not as consistently great musically as FBlues (there are two songs that go on too long in order to tell a story - City Full of Ghosts and Edinburgh Castle) but the songs that click amaze me.

Try Bring 'em All In" and "Building the City of Light." Wow. A very personal and spiritual album. Every time I see a copy in the dollar bin I buy it to give to someone!

We have Fishermans Blues, we have This is sea BUT "bring em' all in" is absolutely the BEST of them of all...Hopefully Waterboys can reach back to something near this in the future, it was definitely a downhill with Universall Hall!!

5 out of 5 stars Water world.......2004-07-18

I'm a Waterboy's fan. I like this album even more. It's like a slow moving waterboy's album; poetic, acoustic, lovely.
