Back in the '80s, Eddie was a Jersey rocker who could reliably fill the Stone Pony long after Bruce Springsteen had outgrown it. Following a bitter label dispute and a string of self-released recordings, Who the Hell is John Eddie? is his first major-label-distributed CD in over a decade. During the intervening years, his roots rock has drifted closer to country-rock, the best example of which is "Let Me Down Hard," though echoes of Springsteen can still be heard on a few songs, such as "Everything." These songs are fine, if a bit generic, but they're better than Eddie’s attempts at humor, which represent nearly half the album. "Low Life," for example, is closer to Jeff Foxworthy territory than the Randy Newman satire to which it aspires. And "Forty" is worse: an older guy’s lament that doubles as an insult to his even older friends. Clearly, Eddie’s taken some hard knocks--the album's title comes from the sort of drunken heckler he’s faced many times during his down years--but an overblown, self-pitying response like "Play Some Skynyrd" offers perhaps too clear an answer: He’s a competent club rocker who splits his time between mugging for his audience and mocking it. --Keith Moerer

4 out of 5 stars I liked this one........2007-06-02

I've listened to "If You're Here When I Get Back" a lot since I've downloaded it from itunes. Waaaaay back when I was a John Eddie fan, visiting dive bars at the Jersey Shore. (Some of the best times...) The lyrics & tunes gently breeze by. Bruce-esque, perhaps a bit, but John Eddie has his unique sound, and I enjoy it. It's really good -- give it a try!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST own gem.......2007-02-20

If you like great singer/songwriters this is a disc you will place at the top of your favorites. It's amazing this guy is not rich, retired and on easy street. His lyrics are witty and often deep, and his voice is emotional and connected to each tune. Do yourself a favor and buy this cd. You'll thank me...

3 out of 5 stars who the hell is John Eddie?.......2006-11-10

he's a pretty witty guy apparently... nicely done... i can't say every song here is a gem, but there are definitely some big winners! my favs are "Jesus is coming" and "40"...

5 out of 5 stars Amazing CD.......2006-06-16

I've never been a huge Springsteen fan. John Eddie is every bit as talented, if not more so, than Bruce. This is one of the best "road" cd's I've ever heard. It has a little something for everyone, country, rock, ballad....it's absolutely amazing. His lyrics are words you can relate to & sometimes hilarious. Buy it today!

5 out of 5 stars The nicest guy in the world.......2006-05-02

You're all right. He's a very talented artist.
But you know what else?

He's the nicest guy in the world.
Always lookin out for the little guy; everytime he had a Jersey show summer '05, he called my boyfriend to open for him, to help him get exposure; called him up on stage to play with him and unlike all the vicious image protecting rock stars out there, he let me take pictures of him anytime so I could practice concert photography technques. Amazing. At a Katmandu show in Trenton he called up alllll the kids who can with their parents for the show and had them sing along with him on stage. Just the nicest guy in the world. And a great artist.
And next time you see him live, request his cover of Maggie May if you can. SO much energy. Fabulous. A great guy!

and now for the shameless plug...speaking of exposure, if you like John Eddie, check out this page[..]
Influences include the Boss, Bon Jovi, Mellencamp, etc...

Thanks guys.
