Great tracks include: "Stay" and "Goodbye Cruel World"
A great oldies album to invest in!
Fantastic! A genuine classic.......2004-10-14
It's packed with hits (Goodbye cruel world, I don't care, My 16th apology, Hello (turn your radio on) and of course the massive No 1 Stay).
Everyone knows 'Stay' which was No1 in the Uk for 8 weeks, but it's important to realise that this is NOT indicative of the rest of the album. The rest is much more fast paced; excellent pop trax, but with a T-rex edge (never more evident than in Catwoman). All the trax have a wicked lyric, and the mix of Siobhans low and croaky vocal, mixed with Marcella's falsetto backing vocal works very well. (Marcella only leads on Stay).
This really is an great album. It's important to note that the US version is different to the UK's; different mixes are used - it's subtle but is JUST as good.
If you like this, look out for the 3rd cd (called #3) which is currently only available on Siobhan Fahey's website - it's without Marcella but rocks beyond belief.
You better hope and prey.......2004-10-09
These days nobody at age less than ~23 doesn't know about them, wha t a shame, Lyrics gets simetimes little darker but that is only good and the music is totally superb, if only there was more pop like this.
Albums opens with Goodbye cruel world which is despite its name excelent opening track, than the CD continues to the GRAND FINALE that Hello Hello is. Can't stop playing it twice when I listen to the album. I'm not even sure if it's their song its just such a great song.
Let them entertain you........2004-03-30

Far superior to skin-deep debut, band featuring Bananarama exile Siobhan Fahey delivers minimalistic dance-pop with hints of classic Bowie ("Goodbye Cruel World"), Ohio Players ("Are We In Love Yet") and Eurythmics ("Emotional Thing"; Dave Stewart, Fahey's husband, is present in spirit only). "Catwoman" was likely written for the "Batman II soundtrack. --Jeff BatemanCustomer Reviews:
Truly a masterpiece.......2004-11-20
The album opener, Goodbye Cruel World, was the first single, which flopped. I can't see why, since it's a listening pleasure. The somewhat depressing lyrics get lost in the campy, poppy production, which invigorates the song and the backing "ooohh la la la ahhh"'s are great.
I Don't Care is a great song. Starting with a great Marcella scream, the ones fans have always liked, the song never loses its power. I like this one because Marcella sings more here than on the majority of tracks on the album. The chorus is classical, Siobhan sings and Marcy replies. Utterly fabulous!
My 16th Apology isn't one of my favourites. It's sort of reggae-ish, and it has sort of a feel-good tune to it (although again the lyrics aren't exactly happy), but not one of the best. That said, I love the way they sing "with friends like me, who needs enemies?"
Are We In Love Yet and Emotional Thing are nice pop ditties, with dark melodies and somewhat crazy lyrics. Pleasant.
Stay is the center of the album. It doesn't match, unfortunately, the rest of the album, because it features Marcy on lead vocals. I wish she had done more leads, because she truly steals the song with her dramatic verses pleading for her lover to stay... that is, until Siobhan starts singing and adds an epic edge to the song. It all merges beautifully at the end, with Marcy screaming "stay" and the music setting the dramatic tone. A pop masterpiece.
Black sky is somthing of a change. After the great ballad, it's time to go berserk. It's probably the darkest track of the album, and it's great. Marcy & Siobhan sing together and are superb. The instrumental break at the middle is fantastic, and Marcy singing backwards (which actually looks as if she's singing opera) is great. Wonderful song.
The song is segued with The Trouble With Andre. Again, it is a dark song, with Siobhan's deep voice all over the top, with Marcy relegated to backing vocals at the chorus. But, still, it's great.
On Moonchild you can hear Siobhan's breath all over the song, which is kinda weird. A quite calm song about misfits, it has soothing verses, till Siobhan demonstrates her range on the epic chorus. The result is good. A sample of this track was used on Tricky's song Overcome in 60 seconds.
"I was floating around the atmosphere, I liked what I saw so I came down here" sing the girls on Catwoman. Very T-Rex influenced, this song is way too overproduced, but it's still listenable and great. Love the girls meow!
Let Me Entertain You is the only track I usually skip. The song bores me to death. The fact that Marcy is relegated to backing vocals and those caveman-like "whoas" really don't improve the quality of the song either...
The last track is also another masterpiece. The ballad, Hello (Turn Your Radio On), a song about the isolation people suffer nowadays, a plea for communication, is totally stunning. Siobhan really knows how to sing this one with a tortured voice, and the way Marcy accompanies her in the chorus is absolutely awesome.
Overall, the girls could never have done it better. It is a vast improvement over their debut album. The only complaint is the fact that Marcella isn't featured that much on the album, but for the rest, it is a stunning album

Cinematic!.......2003-02-06
little film with five videos which were created
by Sophie Muller.
The first one is the single "Goodbye cruel world"
which is influenced by "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?"
and which describes the argument between two successful
sisters who envy each other and who want to be better
than the other one. Siobhan and Marcella introduce this
video with a dialogue about their conflict. They sing
together about a mysterious Mr.A who will never see their
face again because he left them in the rain. Siobhan sits
in the back and looks angry because Marcy is loved by her audience and she has to be second here.
The second video section is the world hit "Stay" which is
also known for this excellent video full of darkness,
mystery, good and evil content and ghost skin feeling.
The story takes place outerspace on the moon where Marcy
sits sad beside the bed of her lover who is near dieing.
She begs him to stay and wants him to come to life again.
Suddenly the death- angel Siobhan comes in in a glitter
catsuit with a crown on her head. She wants to take Marcys
lover in her death kingdom and walks down the stairs to get
him. When she arrives in the other sphere she fights heavily
with Marcella and finally the lover awakes and lets the good
one Marcy win while Siobhan has to leave the arena and go
back to her own world. The video reminds a little bit of
"Return of the living death".
The third video is "I don't care", also a successful hit
and inscened with a first class black humour. Marcy sleeps
and has a nightmare of Siobhan who wants to replace her
in the band by another male band member. She awakes crying
and the drama starts. The following scenes describe again
an argument between these two ladies. In many different
scene- switchings they do their worst to get it all of their
chest and do this between other people, on stage, inbetween
a meal and cry it out in the world. A kind of paranoia lays
in this video. Finally Siobhan appears in Marcys bedroom to
finish the argument and she takes her out of her bed to
hold the friendship which was near the end because the cool
Queen Victoria (Siobhan) was too cold for the hot Lady Venus
(Marcella) who was not the good for Siobhan. While she does
it she speaks a poem of Edith Sitwell called "Hornpipe".
The fourth video is not that spectacular because it is a
cut of a live concert where different performances are
put together. But it is nice to see them sing along and how
they act on stage.
Finally the video "Hello" is not that typical argue- glitter-
video of them as seen before. Siobhan and Marcy sit in a
place in the "somewhere" which is styled Victorian- aged.
They sit behind a glass- wall in a box where they criticize
their life, the loneliness, isolation and apathy in society
and do their sad rebellion to the outer world to listen to
each other again. Siobhan wears white rag- hair- fashion and
looks like an old woman (but still beautiful) while Marcy
represents an older, eleganter version of herself playing
the guitar while Siobhan cleans the window. The video shows
the two as friends with pigs on their knees. It is coloured
black- white and is a nice end for the video collection
because it's the most emotional one which was also a
hit- single in 1992/93.
The two were "absolutely fabulous" (Marcy) and though they
did their own way well after their split it couldn't reach
the success of this time. Maybe they shouldn't have argued
too much like they did it in here but it underlines the style
of this band. It was a fresh wind in the early nineties
which was exciting, expressing, original and different. Great!
One of my favourite all female acts.......2000-06-24
If you are new to this band, then this is definitely a place to start. Otherwise, do check out "Sacred Heart", a slightly less serious album, but still with a number of great tracks. This female band should appeal to lovers of "adult-aimed" pop.
Shakespears Sister Will Be HORMONALLY YOURS Forever........2000-04-02
I can't for the life of me figure out why their success was so short-lived here in the States. Following the No.4 hit "Stay," they released a fabulous radio remix of their next single, "I Don't Care." The B-side was a beautiful acoustic version of "Stay," but the single failed to chart in the Top 40. I have heard that London Records didn't give HORMONALLY YOURS the promotional push it needed to find Stateside success, but the album was a critical and commercial triumph in the UK. "Stay" remained at Number One atop the charts for eight weeks, a feat matched only twice before. London's approach could best be called "misguided," for the best choice for a follow-up single to "Stay" would have been the unforgettable "Goodbye Cruel World," but it was unsuccessful in the UK, as well, reaching No.59 before being re-issued at No.32.
However, each song on this album has the potential to be a smash hit and Shakespears Sister demonstrates an astounding gift for versatility unmatched by another other band of its kind. "Goodbye Cruel World" is decadent and glamorous, while "Stay" is surreal and otherworldly. "My 16th Apology" and "I Don't Care" are rhythmic delights, each cool and inviting. Every song is as stylish and unique as Shakespears Sister, itself. "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)" is an achingly beautiful song that should be required listening for anyone who has suffered a loss, while "The Trouble With Andre," "Moonchild," and "Catwoman" are atmospheric standouts.
If you've lost faith in the state of pop music, what with this current nauseating teen-pop trend, "Let Me Entertain You" with a suggestion: get your hands on a copy of HORMONALLY YOURS. It will "Stay" with you forever.
STAY.......2000-04-02
It's a "Black Sky" Without HORMONALLY YOURS (VHS)........2000-03-26
My favourite Shakespears Sister song, "Goodbye Cruel World" is a high-gloss, high-camp scream. Nobody did it better than former Bananarama member Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit, and their love for Hollywood style and high-fashion hilarity shows in this video, which is "Sunset Boulevard" meets "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Siobhan is screamingly funny, while Marcy looks oh-so-cool vamping it up.
"Stay" is fondly remembered for its otherworldy imagery and uncoventional storytelling. Surreal, intoxicating, breathtaking...this video is the most riveting four minutes of footage you'll ever see. Siobhan is an evil figure of mythology (supposedly Hecate) who comes to take the life of Marcy's dying beau. Siobhan relishes the chance to drain the life from him, but Marcy won't part with her man, and, ultimately, love conquers all. Siobhan walks away in mock disgust, because, after all...she'll be back.
"I Don't Care" is inviting, invigorating, and totally unexpected. (In other words, it's oh-so Shakespears Sister). Marcy and Siobhan each dream the other is trying to eclipse her from the band, and the results are laugh-out-loud funny. The humour is wicked and twisted. In other words, it's oh-so Shakespears Sister.
"Catwoman" is a rare glimpse into the live stage antics of Siobhan Fahey. She's possessed on stage and the reaction is wild. Of course, later it was revealed that she struggled with a heroin addiction during the tour, but the effect is no less startling. This broad knows how to put on a show.
Last and best is "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)," the most achingly beautiful song of the '90s. Siobhan and Marcy are aging spinsters who toil on rocking chairs. Presumably, they are immortal. Siobhan is ghastly white, and Marcy is somewhat sinister. While Marcy is usually less aggressive than Siobhan, on stage and off, the role reversal is clearly evident here. Siobhan is a tortured soul who has suffered for her sins, while Marcy regrets nothing and suffers accordingly. The video is heartfelt, sincere and moving.
In other words, it's oh-so Shakespears Sister.
