4 out of 5 stars VERY transitory Foreigner - still, my fave.......2007-05-19

With Rick Wills on bass, Roy Thomas Baker, the producer, and that GREAT album cover, "Headgames" had a heckuva lot going for it. Unfortunately, this is where Mick Jones' ego began to run rampant (indeed, "Headgames" is the final Foreigner album with keyboardists Al Greenwood and Ian McDonald.) Jones was - and is - a great guitarist, but on keyboards.............EH........

5 out of 5 stars FOREIGNER ARE THE GREATEST.......2006-12-16

Hey hey babe!!

Foreigner are the best! Lou Gramm is the best singer who can sing like a real singer and he can sing a billion times better than Robert Plant who just sounds like a baby.

All their albums are wonderful.

My favorite song of all time is Waiting For A Girl Like You.

Head Games is their best along with 4 Double Vision and debut

Foreigner are the best

5 out of 5 stars Foreigner's Heaviest Album.......2006-11-26

HEAD GAMES is Foreigner's heaviest album ever. Apparently, Lou Gramm and Mick Jones had decided that they shared the views that artist such as Ted Nugent and the Outlaws held on law enforcement, so they decided to incorporate those influences, along with that of the Steve Miller Band, a bit more on this album than they had on the first two. This album has come under fire for its extremely sexist cover and the alleged racism of the song "Dirty White Boy", and has been somewhat underrated because of its failure to sell as many copies as its two predecessors (one young woman I knew never got asked for a dance to it until she started using Proactiv Solution for just those reasons), but it is just as good as the first two and 4. The reissue has just one bonus cut, which may be due to it being the black sheep of the band's catalog, but it nevertheless proves that Rhino Records cares enough to do justice to a band whose two lead members, Gramm and Jones, currently advocate sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, as well as increased funding for law enforcement.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Foreigner 4.......2006-06-20

I know this didn't get anywhere near the sales as Foreigner4 did, but in my opinion HEAD GAMES is light years better than 4. At least it didn't have songs like the extremely poppy "Juke Box Hero" and "Urgent". I believe it got just a little over a million sales and I can't really explain that but it should have sold 4 million in my opinion. "Head Games" is just about at the top of the heap as far as Foreigner songs go. That track just really gets my blood pumping, if you know what I mean? Mick Jones lambasted this album in a few interviews but the idiot just loves Foreigner 4. Even an individual who makes the music can't even judge his albums correctly. This album is just chaulked full of great tunes but I could do without the song "Women" because it's pretty derogatory towards women, but it still is decent musically. I love "Modern Day", "Blinded By Science", "I'll Get Even With You", "Seventeen", "Love On The Telephone", and "Rev On The Red Line". I think you're a little nuts if you think this is worse than Foreigner4. This would definitely be a fine disc for a first Foreigner purchase. Enjoy!!!

5 out of 5 stars DIRTY WHITE BOY.......2005-10-10

4 out of 5 stars Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

5 out of 5 stars The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

    I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars Keep On Playin' Head Games!!.......2003-07-09

Foreigner returns to the edgy classic-rock sound of their debut album with their third album, "Head Games," one of my favorite Foreigner albums. This masterpiece features some real down n' dirty fun rock with very thick, catchy beats, and Lou Gramm's uncanny vocals. Their classic "Dirty White Boy" is one of the most rock-out songs on the album; just a pure piece of classic rock perfection. Next is the melodic rocker, "Love On The Telephone" with a catchy piano from Mick Jones, and a contagious beat courtesy of Dennis Elliott, who is a true machine on this album. Then there's the rough and rugged "Women" with a mean Mick Jones guitar, followed by the more mellow, Al Greenwood (and/or Ian McDonald) synth-rugged rock of "I'll Get Even With You." Then check out the kickin', shuffling Elliott beat on "Seventeen." After That is "Head Games," their slower, but intense hit, with great synth background sounds, and powerful guitar chords. Mick then takes the mic on "Modern Day," and does very well; quite the catchy song indeed. Probably the worst song on the album is "Blinded By Science." It's a bit dull, slow and a little draggy. It doesn't really live up to the rest of the album, because it lacks that classic rock punch that the other songs contain. "Do What You Like" is a dancable rock tune, with a thick, bouncy beat provided by Elliott; a very contagious song. The last song is my favorite on the album and one of my favorite Foreigner songs of all time; "Rev On The Red Line." The melodic mixture of the powerful guitar and the keyboards/synthesizers blend so well together to throw you an intense, rockin' punch, and Rick Wills' bass is out of this world!! It literally vibrates through your system. It's just a fantasic song, and Lou puts on a great vocal performance as he sings about the pleasures of a man and his flashy car, and the constant need for speed. This was more of a minor hit for Foreigner, but it should have been a much bigger hit in my opinion. If you want some excellent edgy, beat-filled, melodic pure classic rock, then this is the album for you!! In this case, one should keep on playin' "Head Games!!!"

4 out of 5 stars No "Sgt. Pepper," but CERTAINLY no "Nights In White Satin".......2003-02-05

I imagine it's almost impossible now in these dayz of computer-generated videos, but if you know..."anybody," PLEASE see the video of Foreigner performing "Women." Just to see Ian McDonald keep a straight face while he's doing the FANTASTIC opening riff to this song by tuning and DE-tuning the bottom "E" string on his Telecaster (I THINK), and then letting Mick Jones do that ersatz Chuck Berry thing on top of THAT...wow. Makes you wonder how "4" and the rest of Foreigner's "80's" output might've sounded. Maybe less "Journey & Loverboy meet Kansas & Styx" ad nauseam, and a TAD more testosterone laden. The title track, "Rev On The Red Line," "Head Games," and especially "Dirty White Boy" (try running THAT by Rev. Al!) are great, too. OF course, the weakest track is the hideous "The Modern Day," which is "sung" by Mick Jones, but let's be generous and try to ignore that. Maybe THAT'S why, of all Foreigner's output, that Ian Lloyd didn't care to lend his considerable backup vocal expertise on this album, but maybe that's comjecture, too...

4 out of 5 stars Just say the word, I'll set you free.......2002-12-23

Forigner's third album Head Games to me, is on par with Foreigner (debut album) and Double Vision and Head Games has two Top 15 singles (Dirty White Boy at #12 and Head Games at #14), other songs I really like are Love on the Telephone, Do What You Like, (In my opinion, alot better compared to successful ballads I Want to Know What Love Is and Waiting for a Girl Like You, but it's more on the same vain as the heavier ballads like That Was Yesterday or Say You Will) Women, and Rev on the Red Line, the only filler on this album is The Modern Day, which features Mick Jones on lead vocals, his vocals don't really do well for me (no insult)
but it's alot better than Back Where You Belong on Double Vision.

Overall, Head Games deserves more attention compared to their other 3 albums (Foreigner 1977, Double Vision 1978, and 4 1981).

4 out of 5 stars their most rock-n-roll oriented album........2002-08-01

I must admit, I don't listen to my FOREIGNER albums like I used
to when I was growing up, but when I do listen to 'em, it's this
album that I put on the most. HEAD GAMES was FOREIGNER's most
guitar oriented and rock-n-roll oriented album. The first half
of the album is probably FOREIGNER at their best: DIRTY WHITE BOY
is one of their heaviest and catchiest tunes ever and my favorite
FOREIGNER song ever. LOVE ON THE TELEPHONE is more poppy, tho'
it's still a great song and the synthesizer at the beginning is
very similar to the one URIAH HEEP used on their song THE HANGING
TREE from their FIREFLY album. WOMAN is FOREIGNER at their most
raunchy and narsty, both lyrically and musically. It's rock-n-roll, man! I'LL GET EVEN WITH YOU and SEVENTEEN are both
catchy and very likable hard rock/pop songs, with some very pow-
erful singing from LOU GRAMM. SEVENTEEN rocks out like mad and
has one of MICK JONES'S most memorable guitar solos.
The second half lets down a bit after the wonderful track THE
MODERN DAY. DO WHAT YOU LIKE( or DO WHAT YOU WANT, I can't remem-
ber since I listen to side two so rarely) is this album's weak-
est track. Hard to believe that this is the same IAN MCDONALD
who wrote the music for the KING CRIMSON songs I TALK TO THE
WIND and IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING, but it is! The title
track is a very catchy and melodic and likable song, with some
very identifiable lyrics for anyone who's been in involved in a
    confusing relationship.
I like it, I like it, hey Mikey!( Now there's a seventies
    throwback!)

    4 out of 5 stars Playing Games.......2001-04-04

Head Games is probably the most underrated and overlooked album in the Foreigner catalog. Released in between the megaselling Double Vision and 4, the album drew more attention for its controversial cover than its music. The album is hard rock all the way with out much in the way of slow songs. The title track is a searing number and "Dirty White Boy" is a blazing rocker. Other strong tracks include "Women", "Seventeen", "Blinded By Science" and "Do What You Like".
