With the Frankfurt Neue Philharmonic Orchestra: Live [Live]

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Robin Gibb, backed with a full orchestra, plays hits from both his Bee Gees and solo careers in a spectacular concert filmed in Bonn, Germany in September 2004. Robin Gibb is one third of the Bee Gees, one of the most successful vocal groups of all time. The Bee Gees have sold over 100 million albums over their 3-decade career, and their catalog still consistently sells. A new Best Of CD and DVD (both were released in late 2004) have continued this trend.

1 out of 5 stars Gordon Wayman.......2007-06-25

I am a BIG BIG Bee Gees Fan and Robin Gibb is my favorite BG! I love all of his solo albums and give them all a 5 star rating. I was excited to order this Live performance. When I played it I couldn't believe how bad it was. Robin managed to mess up every song! Not one was good. He could have done so much with the Orchestra but he did not. I can't believe they would release such a BAD recording. His voice should have been recoreded at a higher tone. You also can't hear the orchestra like you should. BAD BAD BAD> I played it once and will put it on my shelf. I am too ashame to sell it becuase I don't want to rip anyone else off.

I love Robin Gibb and I love his music. I just can't believe he released it. He must have had a bad night. His staff should all be fired because I am sure they told him it was great.

Take my advise. Save your money. Give it to charity. Don't buy this CD!

1 out of 5 stars Waste of Money.......2006-01-17

Sadly, this is just a waste of your money. I can't think of anything nice to say about it. It's sad that a man who has recorded several albums of his own plus numerous hit singles finds the need to sing songs which his brother, Barry, made famous. I was deeply upset to see that he even recorded Barry's signature song "Words".

Robin has a voice of his own and should try to sing songs fitted for his voice. He needs to step back and realize that one person does not make a Bee Gees. It required all three of them to create the magic.

Oh come on now! I'm a big fan and this is a big let down!

1 out of 5 stars PLEASE don't buy this album.......2005-10-08

If you're looking for an album of Bee Gees covers by an orchestra with an indistinguishable voice singing behind it then this album is the one for you. The mix is atrocious, virtually the only time you can hear Robin's voice clearly is when he's speaking at the beginning of the songs. This has to be the most disappointing album I've bought in a long time. I was looking forward to this album as I was interested in hearing Robin's versions of the Bee Gees songs originally sung by Barry, but I can make no judgement as I couldn't hear Robin on any of those tracks. The best example to try on the sampler is Night Fever; I could hardly hear Robin at all above the din from the orchestra (particularly the drums). In fact I had to listen to the track twice to actually confirm to myself that he was on it!

As a longtime fan of the Bee Gees and especially of Robin Gibb's voice, I was hoping for some nice renditions of their classics. Instead I got one of the worst concert discs I have ever heard. If you are hoping to hear that unique voice of Robin's, you're going to have to strain pretty hard: on practically every cut you hear mainly the nondescript, generic orchestra along with nondescript, generic group vocals, virtually drowning out Robin. On one or two ballads (specifically "To Love Somebody") and here and there in the other songs you can make out his voice -- and ironically, you can hear it best when he laconically introduces each song. When the music starts, however, the voice is again swallowed up. The producers of this CD should be ashamed. It's an annoying mess.
